Take a Different Look, See Things Differently

Had a good day working at home yesterday. Finished it off with a bevy downstairs at the Fox with Shan. My trend of winter hibernating has a bit of a new meaning now that I have to go less than 20 steps to a place where real humans hang out. Arrived there with two day old hair in a headband, huge Nana sweater, baggy harem pants from Raymi and an over sized fur. Trust me it sounds more glam than it looked. Man repelling hard. Watched a few episodes of United Stated of Tara on Netflix when I got home and discovered this cool thing from Google Earth. Check out these cool interactive polar panorama images. Nana’s old house in New Zealand: Napier Road, Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui. Behind Nana’s house are these massive windmills and huge hills like in Lord of the Rings,. My old house on Curlewis in Bondi Beach, Australia. It was a fave min ute walk from the beach. I loved living there. You might love this photo, depending what you’re into. 😉 Been thinking heaps about moving back there. Some days the desire is so strong. Yesterday was one of them. The house I live in until I was 21 in Cambridge. Condo city, heaps of tall glass buildings, concrete jungle and the CN Tower. I love this city, it will always be home no matter where I end up. Cruise Control: Chevy Sonic, Hot Rods, Open Roads

Woke up pretty early and drove to Dad’s. It was so beautiful out yesterday, temp was about 4 degrees and I had the sunroof open. I’m completely in love with driving the Chevy Sonic. It’s small & zippy, good pickup I feel like it’s a little rally car. This is the exact vehicle I won in September from Chevrolet Canada live on youtube. I’ve never really needed a car, I lived with parents and the beach in Australia before moving downtown Toronto. I mostly walk, ride bikes or streetcar everywhere I go. It’s my first time using Bluetooth to connect my phone to hands free calling or get directions using OnStar. Hellooooo convenience!! Driven a few cars over the last year and one thing I really dig about the Sonic is that your phone charges while you drive when it’s plugged into USB. A few cars have USB now but they don’t all work to charge your device. The back seat door handles are on the window making it look like a hatchback also has extra trunk space. Driven heaps since Wednesday and still have gas too. The drive to Dad’s is nice country-ish roads. Tiny bit of snow in the backyard. After brekky got Dad to show us the garage and three cars he’s currently working on. My Dad builds hot rods and had a chassis shop when I was growing up called “Toys for Boys”. This pink rocket was my first car ever. He built it and Mum/him used to push Jenie and I around at car shows across North America when we were little. It’s dusty and needs a clean BUT IT HAS FLAMES. Life Was Made for Living So Try Your Best

Couple days behind on documenting my trip, it’s just so lovely outside, who wants to be on the computer?! Yesterday I went sailing to Tortuga Island and have HEAPS of photos. The day before I went to visit Tracy’s hostel and hung out with her & Barratt. This is her view! Breathtaking. Barratt and I had lunch at this little café and they gave us cutlery in plastic. Never seen that before. I had a sandwich but it was nothing special. While I was sitting there the owner of the place I stayed the night before walked by and asked to talk to me. My first thought,”sh!t, I’m in trouble for being loud, drinking and smoking” but that was not the case at all! He gave me back 5000$ colones ($10) because he felt bad that it was under construction and I had paid a full $20. Score! After lunch I waited at the bar (Choco’s) for the other Anamaya people to finish up surfing. I’m a bit silly though and forgot our driver parked somewhere else and I totally missed the ride back up the hill of death (mega steep). Liquid dinner again. Good thing though cause I met this lovely blonde girl from England named Jules. Her and I hit it off right away, she’s crazy like me! HI JULES! <3 One of a kind, & hand painted designer cigarettes. Ok, hand painted by me with Sharpie but cool. Borderline Artistic! Jules and I played pool with some local boys and we all brought our own drinks to the bar. Crazy! Meet the Israeli boys babes Evyatar & Amir. Quite lovely! Since there’s only one bar in town you get to know everyone pretty quick, especially when you’re tres friendly and Casie Stewart. I Want it Wednesday – Stolen Girlfriends Club

My fav NZ designers are jerks and send me a reminder that that sold out items from SS 2012 can now be pre-ordered. URGH YOU GUYS, I want everything! Damn you, STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB. NZ fashion is ahead all kinds from Canada. I’ve been following NZ style my entire life (Thanks Mum & cousins!) and season after season, the things that hit their runways end up here 1-2 years later. Before the internet it used to be like 3-4 years. In 2004 I came back from Australia in skinny jeans, and a fedora with a mullet. Friends here thought I was crazy then years later, BAM, skinny jeans & fedoras on every hipster in Bellwoods. North America is so behind. No wonder kids at school always thought I had weird fashion sense. Hey kids, “I’m not weird”, you being the same as everyone else is “weird”. SGC just did a collabo with JC for the Stolen Girlfriends ‘Emma’ boot (above) featured in SS 2012. Kinda like the Lita but cowgirl-ishy. I have a new pair of JC’s from Solestruck in the mail for when I get back from my trip. Yay. Ditched all my old crapped out shoes at the end of summer, restocking has begun. Late night online shopping has officially become my guilty pleasure.

It’s great for raising awareness about men’s cancers but Movember also raises awareness of two other things, 1) The sexiness of a man who takes care of his health and 2) The sexiness of well groomed facial hair. I was looking through old photos and came across this one. I shot it when I first got my PEN from Olympus earlier this year. I love the change in seasons we have but man I’m missing summer already. Next week I got to Costa Rica from the 11th-20th for surfing & yoga. Been ages since I surfed (Australia 2004) so I might start with a lesson so I don’t end up hurting myself! (God that would really suck) Learned yesterday that the Costa Rica Film Festival is happening while I’m there and at not far from my restort. Just my luck, I go or a relaxing vacation & there’s a film festival! we take this halloween thing very seriously

Halloween is my fav time of year. Have I told you 1,000 times yet? Y’know the week before halloween right after after Zombie walk. It’s socially acceptable, I feel, to be in costume anytime this week. Not that being in costume any other day isn’t ok. Once I did a pub crawl as Wonder Woman. DRESSING UP IS AWESOME. Today CTS is having a store party with DJ EL DEVINE (Elliott), candy, pumpkin carving and everyone dressed up. There’s a 50% coupon hid somewhere in the store too. I don’t wok here but I AM the Mayor and have been for some time now. Sammy carved this pumpkin himself. He’s a halloween virgin and last night was his first outing. Elliott is also Australian, double Halloween VIRGINS! It’s a damn shame they don’t celebrate halloween down under. One reason I’m extremely glad my sister and I grew up in Canada and not NZ. You can find Elliott at the Hoxton or somewhere Queen West drinking PBR. Lucas is ALSO Australian! Emma isn’t really preggers. When someone say here smoking there were DISGUSTED! haha If you are around come by will here here chilling for a while! Elliot is playing god tunes all afternoon 🙂

now that’s a pool party

I love this weekend. Mum has about 20 people coming tomorrow and five of us are going to be part of it. Cleaned the house today. The sunshine is beautiful. We are so luck to have this warm, bright weather. Slumber party tonight then home in early afternoon. Quite excited to see all the sisters together. Must not forget camera. I’ve packed up heaps of goodies to take home. I especially love bringing Mum a few things 😉 Found this dream boat while I was cleaning up. Cashed this at the coin machine today in Liberty Village Metro, ended up with $60. So convenient. I will only ever roll coins for fun from now on. When I was cleaning up I found this old Globe & Mail article with my sister and I on the Society page. Was for the most epic pool party I’ve ever been to, Bridal Bash II. We’re the “bikini clad blondes” who “commandeered a canoe” filled with vodka flasks who gave shots to the guests. Canoe was the best spot to see the concert, Burton Cummings & a girl from the Supreme’s. Recognize any of these people? Prize if you can. This track is the fav of the week on Bondi FM, my fav radio station in Australia. When I lived in Bondi and for the first few years after, I listened to it all the time.
