Berlin Fashion Week 2012

It’s fashion season and for the next month or two the world is buzzing with fashion week’s all over the world. I won’t be at Berlin  Fashion Week (January 17th-22).  Seitensad! 🙁 BUT…my good Canadian friend Jessica Gardner will be! You may know her online as @jgrdnr.  She has recently moved to Berlin and scored a few invites to Fashion Week. I’ve asked her to give me us the low down on Germany’s most stylish city. She’ll be posting later this week from Mercedes-Benz Berlin Fashion Week. Mercedes does NY, Berlin & Miami shows!  Yeow! Please say HI to Jessica in the comments or on Twitter and give her a warm welcome to your favourite blog. Sie ist ein total babe! Ich liebe dich <3 CASIE

Howard Green on BNN: What’s the deal with Klout?

It’s always a pleasure for me to go back to 299 Queen Street, the most famous address in Toronto and the home of my last full time 9-5 job. Especially when it’s to be on camera! This time I was on BNN talking online influence with Headline News anchor Howard Green who also spoke to Shelby Walsh, VP of Operations at Trendhunter and Joe Fernandes, CEOof Klout. Watch the entire episode on the BNN HERE or my single clip HERE. Ok, here we go, 00:30 seconds and we’re LIVE. No anxiety. I love being on TV! I’ve officially moved from ‘Social Media Expert’ on eTalk to ‘Pro-Blogger, Casie Stewart, BLOG ENTREPRENEUR on BNN.Look out world! 🙂 Mum, Dad & Nana are gonna love this!

Extraordinary thing, The Internet

Turned off the awards show last night to watch one of my fav films, Closer feat Natalie, Clive, Julia and Jude. I love it. Natalie says she’s a ‘waif’ at the start of the film and The Waif’s are one of my fav Aussie bands. Turns out they’re from Perth like Sam. Today is a busy day shooting two things for two different tv networks (just my luck they’re both on the same day). These photos were sent to me last night from Javier Moltó in Madrid. We met last week in Detroit for the International Auto Show. I loved this song when I lived in Australia and was happily reminded of it last night. I really want to go to London. Attending & covering the Olympics would be a DREAM come true. Have a wonderful Monday. It’s nice to be back in town but I love that my international friends never feel that far away. Looking forward to tonight & hibernating. How many days till summer?

I’m a gangster for real, I feel so damn gangster

I love this photo. Took it today as soon as I got home from the airport using the 360 app on iPhone. I find this city so beautiful to come home to. Have you heard of Pigeon John? Khayyamm always has good tunes and I was introduced to him when we were in Sin City last week. He’s not really a gangsta’ and neither am I. I came all the way home TO THE FREEZING COLD in Havaianas. Crazy woman! Packed socks in my bag so I was warm on the plane but couldn’t not be bothered to get other shoes just to run to the car. I was tired and lazy. My ankle is really swollen and my foot hurts. I have an old injury from about five years ago that is painful every now & then (love that movie). Urghhhh. I did however. spend the entire day on the couch (the internet). I’m doing hot/cold on it and have a castor oil compress for the night (thanks Mum!). I’m always stoked to check the mail when I get home from work/vacation. I was VERY pleasantly surprised with a bunch of jewellery I ordered from Etsy (late one night) and a box with the warmest, wooly, winter slippers EVER.  They’re called Glerups and they’re from Denmark with a lovely family story about how they’re made. Glerups are made from 100% natural wool. Swoooooooon! Being Kiwi I’ve had wool slippers before but never as fancy as these.  (I feel Mum is going to ring once she reads this saying she needs a pair!) Check out other styles (men, women, slipper, shoe) at Gerlups.ca. I got the black Women’s Slipper that retails for $99 CAD. I’ve been wearing them since I got ’em! They are SO incredibly warm. Thanks for sending Sadie!

I GET MY FASHION PILLS FROM THE HIP PHARMACY.

Love this blog foudre.co, it’s full of beautiful fashion photos. One of the reasons I really love tumblr is there are so many passionate fashion bloggers lovers & brands there (McQueen, Vogue). Pre-Fall collections are coming out now and I love, love pre-fall. It’s that romantic time between hot & cold where you can go bare legs but still match a scarf & coat. There’s so much variety that time of year. Accessory heaven. This image is from Foudre & is Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2012. Pop Culture Prescription: Video above is is the new Single from Lana Del Rey. I like her. Lyrics for this song are good. “Born to Die” by Lana Del Rey who was on SNL last night free on iTunes from Interscope intersco.pe/yRiKV2. Thanks for sending that over! Cute boy with all the tats form the Born to Die video is Bradley Soileau, he blogs & we’re friends on FB. NBD. He walked in the Cavalli show during Milan Fashion Week yesterday (14th). Pix on his blog. Cool interview here. There’s heaps of Men’s style from Milan shows on GQ’s tumblr:  gqfashion.tumblr.com My friends have beautiful house for rent  in Leslieville. I wish I was heading to Germany for Berlin Fashion Week. I’ve got friends there I REALLY want to visit. I love Fashion Week season. New York SS 2012 Fashion Week is Feb. 9-17 which is also Social Media Week, Valentines, and the Toronto Auto Show. The Art of Touch, Baby!

Hi from CES in Vegas! I’m sitting in the live audience of What’s Trending in the Venetian Ballroom right now. Some of my friends at Microsoft knew I would be here and wanted to share some gadgets with you guys. Before I left home Microsoft gave me a fancy soft touch mouse. I have it to Barbie cause she just got a new computer with Windows 7. Microsoft wants to let you know about The Art of Touch Contest going on with the chance to win sweet prizepacks every week from Dec 5 – February 26.  You have to create a piece of art on the website  artoftouch.com. I have two of the Microsoft Touch Mouse valued at $79.95 for YOU! Leave a comment before tomorrow when I leave CES and I will random pick two winners. DO IT NOW MEOW! <3 CASIE

I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I am saying.

This is where I live for the next few days. Luxor pyramid. can you believe I (randomly) had an Egyptian cab driver drop me off who wish me well in a language I didn’t understand. You should see how it lights up at night. Disco pyramid! I’ve heard the expression ‘only in Vegas’ a bunch since arriving less than 24 hours ago. I get it now. What a crazy place. Driving the strip last night was surreal after seeing it in movies and on tv my whole life. Hello, hello is anybody out there? Today I’m working from this massive Whole Foods market where they sell everything from booze to Toms and every single type of food. I made myself some pho which was really good but I put in WAY too many onions. Last night I met my friends at the Bellagio where we went to a party at The Bank then Hyde then Spearmint Rhino. Super fun. We had security and a driver, things I could totally get used to. The DJ was THE one and only DJ Jazzy Jeff and bubbles were falling from the ceiling. At one point I think the smoke set off the fire alarm and the whole place spent about 3 minutes with no music. I wonder how people that live here 24/7/365.25 days of the year handle it? I guess you get used to it. In other news I have a photoshoot on Friday and am doing something on TV back home on Monday. Scooting back to hotel now to change shoes and go to YouTube party. Ran into Twitter friend/fan Alex Kinsela from home at a party last night and he invited me to today’s Mashable party. We have never met and we finally do in Vegas. Crazy. I guess anything can happen…

Sunrise to Sunset: a bloggers work is never done always fun

View from my hotel at The Henry today at 8am. I really should get up early more often. The last few days Ford has dome a really great job of making sure we never go hungry. Food everywhere. Remember the candy bar the other day? At one of our stops today I raided this only ate one of these I promise. Some of the other kids have really good versions of this photo with more of us in it. It’s so incredibly cool to meet other international bloggers. There were all kinds of media represented including LifeHacker, Gawker, About.com, heaps of design magazines, tech writers, fashion bloggers. This car so CRAY CLAY! Look who it is…. We’re actually a LOT alike, seeeeeee. Meet Dylan, artist & uber babe from South Africa(the one I was creeping yesterday). Check out VISI design mag and his tweets here. A Little Razzle Dazzle in the Press

Sitting in the Product Development Centre at the Henry Ford Museum listening to a panel discussion on creativity, design, ideas, innovation & inspiration. It’s pretty neat because it’s not all Ford people there’s a mix of ages & backgrounds. I’m not gonna go into detail on it now so I  can actually pay attention. This photo was posted yesterday by Ford Europe from the Fusion press conference yesterday. Overalls from H&M, shirt StyleMint & vintage scarf from CTS. Today I was quoted in the Detroit Free Press and the article is here. There’s a video of Joallore too. We’re representing Toronto here in the 313! “There’s really cool booths where it’s like they’re not just appealing to you buying a car, but they want to create an experience for you – which is really cool,” said Casie Stewart, also a blogger from Toronto. Have an awesome day. I’m off to Vegas tonight for CES. Ahhhhhhhh! Exciting 🙂 xo CASIE

PHONE STACK.

The last time I did a phone stack at a meeting/dinner was GENYTO meeting meeting at The Pilot May 27, 2009 (having a blog is a great!). Was reading a post on the Kempt blog about getting together with friends. He said that when he meets with friends/colleagues they all put their phones int he middle and as htey all vibrate and make noise, you must rist the temptation to reach for your phone and if you do you have to pay. I posted this pic in 2009 and now I know it’s called a “phonestack”. Duhhhhh! Think I’m gonna make it a game with my friends this week. Knowing me, I’ll be the first loser to reach for the phone and burn myself at my own game. LMK if you give it a try and if you win. I don’t recommend trying it with parents.

Some things and thoughts…

There was a really beautiful sky last night. I love the view from our place. Living near the water is something I adore. I prefer the ocean but the lake is good too. Was recently sent a couple gift cards for Tim Horton’s so I could try out the new lattes. They were super nice to send a few extra so (I did a secret contest and) surprised a couple people with a gift. Tried the vanilla latte and it was ok. I reckon I prefer Tim’s regular coffee. So many memories as soon as I take a sip. Have you tried the Tim’s latte, what did you think? Going to Tim’s with Dad as a kid was one of my fav things to do on the weekends. He would always read the Toronto Sun. I remember we’d always check out the Sunshine Girl which is why I think I wanted to be one. Crazy that was over ten years ago. I think I look  younger/better now. Gimme a donut meowwww! Boston creme is my fav treat from Tim Hortons. Next week I’m heading to Boston for a visit with friends. When I arrive we’re going straight to the museum then a Rocky Horror show at night. Preeeeeeeety stoked.   Saw this painting at a meeting today. Liked it. Moooooooo. Went to Earl’s last night with Stephen. The Financial District is such an interesting place. Everyone looks the same, sea of suits. I wore the JC Night Walk shoes, harem pants from Raymi and that lovely denim jacket from Bicyclette, with Dior lipstick. These shoes spark conversation everywhere they go. Honestly, they are really comfortable and easy to walk in. Rarrrrr! Calculator phone usually gets a few commets too. It would be really cool if it solar charged or was a working calculator. It says…

Cougar Boots from Matchstick

This post is waaaaaay overdue…. Cougar & Matchstick sent boots way back in September but the weather was so lovely and warm I didn’t bust them out for months. And well, there’s no way for me to review something if I haven’t really given it a try! Now that winter is here I’ve been wearing them and they’re quite lovely. Leather & suede outer, slight heel and comfy to walk in. They’re not the warmest I’ve ever worn but luckily it hasn’t been THAT cold. Here’s me doing a little dance last time I got my hair done! You can get Cougar Boots at The Bay, SoftMoc, Sears or online at cougarboots.com. (Beware their site has auto music!) Stay warm out there! * For mega warm boots for your tootsie toes check out my posts on Moovboots!

Art Attack: arm doodle, healthy snacks & sunshine

Shortly before the holidays I got the ship tattoo I’d been wanting for ages. It’s part of a masterpiece that will eventually be a half sleeve on my right forearm. This beautiful rose the latest addition. I took this in Instagram cause it’s not as bright as it will be when it heals up nice yet but I wanted to share. Pretty eh? I’m thinking that the feather Stephen Shaw did will look really pretty if it’s coloured in kinda like this babe I follow in Instagram. Don’t mind what she is doing. You’ve probably done it too. Bob reminded me of the day I got my septum pierced last year. I’ve been really temped to do it again (sorry Bob and Darren too!). If I do get it, it will be a really small one that I can tuck up and hide from the world if I want to. I love when all my tattoos are hidden and then someone sees them is really surprised. Been eating more healthy snacks around the house lately. January is eat healthy and have a clear head time for me. It can be a really downerish time for people so I’m trying to make sure I feed myself good food & thoughts. One of the great things about our house is how bright the sun is during the day. It can be super duper cold outside but if it’s sunny you’d never know! Sometimes I feel like I’m getting a tan, if you close your eyes and imagine, you almost do. 🙂

Take a Different Look, See Things Differently

Had a good day working at home yesterday. Finished it off with a bevy downstairs at the Fox with Shan. My trend of winter hibernating has a bit of a new meaning now that I have to go less than 20 steps to a place where real humans hang out. Arrived there with two day old hair in a headband, huge Nana sweater, baggy harem pants from Raymi and an over sized fur. Trust me it sounds more glam than it looked. Man repelling hard. Watched a few episodes of United Stated of Tara on Netflix when I got home and discovered this cool thing from Google Earth. Check out these cool interactive polar panorama images. Nana’s old house in New Zealand: Napier Road, Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui. Behind Nana’s house are these massive windmills and huge hills like in Lord of the Rings,. My old house on Curlewis in Bondi Beach, Australia. It was a fave min ute walk from the beach. I loved living there. You might love this photo, depending what you’re into. 😉 Been thinking heaps about moving back there. Some days the desire is so strong. Yesterday was one of them. The house I live in until I was 21 in Cambridge. Condo city, heaps of tall glass buildings, concrete jungle and the CN Tower. I love this city, it will always be home no matter where I end up. Check out this creepy “Like a Doll” shoot I saw on Valfre’s blog. Man I love that girl. I don’t know her but I love her style and creativity.  She posts the cutest things and I really rad drawings. Isn’t it cool how you get to know a blogger through their creative expression? Starting to plan things for SXSW in March. Super stoked to go, I’ve been dreaming…

PASSIONATE VOICES + SAY MEDIA: Canada’s Social Media Cool Kid

Here’s an excerpt from a recent interview I did for SAY Media’s blog ‘SAY DAILY’. SAY is an awesome company out of San Francisco that works with “passionate voices” like me to to pair us up with brands and stuff. They publish cute venn diagrams each Friday. Your blog is called Casie Stewart: This Is My Life – in 140 characters or less, what is your life? Lots of hard work & dedication turning my dreams a reality. Celebrating life’s moments and making the most of each day. Awesome! You’re a social media expert in Canada – what are some of your social media secrets for the rest of us? Life is about building relationships and so is social media.  If you want to grow your audience, have conversations about other things than ‘just’ your business. You’ll make more friends that way. Start a blog! A blog is the home for everything you do online. Use Disqus commenting so that Twitter & Facebook are integrated within your commenting system. Read the rest of the interview here. Some of their other voices are Tavi Genvison, Seth Godin, and The Sartorialist. Check out interviews with Honestly WTF fashion babe Leah Chernikoff.  The HTC campaign I was in last year was with SAY and so are the fancy advertisements in my sidebar. In December we went to the their holiday party in Toronto and guess who was in their signage?! Me! I was totally surprised. I know Mum would have loved to see it. Next stop, billboard then broadway! Ok, no broadway but billboard has a nice ring to it. Stay warm out there!!

Bundle up yo. Packed on a fur on top of my winter coat for extra warmth. Sammy has more fur coats than me, haha. Came over to Raymi’s before my tattoo at 2pm. I’ll have have sleeve by summer I reckon. Lau, Raymi, Sarah and I invented #shitbloggerssay last night. You wait till we film that show! With over 200 million zillion blogs in the world it will surely interest a few thousand nerds like you us. I have so many days of photos and stories to blog, stay tuned for that later. Dear Photograph, see you in the future. xo

Over the holidays I hung out with my friend Taylor, the founder of Dear Photograph. I love this idea so much that I really wanted to submit a few of my own memories. Mum and I dug through TON of old photos and these are some of the ones that didn’t make it. You’d be surprised how hard it is to line everything up just right. Jenie & I with Johnny’s old car. I always had a thing for self photography.  Always likes to play in the rain too.  Stylish and plying the in the snow. Dad & I cut down the tree. This one is my fav & the one I submitted.

“Fate leads the willing and drags the rest.”

Mum woke me up, said she was excited. Reminds me of myself, sometimes I just can’t sleep I get so energized thinking about things happening that I spring out of bed and greet the day. She said she’s still excited from the Nutcracker and tomorrow I’m bringing her to the city with me. EXCITING! Wearing new sweater by Toronto designer Valentine K today. I was gifted it just before Christmas and have been saving it for dinner tonight with my two other sisters (Steve’s daughters). It’s cashmere and leather and so divine. See on FB here. Will take some nice photos (aka with an actual camera) when I get home from shopping. Mum always cuts out articles from the local paper for me. This one was about a guy who started an art project ‘Talent next Door’ with city hall and now is working on second and third books. The articles are always about writing, youth entrepreneurship, local designers or art. All the things I love really. She’s got inspiring messages all over the house. There’s New Zealand and Maori stuff all over the house too. These photos are from the Maori reserve in Rotorua. I’ve been there. Anyone else? I miss New Zealand and my family heaps. Had coffee & fruit salad for breakfast today. I love pineapple but fresh always hurts my tongue. You can avoid this by washing it in salt water. Posted some cute things & style on my fashion blog today. Heading out to get some stuff with mama, she’s looking for a camera, I just wanna drive around! For comedic relief and up the minute adventure diary, follow me on Twitter. Have an awesome day!

DESIGN: Let’s talk blogs.

I want a change. Something that integrates these four so called blogs that make up “my life” that really, are ALL part of “THIS IS MY LIFE“. I included FB because timeline looks & feels kinda like a blog to me now. Twitter and Facebook have recently changed their UI (‘user interface’ for non-nerds means the design, layout jazz) and mine has mostly remained the same since it was born. See here: We’re coming up on seven years this spring and I think my baby is deserving of a makeover. These are all the ‘blogs’ I update on the daily, Tumblr, Posterous, Twitter, Facebook, WordPress. I think Facebook is the prettiest. Tumblr Posterous Twitter Facebook WordPress (rotating header) I’d love to know what blog designs you really like, fav blogs? Ideas, things you might love to see here?  Ultimately, I’m gonna come up with some creative & fun way to spice things up for 2012. I’m ready for adventure! Ok, now I must prep for being back on stage in ballet shoes for The Nutcracker! I hope Mum brings me flowers! Ok no I don’t 😛

Dream Come True: On Stage with The National Ballet

At the age of three I started ballet. I danced at Meyerhofer Academy in Cambridge lead by Miss Lisa for ten years. I learned so many things from that woman. To this day Mum says I remind her of Miss Lisa. My first recital was at Humanities Theatre in Waterloo when I was five, I was a fluffy cloud in our annual recital. This photo & costume are from in my first Solo as “The Clown”. Mum made this entire costume out of a beautiful fabric and we still have it at home. After five I began competition which sometimes took me out of school to travel with the other kids. I went to NY and Myrtle Beach, SC to Showstopper, the National American Dance Championships and did heaps of competitions in Ontario. I was at the studio several days a week for most of my childhood. I guess that’s where my love for the stage & sequins comes from. (Thanks for that too Mum!) I’m extremely grateful that Mum kept me in dance even though we had some tough times. I learned heaps from growing up in dance. Tonight, I will be backstage, in costume and part of a show that as a child, I only dreamed of. The National Ballet of Canada’s The Nutcracker is Toronto’s favourite holiday tradition and this year the  Ballet celebrates 60 years. With over 340 performances and 814,635 people enjoying it since 1995, the National Ballet’s The Nutcracker has been hailed “the best on the planet”. Thank you kindly to the National Ballet of Canada for asking me to be part of The Nutcracker. Mum and her BF are coming from out of town to see tonight’s performance. It truly is a dream come true! Sammy and I will be Cannon Dolls and look a little something like this: Here’s a sneak peek from backstage…

A half eaten sandwich is a bad Christmas present.

Watched this yesterday, so lovely. I follow MBF on Twitter but had never seen/heard him sing. I think my dream man will do something like this. The song/video is super cute & will bring sunshine to you on this dreary day. Did you catch The Hobbit trailer? Are you in to LOTR? I kinda am. I fall asleep like, every time but I still watch. Currently waiting for Chevy Sonic to arrive and I’m gonna drive that baby all around town today when it does. Found a gas card in a drawer which is awesome! Only if I could find a PARKING CARD?! This vid from Jimmy Kimmel is quite hilarious. He asked parents to give their kids a pad present early and film it. You’ll have a good “haha” I reckon. Thanks for your votes in the G Adventures contest. With a late entry and only a few days left to go, I made the top 100. Please click this link and vote. You can do once daily until the end of the year. The more the merrier! Do it from all the computers in your house/office 😛 Car’s here. Gotta run!

Dancing Circles

Feeling like I might be coming down with something. Figures, post vacation and entering holiday season, confined to the house and the couch. Ok, it’s not that bad, all I really want to do is be on the couch with my computer anyways. Had to reschedule today’s shoot for next week. Barbie is away till the end of the year so I’m home all alone. I feel like my place is The Factory, a la Warhol and I’m gonna to churn out some really creative stuff before 2012. Check out this vid of my friend Mauricio surfing in Montezuma, Costa Rica. I was surfing there last month. He’s got a board cam! So rad. Happy Place posted the 50 Funniest Tweets of 2011 Andrew Carboni started a tumbler for his (Mis)Adventures in Asia. Follow it here. Remember the sexy creepy Movember video he made just for me? How did I make such a magical gif creation? Diptic on iPhone, Picasa, Gif ninja. You can figure it out of you want. IMDB – omg you know this girl 😉

THIS IS PARADISE

Ahhh. WHIRLWIND the last few weeks but nice to home. Not going anywhere but the parents till January. Reckon what happens now -March will determines most of 2012.
