The Zombies Guide to Surviving Among the Living: How to Blend in at Dinner Parties

Over the past couple weeks I’ve shared a few tips for surviving among the living them you’re a zombie in partnership with shomi Canada to promote the new show iZombie. This week for chapter 3 of The Zombies Guide to Surviving Among the Living, we look at easy ways to blend in at dinner parties. Always make sure you’ve got your phone close by, if we learned anything from the first two chapters it’s that humans are totally addicted to texting and are never without a mobile device. Don’t even think about taking a bite before snapping a photo of your food. You’ll notice this human behaviour is very common at any public eating facility. It’s a trend that’s totally taken over human eating rituals. Once you’re managed to get past the small talk and are seated at the table, snap a selfie. Then snap another after your first bite. Share how great our food it with the world on your fav social network. Avoid making eye contact and if you’re feeling bored, pick up your phone and text like you’ve got something really important happening. Even if it’s just jargon. Humans will assume you’re engaged in an intense text conversation. These tips will help any zombie trying to make it in a human world. This is my last post about The Zombies Guide but I’m passing the torch to Will Wong and Daniel (Do The Daniel) for the next  chapters. The Zombies Guide to Surviving Among the Living: Communicating Like a Human

Last week I introduced you to The Zombies Guide to Surviving Among Living as part of my partnership with shomi, and my love for all things zombie. This week, we’re onto Chapter 2 of the guide, communicating like a human. If there’s anything I know REALLLLLY well it’s communicating like a modern millennial. Here’s a couple tips (and GIFs) on just that!   If you’re a zombie girl (boy) living in a human world, you want to hide all chances of someone recognizing your cravings for brains or zombie-like drone in your voice. They key here, always text. Don’t pick up that phone! When texting, avoid all zombie related conversations like eating brains, your fav blood type, inability to tan, or again your craving for brains. Make sure you use short forms like OMG, IRL, TBT, OMW, WTF, and FTW. Also, try to use as FEW words as possible, one word answers are great! Typing ‘kk’ to a response is sure way to show friend that you’re a true human (you might even annoy them like their other BFFS). If someone tries to spark up a conversation, reach for your phone and pretend it’s an important call “I’ve gotta take this’. Then walk away. You’ll be able to avoid small talk without seeming (too) rude. Humans can be kinda touchy-feely, so another tip to communicating is to give in, and hug it out.  It’s gonna be weird, but after a while you might begin to like it. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post on communicating when you’re a zombie jus’ tryna live amongst the humans. Check out the trailer for iZombie here and get yourself a free 30-day trial here. Next week we’re onto Chapter 3: Eating and Drinking. Follow along on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtags #shomi #TheZombiesGuide. CASIE

If you could change anything about your body, what would it be?

I’m working away and listening to the new q on CBC w/ Shad and the first episode has me moved.  I laughed at the jokes and just about cried listening to this poem. A letter from an 8-year-old boy inspired Shane Koyzan to write it, he asks ‘If you could change anything about your body, what would it be?’ I feel inspired now too. I’m a huge fan of poetry and wrote a book of it when I was a teenager.  I’ve been working very slowly on putting together a second edition. Coincidently just stumbled on this poetically written post from a few years ago (2012). Read, listen. Explore. More posts tagged writing here and poetry here. There Are No Walls In This Office I said to myself as I peeked out from behind my computer. There are no walls in this office. I looked up. Looked around. Ideas floating freely between the trees and with a fresh haircut feeling quite fresh in general. A rain drop lands on the touchpad. There’s a faint sound of a boy guitar while a girl reads a book and spins a hula on her hips. (It’s quite amazing really.) The breeze is cool for the first time in days and I wish I had a sweater. In any other season this would feel warm.  Another rain drop. Bugger. This office has no walls but it has no roof either. Hope you’re making the most of the day. 🙂 <3 CASIE

365 Chances to Create the Life You’ve Imagined

So, yesterday I wasn’t feeling so hot and I was hoping I was just tired from a busy weekend but today I am worse. My throat is sore and my whole body aches. I’m trying to look on the bright side, it’s forcing me to sit on the couch and spend some time with my computer and there’s a chance I might drop a few lbs before the New Year. I’m drinking heaps of water, have chicken soup, and Sean is home sick too. Our house is quarantine. I don’t get sick very often but I’ve blogged about it a few times: Entrpreneneurs Don’t Call in Sick, They Work Down with the sickness: How to do a Thyme Bath Sick, Mucus, Cold, Gross Looking back, I usually only get sick in winter. Apparently ‘it’s going around’, from my limited interaction with other humans the last 24 hours. After a really busy year I think a few days thrown up on the couch will do me well. I’ve finally set a date for the release of my book on Amazon and have an ISBN number. There’s no turning back now. When I wrote my first book, JEANS, back in 1996 there were waaaaaay more hoops to jump through in order to self-publish. Thanks to the Internet, you can now publish at the touch of your fingers. A photo posted by C A S I E S T E W A R T (@casiestewart) on Dec 12, 2014 at 2:03pm PST I also signed up for ukulele lessons and I will be able to play by the time summer rolls around. I’ve been meaning to to both those things for a while so feeling pretty good the wheels are in motion for 2015. I have a great feeling about this year. 365 new days and…

That’s a Lot of Blog Posts

Doing a massive crawl through my blog for stories and fav posts from the last 10 years. There are thousands of posts. I wonder how long my blog would be if I printed it out? I’m gonna look into that. Turns out it’s kinda hard to print out your blog posts when you started writing back in the WebLog ages. I imagined this would happen. I’m spending the next few days going over my adventures to England, Costa Rica, LA, SF, Thainand, Cuba. Taking a look back at people I’ve met, events, and places I’ve been. I’m looking forward to taking you through the archives. 🙂 CASIE

Tech | Download Your Classic MySpace Blog

I’m finally getting around to seriously book writing like I’ve been talking about for 10 years. Found a blog post from 2005 where I said I was writing a book [insert crying emoji]. April marks 10 years of blogging on my own blog platform. I rediscovered my old MySpace blogs today now that you can finally download them. MySpace had originally deleted ALL blogs without warning. Downloaded a heap of posts and went through all the HTML files renaming them. It felt good. Unfortunately I’ve lost my first, first ever blog from MicrosoftSpaces back in 2004 (they stopped helping users recover them in 2012). How To Download Your Classic MySpace Blog: Dig up that old login you haven’t used in ages and login to MySpace Go to to settings Click Account On the left you’ll see an option to migrate old photos to a new album and download old blogs Download. Took about 60 seconds to download my 100 posts in a .zip file Fall in love with your elf again OR have heaps of laughs at your MySpace selfies   One of the things I learned today was I haven’t changed that much. Well, I have but some things are still the same. I’m really inspired my going back over my old stuff and incredibly thankful that I didn’t give up and stop writing even though sometimes I really didn’t feel like blogging anymore.  See 10 posts titled ‘Sometimes I don’t feel like it‘ here. Recovered these old quizzes I shared back in 2006 from MySpace. Hahahaha Buzzfeed, you’re just stealing old ideas! Still love the Olsen Twins, still style twinning Nicole Richie, and still love summer. I remember reading this quote in high school and thought, I will write things worth reading and do things worth writing about, watch me! And that was after I’d already written…

#Throwback: I’d Like to Skydive Again

Two years ago today I jumped out of a perfectly good plane for my first every skydive. It was SO MUCH FUN! I was in Boston visiting friends for the weekend and decided this was a great idea. I would 100000% do it again. I’m off to Boston this weekend to visit those same peeps and this is a great throwback reminder of an awesome weekend. I had a 55 second free-fall before landing. Exhilarating! (Jump is at 2:12) In 1996 I wrote a book called ‘Jeans’ and today I remember a line from it ‘You’ve never to old to play in leaves or snow’.  Remember that! You’re the director of your movie, make it an action, a comedy, or a romance! YOLO! <3 CASIE * original post w/ comic strip can be found here!

Huge TBT | The Blog Years, March 2009 – 2013

Ok here’s a MASSIVE TBT on the month of March from 2009 – 2013. I love looking back on things I’ve done. It’s so easy to forget! The main reason I started this blog in 2005 was so I could remember more. It totally worked! On this day last year Sean sent me flowers to the office .What a darling. Love you! I also blogged about Andy Warhol on this day last year. Sean and I were getting ready to go on a trip to Boston too. See posts tagged March 2013 here. Two years ago on this day I was at The Gladstone for an event. Loved those boots so much. And RIP that leather jacket. Took part in a round table w/ Russ Martin from Marketing Magazine about Rdio & music streaming in Canada. It was MUCH nicer outside and I visited the Toronto Music Garden. Took this using 360 Panoramic app in iPhone from  hTO Park (Urban Beach) which is right beside the lake. Around this time two years ago I filmed ‘It’s All About Me’ documentary that last year won several film festival awards. I’m in another documentary that will be on the festival circuit soon. Pretty neat if you ask me! In March 2011 I was a Personal Branding expert with Levi’s. I love looking back on this stuff, I forget how many things I’ve done! Here are some tips on building your personal brand to help  establish yourself online: Set a goal: Make a plan for your brand. What are you passionate about? What do you want to be known for? Start a blog: Use WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger or Posterous to create a free home for your online activity. Find a mentor: Find someone who is doing what you want to do and introduce yourself, learn from them…

Life Imitates Blog, Art Imitates Life

This is my life in a blog it is art, in many forms all at the SAME TIME. Love poems, love and poems. I have written so many poems over the years, it’s really about time to publish a second book. I wrote an anthology that was published back in 1996 called ‘JEANS’. Find it on Google Books here.  Made this rad ‘BITCHES AIN’T SHIT’ laptop skin for Cameron at Untitled & Co. this week. Working on some stuff with fashion peeps and GelaSkins. Pretty exciting. Loving this new job heaps.  Look at this cute stud. Signed Sean up for Frank & Oak this week. I’m always getting new things so I thought it’d be nice for him to get some new clothes in the mail. I get to pick them out though. Moohaha! Stopped by Hermann & Audrey this week for a chat about summer projects. I’m really stoked about things guys. That’s all I can say about that. Hope today is treating you well. This One’s For The Birds

This is the birds dress. Last week it was ducks. I have about four of the same style dress in different prints. Cardigan is from GAP at Dufferin Mall and I used my CAA card to get 10% off. Huzzah! Thanks CAA! Photos taken and uploaded with HTC One. I really love this little phone. I listen to 102.1 The Edge when I take the streetcar in the mornings. it’s the funniest show. They have this “What’s Wrong With You?” contest where people call in and say what is wrong with them. Sometimes it’s so funny I have to hold back the giggles.  Some people have real problems! Ha. New fav coffee shop Hula Girl near Dundas Station. Had a great coffee this morning! They don’t accept debit so tomorrow I’ll be prepared so I can taste something from the snack counter. I’ve got a busy day on my hands (again). Here’s to making it a great one! 🙂 <3 CASIE

Who could hang a name on you? When you change with every new day.

Hello, hope the day is treating you well. Huge haul at The Sweet Potato last night. I made a nice healthy dinner and he played records. I also made kale chips. Who am I?! If this is growing up, I really like it. Feels good to have quiet nights at home after being on the go for the last 5 years at every event in the city. I’m much pickier about the things I go to these days. The sky in Toronto was really beautiful last night. Had a drink and snack at The Drake hotel with a former colleague from MTV. My how times change! It’s always nice to catch up with old friends. If they’ve been reading my blog, we seem to always pick up right where we left off. Pretty stoked to go to Boston next weekend. Crazy thing, the people from CityPASS contacted me after I mentioned them in the CAA post last week about travelling to NY & LA. The power of THE INTERNET is truly amazing! Looking forward to touring around the city and showing Sean all my fav spots. We’ll start with Harvard, MIT, and the Boston Common. Hopefully we have spring weather by then! Remember, you’ll never be younger than you are today! <3 CASIE
