Canon Blogtography: Holiday Portrait Session

I  LOVE the holidays! Nothing like meeting up with friends, letting your hair down with colleagues, boxing day deals, and making memories. In our most recent Canon Blogtography Session at Herman & Audrey, I was pleasantly surprised to see Christmas decorations, a tree, and lights.  It may have only been November but there was no stopping me from putting  on the Christmas music! You can bet I started with Mariah! In this session we learned how to take portraits. It was my most favourite session all the ones we’ve had so far. We went over a variety of ways to shoot perfect holiday portraits and what lenses to use. We worked on depth, putting things in focus, and shooting under low light. ex. candle light. I’ve been taking my own portrait since 2004 when I started this blogging so it was really wonderful to learn how to actually do it right. Our session was lead by top Canadian portrait photographer Steve Carty.  He’s taken a few of my portraits before, see here and here for video. Tips on Taking Portraits from Canon Canada My Portraits from Our Session We were encouraged to snap shots of each other. These are a few of my favourite shots from the session. I’ll share some they took of me before Christmas comes! Andrew Dobson  Corinne McDermott Steve Carty Nelia Belkova It definitely helps to have a tripod when you are shooting group shots like this around the table for example. You can pick up a tripod from any camera store. I love to use a tripod and the self-timer for taking self-portraits and making sure I’m included in group shots.  Aren’t they cute? 🙂 For more tips and tricks on taking great photos visit canonoutsideofauto.ca and check out Steve Carty’s portraits for creative inspiration. Travel | Good Time Adventures in Koh Tao, Thailand

We went on an afternoon snorkelling cruise with Good Time Adventures around Koh Tao, Thailand. It was absolutely amazing! Our crew was so much fun and we drank, swam, jumped off the boat, and visited beaches. The shot of Jenni above was assisted by our Tour Leader, Luke, way to go! These photos were taken with my Canon Rebel SL1. To see the group I was travelling search #ContikiThai on Twitter or Instagram and visit this Twitter list. Thank you to Contiki, Tourism Thailand, and Good Time Adventures for this experience. It was absolutely amazing. I’ve got a few more pic from this cruise on my Instagram here too. Hope this warms up your Monday! <3 CASIE

MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT! #ContikiThai

I’ve mentioned it here and there around the web but this is my formal post, CONTIKI IS SENDING ME TO THAILAND! I leave on Saturday for 2 weeks away with about a dozen of Canada’s top YouTubers. I’ve never been to Asia and had to get a bunch of shots last week to get me prepped. We have an AMAZING itinerary planned by the great team at Contiki. I am honestly SO EXCITED. I’ve heard it’s a great time of year to go there and considering we might get snow today, I’m ready for some sunshine. I’ve been tracking the weather in Thailand and it’s been over 25 degrees every single day for the last week. I’ve been pinning photos and articles on a new Thailand – Nov. 2013 board. It’s so beautiful there!   I’ve known about Contiki as a great travel company from heaps of my cousins and friends down under. I love their NO REGRETS attitude and all the positive images they post  about travel and exploring the world. Like this one… Some Of the People Going Most of the peeps are YouTubers! I am stoked to meet them all. Grabbed this screen shot from Andrew Gunnarolla’s video about the trip. I’ve made a Twitter list of everyone going if you want to creep and meet my travel buddies. Former Much VJs Sarah Taylor and Tim Deegan are two you might recognize. I just got a new GoPro so I’ll be uploading vids to my YouTube channel along the trip. Subscribe here! Follow along our adventures with the #ContikiThai hashtag too. Party in the #FHQ! Congrats Faulhaber on the Office Expansion!

Last night was a busy one! I went to four events before 9pm and made it home in time to watch a movie and get to bed at a decent hour. I’ve really matured over the years, eh? Pictured above one of my fav bloggers Jay Strut on the #FHQ couch at Faulhaber’s event. They just did a MASSIVE expansion of the office which now includes a showroom.  The team brought together a stellar group of people and so many familiar faces filled with hugs and love. PR often is so behind the scenes to make  magic happen. I’ve been working with the WONDERFUL team there for some time now. You might not know it was them but they are behind all my stuff with Ted Baker, essence cosmetics (Bieber in NYC!), Thomas Sabo (the UK trip!), Dermologica,  and a few more things here and there. I’m lucky to work with such a wonderful team. Keep up the great work ladies, I love ya! Check out faulhabercommunications.com and follow them on Twitter at @FaulhaberComm. Movember Baby!

I’ve been a MoSista for FIVE years! I’ve supported campaigns, had my own, and been involved as an ambassador, Movember Gala judge, and last year as a Pinup Girl in the 2013 MoSistas TO Movember calendar.  I’m stoked for this year! Canada is a HUGE part of Movember being one of the top three countries to raise the most funds. Last year we raised almost $2 million! First timer? Check the website HERE to get the rules and sign up your MO SPACE as a team or individual. You have to start with a clean face today and grow that Mo until the end of the month. WMCFW: Tips on Shooting Fashion from @SteveCarty & Canon Canada

I recently met up with the Canadian Canon Ambassadors for a professional photo session with Steve Carty (you’ve seen him here on the blog before!). I’m really getting the hang of using my DSLR! It may sound silly but it took me a while to get shutter speed and aperture. After the last session, I finally hold my camera like a professional and not a n00b. No really though! In this session we learned how to shoot moving subjects on the runway, portraits, and about the built in filters on our cameras. To be honest, I discovered  the filters in my Canon Rebel SL1 right away! I’ve been using Canon since I got my first digital camera pre-blog back in 2004 and I’ve  always loved the creative filters. [Way to be ahead of Instagram guys!] A Word About Fashion GIFs I really love GIFs as you know.  I took all these photos the night of our fashion photography session with Carty and made them into GIFS to see the differences with using the Canon filters. Please note, photo quality was drastically reduced when I put these together. I need a photoshop session before I learn to make high quality GIFs! I think they’re fun. I love when designers and bloggers put out GIFs from runway shows so I wanted to test my skills. Scroll down for some tips from Carty and Canon! 1. Try Canon’s Creative Filters Canon’s Creative Filters can be applied both before and after shooting and can take a photo from average to spectacular You can also stack the filters and create your own unique combinations like Miniature Effect + Soft Focus or Toy Camera + Grainy B&W (The order that you apply the filters also makes a difference in the final output!) If you’ve snapped a photo that seems unsalvageable, try out some…

WMCFW: Here’s How I Prepped for A Busy Week!

I had a lovely and relaxing weekend. Went to Screemers on Friday night for a good scare and spent Saturday afternoon at Hammam Spa. I’ve gone there a few times lately as a way to treat myself to some relaxation. this time I went a little early to relax in the steam room before my full body mud wrap. My skin felt like silk after! Thank you Hammam Spa for this little gift bag! I had tweeted them the day before about the 20% Stylicity discount (available now!) and they left me some goodies. Oh how I love the Internet! This little pink makeup bag is from Ted Baker London and I keep it in my purse to freshen up my look since I often head to events right after work. In it are always a few of my fav things: Essence Nailpolish – dries fast! Essence mascara – not expensive but great volume Rescue Remedy – if you have anxiety, this stuff is for you! Elizabeth Grant blue stick for redness – this stuff is great! Burts Bees – staple! Elizabeth Grant dark circle concealer Dermologica Age Smart primer & tinted moisturizer – both with SPF Moroccanoil Moisturizer stays at home but it’s great and smells wonderful I recieved a few things in the mail this week to get me ready for Fashion Week. A new toothbrush from Phillips and a whitening pen. I take really good care of my teeth so these were a treat! In other news, I was in an electric toothbrush commercial when I was 16. It aired in the USA, the kind you’ll see many a Dentist in Manchester and other dentists and surgeries within the US of A fully endorse and say they can be the best for your oral hygiene. These D.…

The Ballet on Ossington w/ Ivana Santilli

Went to Ballet on Ossington for my first time Friday night. It was a blast! We popped bottles and danced the night away with Ivana Santilli. Who is awesome by the way! The Ballet is not ‘the ballet’ like the time I was in the Nutcracker with the National Ballet of Canada ballet, it’s just the the venue name. Me as a Canon Doll in the Nutcracker w/ the National Ballet of Canada It’s a sexy, fairly small, upstairs bar, with old school booths and often features burlesque dancers. Looking forward to going home with my BF to have lunch and dinner with my parents today. Haven’t seen Dad in ages. Not as long as this photo, lol, I just love this one. Too bad all the sisters won’t be there. There’s 1/5 missing from this gif but two years ago we had a blast at Thanksgiving. All the kids were there and I made gifs of us. Props to @KevinSpacey for this Inspiring Talk!

Last year I was offered a subscription to Netflix Canada. This was huge for me! Netflix saw I loved them and offered me a subscription in return for sharing what I watch on Facebook. This was a-ok for me. I watched the ENTIRE House of Cards (13, 1 hours eps) in one weekend. Some of my fav series are Orange is the New Black, United States of Tara, Archer, House of Cards, and all the TED videos. I  watch A LOT of movies. (Don’t judge me for watching Clueless often!) “If you’re watching a TV show on your iPad is it no longer a TV show?” Key Takeaways We can take a bite out of piracy The audience wants the control, if they want to binge we should let them We learned the lesson the music industry didn’t learn People are more likley to pay for it rather than steal it (most the time!) What defines a film? Is a TV show on an iPad no longer a TV show? The device and length are irrlevant For kids growing up now there is no difference, it’s all content, it’s just stories The audience has spoken, they want stories! This conference talk by Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) made me feel SO inspired about the future of internet, film, and television. On demand viewing is the FUTURE of TV. Remember last year when I said “INNOVATE OR DIE?”. Pay attention, you don’t want to be left behind people! <3 CASIE

Caitlin Cronenberg Portrait Studio at NKPR’s #ITLounge

During TIFF I was a busy little bee. one of my stops was The IT Lounge, hosted by Toronto- and New York-based public relations agency NKPR. In an exclusive collaboration with fashion magazine W, Caitlin Cronenberg took the helm of the portrait studio, snapping photographs of some of the most highly anticipated celebs. The theme was Modern Vintage (which I LOVED) featuring elements of heritage and classic. Décor included antique furniture and trompe d’oeil sets, with the concept for her Portrait Studio based on Casa Susanna. There were also a ton of great brands present in the lounge including Avon, Tweezerman and Roots Canada, Cold Stone Creamery and Italian heritage brand Barilla. Natasha & NKPR, thank you SO MUCH for all the goodies. Avon was lovely and sent me a bunch of lipsticks and the Tweezerman set are the best I’ve ever had. Check out all the portraits from the NKPR portrait studio at  itlounge.nkpr.net and see the work of Caitlin Cronenberg on her website.  Happy Friday! <3 CASIE   Buy Flomax Buy Abilify Buy Aciphex

A Disposable Waterproof Camera is Always a Great Idea

It’s only been a couple weeks since we got back from our Disney + California trip. Sadly, the seasons are changing and Fall weather is on its way. I’m wearing layers and socks. We were all heading down to the pool on this day and I decided to pop into the hotel gift shop and see how much a disposable waterproof camera was. It was one of the best $20 I spent on the trip. It’s so rare to have actually printed photos anymore and these are just a few of the selections I’ll keep forever. We had SO much fun on this trip. I can’t help but start planning my next vacation. This time, I’m looking for a digital detox, somewhere I can go surfing and shut out the world. Here’s to summer, best friends, and daydreaming of California sunshine. Thanks again to Joyce, Angela and Disney for sending us on a trip we’ll never forget. Buy Tadalafil Buy Abilify Buy Aciphex

2013 Chevy Camaro Convertable in California

We had so much fun cruising around in the 2013 Chevy Camaro Convertable in California. We randomly decided to get a rental once we got to the hotel and I’m so GLAD they had this. It was $25 more per day than a compact car  from Hertz and so totally worth it! You deff need a car in LA. I can’t imagine being on vacation or living there without a car. I loved hitting the open road and driving to the beach, top down of course. I loved Venice Beach the most. It reminded me so much of where I lived in Bondi Beach in Australia. Did you know that the real Abbot Kinney was a tobacco millionaire who founded it in 1905? Oh the things you learn on Wikipedia.

Boyfriend Style – Hamilton Watch Skeltonized Caliber

Meet my new partner, Hamilton retro men’s watch. It’s quite sexy. New style in their viewmatic series, officially called “The Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton”. Caliber has automatic movement, exclusive to Hamilton and this one is on a leather strap. I love watches as bracelets, I check my phone so often I don’t need a watch to tell time.  About a year ago I had a different, smaller Hamilton Watch, it was on long-term loan. I loved it. Before going to NY last week I stopped by the Swatch Canada head office to pick up two great new watches. This photo reminds me I need new white Converse. Ted Baker London – NYC 5th Avenue Grand House

Started the day in style with Starbucks, sunshine and a smile. This is the lovely Patricia ⬆ and ⬇ that’s not how you spell my name but I didn’t care one bit, I was in NY and it was Friday. ❤ This was en route to the essence NY head office, (Justin Bieber’s concert sponsor). NY cabs are cheaper than Toronto, feels like you drive for ages before you hit $20. Cool 3d art installation painting downstairs. Great view from upstairs. Our next stop was the Ted Baker London 5th Avenue Grand House. It is gorgeous. Still looks like an old house in many ways, even how the clothes are hung and accessories displayed.  Right away I said, “WHEN CAN I MOVE IN?” I loved it. I adore the new prints from Ted. I got a this great new bag, pants, a few scarves, and much needed grown lady wallet. I absolutely love travelling. It’s less than three weeks before I head to California for six days with bloggers and best friends. I can’t wait!  Working on a post this week for the NY Ted Baker blog about my fav Toronto spots. Any suggestions? LMK! See other posts w/ Ted and me here. I’m going to make this week really, really great. We’re closer to Friday than normal and we are closer to the end of summer I care to admit. Put a smile on that face of yours and flash it around. <3 CASIE
