WWKCD: What would Kelly Cutrone do?

I watch more then I listen, but I dig the Gossip Girl style. Always dressed up, classy. I started K.C’s book today. Gonna read a little more before bed. I’m about twenty pages and into it. Her attitude is totally refreshing. She doesn’t put up with whiny, negative, bitchy, complainers, and she knows what she’s doing because she worked at it. I find her to be quite admirable and I’m looking forward to seeing her IRL. I love this: “Because, if you’re the kind of person who senses there’s something out there beyond whatever it is you’re expected to do- if you want to be extra-ordinary- you will not get there by hanging around a bunch of people who tell you you’re not extraordinary. … We have a saying in New York: when you’re the most happening person at the party, it’s time to leave.” – Kelly Cutrone, If You have to Cry, Go Outside       She grew up in a small town and always wanted the city. It’s inspiring to learn about people that do the kinda things you like doing. I’m glad I got her book today, I was due for a new one since that bee sting book before last Fall. I like reading. I read more books in the summer, winter is online time. I like to bike somewhere  with my book and lay under a tree,  on a park bench in the sun. Did you know Kelly Cutrone used to read tarot cards  AND married Andy Warhol’s protégé, Ronnie Cutrone at 21? She has worked with the best fashion designers and heaps of interesting creative peeps. ELLE wrote about her here and asked a bunch of questions. This is my favorite Q/A: On witchcraft: “A lot of people think I’m a Wiccan. I’m…

notabletv: hot babes tweeting

Last Thursday, I was one of about 100 people chosen to attend an exclusive event hosted by Notable TV. Good fun, great food, cool crowd, babes. Can’t ask for much more than that. You know these blog stars, Sean Ward & Carly. Blonde blogging babes, Carly, Lysnie, Casie, sounds so cute to me. I love Carly’s pink/blonde and Lynsie’s grey/blonde style. I’ve been thinking about grey with orange or pink or peach. Have never had orange/grey before, not on purpose at least. My hand looks really large to me here for some reason. I have small little hands like kid size .  I’m never posing with my glass like that ever again. Take note. Papapparazzi on these boys! If you come to this part, you will get your picture taken/be on camera. There is no way to avoid it unless you wear a mask. We were at Annex Loft Houses, Bathurst/Dupont and the night was called Nuit D’azure. The Loft House site plays automatic music when you go to it so I am not linking to it, pissed off at them for that.  I will also never buy a condo from them based on that single first impression in the 0.3 seconds it took the site to load. The crowd was fun and included all kinds of familiar faces to me. Sean Ward made this vid. I’m so freaking happy Sean and Carly had their cameras, I went back and redid this whole post. Makes a better loooking blog, my Milestone photos were subpar compared to power of a real camera. Catering by The Food Dudes, mme tell you, them boys make some tasty treats. Braised lamb with goat  cheese on a little crostini and beet bruschetta, amazing. I’ve been attending Notable events since Julian Brass launched around this time last year.…

a crazy person magnet

I found someone online last night. Interesting enough, found her self-shot nude in a Google of “red hair wheelchair“.  She found a chair on the way home from a party and was gonna use it for something artistic. Her name is Zoetica Ebb and she has the best blog I’ve seen. I like her. I think she’s about the same age, lives in LA,  Coilhouse along with Meredith Yayanos and Nadya Lev, a magazine of alternative subculture.  She blogs and takes photos. I added endless scrolling to my blog inspired by her blog. You can scroll endlessly for years never having to click ‘next page’. She also has short hair, is kinda crazy maybe, artistic, tattoos, blogger, takes pretty photos. Ah, so many great photo ideas. I need to be using my camera more. Found one girl who traveled through China and one girl who said her chair is a crazy person magnet .  Was actually looking for a this guy. She has cool style and blue hair. Remember when I had cool hair during Pride, it was pink and hot? We had fun that weekend.  It was crazy, but fun.

introduced to your blog via Professor at Queen’s U

Got this email last night… “I am a Film&Media student at Queen’s U. I was recently introduced to your blog via Professor Sidney Eve Matrix (specializing in social media trends), when she used your 12secvid status update as an example in her lecture on “statuspheres“. I checked out your blog and am very surprised at how you live your life so publicly. I am very excited about social media and am definitely a regular engager, but as a woman (this is going to sound weird) I get very discouraged from being more “open” to the public eye because of privacy issues ie. stalkers, perves, etc. How do YOU DO IT? How do you deal with people like that? Is this simply of your attitude towards things like this? You ignore them? This might seem like an odd e-mail, but I’ve been waiting to talk to a female who is deeply immersed in social media about issues of privacy and so forth…any input/thoughts/advice that you have, I’d be more than glad to listen!” I looked up Sydney and she writes a blog called Cyberpop, tracking trends of digital pop culture. Cool stuff there. I’m gonna reply to her student this evening. I never took any classes on social media, I was there when it all started. I spent so many (and still do) late nights diving  in head first and surfing through the world wild web; I kinda traded my surf board for a keyboard. Very cool to be part of a class, I hope for more stuff like this in 2010. If you ever wanna ask me something, go right ahead!

it was so weird at the time, i couldn’t stop myself

i’m not sure what happened but it did. i light went on. it was a few things that lead me there. creative people around me, compliments on creative work, being surrounded by smart, successful, creative business people. thinking about ‘it’s not how good you are it’s hot good you wanna be’, one of my favorite books. i feel like i can’t really go back now. they say if you do what you love you will have success, i love doing this. i love writing and taking photos and laughing at myself and remembering thing things i forget. it makes me happy to do social good; social good in funness, good causes, good people. i stayed up all night. learning about things. reading blogs, commenting. drawing in sketchbook.when i have an idea i write it down. i’ve found some neat stuff lately and most i’ve posted on my tubmlr blog. it’s all the things i find around the internet that i don’t put here but like to share. i read a great article called ‘the 7 vices of highly creative people, posted on salon.com, Feb. 9, 200o. i know i have my vices and bad habits, but i have good ones too. read it here. “If you go through life free of bad habits, you won’t live forever, but it will feel like it. ”

four and twenty, baked in a pie

Update: Ottawa had a Pot Protest yesterday. Check out this massive dube this guy is smoking that got him in the Metro. Nice one buddy! Canada is a wonderful country and Toronto a splendid city. Both are known places where people smoke marijuana regularly. Which is why you can always find cheap weed canada. Today is an extra rainy April day and also marks a day celebrated around the world in Cannabis culture known as 4:20 (four-twenty). Toronto has a pot friendly neighbourhood called Youngsterdam and a variety friendly places to smoke downtown. Each year in May there is a Global Marijuana March where people around the world protest for legalization and the right to smoke pot. This year’s event is Saturday, May 2nd. A few years ago I attended the Marijuana March at Queens Park. It was fun. There were over 20,000 people in the park celebrating so I figured, when in Rome!

More POTent than ever?

…now put this in your pipe and smoke it! Here’s some interesting news from the WIRED Blog: Modern agriculture hasn’t just made beef cows beefier and corn cornier, it’s also made pot more potty. The potency of marijuana, measured by the presence of its (psycho)active ingredient, THC, has tripled since 1987, according to the latest figures from the Department of Justice’s National Drug Intelligence Center. The new data from the University of Mississippi Potency Monitoring Project — which is not just a group of your college buddies talking about the differences between now and the old days — was released in the 2009 National Drug Threat Assessment. The Department of Justice attributed the steadily rising numbers to “increased demand for higher-potency marijuana and improvements in cultivation techniques.” [more]

beautiful losers – make something from nothing

As kids you write, create, draw, you make things. I was constantly making things with Mum and my sister at the kitchen table or in the garage with Dad. I painted, sculpted, drew, cut, copy, paste, glue, paper mache, you name it, I was doing it. This film is a collection of stories from artists who all felt at times that they didn’t fit in and now have shifted their ideology from being nerds, or weirdo’s to cool nerds and creative people. I’m waiting on response to see about showings in Canada. This movie ‘celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation.‘ Beautiful Losers film trailer from beautifullosersfilm on Vimeo. “In the early 1990’s a loose-knit group of like minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the “establishment” art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.” “Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories. It speaks to themes of what happens when the outside becomes “in” as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today’s youth.”

Totally Kick’in It – Bettykiss Inc. Style

Retro inspired and ravishingly beautiful. One of my incredibly talented friends has created something worth blogging about. With her amazing sense of style and personality to boot, Arianne’s Bettykiss Style Inc. is creating a revolution of clutch couture. Reversible retro inspired clutches that are bashfull and beautiful. Bettykiss Style “vows to remain true to the heart & life of a past era while injecting the sensibilities based on inspiration found in music, fashion & pop culture today.” I’ve been planning how many to order and exactly what styles and fabric I want. You can purchase via the webiste or direct from the group on Facebook (click picture to be redirected). I have known Arianne for several years and I am quite happy to see her true colors showing in such a wearable way. Well, a way I can wear her style now!! To quote and recognize the fabulous designer, “let’s make impossibilities deliciously attainable; temptation just became a little more tangible. It’s ALWAYS been about you – I don’t care what Joni or Janet have to say.”For more information click the photos to be linked up with my girl Arianne and her fantabulous style. ♥

Facebook Dominates Global Social Networking Sites

Check out this article from Business Week about how Facebook whoops everyone else’s asses. When Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to illustrate the impact of his social network, he tells a story about several young religious militants from Lebanon who changed their view of Western culture through Facebook friendships. The subtext to the tale is that free expression of ideas, enabled by the Web, bridges deep cultural divides. But we knew that: It’s one of the central concepts behind the Olympics, after all. What we didn’t know is that Facebook is in Lebanon. In fact, Facebook is quickly expanding in many regions. The site is the top global social network, according to figures released by comScore (SCOR) on Aug. 12. Of Facebook’s 132 million users, nearly 63% are outside North America. The site, which had been translated into 20 languages including French, Spanish, and Mandarin, has recently added 69 more. “Now, through translations, we are seeing a lot of growth in international countries,” says Javier Olivan, international manager at Facebook in a recent interview……..
