Montreal Roadtrip! #tbt

A couple of years ago Sean and I took a trip to Montreal for a weekend. We stayed at the W Montreal and had driven there in a car from Ford Canada. Montreal is dreamy in the summer. The W Hotel has a great breakfast, it’s own nightlife, and an in-suite tub you could stay in all afternoon. We had dinner in Old Montreal and took a stroll by the water the next day. This is a little video Sean made of our weekend. Original posts: August, 2012 I’m still at the cottage and thinking that living here would not be that horrible. I’ve gotten used to the silence and although it’s been cool and rainy the last few days, I’ve found comfort in having the fireplace on and wearing jogging hooded jumpers. Hope you are having a great week. 🙂 <3 CASIE

You may say I’m a dreamer, But I’m not the only one

Good morning and happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend. I just discovered that a Muskoka chair makes a great work desk. More of these in offices!  Sitting on the deck, looking out to the lake, catching up on emails, and writing this message to the world. Had a very relaxing weekend and plan for a very relaxing week. We’ve got some work to do around the cottage and I’ve got plans to work on a few internetty things I’ve been putting off. It took me a day to get out of city mode but now, I’m ready. Listening to the ultimate cottage summer station, 104.1 The Dock. ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon just came on. 🙂 You may say I’m a dreamer, But I’m not the only one I’ll try to space out all my #cottagelife posts with other things so it’s not overload (this is for you and me haha). I’m about to go out on the kayak and stare into the horizon… Here’s to a great week! <3 CASIE

I’m taking an actual no-work vacation next week.

Count down till the weekend is ON! I’m up at the cottage for an entire week starting Saturday. We have the cleaning lady taking care of the house while we’re away too. It’s the first time (in who knows how long) that I’m taking a no-work vacation. I mean, no obligatory blogging, tweeting, sponsors, or events. I’ve been around the world and back over the last five years but each time has been with a company or sponsored trip that required me to do something. Being on the internet has taken me on an amazing journey but it can also be very tiring. It takes a lot of energy to be always on, and sharing your life with the world. Here’s to celebrating each day and soaking up silence and sunshine in Muskoka! <3 CASIE

There is Such a Thing as Too Much Nature

And I discovered it it this weekend. Once again, I was attached by bugs. One little jerk even bit me on the eyelid and not it looks like somebody socked me one in the face. We had a relaxing time at the cottage with Sean’s parents, great dinners, and lovely weather. Next weekend is Field Trip so I’ll be staying in the city. Mum just informed me that if you take lots of B12 they won’t bite. Good thing I know that now for the rest of the summer! I’m really behind on blogging but it was SO NICE OUT this weekend I couldn’t bring myself to stay inside and do work. I’ve got a bunch of things to share this week! Stay tuned 🙂 If you haven’t yet, you can subscribe to THIS IS MY LIFE and get a nice little email delivery when I update. Each email includes 4-5 blog posts and is send once a week. I have spent a lot of time working on these emails, so I hope you enjoy. For any newbie bloggers out there looking for an email service provider, you might want to take a look at PieSync (the Mailgun vs Sendgrid blog post is particularly useful). It has certainly helped me. Here’s to a great week!

As Far as the Eye Can See, Panoramic Vision

Trinity Bellwoods park – the day I got my new bike. The same bike that was recently stolen 🙁 Smart Set photo shoot in New York City. The shoot I flew to NY to be at for 5 hours then home. Setup of the Grey Goose Cherry Noir party way back when. We trended in Canada that night. The view at my old condo that I don’t really miss. It was good while it lasted. The lake from the back of the cottage. We have so much fun up there, a little slice of paradise. Sometimes the sky was so beautiful from this view. I used to watch the planes land, dream of adventure. I don’t remember where this was. Another party, night on the town, when you look back they’re all the same. I’m pretty sure this was at The Spoke Club for an event. They have such great food there, I should be a member. Last week I water damaged my beloved HTC One. I loved that phone SO much. It was the best phone I have had ever. I put it in rice with hopes it would come but to life but I am afraid, it’s not gonna happen. Got a new iPhone 5s and these are all panoramic photos that came back from iCloud. I thought they would make a nice story.  The slow motion video and thumb print things are pretty cool to be honest. I go through more phones that anyone I know. Imma try and keep this little baby around for a while! <3 CASIE

WMCFW: Here’s How I Prepped for A Busy Week!

I had a lovely and relaxing weekend. Went to Screemers on Friday night for a good scare and spent Saturday afternoon at Hammam Spa. I’ve gone there a few times lately as a way to treat myself to some relaxation. this time I went a little early to relax in the steam room before my full body mud wrap. My skin felt like silk after! Thank you Hammam Spa for this little gift bag! I had tweeted them the day before about the 20% Stylicity discount (available now!) and they left me some goodies. Oh how I love the Internet! This little pink makeup bag is from Ted Baker London and I keep it in my purse to freshen up my look since I often head to events right after work. In it are always a few of my fav things: Essence Nailpolish – dries fast! Essence mascara – not expensive but great volume Rescue Remedy – if you have anxiety, this stuff is for you! Elizabeth Grant blue stick for redness – this stuff is great! Burts Bees – staple! Elizabeth Grant dark circle concealer Dermologica Age Smart primer & tinted moisturizer – both with SPF Moroccanoil Moisturizer stays at home but it’s great and smells wonderful I recieved a few things in the mail this week to get me ready for Fashion Week. A new toothbrush from Phillips and a whitening pen. I take really good care of my teeth so these were a treat! In other news, I was in an electric toothbrush commercial when I was 16. It aired in the USA, the kind you’ll see many a Dentist in Manchester and other dentists and surgeries within the US of A fully endorse and say they can be the best for your oral hygiene. These D.…

Where do we find the will and the courage to continue?

This is one of my fav songs on one of my fav all time albums. This weekend I sat alone, late and at the cottage kitchen table writing, finally working on that book I’m been talking about, and finally doing some web stuff I’ve been avoiding. It wasn’t until I slowed down, I realized how fast I was going. I’ve always liked MIA but “Live fast, Die Young” isn’t in my creative “take over the world” plan.  If I’m ever having a bad day, I go put on Lisa Loeb – Tails or White Stripes – Elephant. I love those albums. This is Dad and I doing the CN Tower Eggewalk about a year ago, almost to the day. It was so awesome. This Makes Me Happy When problems overwhelm, us and sadness smothers us, where do we find the will and the courage to continue? Well, the answer may come in the caring voice of a friend, a chance encounter with a book, or from a personal faith. For Janet help came from her faith, but it also from a squirrel. Shortly after her divorce, Janet lost her father, then she lost her job. She had mounting money problems. But Janet not only survived, she worked her way out of despondency and now she says, life is good again. How could this happen? She told me that late one Autumn day when she was at her lowest she watched a squirrel storing up nuts for the winter, one at a time he would take them to the nest. And she thought, if that squirrel can take care of himself with the harsh winter coming along, then so can I. Once I broke my problems into small pieces I was able to carry them, just like those acorns, one at a time.…

Green Eyes, Snoop Dogg, Flowers! Spring?

SPRING? WHERE ARE YOU! We had the cottage open this time last year and I’m pretty sure I had a tan. I’ve just about had enough, who do we call to make something happen about this weather? I hate to complain about it but that’s what we do in Canada, ok, say sorry heaps and talk about the weather. Ha! Despite it being kinda meh the sun sis out and I took a stroll through the park. I love that the tennis court in Trinity Bellwoods has turned into some kind of public (and very random) art gallery space. Thought this iceberg and boat was really neat. Makes me think of creative people, you see one thing on the surface but below that is a wild undersea upside down mountain of creativity. I am really into this car. I would like to drive around in it and listen to Snoop Dogg. You know what I’m sayin? Hit play and you’ll know. Wearing Green contacts from Air Optix Colors. They look really bright in the sunshine. It’s seriously been so fun trying out all these different colours the last few months. Check out all the other colours I’ve tried out here. You can get Air Optix Colors from your eye doctor and as a new contacts wearer, I like that they are comfortable and allow my eyes to breathe. I reckon if you are someone who wears contact all the time this would be the most fun cause you can switch ’em up each month. For more info visit airoptixcolors.ca. These are for you. You deserve them! Sister selfie! Follow Jenie on IG at @jeniestewart. Hope you are having a great day and enjoy the flowers. I’m sending sunshine your way since ol’ Mother Nature is still holding out on us. <3 CASIE   * Disclosure: This…

You Might Need to Open Your Eyes, Left Right, Uptight

This is an awesome hipstery playlist. Fav from the cottage. I’m LOVING Rdio. Yes, they gave me an account but they sure don’t MAKE me listen to it. I started playing tunes on the mobile app last night and my life has a new soundtrack. I’m into music but I’ve not got the time to be up on all the latest bands and tunes. I like how easy it is to discover new songs. Bunch of good ones here: O’Nizz posted this on FB. haha. Way cooler! Check out this new vid by good friend Morgan Cameron Ross for Hey There Darlin’ featuring supermodel Tara Gill. Last night he played  the Little Lake Music Fest with fellow Vancouverite Carly Rae Jepsen. Way to go Mogan. Love ya! Watched it a zillion times before I posted it. So dumb but funny.

Going Home

Older people always tell you ‘time goes fast then’ you get older and you become that person. It’s true. Both things. When I get really drained from life & the city I like going back to my home town. I grew up in Cambridge, Ontario, I went there this weekend. Have you been? It’s quite lovely, and quiet and you can see way more stars. I have a group of friends there that I always see. One even lives across the street in Toronto but I pretty much only get together him when we’re all home for a holiday. It’s awesome. No matter how tired I get from travel, events, work life, nothing reenergizes me like some home cooking and chatting at a familiar place with the crew.  Other great re-energizers are yoga and cottages. This weekend has for once (in a longish while) been really relaxing. Saturday night I had a hot tub and went to bed early. Friday night I had poutine and some serious Draw Something. Add me: casiestewart.  We all get so busy and technology is such a part of our lives that it’s really hard to shut off. Ok not for everyoneeeee but lots of us. Especially me. I’m sitting in my old room at Mum’s as I wrote this and it’s quite magical how inspiring it is for creativity. Tonight her and I went on a date to see Hunger Games and I loved it; girls night AND the actual movie. Have you seen it? The fashion made me really excited for Halloween. Or whenever! Look at those lashes and hair. I love this, I do. Hat gloves, earings, eyebrows, lipstick. I know I’m late to the boat but sheesh, why didn’t anyone inform me of this. There was even love story! The movie used 35 full-time makeup artists. And there were…
