#TBT Liberty Village | Inspired by Andy Warhol

A Throwback Thursday Story I was browsing tumblr last night and I came across this photo of Andy Warhol and was instantly reminded of this old photo of me by Kelly Kruschel from years ago. It was taken in Liberty Village before all the condos were built, before all the shops, and people took over the neighbourhood. I worked in Liberty Village from 2008-2009  inside the Carpet Factory lofts. I spent lots of time then building my blog, doing events around the city, and making friends. So much time that I used to get in trouble from my boss for blogging at work, and I even took date stamps off my posts so he didn’t know ‘exactly’ when I was posting. I was determined to get into a media job and applied for a gig via Workopolis w/ MUCH + MTV  and knew I was right for the job. I ended up beating HEAPS of people for the role of Social Media Coordinator and started at 299 Queen street in September 2009. It’s crazy to think about all the things I’ve done since then. Places I’ve travelled, brands I’ve worked with. At the time these photos were taken all those things  seemed only possible in my dreams. Just goes to show you really can do anything you put your mind to. <3 CASIE

Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art. – Andy Warhol

Worked on some of your requests for additions to the Unnecessary Wheels Collection this week. I love making things. It’s a lovely break from the internet to draw and a whole different joy sharing online after. Still thinking about that art show. We have a crabby apple: A purple mushroom with handlebars (in progress): A djembe drum: Making some shirts for Blonde Jovi aka the Bloundetourage aka Blondovision aka my friends that are blonde who blog.  Shirts, stencils, spray paint, acrylic paint. One day I’ll have a factory like Andy Warhol, it will be my factory and I will make more more things than ever before. At my factory, a river runs through it, it’s a creative stream. Ok bye…………..ART ATTACK TIME!!!!!!!!

she kinda reminds me of andy warhol

This is the desktop of @irieras at work…feel free to put me on yours too. haha so funny.  It’s my current FB profile pic and she loves it. I got to thinking the other day about this blog and me and everything…. it’s fun reminding yourself about your own life. It becomes a story, unreal at times. I often say to myself “Can you believe it Casie? THIS, this, this is your life and you are living it, good job. Casie you are living it out.” AND Yes,  yes I talk to myself often. Kinda why I have a blog, to make the talking to myself seen normal….or necessary. Oh, look at me so funny again. To remember my life, that’s why I do it, this whole charade. I’m so happy and I hope it lasts forever. Thank you for reading. I love when you comment cause then we’re both sharing and it’s not just me talking to myself day after day. I’ve got all my gear here to scoot to NY after work. I’ve got a driver arranged at the airport and I’m meeting Jello at the hotel. No anxiety, only excitement! OMG! Have an awesome day.

Andy’s Illustrated Story of Inspiration

Andy Warhol, Selfie, 1979 Spent some time yesterday looking through this magical book I got a couple years ago called Andy Warhol Treasures: The Illustrated Story of Andy Warhol’s Life and Work. It’s an amazing anthology documenting his life with all kinds of artifacts, letters, report cards, photographs, stencils, and things that have been reproduced. I can’t remember the last time I looked thought and read all this stuff. It’s super inspiring! Some Artifacts from the Book Currently watching The Startup Kids doc on iTunes. If you’re in tech or an entrepreneur,  you’ll totally relate to the film. Finding it as a great source of inspiration to start the week. I also just watched the video blog of a symphony flash mob. Watch, love, share! This was incredible. Thanks for sharing @kmore! andy made a rain machine, i love the rain

I think it’s pretty most the time. Today was ok for walking, not too heavy, not soaking. Leather, headscarf, heels, a little wet but not much.  “Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.” ― Andy Warhol

I have a new boyfriend, his name is Andy.

He is an ipad. We are in love. Remember I said I really want an ipad? Well,  I painted, scratched, and WON. I could feel I was gonna win, something inside me just knew. Power of positive thought I tell ya. We spent the night together and I took him to dinner last night too. I named him Andy because I won him at the Amex Canvas event yesterday and it was artsy. We’re gonna be makin’ art together and  gettin’ creative and I kinda have Edie hair anyways. I downloaded heaps of apps: Globe & Mail, Angry Birds, ibooks, CityTV Video, Google Earth, Draw Free, Page Capture, Bubble, Twitter, Tweetdeck, Mashable, Facebook, GT Racing (fun), We Doodle (fun) and my fav game Cut the Rope. Thanks Amex. You are awesome! I’m really frustrated at the moment with a couple things. It’s one of those days. I need to get outside and soak up some sun. Maybe andy and I will go down by the lake on my bike. This is my photo, I am very deep & emotional. Andy Warhol drew the knives, I drew the blood and showed emotion. Someone on Twitter just said I am cute when I’m mad, why do boys always say that? I AM NOT CUTE. I AM ANGRY. I am really excited for December to come, I will be travelling and that makes me happy. I hope you have a good day. I’m sure mine will get better. I’m going to check the mail, maybe someone sent me something nice. BYE!

San Francisco: 5 Great Things to Do

There’s no shortage of things to do in San Francisco, you have the water, the Wharf, the city, parks the hills, and over 3,500 restaurants. The key is finding a few ways to see the city with enough time to explore. If I’m on a short trip to a new city, I like to pick 3-5 things I really want to see and give myself lots of time to do it. That way I can leave early in the day and take the scenic route, enjoy meals, take streets without a map, and follow the sunshine. In this list, you’ll find five great things to do in San Francisco if you’re on a short trip but want to see a lot. I’ve also included my runner-up for street art and FOOD.  Fisherman’s Wharf & The Grotto  There is no shortage of great food in SF but if you’re looking for fresh (and sustainably served) seafood, you’ll want to book a table here. The Grotto was first opened in 1935 and the first sit down restaurant at Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s recently been renovated, restoring many of the original features, giving a modern touch to the 1930’s decor. Here you’ll find great views of the bay, the bridge, and boats while taking in the incredible menu by Executive Chef Paul Bruno. Make sure you check out the new beehive on the roof as you walk in the dining area, it’s not be missed! Golden Gate Bridge & Alcatraz Tour I was keen on getting to Alcatraz and biking across the bridge but found myself a bit short on time. I found the perfect way to get some sun and see the sighs from the water with Blue & Gold Boat Tour. Over the course of an hour, you’ll get a great view of the city from the bay, get up close to the bridge…

My Love for Great Glasses

If I was to point out a similarity with my photos over the years it’s that you can usually find a pair of glasses on my face. I love them. There’s about 5,970 results in Google of ‘casiestewart + glasses”.  I’ve amassed a huge collection over the years and part of that is thanks to polette eyewear from France. I’ve been on their global blogger team for almost 2 years now! A long time ago I used to wear these dark black rimmed glasses, this black & white photo was my Twitter profile from 2008 to about 2011. These glasses reminded me of Andy Warhol and they were my favourite. It was years before I found another pair I liked just as much (this one from polette) and then I lost them. Well, I ordered them again and I’m happy to have them back. Casual and easy to wear, perfect for everyday. Find the polette Combinasion here. * they are currently sold out!  My second fav pair of glasses is the e-divergent from polette. I always get compliments on them. Best part? They’re specially tinted to protect your eyes from screen damage. The slight tint will decrease chances of getting a ‘screen headache’ and tired eyes. The frame is also entirely hand polished. Sean makes fun of them almost every single time I wear them, saying they’re my ‘Drake Glasses’. I don’t care, they’re awesome! And so is Drake, heard this yet? My latest sunglasses are quite different from each other but both awesome! The Magnesia have sun lenses that pop off to make them into glasses. These are badass. They remind me of Dwayne Wayne flip up glasses. The Elektra are a more high fashion style that totally reminds me of Lady Gaga. The butterfly shaped frame offers optimum UV400. Fashion & function, honey! The…

I used to draw all the time with my old iPad but I gave it to mum a couple years ago. I’ve got my stylus ready to reactivate my old blog borderline artistic. Yahooo! Big thanks to Samsung for hooking a sista up. Pretty stoked about this new addition to the family. New gadget day IS THE BEST! Thank you #Samsung. Uh-huh honey: Converse #MadebyYou + Honey Eyes

About a week ago I attended a private dinner with some of Converse’s NY team and top ranked influencers in Toronto. We sat down at the Gladstone Hotel to learn about the latest #MadebyYou campaign from Converse and few other treats. I recently picked up a few new pairs of Air Optix Color contacts from Toronto Eyecare. We were talking about other colours available and I mentioned I’d love to give them a try, so VOILA! These ones are Honey and make my eyes look light brown in the sun. My natural eyes are hazel so there’s a slight difference. See all the colours at airoptix.ca. Met up with my sister for a late lunch before the Converse dinner. She’s really so lovely. Follow her on Twitter or Instagram @jeniestewart. Got the new HISY Selfie bluetooth remote recently. It’s a little black button that connects to your phone via Bluetooth and allows you to take snaps by touching the remote. It’s at the Apple store for $28+tax but you can get it on Amazon here. Love that sunshine on my face.  It’s always fun to look at my eyes as a different colour. These honey ones are a subtle difference. I reckon they’d look really neat on greener eyes and interested to see what they do to blue ones. My latest and greatest Converse from the Andy Warhol Collection. Tomato Soup wasn’t available in my size at the time but I was sent a pair of Black Bean Soup and I love them. Nice to sit beside my old friend Jalani. He’s a great photographer and person, you can find him online at jalanimorgan.com or @JalaniMorgan on Twitter. We were all asked to customize a pair of Converse with our name. This pair is one of a kind and made by me. They’re actually…

Converse | Every Pair of Chucks is Unique

Yesterday  Converse announced the global launch of “Made by you”,  a campaign celebrating fans of the brand (like ME!) who have been expressing themselves and their creativity in Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers for nearly 100 years. I’ll have more to share about this cool campaign and how I’m part of it. See my oldest pair vs. my newest pair of Chucks after the video. Six Word Story: “We’ve been around the world together.” These are my oldest pair, got them at Uni in Australia and have worn them in heaps of countries since. My friend worked at the shoe store in Bondi Beach and we wore Chucks everyday. I drew all over them, I drew all over everything back then. They say ‘Cas&Shazz’ on one side (my first fashion brand), creativity, courage, vav hey vav (Kabbalah reference here), and my friend wrote SLAYER. So many memories. I have about 20 pairs now.  A photo posted by C A S I E S T E W A R T (@casiestewart) on Mar 2, 2015 at 3:18pm PST Converse Chuck Taylor: Did you know… The Chuck Taylor All Star is the most legendary and iconic sneaker of all time.  Over 1 Billion Pairs sold Worn by creative minds throughout the decades, the Chuck Taylor All Star was adopted by the music, fashion and art world as a badge of self-expression The Iconic sneaker has been used as a blank canvas by some of the most innovative fashion designers such as Maison Martin Margiela, Commes Des Garcon, Missoni and John Varvatos Chuck Taylor All Star is more than a sneaker, it’s an idea.  A powerful message that is a blank canvas waiting to be filled. Collect Moments Not Things

Woke up not feeling so hot and decided to start my day from my favourite office, the BED OFFICE. It’s one of my fav spots besides a busy cafe when I need to get writing done. We have a patio and huge windows that let the light in and it’s inspiring to cozy up with a coffee and my trusted Mac companion, James Dean. I treasure those moments. All my gadgets have names of famous men in history. My first iPad, Andy Warhol and old laptop, Robert live with mum now. My cameras all have girl names. Saw this sign on Queen Street yesterday. I love the word ‘meander’. Reminds me of Sunscreen by Baz Luhrman. Posted about that song back in 2008, wow that’s ages ago.     After a lazy start to the day in our loft I’m back in the office working away. One of the things I love MOST about being a blogger/writer/freelancer is being in charge of my destiny. Today is one of those days where I started out sluggish and am finishing feeling on top of the world. I’m extremely thankful that I never gave up on blogging even though there were a few times times I just wanted to throw it all away. There’s a lesson for today, don’t give up. You really never know what will happen from one day to the next. 🙂 <3 CASIE

Millennials: Getting the right mix of financial advice

I never thought I’d be in an article about having good finances, let alone millennials and good financial advice.. It seemed impossible back when I graduated from collegge and uni, faced with debt from school, and every major credit card. I moved back from Australia and was BROKE. I had mounting debt and wasn’t making nearly enough money. I was on this show called Maxed Out (now on the Oprah Network!) where I confronted my debt with a financial advisor and through that experience, got a better paying job. If you don’t think you’ll get a spot on a show so you’re able to tackle your financial issues head-on, instead just get in touch with a service like Traverse City wealth management firm so you’re able to fix your finances. The host thought me making a living by being ‘Casie Stewart’ was a total joke and nearly impossible since I didn’t come from money. She compared me to Paris Hilton and I officially launched my casiestewart.com website at the end of the show. I had been writing THIS IS MY LIFE at blogspot but finally went to my own url. This week, an article that I consulted on recently came out with a study from TD bank. It quotes me and was published on PR Newswire, Yahoo Finance and some other places. This is my real story and my actual serious advice is if you are having money worries, no matter how broke you are, it is helpful to see someone who can get you on the right track. I’m 31 and debt free now! When looking into loans and finance advisers, you’ll need to do your research and learn to understand the alternative lenders and options you have. I have also learned a lot about managing money and utility…

Huge TBT | The Blog Years, March 2009 – 2013

Ok here’s a MASSIVE TBT on the month of March from 2009 – 2013. I love looking back on things I’ve done. It’s so easy to forget! The main reason I started this blog in 2005 was so I could remember more. It totally worked! On this day last year Sean sent me flowers to the office .What a darling. Love you! I also blogged about Andy Warhol on this day last year. Sean and I were getting ready to go on a trip to Boston too. See posts tagged March 2013 here. Two years ago on this day I was at The Gladstone for an event. Loved those boots so much. And RIP that leather jacket. Took part in a round table w/ Russ Martin from Marketing Magazine about Rdio & music streaming in Canada. It was MUCH nicer outside and I visited the Toronto Music Garden. Took this using 360 Panoramic app in iPhone from  hTO Park (Urban Beach) which is right beside the lake. Around this time two years ago I filmed ‘It’s All About Me’ documentary that last year won several film festival awards. I’m in another documentary that will be on the festival circuit soon. Pretty neat if you ask me! In March 2011 I was a Personal Branding expert with Levi’s. I love looking back on this stuff, I forget how many things I’ve done! Here are some tips on building your personal brand to help  establish yourself online: Set a goal: Make a plan for your brand. What are you passionate about? What do you want to be known for? Start a blog: Use WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger or Posterous to create a free home for your online activity. Find a mentor: Find someone who is doing what you want to do and introduce yourself, learn from them…

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone, Find Magic

Been loving my walk to work the last week. It’s great to be in a creative office surrounded by art and internet.  Our building is about 10 minutes from my door, major score! Greeted by this sign when I walk in. There’a all kinds of creative, vintagey things around here. Will give you a tour one of these days. I did not wear the right shoes for snow! Doh. Shoudl really know better. Yesterday I took my mentee to the AGO for his first visit and to see the Guggenheim exhibit. We walked around and talked about her future eventually coming up with a plan and some actionable items. Vanessa Grillone won the HTC One contest earlier this year and part of the prize was mentorship from me. See her post about winning here and a guest post on my blog here. I absolutely love the AGo and have been a member for a few years. It’s an amazing place to go and get inspired. Many times I’ve just walked through for 15 minutes and stopped to visit a few favourites. I never miss Andy Warhol or walking through Gallery Italia (above). Saw this art on my way to work today. Made this before I left the house 🙂 One of the things I chatted Vanessa about yesterday was stepping out of your comfort zone. That’s where the magic happens guys. This is an excellent time of year to reflect on the year passed and think about where you want to be this time next year. I don’t even know where my comfort zone is anymore I step out and do the unexpected so often! Don’t be afraid to try something new, you’ll most likely be surprised at the opportunity it creates! The fashion community gathered for an exclusive event seeking to redefine the eye catching denim-on-denim Canadian Tuxedo. Special guests included The Coveteur’s Stephanie Mark and HBC Fashion Director Suzanne Timmins. I rolled up with Brock Mclaughlin and we were up to are usual shenanigans of course. ‘David Bowie Is’ at AGO. I saw him!

Went on a private tour of ‘David Bowie Is’ at the AGO this morning with some Community colleagues. Later this week they start the Ago 1st Thursday events and our client Drambuie is a sponsor. The exhibit was so freaking cool. It’s matched up with Sennheiser Sound so that as you travel from room to room the audio is updated and talks you through the exhibit or plays a song to go with the art. It was pretty amazing, not gonna lie! It’s the first time I’ve experienced a 3D sound system quite like that. This part was super cook. The pano is a bit fuzzy but you can see me and my trench on both sides in the mirrors. I think this sign might have been my fav part, I love the sign.. Could really have stayed at the AGO all day… Saw my old Andy Warhol favs. I used to go to the AGO all the time! See all old posts tagged AGO here.  It pays to be a member! For $100 you can go anytime you want for a year and use the members lounge (it has wifi!). Hair is in a bun today 🙂 Forgot my damn sunnies and the sun just came out, urgh. I am back at my desk in my office with coffee, water, sunflowers, and work. Hope you are enjoying the day wherever you may be! <3 CASIE Buy Propecia Buy Sildenafil Buy Trazodone Buy Zithromax

My idea of a good picture is one that’s in focus and of a famous person.

Hello & happy Thursday to you! Keri always says Thursday is the best night of the week and for me this week, it’s the first night I don’t have anything planned. I’m going to go home, accept first Grocery Gateway delivery, make dinner, do some laundry, clean some of the house, and watch a movie on the Netflix with my love. (If you have a reco LMK!) There’s such comfort in being domestic when you are always on the go! Last night COMMUNITY had an event with Bacardi and the Blue Jays, huge thanks to friends who joined us to open Bacardi at the Park on level 200, section 233. We had @BacardiCanada trending in Toronto, which, for (me) the Social Media Director is the best. The PR team and I were all like… Also, I love Mean Girls and I WISH THIS WAS REAL. In other news.. The film I am “It’s All About ME“,  premieres NEXT MONTH on the BIG SCREEN and tickets are now on sale. Give a ring to the box office at 416-362-5570 or reach them online at commffest.com. I wanna grow up to be a famous person. Title is an Andy quote of course. I’ve always loved him for his work and outlook on life. I’d like to think I carry some of that around with me everywhere I go. The Art of Soup

I can’t even begin to explain how special I felt when I opened this extremely heavy package today. It came from a friend south of the border. Thank you Ellen for sending these. I love you. As soon as I knew these cans were being made, I reached out to my best friends in Boston as asked them to keep an eye out at Target. Today, four of the Andy Warhol Tomato Soup cans arrived. The cans celebrate 50 years since Andy’s iconic work, 32 Campbell’s Soup Cans. Andy famously said “I used to have the same [Campbell’s soup] lunch every day for twenty years.” I love their branding. Something special they did is print all the labels directing you to the website artofsoup.com which redirects to their Facebook page Campbell’s Condensed Soup, 158,746 likes, 3,527 talking about this. Right now. I love when brands do that. Andy Warhol has always been my favourite. An inspiration. I have blogged about him heaps. He has his own category. I also named my iPad after him. Campbell’s Tomato soup with toast has been my fav lunch since I was a kid. Before I knew him. My blog is about to get a makeover 😉 <3 CASIE

I named him Isaac, after Newton.

Who?! A new someone… Isaac Newton joins Andy Warhol & James Dean as the important units in my life, my computers. Why Isaac? He’s  “considered by many to be the greatest and most influential scientist who ever lived.” I’ve named one after an artist, one after an actor and I wanted to name this one after a scientist. Newton talked about  universal gravitation, laws of motion, the universe, attraction and I’m into that. I name my gadgets after inspiring men in history because I spend so much time with them. Technologic boyfriend. They fuel my creativity. Computers are boys names, cameras are girls. Thanks Dell. I’m not used to using a PC even though I’ve only been Mac for less than a year. Time flies eh? Started a new sketchbook and working on some creative ideas for the year. Have an Ultrabook, tips, or any questions about the device? LMK.  I’m ready to test it to it’s fullest and compare it to my darling little Macbook Air. Tomorrow I’m giving away those Palladium shoes to some lovely young lady so if you have small feet and would like to me send them to you, leave a comment on the post here. I’ll send them to anyone in the world but will pay for shipping anywhere in North America. 🙂 Spending the night at home w/ Keri Blog, blogging, watching movies and drinking the Sapporo beer I had a few vouchers for.  I’m hoping we don’t dip into the tequila that was delivered today but y’never know! Have an awesome day.

You have to do stuff that average people don’t understand, because those are the only good things.

Gong to Boston today with my sister. Still haven’t finished my a deck I’ve been working on. So beauty outside. Was at Steamwhistle for a friends work party last night. I love corporate events. So fun. Gonna walk to the airport today. I feel cool doing that. A friend said every time they look at soccer star Megan Rapino, they think of me. Did you read about Raymi in The Grid. The comments are appalling. Shame on you internet. These photos are from my tumblr. Title is a quote by Andy Warhol. Have an awesome day 🙂
