TheTech | Business of YouTube: Buffer Festival Industry Day

There is no doubt that video is a powerful platform to connect with your audience. If you are a brand, blogger, or you want to be famous on the Internet, knowing how to work the YouTube machine is to your advantage. The key to this is to build a large follower base and have plenty of views on your videos. My friends at Mattel recently send me this pack of games. I decided to take them up to the cottage for some family fun! They recently hosted a bunch of blogger for Mattel Game Night where everyone was invited to play games over snacks and drinks. #TIFF14: The Annual Essentials Lounge #ESSENTIALSLOUNGE5

Yesterday I went to the Essential Lounge by EGPR and at the Templar Hotel, Toronto. I can’t lie, going to lounges is one of the most fun parts of TIFF! It’s a gathering of media, friends, brands, and it takes a great PR team to pull it all together. We get a glimpse of how the stars in town for TIFF are treated and to see what brands are gifting. I love rummaging through the goodies and sharing them with Mum, my sisters, bf, friends that come over. Here’s some of my fav moments all shot by Ryan Emberley. You’ll recognize a few faces! I started out with an express facial by Skinceuticals and went on to have my makeup done by tarte Cosmetics and hair by Schwarzkopf. #PepsiPopUp: Tickets + Show Details!

I saw two shows last night inside the worlds largest Pepsi bottle for a five day entertainment extravaganza, #PepsiPopUp. The location is Richmond & John and you really can’t miss it! It’s huge. There’s free shows each night this week until Sunday (scroll down for tickets!). Starting at 11am you can pop in for a refreshing drink and a bunch of activities. Tonight, Hollerado and Born Ruffians take the stage at 7pm. Pepsi is giving away tickets on a first come, first serve basis so you’ll wanna get there early! What to Expect: Drum Machine and challenging others to a ‘drum-off’. This drum machine was first made famous at the Glastonbury festival and Pepsi is now bringing it to Toronto as part of #PepsiPOPUP– the first time it’s been in North America! Seasons Change: September I Greet You w/ A Smile

Good morning! Bit chilly out there this AM. Crazy that September is next week. I love this time of year. There’s lots of energy in the air, back to school, back to work, seasons change, NYFW, and TIFF. I just noticed that a documentary I’m in has been added to my IMDB. ‘Behind the Red Carpet’ premiere is Tuesday at The Spoke Club and I can’t WAIT to see it. When I shot w/ George Pimentel for YYZ Magazine last month I found out he’d added a whole bunch of his work from Getty and award shows and it was looking good. On Wednesday next week I’ve got a portrait session w/ Caitlin Cronenberg at the IT lounge. She took my photo last year too (see here). See what people are saying about #NKPRIT14 on Twitter. Really loving this violet hair. I think I’m gonna keep it! It’s the first time I’ve permanently dyed my hair anything other than blonde in about 10 years. I really wanna grow it into a bob so this will help it be healthier along the process because i t t a k e s f o r e v e r . Travel |My Stay at Trump Toronto w/ HotelTonight

On Friday night I stayed at the Trump Hotel and booked my room using Hotel Tonight. I’ve known about the app for a while but was yet to use it. I was contacted to take part in an exclusive influencer event where a group of notable Torontonians met up for cocktails with HotelTonight co-founder Jared Simon. We were asked to pack a bag and come to the event where we’d leave to stay in a hotel later that night. Exciting! We were each given a unique code that allowed us a stay that night at one of Toronto’s best hotels. I was gunning for the Trump Hotel as I’ve never stayed there before and it’s oh so fancy. Others in the group stayed at The Gladstone, The Beverly, and the Thompson Hotel. Earlier in the day I chatted HotelTonight co-counder & COO Jared Simon about the app and what’s next. HT is the world’s leading last minute hotel app with a rotating selection of rooms made available each day with bookings open until 2am. After working in the travel/hospitality industry they were inspired to create HotelTonight, knowing that most hotels operate at a 60% occupancy. I personally think it’s an awesome idea and recommend the app when someone visits my city or when friends are looking to do something special with their partner. It was very easy to book my room using the app; pick a hotel, add credit card, book, arrive at hotel, checkin, stay, checkout. I asked Jared what’s next for HotelTonight and he told me expanding to even more than the current 500 cities, growing consumers (like us!), and innovating the app experience. An Afternoon w/ Susur Lee at Bent Restauraunt

Yesterday I spent the afternoon at Bent Restaurant w/ world-renowned chef Susur Lee, learning about his cooking an sampling the upcoming Veggielicious menu. The five-course vegetarian menu runs September 9th-20th at Bent, which he owns with his sons. Yes, he is holding two fish in the photo but they’re for the raw sushi bar! These didn’t last long! We started by making meringue desserts so they could bake while we explored the menu. I’m quite familiar w/ meringue as the Pavlova is a famous New Zealand dessert I’ve been making with mum as long as I can remember. We were given Susur Lee’s merengue recipe so I’m planning whip up a batch at the cottage this weekend and impress Sean’s parents. Look out! I Saw the Premiere of #Outlander and It’s Steamy…

This week I hung out with Showcase + Shaw Media for the premiere of their new show Outlander at The Caledonian on College. The series is based on the books by Diana Gabaldon. It’s pretty steamy and by that I mean I was like ‘omg’, jaw dropped, hand on chest in the first 10 minutes. It’s based in Scotland, accents and all. Blog Life: This Is How We Do

You know face you make when you’re looking deep into the computer working away on something? It’s on we all know well! This was me yesterday afternoon..and most days actually. Concentrating, editing, writing, coding, emailing, blogging, thinking, working, twerking. Ok, only sometimes on the last one! Went for a run this morning and pushed myself a bit harder. Feeling fresh and inspired. It’s so nice out, you should go outside. It was 21 at 9am! This is how we do! I’ve learned a lot of thing blogging the last (almost) 10 years. I can hardly believe it’s been so long. Persistence is a big part if making your dreams a reality. I thought about giving up a few times and doing something more traditional, like not keeping a diary of my life on the internet but each time I decide to go on, something amazing happens. What great thing would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?

I had a great day yesterday. I haven’t taken the subway for a while. It’s different taking the subway during work hours. I always wonder what everyone is doing. I don’t mind the streetcar, I don’t like the underground. I used to write TTC Tales (last one 2012) when I took the TTC to work. At one time, I travelled about an hour each way to work. I made a few videos about TTC loudtalkers after that. I wouldn’t make those videos now, social media wasn’t as popular back then. Heading easton the Bloor Line; try not to make eye contact. Look out the window, look out window. There’s a young guy with his sunglasses on playing golf on an iPad. I can’t see if he has a bag…is just carrying the thing? I smell hot food. It’s not McDonalds. Doors open. Please don’t let someone gross sit beside me… Went to the Trinity Bellwoods Farmers Market yesterday to pick up some green goodness. The market is on each Tuesday in the summer from 3-7pm. I was so hungry that I started chomping on lettuce leaves as I walked down Dundas. It was delicious. Dance w/ Me: #TedBakerAW14 + Holiday Preview

Last night I checked out the AW14 + holiday collections from Ted Baker London at Danceology in Liberty Village. I got to preview a few items a couple weeks ago an upcoming feature shot by George Pimentel, wore the pink dress! There are some incredibly beautiful items. Ted is a brand with impeccable details, the buttons, collars, inner linings, everything has a touch of personality. The holiday stuff is dreamy with heaps of sparkles. There’s a couple great leather items including a moto jacket with sleeves and a fur collar that zip off. I love this one. All leather. So soft. I love this little riding hat. Andrew Dobson just posted a story w/ a riding hat like this in Metro. But it has a long pony! BTW if you want a marble phone case you can get one here. In other news, there’s a Ted Baker London store opening at the Eaton Centre in October. It’s going to be located on the third floor right across from the Apple Store. Pretty stoked! It may be raining outside but there’s sunshine in here.

It’s been a bit gloomy up here the last 24 hours but I don’t really mind it. Hopefully we get some sunshine tomorrow. Jenie is coming to visit w/ her BF today and I can’t wait! Made a time lapse of the rain storm yesterday. It was magical with the sun shining through most the time. Posted the 15 second on Instagram here. Been doing some travelling w/ Kim Kardashian. I just can’t quit her! Looked at Sean’s old family albums and I knew he was cute but SERIOUSLY he is JUST SO DAMN CUTE. Look at this Jr. Blondetourage member! What a little legend. Easy as 1, 2, 3! Non-Permanent Hair Colour

Found this Colorsmash Hair Shadow in a gift bag from NXNE the other day so I’m putting it to good use. You never know what you’ll find in those things! I love hair chalk but find it quite messy and it makes my hair dry. I may have seen this easy non-permanent hair colour on Pinterest or made it up one day, I can’t remember. Since I have blonde hair, it’s really easy to tint but I don’t like to stick with one shade too long. Here’s my recipe for adding some sass to your hair without drying or damaging it. 1. Shave off some chalk into a small bowl and mix w/ conditioner. Use a knife or other tool you find around. Something that will make it into a power. It might stain so don’t use the good muddler or marble mortar and pestle from the kitchen. If you don’t have hair chalk you can use artist chalk from any art store (don’t use pastel or sidewalk chalk). Mix with any conditioner in a plastic container/bowl. 2. Mix the paste and put on your hair. To make the colour more intense/last a bit longer longer you can wrap your hair saran wrap to add heat. Don’t wrap your face. The actual colour of your hair will not be this dark. DNO’T FREAK OUT. Leave on for 10-30 min. 3. Rinse out. Most of the colour will go down the drain. This can be kinda messy. Use a dark towel. Once you blow dry you’ll have a dreamy light tint to your hair. VOILA! I’ve tried this with just abut every shade/brand of chalk (Kevin Murphy, professional brands, art store materials) and they all wash out in in 1-2 days. This one time I left saran wrap on with purple chalk-conditioner and the tint lasted 4 days before washing out completely. Seal…

#Muskoka: Life For Me Is A Riverboat Fantasy

Had a great weekend lounging at the cottage up in Muskoka. The weather was a bit cloudy on Saturday when we arrived but it was warm and I have no complaints! Boat is in the water so we got to do some cruisin’ around the lake. I’ve had David Wilcox ‘Riverboat Fantasy’ stuck in my head since yesterday. It always comes on 104.1 The Dock when we’re driving in cottage country. If you’re looking for some good oldies and classic rock, you can listen online here. My activities on Sunday included floating, reading, snacking, and sun tanning. Magazine reading has me thinking about layering. I know Autumn is a while away but fall fashion is just so dreamy. Brock & Jenn came up for the weekend and we are all obsessed w/ Doritos Roulette. They’re so freaking good! I’ve ordered two of these donut floaties and they should arrive before the long weekend. Love Your Life: Shangri-La, Hollywood, Netflix, Art

Remember last week when I went to the Vitamin A show at Shangri-La? Well, I shot the show with my GoPro and posted a video on Instagram as an entry to their contest…and I WON. The prize is amazing! I’ll be visiting the health club and spa at the Shangri-La in Toronto once a month for the next 12 months AND I get a new Vitamin A bathing suit once a month for the next year. Other parts of the prize include a gift basket from L’Oréal and a pendant from Birks. Huzzah! The contest was to post your fav look from the show and when I found out the prize I put some elbow grease into making something great. Here’s my winning entry! In other news, I’ve been playing Kardashian and I made the A-List. I know it’s stupid but it’s also kinda fun. I have a few friends who are also playing and it’s a hoot chatting about it with them over Twitter. Sean can’t understand why I would want to play this game when my real life actually has some similarities to the game. Next weekend we’re flying to Boston t visit friends and I hope to get to NY very soon. Finished The Fall on Netflix and really enjoyed the series. I’m practically a professional binger! Jillian Anderson stars in this BBC thriller. I love watching Criminal Minds and cop dramas so this one was like a really long good episode. There’s only 5 eps in the series. Been walking past these stars on my way to work and finally decided to take their picture. There’s art everywhere! Hope your week is going well. Sunday Gardening

Picked up a few things from Target on Sunday. Was not feelin’ so hot and thought a trip there and buying things might make me feel better. It did! I discovered a partnership between Pinterest and Blogger/Top Pinner Joy Cho and Target so naturally, I had to support. I also got a new camera. Garden is now in bloom and I’m feelin’ pretty good about it. I absolutely love spending time in my garden. I only wish it was bigger! My best friend has got a huge backyard because she lives on a farm. The last time we spoke she told me that she had just purchased a steel building to use as an annex. One of my first questions was “How much does a metal building cost?”, but when I found out, I was impressed with how affordable a building made from steel can be. Anyway, I cannot wait to pay her a visit soon to discuss her plans for her steel annex! Had some of our peeps over for a little visit in the evening and camera was a hit. Twice a year I rummage through my stuff and pack things up to donate to a clothing drive or second hand shop. World Pride 2014 – TORONTO

Pride was SO MUCH FUN. I’ve been going for years and this year, Toronto was host to WORLD PRIDE and it was bigger and better than ever. Let’s Do The Time Warp Again! Blog History #TBT

Today I’m taking you back in time and showing you some memories from June 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011. The main reason I started THIS IS MY LIFE was to keep memories. Writing things down has improved my ability to retain information over the last 10 years. June 2008 – SATC Movie came out and I went to a pink carpet party. Gave away an Energi to Go charger for iPod on the blog. It was one of the first things I gave away to readers like you. It was also one of my first pieces of branded YouTube content. Here’s the video. This hair, omg so long and dark! June 2009 – Pink hair for Pride. Blogged about Dermalogica for the first time. I use their products now and love them still. This old shirt of Dads. Bare arms with hardly any tattoos. June 2010 – Gladstone Hotel event, that feather tattoo has been covered by more tattoos. It was a nice one though. Sheldon, Hawley, Tristan Went home to see Mum, she gave me flowers from the garden. It was also summer of G20, I retreated to the island to escape the madness. I also protested in the G20. Well kinda, mine was more like a sexy protest. I wore lace leggins and combat boots and took photos of cute boys. 2011 – Katy Perry concert and I wore a sequin bodysuit with ruffles on the bum. It was so freaking cute. Always great to go back in time and remember fun moments in blog history. <3 CASIE

Look what Telus did for one of their longest standing customers…

When I watched this I couldn’t hold back the happy tears. I imagined what it was like for her, what it be like if that was me, or if it was my Dad who has been a Telus customer for almost 20 years too. If it gives you the feels, share with a friend 🙂 This act of kindness to show appreciation is the things dreams are made of. I think it’s incredibly awesome that Telus did this for one of their customers of 20 years. If your day has not been made yet, you will feel like making someone else’s after watching this. A month ago Em and I volunteered at the Harbourfront Community Centre in Toronto for the #givewhereweliveday. Thousands of company employees and friends from across Canada took part that day. This week the Telus Care-a-Van team is in Guelph, ON with a host of events and activities to specially thank TELUS local customers and the Guelph community. Telus truly cares about the communities they live, work and play. It makes me happy to have worked with them for the last five years. They’re a great bunch! Hope your day is great. Pop Up Perrier – Playground Party Photos!

Last week the Burroughs Building on Queen West was host to Pop Up with Perrier, a playground themed party for grownups. I worked with Community Agency to invite some of my closes friends, media, and socialites from the city to come out and get down.
