Spooktacular! Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland

I really love halloween. I mean, I love it so much I take every opportunity to celebrate it during the month of October I can. I visited Canada’s Wonderland for Halloween Haunt on October 2nd and it was so much fun. See my post on the Canada’s Wonderland blog here or scroll away. My sister and I have been dressing up for halloween together our whole lives so when I was invited to #CWhaunt there was no one else I’d rather go with. We headed to the park just in time for nightfall. You’re not realllllly supposed to go in costume but we put on zombie faces so enhance the night. We started in the VIP Pre-Haunt lounge making our plan for the night. We had Fright Lane passes which outlined all the haunted houses and allowed us to skip the line. The Skeleton Key is for getting into secret rooms at the haunted houses for extra scares. The eerie sounds of scary music had us a bit spooked so we decided to ride the coasters to get our jitters out. First up, Levithan. Having a Fast Pass made our night spoooooktacular as we were able to zip past lines and jump on the rides right away. We sat down beside two young men who looked a *little* creeped by our makeup choices. After we screamed our heads off flying through the night sky, one of the guys said “your makeup is a bit messed up”. My sister turned to him ‘that’s because I’m dead!” We laughed loud and hilariously like The Joker and headed to the next ride. I was really impressed with the performances we caught on the stage. Events | Thomas Sabo Opening at Eaton Centre #SABOinthe6

Last week I celebrated the opening of Thomas Sabo’s latest Toronto store in the Eaton Centre. Our special guest was none other than Jennifer Grace who you *might* know more as Native Fox. Top LA blogger & model. We hung out at the store for the evening and chatted. She’s super nice! We had a few laughs and traded blog tales. People were lined up before the event started to be the first to enter and receive a special Love Bridge bracelet w/ engraving. My Love Bridge is engraved with my name but I feel like I need another one with something more creative or inspiring. Not that I don’t love my name but you know that I mean! A few other bloggers & Thomas Sabo ambassadors were in the house, Justine (Jet Set Justine) and Alexander (Kenton Magazine). The new store is now open for business and near the new foodcourt on the second level. If you don’t feel like venturing to the Eaton Centre you can always visit thomassabo.com to order online. Cottage Life | Video + Wood, Boats, Dock, A Fall Beard

On thanksgiving morning we took the big boat out of the water (which involved me driving the truck with big trailer attached). Add that to my skills! Once the boat was away we stacked HEAPS of wood. So cute. We stacked HEAPS of wood. It’s was big job but the weather was nice, worked up quite a sweat. Last task of the day was taking out the other small boat and the dock. We put on wetsuits and went for it. I think we were both surprised we did it by ourselves (and my strength!). Sean is strong, my muscles are not as good for heavy lifting. Over the winter I’m planning to work on my editing skills so I can make more + better videos. I would love if you subscribe! Events | Put That Money on Lucky 7! We Won @ Woodbine

I took Carynn to Woodbine for sister date. She’d never been and I thought betting on the ponies would be a fun afternoon and it WAS.She picked the winning horse for 2 races in a row and cashed in both times. We had lunch at Favourites on the second floor, traditional buffet with a vast array of different foods. Both of us won a couple dollars on the first race we bet on. WOOT. Love these glasses, latest pair from polette.com in France. Then Carynn killed it on the next race and won $72.65. Taking someone to the races for their first time THEN having them win is the most fun. Doesn’t matter how much you win, leaving home w/ extra cash in your pocket is awesome! I love people watching, especially mid-race when they’re cheering and screaming. It’s exciting! Over the past couple months I’ve noticed more and more young peeps there, millennials. Throwback Thursday | GO JAYS GO!

I decided to make an audio of this blogpost because I have such fond memories of this day. Have a listen or scroll down to read it. The photo above is from 1992 when the Blue Jays won the world series for the first time.We’re standing on Bremner near Navy Warf facing south. I just got off the phone with mum as I was confirming a couple details about the day since I was only 10 when it happened. In the photo L-R are my sister, Bronwyn, Carly (Bomb Girls), Paige, and me. Our mums were taking classes at a school in Cambridge that day when they looked at each other and said “what are we doing, we should be there!” after hearing the Blue Jays parade was happening in Toronto. So, they each went to sign us kids out of schools (we were at different ones), met up, packed all 5 kids in the car, and drove to Toronto. We were there pretty early and got a spot at the front just outside the Skydome near gate 10. Now that mum mentioned it, I remember a police officer waiting there with us. She said crowds started to form and we got moved to the front of the group near us where the office stayed most of the afternoon. He looked at our mums like they were crazy, there were NOT many kids there. AT ALL. The parade went on forever and I remember seeing Roberto Alomar, Kelly Gruber, Joe Carter. It is one of the most fond memories of being a kid. The next day I went to school and told all the kids I was at the parade. I remember feeling cool and everything thinking mum was cool too. This is My Life | Fiesta, Fiesta! We Partied w/ Pringles Tortillas

I love chips, there’s no denying it. Probably too much. Pringles (knowing my chip love) reached out to let me know they had a new chip in down, Pringles Tortillas. Next, they sent me an entire CASE of the new chips and since I really want to shouldn’t eat them all myself, we had a little fiesta at the office. I set up the boardroom with a nice Mexican tablecloth, a feast, and called in the crew. The new Tortillas come in Original, Cheese, and Ranch. My fav are the cheese. This is My Life | Is it Friday Yet?

Oh man yesterday was one of those days…I was trying to get something done ALL afternoon and every. little. thing. was distracting me and before I knew it, the day was almost done. I’m ready for the weekend. You? We’re heading up to the cottage and I seriously can’t WAIT. It’s amazing how I’ve become so addicted to silence and the wilderness. I love staying home, sitting, reading, relaxing. I guess that’s what happens when you get older?! Yesterday I had to turn down an offer to go on a press trip to Tulum, Mexico because timing conflicts with another job. A bunch of friends are going and I was pretty bummed. I’ll just have to plan another trip! This winter I’m determined to get away 1-2 times. Sean and I both worked so much last year we didn’t go on vacation. I’m not tooooo crazy about the stars but Mercury is in Retrograde ? until the 9th and I’m ready for the switch back. Events | Weekend Dining at Woodbine Racetrack

This weekend I’m taking my sister Carynn on a date to Woodbine Racetrack for her very first time. Instead of eating at the concession, we’re getting a lil’ fancier at Favourites Dining Room (located on the 2nd Floor, west end). It IS Thanksgiving weekend after all! Thanks Woodbine! If you’re just tuning in or don’t recall, I’ve partnered with Woodbine for the entire racing season. Last week I went to the media preview for Converse 2015 Holiday. I’ve been wearing these kicks my entire life. Mum reminded me the other day that I had them as a wee little kiddo. I’ve gone through heaps of pairs over the years and love how they change slightly, yet remain the same. This year Converse released the Converse Chuck Taylor Chuck II. The new Chuck II is nearly identical to its predecessor, with advances in construction and technology, including Nike’s Lunarlon cushioning. They’re more comfortable! Events | WeDay 2015 w/ Team Telus Advocates

On Thursday last week Emily and I got up realllllly early and drove down to the ACC to see the red carpet for WeDay with the Team Telus Advocates. I’m pretty sure it was her first time attending a red carpet. She did however, do her first live hit on TV and was seen on Breakfast Television by people across Canada. I’m teaching her the ways of the media early! Don’t mind the pixelated photo and my windy hair. The ACC was filled with about 40K people, mostly students, there to kick off 365 days of making the world a better place. It was a bit overwhelming but totally inspiring. Loved seeing all the performers and speakers including Hozier, Nick Jonas, and Shawn Mendes, Rookie Mag editor-in-chief Tavi Gevinson (LOVE HER) and social change activist Tonika Morgan. It was great spending the day with this group of ladies from the Team Telus Advocates. Fashion | Fitzroy Boutique X Adidas Popup

Last week the girls from Fitzroy Boutique opened their latest pop-up at 12 Ossington. They’re partnered with adidas Originals and during Nuit Blanche last weekend, you could have your new kicks customized by two awesome Toronto artists, Andre Kan or Madison Van Rijn. My shoes were customized by Madison (above) and I picked a little love note envelope similar to a tattoo on my right arm. I’ve had a few pairs of shoes customized over the years with my name so now, I’m adding adidas to my collection. I also love the dress Julie (one of the Fitzroy babes) was wearing and I picked one up for myself. I was feeling pretty tired after going to WeDay so a little retail therapy was JUST what I needed. The festival will be a collection of short travel docs covering awesome featuring young travellers on exciting and unique adventures. This contest gives aspiring filmmakers a chance to show off their talents. It’s expected that a lot of people will enter this competition, meaning that the standard will probably be high. To ensure your film stands out amongst other entries, it might be worth looking into some specialized software. As many professional filmmakers make use of digital cinema package editing software, people entering this competition might want to look for an online DCP guide to include some advertising in your travel film. Beauty | Hair Damage Science w/ L’Oreal Pro-Fiber Professional

This morning I stopped at Wildflower inside the Thompson Hotel soon as we get back from Muskoka. I was there as one of the first in Canada to experience L’Oreal Professionnel’s new technological breakthrough Pro-Fiber Professional Hair Damage Science. I had my hair done last week and it was the first time in years I didn’t bleach my roots. Over the last 10 years I’ve reallllllly put my hair through stress. Although I love being blonde, it’s really hard on your hair. Luckily, L’Oreal Pro-Fiber helps reverse hair damage. L’Oreal Canada took me to Taz Hair in Yorkville, a L’Oreal Professionnel salon, where I got to experience the Pro-Fiber treatment first-hand. My stylist took me through a series of questions to determine my damage level. Since I don’t brush my hair heaps (it’s too short!) and I haven’t fully bleached it in a while, I was level 2. I’m sure it was level 3, the most damage not too long ago. Events | LCBO’s Harvest Menu w/ Love for Local w/ Chef Lynn Crawford

Thursday was a busy one! I went to 4 media events and was home just after 8pm. It’s fun but exhausting! Today is chill time, hair, nails, lunch, art show w/ bae. Had a great kickoff to fall yesterday w/ LCBO & Wine Country Ontario over lunch hosted by Chef Lynn Crawford (Food Network Canada & The Cooking Channel). The event featured a Thanksgiving menu prepared by Chef Lynn, along with several other talented winemakers, chefs, and food artisans from Ontario. I don’t go to heaps of ‘foodie’ events, although I enjoy them! It’s always a bit funny for me because the foodies are REALLY serious about the food, flavours, textures, pairings. I love listening. My take is usually, much more relaxed, a lifestyle writer approach. Does it taste good? Can I cook this at home? Will my friends like it? Can I impress the BF/parents? Fashion | Rethinking Pink w/ Rethink Breast Cancer’s 2015 Collection

This morning I had the opportunity to preview the 2015 Rethink Pink Collection with Rethink Breast Cancer. Next week kicks off Breast Cancer Month, and Rethink is the young women’s breast cancer movement. This year’s Rethink Pink partnerships range from beauty, to artisanal goods, practical tools (see pink tool kit, excited about this tbh!), apparel, and more, making it easy to support the cause. The girls from Rethink chatted me about how breast cancer is rare in the under 50 group but their mission is to raise awareness and help women recently diagnosed, and going through breast cancer via various programs. Note to self, Google is NOT a doctor. After a few trips to the CIBC Breast Centre at St. Michaels hospital we found that it was from my birth control and was manageable. I’m generally a pretty healthy person, so having all these appointments really freaked me out, I was scared. I’m a-ok now but the experience made me ‘rethink’ (see what I did there) my health and the importance of taking care of your body, being aware of changes etc. If you would like to get involved visit rethinkbreastcancer.com. Events | The Lowdown on the The Flat White At Second Cup

Last week I was invited to hang out at Second Cup on King and learn about how to make the perfect Flat White. The flat white is a fav in Australia and New Zealand, something I’m very familiar with! When I lived in Australia, each morning I’d ride my bike over to the Le Paris Go cafe in Bondi Beach and get a flat white to start my day. I’m so glad it’s made it’s way to Canada! Pat has been with Second Cup since 1996, so he REALLY knows his stuff. It features a double shot of Second Cup’s rich Espresso Forte, velvety steamed milk, and a thin layer of micro-foam. I prefer a flat white over a latte because it has less milk. (I had a lactose allergy growing up so I try to do have too much milk these days.) Events | Woodbine Ricoh Mile Rock N’ Racing Festival

Sunday marks a big weekend at Woodbine Racetrack with the $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile. Along with the races, there’s also a whole slew of live music, food trucks, and fun. If you’re just tuning in, I’ve partnered with Woodbine for the entire race season and went to a few races earlier this year including The Queen’s Plate and Woodbine Oaks. Over the past couple months I’ve learned how to bet, had some good times, and actually won a few $$. I’m yet to visit the horses up close though. To be honest, I’m kinda scared. I’ve never ridden a horse, only elephants! TIFF | Moët & Chandon Gala Green Room at Roy Thomson Hall

Yesterday was the busiest day I’ve had in a while! I attended two TIFF gifting lounges, had lunch in the Moët green room, put in a couple hours at the office, and spoke at the We Are Wearables event. [symple_divider style=”solid” margin_top=”10″ margin_bottom=”10″] Today is the first day of TIFF and the city is alive with celebrities, streets are closed, and there’s pop-up parties all over the place. For the remainder of the festival, attending stars and special guests will relax and enjoy champagne in the Gala Green Room before they walk the red carpet to introduce a film. I got a sneak peek of the lounge and imagined myself walking red carpets. Stars you can expect to see here are Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, and my old BF Jake Gyllenhaal (I kid, I kid, we only met twice ?). “As somebody who loves to celebrate Canadian talent I’m really excited that there are three major Canadian premieres at Roy Thomson Hall this year, from three major Canadian filmmakers: Deepa Mehta, who had a film in the original festival in 1976, she’s returning with Beeba Boys. I was invited into Bench Canada this week to check out the latest collection for fall winter. Was pleasantly surprised to see more fashion vs. athletic wear and less things with a big logo. I’ve been doing things with them since 2011 so this was fun. The girls in the store know me by now and I have a blast picking out clothes There is in fact a bench there. I think it’s new. And a selfie mirror. HIIIIII! I got all these things. Pants, shirt, sweater. I think they’ll be versatile pieces to mix with dressier items, layers, etc. Glasses are Polette.Phone case is Ted Baker. Necklace is by Shop for Jayu, remember I was in their look book a couple months ago? Oh heyyy, looks like somebody had a make out. Netflix? Chill? Right now if you spend over $150 or more you get 1 of 3 bags. Bench hooked me up with a nice gift card so when I got my total I didn’t feel too shabby shilling out. Gift for BF ✔️ A few years ago I hosted a room in the BHD Gifting Suites on MMVA weekend. It was fun. I hung out all day while celebs & media rolled through receiving gifts and hanging out.
