Professional Tennis 2013: Venus & Serena

I had no idea who was playing in the first round today when my Rogers Cup tickets arrived from National Bank.I though a Monday night match with my man would be a nice way to finnish off a great long weekend. I’ve never been to this tennis match because I’ve been so hardcore Telus for ages. I still love Telus. It’s crazy how sporting events are branded. Brands everywhere, everywhere a brand, brand. I really liked the Xerox 360 camera booth (got a poster and flipbook) and I won a magazine from the Rogers Zone, the National Bank booth with Andrew Richards Design furniture was a nice place to relax. I saw several charging stations and had free parking with the tickets. There is a shuttle from parking to front door and it’s on until August 11th. Overal fun time and so cool to see IRL, actually. Turns out I picked a great night to come to a match… Two awesome players (and sisters woot!), Venus and Serena Williams played doubles in an exhibition w/ Monica Seles and Eugenie Bouchard. Not bad for my first ever professional tennis match. There was a great atmosphere and I enjoyed myself a lot! I’ve even looked into getting tennis lessons myself now. All I need is a good racquet and some tennis balls and I’m good to go. I’ve learned more about us, especially myself, in this tennis match! It’s certainly ignited a flame I didn’t know I had. It’s funny cause we can hear them talking/laughing in this exhibition game. #Williams #sisters #tennis… http://t.co/C1FbwWuccz – CASIE STEWART (@casiestewart) August 6, 2013 Wearing new pants I got at Ted Baker in NY. Heading to Manhattan and Staying in a Dream

Bag packed and heading to Porter after work. Catching a 7:30pm to Newark, NJ w/ my press escort aka Patricia. My trip is with essence cosmetics, the UK’s #1 brand who also happens to be the title sponsor of JB’s tour. We arrive in NY just in time to head out on the town for Thursday night drinks. I was last in NY in January and about a year before that so pretty stoked to be back in the Big Apple! We’re staying at Dream NYC in Manhattan and apparently all of JB’s peeps too. Tomorrow I plan to sleep in then hit up the NY Ted Baker store to get a new outfit for Friday night. Hardly packed anything! Counting down till 5:30pm when I head to airport. The Tragically Hip to Play at Bridle Bash V on August 3

One of the BEST parties I’ve EVER been to is the Bridle Bash. It’s held at a friends private residence on the Bridle Path and brings together and awesome group of people, partiers, and musical guests. This year, THE TRAGICALLY HIP are playing in the ravine backyard for about 800 guests. It’s going to be so freaking awesome! Last time my sister and I went to BB, we ended up on the society page of the Globe & Mail, in the photo above. We put a  canoe in the pool and proceeded to give out vodka filled flasks to people all around. It was fantastic. Tickets for BBV can be purchased here and start at $500 each. All the money goes to the Bridle Bash Foundation which supports an array of charities and events in the city of Toronto. For more info on the bash visit the event website here. We’ve got our tickets and I can’t wait. It’s one of those parties  you’ll never forget. I have a feeling this year will top the last one! If you’re gonna be there LMK in the comments or Tweet me! Follow @BridleBash on Twitter and find the event on Facebook here. Much love, <3 CASIE

Netflix Canada Contest: Orange is the New Black?

OK, I started this book today. Sitting on Queen Street in the shade waiting for (rain) someone boyfriend. Netflix sent me a signed copy from the author. Autograph is orange highlighter, naturally. It sounds good, the creator of Weeds made it. Scroll down if you want the prize only, winner gets the following.. PRIZE PS3 ($269 Future Shop) Six month Netflix Canada subscription ($48) Author signed copy of Orange Is The New Black book (Piper Kerman Priceless) I love Netflix and I watch heaps of moves. Last year they sent me a FIVE YEAR subscription and I am excited because more series are being produced for Netflix ONLY. [I was a subscriber before they contacted me.] WATCH THIS IT’S FUNNY Taryn Manning, Donna from That 70’s Show, Jason Biggs (American Pie),  and Janeane Garofalo. LOVE IT.  I like this story, from the first chapters, because I could be this person. So could you. It’s not that hard to get trapped in a cross-border love/drug smuggling scandal. I saw Broke Down Palace, I know how this works.   HOW TO WIN This is a totally made up contest – WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO SAVE ME IN JAIL? Tweet Basically this could happen to anyone, right? In order to pay her debt to society (for a 10 year-old drug money thing smuggling for an African Drug Lord), Piper must trade her comfortable New York life with fiancé  Larry (Jason Biggs) for an orange jumpsuit and prison life. It’a a wild roller coaster  I haven’t read it all yet but SOMEONE LIKE YOU can have a new PS3 to watch it. Imagine I was in jail… I’d be like a junior Martha Stewart. Naturally. PS3 plays Blueray.  This is a fun contest. Tweet or die FTW. Much love, CASIE

Pink Hair, Don’t Care – Kevin Murphy Color Bug

I love love love this Color Bug product by  Kevin Murphy (Australia). I’ve been using it for a few months. Colour in, wash out. It works like a chalk on your hair and is a totally perfect perk up when you need to get your roots done! Works on all different hair shades and comes in a variety of colours including pink, orange, lime green, white, purple, and GOLD. This morning I was feeling Friday lazy, plus am about to go get my hair done tonight, so threw this in with a couple curls and VOILA. Stopped to snap a few photos with my new DSLR on the way to work. I’m looking to teach a Master Class in Self-Photography one day. Peace out peeps, hope you hae a killer Friday night. I’m heading for a drink with the girls from work, then hair appointment, and probably a wild night at home watching a movie with my love. Mum is coming to visit tomorrow and I’m so glad it’s a long weekend. Keep fit & have fun, <3 CASIE

Canon Blogtography – Step Outside of Auto!

A couple weeks ago I announced my partnership with Canon as a Brand Ambassador and over the past month  I’ve been playing around with my new DSLR. The Canon Rebel SL1 is a compact 18 mega pixel camera with touch screen and whole bunch of features I’m not quite versed in yet.  I have heaps to learn.  Canon has awesome resources and I’ve been playing on canonoutsideofauto.ca but the real way I’m going to learn is TAKING PHOTOS. I’m just getting used to using a DSLR. I’ve got a pretty good eye for composing a nice shot but right now aperture and ISO feel like new languages. Once I  learn and understand exposure (ISO, shutter speed and aperture), I’ll be in business. I know it won’t take too long! I’ve been playing around with ISO and exposure. It’s super neat how one photo can be so different by changing just one or two things. This little Rebel has built in filters too. So, naturally I took a few selfies in the park to test them out. This weekend I’m shooting Digital Dreams music festival and in August I’ll be shooting Disneyland and California! Staring in next month have a weekly fashion column for Dose.ca. This is where those Canon skills will really come into play. I’m excited to take my blog to the next level! Below are a few photos I took using (gasp) auto to get used to using the camera.  One of the most beautiful things, a perfect avocado! Limba the 50 year old elephant at Bowmanville Zoo. A baby giraffe peeks out his head at Bowmanville Zoo. I need to work on depth and focus. Flower pot at the cottage in Muskoka. The dock and boat at sunset in Muskoka. Gonna to practice camera settings in nature. Over the next couple months I’ll be…

Tech | Heart on for Social TV and Data Visualization

If you didn’t see this video on social TV from Twitter check it out. Pretty neat data visualization. I LOVE social TV. Something I’ve been really passionate about since working at a TV station a couple years ago. The magic of Twitter and TV fascinates me. I love real time communication, advertising, and interaction. I hope to work more in that space again one day. Last year at Banff World Media Festival, social TV was such a hot topic. Here’s my episode on Coral TV where I chat about upcoming trends, these are all relevant one year later! In other news, Vizify is a wicked way to visualize your social resume. Made this little ditty the other day. Cool eh! I made a movie of my twitter: vizify.com/casie-stewart/… What do you think?  #Vizify — CASIE STEWART (@casiestewart) June 13, 2013   Almost the weekend! Canon Canada 2013 Ambassador – Casie Stewart

This is my new Canon Rebel SL1. It’s the worlds smallest and lightest DSLR. I’m super excited to have received it last night from Canon as part of their first ever  ambassador program. They’ve chosen five top bloggers in Canada to learn to use different Canon cameras in different ways. From now till December, I’ll be stepping up my photo game and learning how to really use this thing.  I’m amazed at some of the features and stoked to take my skills to the next level. I’ve never had a DSLR before! My first ever digital camera was a Canon Powershot and I replaced it several times after losing and breaking it beyond repair. Looking forward to taking you on this journey with me. Thank you Canon for picking me, I’ll make you proud! With love, CASIE

Montreal! Here I Come! Vroooooooooom!

No, I’m not driving to Montreal but I AM en route to MTL via Porter Airlines for the F1 launch event Film Fashion F1 hosted by Community and sponsored by Porsche and Martini. I’ve loved racing since I can remember so this is pretty exciting. I’d love to being Dad but this is a work trip so I’ll be busy the whole time. Sorry Dad, will take pix! My first race was the Toronto Indy in high school and a friends family business sponsored a driver. It was AMAZING! I had full pit passes and spent part of the afternoon during the qualifiers lounging on a boat outside Ontario place with some Hawaiian Tropic girls.  I really wish I had photos but it was WAY before I was on the internet and digital cameras weren’t invented yet. [No comments on that please!] The last time I went to the Honda Indy in Toronto I arrived to my spot just as the cars were crossing the finish line and landed some camera time on TV. That kinda stuff always happens to me! Boarding my plane now. Hope you are having a lovely day!

Experiments to Re-Imagine Advertising

Saw this today and think it’s neat. Art, Copy, Code is Google project that launched at SXSW in Austin this year. It’s a series of projects and brand stories about the current creative revolution, driven by art, copy, and code. The film project shows experiments in ads, apps, social, and mobile that are reimagining advertising’s future. Screenshots in this post are from when I watched it earlier, but based on where you live, the weather, and time, your video will be different. Check it out! About the Video The marriage of art, copy and code is creating entirely new kinds of experiences, but it’s also revolutionizing more familiar ones, too. Here, we partnered with director Ben Tricklebank and Tool to create a dynamic video experiment that changes every time it’s viewed. When a viewer presses play, the program gathers data points like time, location, weather and what’s happening on the web and incorporates them into the video. The result is a personalized experience that rewards repeat views. Talking Shoe This is me today. Hope day is treating you  well. Sending you sunshine because there is none outside! <3 CASIE

Where do we find the will and the courage to continue?

This is one of my fav songs on one of my fav all time albums. This weekend I sat alone, late and at the cottage kitchen table writing, finally working on that book I’m been talking about, and finally doing some web stuff I’ve been avoiding. It wasn’t until I slowed down, I realized how fast I was going. I’ve always liked MIA but “Live fast, Die Young” isn’t in my creative “take over the world” plan.  If I’m ever having a bad day, I go put on Lisa Loeb – Tails or White Stripes – Elephant. I love those albums. This is Dad and I doing the CN Tower Eggewalk about a year ago, almost to the day. It was so awesome. This Makes Me Happy When problems overwhelm, us and sadness smothers us, where do we find the will and the courage to continue? Well, the answer may come in the caring voice of a friend, a chance encounter with a book, or from a personal faith. For Janet help came from her faith, but it also from a squirrel. Shortly after her divorce, Janet lost her father, then she lost her job. She had mounting money problems. But Janet not only survived, she worked her way out of despondency and now she says, life is good again. How could this happen? She told me that late one Autumn day when she was at her lowest she watched a squirrel storing up nuts for the winter, one at a time he would take them to the nest. And she thought, if that squirrel can take care of himself with the harsh winter coming along, then so can I. Once I broke my problems into small pieces I was able to carry them, just like those acorns, one at a time.…

Earth Day 2013 + Big Face Animal Shirt from The Mountain

It’s Earth Day! Today, more than usual, we give attention and praise to our cool green & blue planet!  I am so freaking happy the weather is finally getting warm. I try to trick myself into thinking if doesn’t bother me but, it’s almost MAY and cold. I was born May 8th and I prefer it to be hot by then. (THAT IS A HINT) This weekend, I was lucky to be up  north opening the cottage. Took some photos with my new Fuju XF1 and wore my BIG FACE GREAT HORNED OWL from The Mountain. I was sent it as a gift just in time for Earth Day. So great. WHOOOOOO is the coolest? Get it? Urgh, clearly I am not cool or funny. I also have the Boston Terrier but I’m saving that one, for a special occasion. A typical day at work at The Mountain twitter.com/TheMountainTee… — The Mountain Tees (@TheMountainTees) March 14, 2013 The Mountain seems like a pretty fun company (see tweet above if you did not already see tweet above). The Mountain produces tees made in the U.S. with water based inks and PVC-free operations and even invented a new dye oxidation system that cleans their dye waste water without the use of any chemicals. My friend Kenny at work has a couple, so when they emailed me I was totally into it. I want more friends to have them so we can be a wild kingdom. Mine is Youth XL for $14. If you are my friend and your birthday is coming you might get one. I was laying on my yoga mat in the sun staring up at this tree. It looked pretty and different colours in the sun. After a relaxing weekend staring at trees, sky, lake, and sunshine, it was time for me…

Boston Bound with Travel Savings from CAA

Last weekend I booked a trip with Sean to visit some friends next month in Boston. I go there about twice a year for a mini vacation. He’s never been to ‘beantown’ so I’m pretty excited to show him around the gorgeous city. Mum is always first to remind me about the importance of travel insurance and for this trip I was able to purchase it online through CAA using my new CAA membership. As I was checking out all the life-side assistance benefits from CAA I was happy to find out I can save money on a Boston CityPASS. The CityPASS allows you to check out some of the greatest attractions in the city at a discounted price. It’s valid 9 days from day of first use and you get to skip most ticket lines with your CityPASS in hand. You know I hate waiting in lines! CityPASS gives you admission to these 5 must-see Boston attractions: New England Aquarium (Never been!) Museum of Science (Never been!) Skywalk Observatory So cool. See photo below! Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (Never been!) Harvard Museum of Natural History OR Revolutionaty Boston at The Old State House The Boston CityPASS was $89.95 and with CAA I saved $45.96 PER TICKET. After having my membership for a mere two months, I have saved more than the membership itself costs! Yeah! I went to the skywalk last year it it was so neat! There’s a full 360 view of downtown Boston. The night I was there the Blue Jays were playing the Red Socks at Fenway Park and I took this photo. I think the Jays won. I got that Super Bass: Bass Boomz Bluetooth Speaker

No, not Nikki! Although I did have a real heart on for that song when it came out.  Keri and I played it on the repeater and danced in our jogging pants.  Last week I was received this awesome little portable, bluetooth speaker. Took it to the hot tub lounge and hellooooo, it’s so loud. Sounds wicked! Bass Boomz is the same company that sent me those wicked Swarovski headphones a couple months ago. They gave me a 50% discount you can use if you want to order a speaker (BBZ649103). I think most of the colours are sold out right now but hopefully that changes fast. Hot pink is available for $79.99 UK (then add 50% off!). I can’t wait till spring gets here and I can cart this little baby around in my bike basket and to the park. I walked home from the Distillery District to Cityplace last night (just over 3K) and it was lovely out. FOUR DEGREES MANG. Take those sunshiney thoughts and carry them around today. Spring is JUST around the corner. <3 CASIE

CAA and Life-Side Assistance Savings for You

Last week I got a CAA membership and I’m pretttttty excited about it. Why you ask? Remember having an SPC card as a student? Well, a CAA Membership is kinda like one of those for adults. CAA offers Life-side assistance in the form of savings and rewards from heaps of partners in North America. I’ve never owned a car but when I started driving my Mum had CAA memberships for both my sister and I. She didn’t feel safe with us on the road without knowing we had CAA, just in case something happened. You would not believe how many times it came in handy. I remember saying “It’s ok I have CAA” and getting a friends card towed, a boyfriends car towed, or saving the day when someone accidentally’ locked the keys in the car.  (No not me, never!) I really enjoy driving and having a CAA membership makes me feel safer, especially for long highway drives. Would have been great for our trip to Austin for SXSW last year! Doh. Over the next couple weeks I’ll be sharing some of my shopping, dining, and entertainment savings that come with having a CAA Membership.  I was honestly shocked to see just how many partners they have including a full service travel agency. I’ll be exploring that option in great detail. Most of all I’m looking forward to shopping discounts at Gap & Banana Republic Factory stores, finally visiting the Ontario Science Centre, and taking my BF out for a dinner and a movie. To see all the Life-side Assistance benefits visit caasco.com or check out CAA South Western Ontario on Twitter and Facebook. Have an awesome day! CASIE
