MY CITY LIVES: TORONTO’S BEST VIDEO CREATORS & STORYTELLERS

Earlier this year in between my travels I filmed this video with my friends at My City Lives. I’ve got a bunch of videos on their platform and I’ve watched the company grow over the past few years. I’m happy to share with you this awesome vid put together by My City Lives and The Biz Media. Enjoy! Here’s an excerpt from the My City Lives blog. Read the whole post here! Meet Casie Stewart: daily lifestyle vlogger, brand ambassador, and one of Toronto’s most influential bloggers. Casie is a household name in the Toronto social media community – and for good reason – she’s got an infectious personality and an enormous amount of hustle. We’ve been fans of Casie for a long time so being able to collaborate with her was really special. Casie, having worked for brands like MuchMusic and MTV, is well armed when it comes to communicating with different audiences and succeeds in showcasing her talent in her blog, which she has been writing for over seven years now. Aside from creating a constant flow of contents for her blog, Casie has been an avid creator of My City Lives videos for years. Kate was on the scene with her camera. Here’s a few behind the scenes pix from her Flickr stream. My City Lives Co-Creator, Adil Emma & Xavier from Timeless on Queen (before renos was CTS) I like laughing! Thank you to the My City Lives team for featuring me. I love you guys <3

The thing that really is blowing my mind is… #japan

I closed my blinds last night and got to thinking about Japan. In bed with iPad & Android, I looked outside, the lake was calm.  I said goodnight to Twitter. I don’t usually do that, I often leave like an irish goodbye. I said goodbye because I love my friends and in the back of my head I know that so many people in Japan woke up Friday morning and never got a chance to say goodbye. They woke up to their houses and lives right fucked up. I can only imagine that happening. There is no word to explain how is makes me feel when I watch those videos over and over. It’s like a movie but it’s not a movie, its real. The world trade centre, that was real. We all remember that day. I remember lots of other stuff in my life but that WTC stands out as something totally monumental, like Japan. I will never get any of these images out of my head. The water rushing over the city, the planes crashing into the buildings. Yes, one distaster was man made and one natural but to me, they are the biggest I’ve ever seen. The thing that really is blowing my mind is the severity, scale and consequences of it all. How the hell do you fix a first world nation that’s been shaken, stirred and radiated? Japan was pretty much run through the dishwasher. There’s going to be a massive ripple affect on society from this. Japan is home to vehicles and electronics that WE love. It is the third largest national economy in the world after US and China in GDP & purchasing power parity (aka PPP if you forgot). I read on Bloomberg.com that Cannon, Sony, Panasonic, Toyota, Honda, Sapporo have all suspended production. I…

Take me down to the paradise city. Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty. Take me home. Oh, won’t you please take me hoooooome!

See you soon DAD! Heading home for the weekend with my sister. One of her friend is getting maried. None of my friends get married, what’s that say? Probably that we are all hardworking yuppies in the city who go out during the week and spend more time on the internet furthering our careers than settling down suberbs style and catch a fish. Ya? I think so. These photos were taken by the lovely Erin Leydon. We had a shoot the other week. She’s a jem. Really looking for a break from the concrete jungle where all my dreams are coming true right now. I want grass and trees and car rides with Dad and home cooked meals. I get sick of Sushi for one and eating dinner from a takeout box while standing alone in my kithen. Somedays I enjoy that the most. Others I don’t. I’m going to see old friends and hear new stories about their lives. I sometimes don’t want to talk about my life when I see people because I already told the whole free world about what I am doing on my blog. Everything and nothing at the same time; I saw a movie, went to a party, layed down in the grass, watched a youtube. It’s all stuff and a life, it’s my life and I love it. I love sharing. Part of the reason I love sharing it to talk to myself and remember things better. A blog is really good therapy. Always listens to your thoughts and helps you get them out. It was realy windy the day we were shooting. Ok bye. I’ve not packed and I gacve my sister shit about not being late and guess what, BIG SURPRISE…I’m going to be late. Sorry Dad 🙂 LOVE YOU. Happy…

i love this city.

Rannie took this beautiful photo from our balcony before out shoot yesterday. We took photos for the Vitamin Water Canada blog and in his 140 project. Stay tuned for that. Good day yesterday mostly around the house working on a couple upcoming projects. Went for an evening stroll with Sabrina to Bellwoods and visited a friends roof patio for some wine and sunset. Stopped by CTS on the way, my fav shop. They had a bunch of items that were $1 and I picked up a couple vintage dresses I can totally do a Pretty in Pink switch to. I’m giving Zoey (my sewing machine) a workout this winter. Heading to the Fairlie Agency for a little co-working woith Carly-Anne today. Haircut at 4 with Darren, think I’m gonna buzz it one last time for summer. Dinner with Jeremy and some friends tonight, we finally all get to meet his crush. Loser karaoke after that but I’m gonna have to call it an early night. I still haven’t packed for Bud Camp  and we leave at 7am. Check out this vid I make a cameo in by My City Lives. I’ve been in a few of their videos one on the red carpet and one about genYTO. Check out their site to see more stuff about our wonderful city and some other cool peeps talking about it. Gotta run. Lots of work to do. See ya on the internet loves!

i can hear you calling my name

I love this city, I do. For some reason, probably many reasons, I started feeling a travel bug this week. Maybe it’s the over whelming amount of things I need to do, starting with cleaning my room (again) and organizing the piles of paper, replying to emails, blogging about things that already happened. That’s the thing about the internet and having a blog about life, sometimes you just want to stop and go back to living a life like those other people who don’t internet their lives.  I caught up on sleep this weekend and spent some time with my sister. This stuff helps. I also hung out with my first love, he came to visit and I wondered if there is a spark still there, 10 years later, he’s still great but I think we’ve grown too far apart. I miss that someone special I was hanging out with for a while last year, it all ended so fast. Not having closure gives me anxiety. You get busy and forget about your heart sometimes but when it’s a rainy day at home you miss that love you once had. I can’t seem to find my flip cam in my room, I’m sure it’s just hiding, I know it’s there. I downloaded a whole bunch of apps to my phone last night, there’s this one police light that doesn’t the blue/red with sound. There’s a strobe light too. I’m sure I’ll fond some silly place to put it to use it along with the cheezy soundbyte apps. I’m getting a new tattoo tomorrow. Still have to send in my LGFW schedule for work. I’m most looking forward to Barbie on Thursday. I’ve been watching movies all day and they’re having an effect on my mood for sure,  one romantic comedy…

phones & elbows

Today was Picard’s birthday and I came to his office (@PolarMobile) to do a Lunch & Learn about social media to the team. It was fun & informative (I was told) and we had pizza and cake. Way to go Picard on forcing having a colleague bake this double rainbow deliciousness. It was good. We followed that off with a couple celebratory birthday shots at the bar downstairs. It was after 1pm so, totally acceptable and a recommended birthday activity. I lead the team in singing ‘Happy Birthday’. Talk about a deal of a speaker, talks, teaches, sings and more. Winked as I typed that, yeah I did. Nov 23, 2011 | Source: Keek.com Having iPhone is changing my life. I’m able to update all my fav sites. There are so many apps. I’m using Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Tumblr, Dailybooth, Keek, My City Lives, Netflix, WordPress, Instagram and a few others. Have any recos? All my devices are synced to iCloud and it’s SO convenient.

the loft has some what of an alice in wonderland feeling

Lauren & I started out at the Loft 404 on Saturday for My City Lives  “One Night in Toronto“. Love that space. Thanks Genna! Have you been there? It’s an “urban oasis”. Reminds me a bit of my Auntie Robyn’s old place somewhere near Ponsonby Road in Auckland, New Zealand. Loved the photo booth in the old elevator. See part pix on My City Lives FB. Hadn’t taken my camera out to a party for a week so I brang her along for the night. Did a brief sting at Wrongbar. Then back again! This shot  is for you Dad. Car inside as a table kinda decoration wall mount. Amira you are RAD  🙂 I played a little tune on the piano and we left to climb through King Street and catch a cab West. We made the walk fabulous before finishing up the night. Emma you looked fabulous. King West on Saturday night is so douchey and crazy. Cop everywhere. No taxis. I usually avoid but this time was unavoidable. No shoes, no shame. Been there, it sucks. Ross is back. We missed him. Lauren blogged some photos on her bloggy here.

a slice of paradise in your own backyard

Had a lovely afternoon in the sun today. Picked up a new paid of Doc’s at the Dr. Martens Store (I’m the Mayor!). I gad a gift certificate from the team to get a any pair I saw at the Fall preview back in July. I got black polished laredo Serena’s, last size 6 they had. Lucky me!  Stopped by Quicksilver and got a pair of board shorts & a matching top for my surf trip to Costa Rica next week. So excited to surf. Visited the lovely  ladies at Get Outside  for a new pair of plain black Havaianas (trashed my old ones at the end of summer). Got may nails done on my way home. I love the hand massage you get. I wonder if I could just go in for hand massage? Is that weird? I’d say it was because I spend all day on the computer. Read my book in the balcony sun for a bit and am about to clean my room. Lauren is coming by before the My City Lives “That Night in Toronto” party and I’d like if my room didn’t look like hoarders. Hope you’re having an awesome day. Get some sun on your face! This is where we’re going tonight! Cheers to the Biz Media for making & My City Loves for sharing 🙂

Canada’s Android Conference

Stopped by AndroidTO today at 99 Sudbury and was happily greeted by a little green Android, a familiar face. Met some new people, saw old friends. Had a preview of the new My City Lives app and heard from the bNotions guys that MY APP is almost ready. This excites me 🙂 Just finished filming a promo for a friends client with Jason Howlet who is a total babe. Our roles were BF & GF. We make a cute couple, eh?

spending time with people you really like is awesome

The other night I was at Bedford Academy for dinner & drinks with some of my fav friends to celebrate Renee‘s visit from SF. Haven’t seen Renee since she moved and it was so nice to see her in IRL. WE MISS YOU RENEE! ♥ We felt it was a good idea for her to make a speech. It went something like this… Tried to take some pano shots of the crew but I’ve not mastered shooting people this way. I’m learrrrrrning still. Most of us in this group met early 2009 through events like Twestival, GenYTO, CanLit and patio Tweetups. It’s amazing to see how everyone has evolved over the last few years. We’re a passionate group of young people working with new technology in mobile, social and web.  When we started GenYTO this was our mission, to unite the “wired, creative and ambitious young people in the in the Toronto startup, marketing, PR and tech community.” This is me on My City Lives around this time last year talking about how my friends in the Toronto tech community have inspired me.   You might recognize a few of these awesome people 😉 I reckon it’s time to plan GenYTO Summer 2011. Ideas welcome. LMK.

Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference 2011 at University of Toronto

This weekend I hosted CUTC 2011 at U of T w/ Keri. It is Canada’s largest tech conference for Uni students in Canada. I was proud to  join the awesome list of speakers in attendance. They made this name tag for me. Thanks guys 😉 Keynote speakers included Matt Flannery (Co-founder and CEO of Kiva) , Alexis Ohanian (Co-founder of reddit.com & Founder of Breadpig), and Ariel Garten (CEO of InteraXon). This room filled up fast with about 500 students! [waves hi to the crowd] My City Lives were in part of the technology fair during lunch break. I was happy to introduce two of my fav people, Adil & Keri. Reckon I like being a speaker more than a host and look forward to more speaking engagements this year. So far I’ve spoken at U of  T to Communication Culture & Information Tech students (CCIT), Centennial College to PR students (CCPR), Fashion Connect TO and been involved with some rad events.  Couple more conferences on the horizon before the year is done!  If you think I would be informative/fun to have speak at your event, school, office or conference email [email protected]. This is cue for speaker on stage to wrap it up. Felt rude holding this! haha. Beautiful out there today! Enjoy it.

Care about what you share about.

A My City Lives tweet inspired me yesterday morning. I was thinking about the things I share and the things others share and how much I care about what I share. This week I’ve been thingking heaps about creativity, creative thinking and large of a role it plays in my life. Had a nice chat with Mum and she said “You either have creativity or you don’t, you can’t learn it“. She reminded me I was very creative as a child in everything I did. I always liked to create my own way to do things from getting dressed to assignments in school. This one time I had to make a new paper mache bowl for my teacher art Mrs. Mack. We had an assignment to make a bowl in class and while everyone was making them, I decided to use magazine, cover it it text, laquer it up and add colorful photos. I might have painted in it too. I can’t rememeber. Anyhow, Mum came to the auction event at school to buy my bowl and my bloody teacher had hid the damn thing.  We asked the teacher as my Mum was about to throw a snap and she went and grabbed it FROM THE CLASSROOM. Mum was livid. You don’t wanna piss off Mum. Trust me. Mum made a deal that I would make a new bowl for the teacher and she handed over $5 and bought my artwork. I had forgot about this happening until Mum reminded me this week. She said “Remember how fast you made that bowl for your teacher, Casie?“. I don’t remember that well but I do remember it was really fast. I used to sit at the Kitchen table and write poems in batches. The more creativity I share, the more I…

the art of marketing, mining & justin bieber

The Blondetourage! Blonde blogging babes Keri & Lauren. The Art of Marketing yesterday was really great. I enjoyed the speakers. Each one made their presentation very personal to the room and to Canada. Gary, Jeffrey and Guy were my favourite. It was a pretty rad day. I was interviewed by The Biz Media & My City Lives for the event video. We like to blooooooooooog. (That’s how you say it right Keri Blog? ;)) Keri & I crashed the Mining Conference. Cruised riiiiight pas security. You are gonna see more of this. I live right next door. I have no idea why I am not crashing more conferences. If you know one I should attend, LMK. We lingered behind this set and were on BNN. Did you see us? It was so sunny & pretty out. Oh, how I so love sun. Then I saw this unit penix Fenix. I was hoping to Chilean Miners were there for autographs and photos. Are they still famous? Maybe their run is over and they have gone back to work now. Quite a structure though. OMG I would not like to be a miner, I’ve never been in a mine have a I Mum, Dad? What about the Sudbury one? Then is was timne for Guy Kawasaki‘s talk to close out the day of TAOM. I snagged a VIP seat up front w/ Michael. Look, GUY. He talked about how to be enchanting. I was waiting for my photo to show up in the presentation. He was really nice.  I reckon if we had a lunch we would get along great. Gary too. Jeffrey from Kodak  (behind Michael below) seemed like a rad dude also, he smiled at me when I passed him. OMG fan girl. Ok now for the Bieber part. Guy’s…

hello, you fool, i love you, c’mon join the joyride!

It is SO BEAUTIFUL outside today. Can you believe it is ROctober and 19 dregees! Gah. It’s gonna be 21 tomorrow. This is gonna be an awesome weekend! I’m going to a clothing swap on Saturday. I’ve got a massive travel bag of clothes I pulled from my closet. If I’ve not worn it and it’s not vintage or seasonal, it’s GONE! The mass piles in my room are shameful. I feel to good to be giving them away, all the leftover clothes to to a charity organization. On Sunday I’m this week’s guest on the Social Media Show on Perpetual Radio with Karim Kanji. We’re gonna be talking about New Twitter, the Virgin Contest and a few other exciting things. On Monday I’m filming a video with My City Lives about my favourite park in the city. So many exciting things happening!! I love you Toronto! Tomorrow is the day Virgin America picks the Provocateur. I’ve been leading the whole competition and have more votes, youube views, FB friends, Twitter followers and blog readers then my competition. He’s a nice guy but I rekon I’m exactly what Virgin America & Richard Branson are looking for! Thank you all for being such good sports and rooting for me this whole time. It’s been going since JULY! I make a great Virgin Girl, eh? Hope you all have an awesome day. If you can, go outside and enjoy the sun. Nothing like that warm glow on your face!

i feel like a celebrity in this room with you

Woke up and had as couple great phone chats with friends. Fun night out with the work mates last night. I seriously love my work. I love what i’m doing and the people. Tomorrow May 2, marks 6 months working with MuchMTV. I was in my old job for two years and knew it wasn’t where I wanted to be. I needed to be doing somehting I loved. I loved twitter and blogging and publishing and internet and I knew I could find a job where I could show that love in a big way. I found it. There are so many new jobs popping up all the time, we’re a lucky generation to be able to say “Hey I want  __________ and I’m gonna get it.” One of the video’s I did for My City Lives last week talks about GenyTO and the group of like minded individuals behind the idea that started it in Jan 2009. I’m so inspired by the friends I’ve made over the last couple years. You can watch the vid’yo here, having trouble embedding it for some reason. Heading to Marijuana March Freedom Festival with my sis now! BYE.

Look who’s a Degrassi student today! I was running into a meeting earlier today and my boss asked if my shirt was new and if I was going to the big meeting this afternoon. “No” I said, “oh, it’s a DEGRASSI meeting” he replied.  I look like SUCH a keener and I love it. Abby gave it to me last night as a thank you for inviting her to my Hills party.  She works with the show which is awesome cause it’s gonna be airing on MuchMusic. BTW if you ever wanna come watch The Hills with me at MTV, just ask! I’ll be hanging out there on Tuesday nights. Remember last week when I filmed with My City Lives, the vids are aliiiiiive! There’s a few more here if you wanna watch ’em. Ok, bye for now. This fancy pose is called html ex.  < degrassi >. My sis is with my cousin right now and we’re going to the Jays game tonight. I’m excited. They’re playing Boston and I’m gonna wear my Red Sox hat just for fun.

“you wouldn’t know her; but her name is Casie Stewart”

This is my outfit today, feeling kinda Mickey Mouse. Screen printed this dress with my name on it last year, found it in the mounting clothes closet and decided to let it come out and play. Have an after work date with My City Lives to film some of the awesome stuff around my hood from MuchMusic to condo city by the water. There’s lots a neat stuff in that little 1.4 KM (thanks to the Cardio Trainer on my phone I know just how far it is). Somebody tossed this sign up yesterday and I bet it’s JUST the beginning. The G20 is just around the corner from my place at the MTCC.  It’s the same weekend as PRIDE and there’s so many security things they need to take care of. Gonna be nuts in my hood when this thing happens. All these world leaders kickin’ it and heaps of raging homo + lezbo’s showing their love for life. Sounds like a fun time if ya ask me. Haha. Got this email the other day. Liked it. Date: Mon, Apr 19, 2010 3:34 pm To: “Casie Stewart” Well I’m not at the “guru” or as I call it “casie stewart” level yet. But funny story; I was at a Charity event a few weeks ago. This girl comes up to me and wants to take a picture of me and the people I was with for her blog. I jokingly tell her “I don’t do blogs” which kind of takes her a back. I tell her I was just joking and that I actually have a good friend who writes a blog and has been very successful with it. She says that’s great and that hers is very new as she is a student at George Brown or Humber…

Dark Side of Comedy on Vice/Crave

A couple of weeks ago I booked a role on a Vice show called ‘The Dark Side of Comedy‘ that’s currently streaming on Crave in Canada and Vice in the USA. My role is small but it was so much fun to be on set for a TV show! The episode is all about Ellen Degeneres and her career. I play a writer on ‘Ellen’ the TV series named Tracy Newman. The real Tracy Newman appears in the Dark Side of Comedy episode and was also a writer for Cheers, The Nanny, The Drew Carey Show. The image above is the real Tracey Newman with Ellen Degeneres, on the right is me as Tracy Newman with the actor Zoe Towne who played Ellen in the episode. My husband in the show was so nice, IRL he’s Gary Poxleitner. On set, I was giving my castmates tips about how to do social media. 🤓 Watch a Snippet of The Episode Here If you’re in Canada, you can watch Dark Side of Comedy on Crave here, if you’re in the USA you can watch it on Vice here. This is the first time I’ve been on a non-reality TV show and I hope it’s just the beginning of more shows! Please let me know if you watch the episode. It’s a great show! Here’s hoping I book more acting jobs in the new year! I love this new career path for me. So fun!

2022: Be Consistent

Well, well, well, guess who’s back? I really jumped the gun when I stopped counting the days about a month ago because shortly after, Omicron took over our lives. December feels like a blur, I was mostly at home, Sean was up north. I hung out with friends, went to an event, things started to feel normal, right before they weren’t. Covid was everywhere. Sean and I were both sick over the holidays and spent Christmas alone together in the woods. I really enjoyed a break from work, life, and the city, even though I was sick for 90% of the time. The past year has been exhausting for a suite of reasons and it was nice to check out for a bit. I have opened this blog to write something more than a handful of times but I just couldn’t do it. I haven’t felt like myself and I haven’t felt like sharing. Up until this week, I still had a brain fog that left me feeling like a dull pencil needing to be sharpened. I took a break from running and didn’t start the New Year with goals and aspirations like usual. BE CONSISTENT This year I commit to ‘Be Consistent’, that’s my theme. I will keep running, eating well, drinking less, and working on myself. I am going to come out of this damn pandemic a better person. ARE YOU WITH ME? Over the past week, I’ve been back to my morning runs, got my hair done, and have been cooking great meals in our new air fryer. I’ve not been doing much other than watching Amy on Jeopardy, finishing 3 seasons of Succession, taking care of my skin, and going to bed early. I also started a class on crypto with a friend. It’s boring-ish life…

Day 389: Lockdown Still

Well, ladies & gentlemen, we’re back in a full lockdown. The good news is they are now starting to roll out vaccines to anyone 18+ who lives in a hot spot area code. I’m happy for everyone that can now get vaccinated. We live in an area that’s right beside 3 postal codes in the new rollout but don’t qualify just yet. I don’t expect to be vaccinated until the end as I’m not high risk or essential. I will stay home for months if it means we can get back to some kind of normal. So, photos of me doing next to nothing with nearly no one will continue to fill the blog as I am determined to keep this diary going until this pandemic is over. I was looking at event photos the other day and really missing seeing everyone, being in a crowd. One thing I really miss, surprisingly, is joyfully yelling in a crowded place. You don’t really do that when you’re at home. One day we will excitedly scream together. I also can’t wait to talk about fun things again, events, product launches, lunches, dinner dates, dance parties, and more. Been singing this song in my head so placing it here for you, London Still by The Waifs. I listened to it heaps when I lived in Australia. Now when I head it I think of singing ‘Lockdown Still’ instead.
