I’m sitting in the beautiful lunch room at the Telus tower downtown. Sun is beaming in the windows and the chefs behind me are whipping up a soup & crepe just for me.

My first ever cell phone was with Telus back in 1996 when they were Clearnet. I love this company and am especially fond of their branding and advertisements. I will now pay attention & have my lunch.

this is like the hardest decision I’ve faced in ages…

Sorry you're faced with the unspeakable trauma of having to choose between a BlackBerry and an iPhone

It would be MUCH easier if one of the companies would just CALL/TWEET/EMAIL/SMS/COMMENT/FB me and say:

“Hi Casie, I’m “awesome person” from “company that loves social media, buzz & cool people talking about us online/offline all the time” and we’d like to give you a phone! I will say “ok, love you forever”.

Easy pleasey. Mama needs a new phone. Gonna get one real soon anyways but I though I’d throw it out there. You don’t ask you don’t get as Mum says! I’m using a non-smart dumb phone at the moment cause I had to give my old BB back.  It makes me sad. Saddy, sad, sad.

I wont even get into the Blackberry Intervention I had from 5 friends the other night.

My fingaz are CROSSED. [closes eyes and makes a wish]

That is all for now.

Some of my favourite tech things right now for SPRING.

This is Sacha (above) and we work together on Telus. I’ve been partnered with the Telus team since 2009, my longest relationship! Working together has brought us closer as friends and every time we meet to ‘work‘ it hardly feels like we’re doing a ‘job’. I’m smiling as I write this thinking of all the LOLs we had last week at the Eaton Centre Telus Store. Don’t know if you’ve been in a Telus store recently but there’s HEAPS of home, audio, fitness, and fashion tech, aside from phones.

I cruised the store picking out some tech things I love, to share with you. Here’s a few of my favourites right now and why I love them.

JBL Clip 2 – Travel & Party On with This Loud Lil’ Thing

I was sent to CES (Consumer electronics Show, Vegas) in January with Harman, the parent company of JBL. This little speaker packs major power and the 2017 version is waterproof not just water resistant. At CES they had them planing tunes in the water.  Last year at the cottage I used this little buddy so much and it’s my go-to travel speaker for hotel room dance parties. It’s surprisingly LOUD for it’s size.

Lose your stuff all the time? Me too! Get a Tile!

I backed Tile when it was a Kickstarter a bunch years ago. It’s a little plastic thing with Bluetooth that connects to an app on your phone.  You put them on your stuff to track it and the device makes a noise when activated. I can not tell you how many damn times I have lost my keys in the house, in a purse, in a jacket, in the couch, behind the couch, in the blankets, in a drawer, or in the pantry (yes).  Turn on the app, locate keys, listen for sound, then rush to your Uber before he drives away. Life saver. The new Tiles are also super small.

DON’T BREAK YOUR PHONE (again 😩)

I love my iPhone so much but for SOME REASON I can’t take care of it like a grown up. Up until Sacha and I hung out last week, I was going around without a screen protector on my new iPhone 7+.  WHAT WAS I THINKING. I picked one up that day and high recommend you don’t leave home or the mall without one.

* I dropped my phone the following day and it must have been a sign because I would have for sure cracked my screen. I recommend one that’s glass and something that goes edge-to-edge. A good one can be $30-50 but think how much cheaper that is than getting your screen repaired. Right? Exactly. Grab a case while you’re at it.

I can’t force you to protect your phone, stop you from losing your keys, or make a party happen (ok that I can do) but I can suggest you peek your head in, and take a stroll at your local Telus store. I think you’ll be happily surprised!

Over the past few years through my work with the company, I’ve helped out in community projects, raised money for the Make a Wish Foundation, taken Emily to WE Day, supported WWF, donated electronics, and more. I’ve always loved their commitment to communities, people, and the environment. We’re planning some more things for this year and I’m really looking forward to it.

They recently brought back the ‘Future is Friendly‘ slogan and this commercial shows how they do so much more than just phones.

P.S. I was walking home from yoga the other morning and someeone in the neighbourhood had two of these tiny fur tiger things just sitting out on the columns at the end of their walkway. I looked at them and it was like we had a moment. Took this with Portrait Mode in on my iPhone 7+ (no filter). Such a cool feature. Mine is from Telus obvs. I don’t know if they are still there but I will never forget their stare and sharp, sharp teeth.

Yesterday was full on. By 4pm I was back at the 1188 office and would have killed for a nap. I had 3 things earlier in the day, a call about a new project, then had to pick up Em form daycare, help her w/ homework, and make sure all was cool w/ sitter, and head back to work. I really love what I do but some days it’s super exhausting. Working for yourself has perks but being the face of the brand, writer, editor, admin, finance, marketing,  agent, and accounts receivable can take a lot out out of you. I’m only one woman! Add on step-mama to an 8 year old and partner to an entrepreneur, tbh I get damn tired.

looked cute today tho

Although yesterday was tiring, it was really great.

Arrived at the 1188 office w/ Sean early to help out. Then went to the ReThink Breast Cancer breakfast. I’d done a bunch of things on my phone before then including Nike (NTC) workout on the roof and didn’t realize my phone was almost dead. URGH! So, off I went to the breakfast sans phone.

Ready to show off @rethinkbreastcancer’s latest partnerships and brand new #giveacare collection tomorrow!

A photo posted by Alison Lawler-Dean (@allield) on

The new collection is so nice. I truly love the work they’re doing. Once I get photos I’m going to share here. ReThink is a breast cancer organization that aims to help raise awareness for young women dealing with breast cancer. One of the things I reallllly love is their BARBIE brand partnership. If you know me well, I FREAKING LOVE BARBIE. I still have all mine at mum’s house. Also a few collectors ones still in the box.

Next I went to 1 King West to check out ‘The 48’, on the 48th floor their new office suites and meet with their team. I’ve been thinking about getting a desk space and they’re interested in working with me, it was a good meeting. The space is beautiful. I couldn’t help but think of all the things I could do there, events, shoots, meetings.

Before heading to my next meeting I had a call about a cool project w/ young entrepreneurs & Capital One. I worked w/ them on a campaign last year and was a young entrepreneur myself so I’m jazzed about it.

Kelly sounds like fun! haha TBH I have one of these and I love it

Took the TTC to Fleishman Hillard to learn about the new FitBit. I like my Fitbit and the stats that come with it. The intersection of fashion X tech is something I really love and they had some cool stuff. These were my fav. The new leather band, bangle, fashion collabs w/ Public School (braided one), and the new Alta watch.

JUST before I went to this presentation, I was making a Snapchat 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 at the TELUS store and WALKED INTO THE WALL. Fml. First time doing that and thank god I didn’t bang up my face/teeth. I bruised my hand and it’s kinda tender. I don’t think anyone saw. Lol derp.

Picked Emily up at 5:30 and took her for a Happy Meal. They have great toys rn. WONDER WOMAN! Something you might not know about me is I have TONS of McDonalds toys in mum’s basement. Heaps still in packages. We don’t know wtf to do with them!

I really like helping Em with her homework. My mum was at home with us until I was 16 so I really understand the importance of focussed attention to help her learn.

After making sure all was cool w/ her and sitter, I went back to work for a bit.

Safe to say I wrote most of this on mobile while pacing in the kitchen.

I document days like this so I can look back and remember. That’s really why I started blogging 11 years ago, to keep more memories. It worked. I love looking back in my archives to see how far I’ve come, much I’ve changed, and remind myself to keep at it.

In other news, next week I’m meeting with Twitter Canada, shooting w/ TELUS, and going to Florida for a week.

Never a dull moment, THE HUSTLE IS REAL!

It’s Always Summer In My Heart

Last Week of Summer? Doesn’tFeel Like It! Today is SO HOT OMG. I’m wearing shorts and t-shirt and feeling so happy.

We had a great weekend at the cottage. It was just Sean and I for a few days. Lots of relaxing, naps, great food, laughs. I love the VIEWS but something else I really love about the cottage is the drive up together and driving long, winding country roads. There’s something so magical about it, laughing together, singing old songs.

The leaves are just starting to change and I said ‘I LOVE IT THIS TIME OF YEAR’, his reply? YOU LOVE IT ALL TIMES OF THE YEAR! It’s true, I really do. Each season and type of weather has it’s beauty.

Today I’ve got an afternoon with TELUS to meet with 2016/2017 Team TELUS Advocates. I wrote about that here. They sent a welcome package last week with the INSTAX printer! I love this thing so much. I’ve been carrying it around in my purse ever since. THANK YOU GUYS!

On our way to the cottage we stopped at Rocket Fireworks, Sean loves fireworks so much.

I got up each morning and went out on my stand up paddle board. I love this outfit, denim bathing suit, flannel. Perfect fall cottage attire.

Finished reading ‘in a dark, dark wood’ this weekend. Good book. crazy story about old friends and one of them getting married, a hen party gone wrong. Received it at the Essentials Lounge by EGPR during TIFF. I have to admit, it was kinda weird picking up a book-book spending the summer w/ my Kobo. [See my list of summer favs here!]

While out for a Sunday drive we discovered Wahta Reserve, aka the BEST PLACE TO BUY FIREWORKS. Look how happy this guys is!

Spent the last night out for a long SUP session then lit a smoke grenade to close out summer! We’re back up this weekend and I am totally crossing my finger for more warm weather.

HAVE AN AWESOME DAY!

Holiday Mode

This time is year is so hectic, ahhhhh! Lots of running around from now till Friday! Today mum is coming down to help me with some office elfing, aka getting presents ready and delivering to clients.

This weekend at home was so nice, a great start to holiday mode. With Christmas on a Friday this year, I think it’ll be easier to really take some time to relax.

I’m totally in in love with these little sweaters Telus sent over to help get into official #HolidayMode. The entire campaign is great.

[vine id=”imeeM6z0dHx”]

Do you know a tablet Dad?

[iframe id=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/R37Cx8QwDtg”]

I probably spend the most time on my gadgets around my family but this holiday season, my goal is to spend less time staring at my phone and more face-time with the ones I love.

I like putting on the (digital) fireplace, reading a book, or simply relaxing on the couch and staring at it. If  you don’t have one via cable already, pop over to the Telus YouTube and put this one on your tv.

[iframe id=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/WSpXLtbhRaU?list=PLZzZFlOdIAXahCRBhRx-t44BlBcRFPdEL” autoplay=”yes”]

I love the Internet and technology and how it keeps me connected to the world, but, taking a break from it is totally awesome too. Your batteries need a recharge.

Thanks Telus for helping me get into holiday mode. Can’t wait to cook Christmas dinner later this week! OK, off to do my efling!

Enjoy the day!

Friday, I’m In Love – Holiday Style!

I absolutely love this. One of my fav songs since I lived in Australia 10 years ago. Heart warming to see this big group singing amongst the lights of the Toronto Christmas Market. I’ve not gone by there yet but plan to pop by next week during the day.

[iframe id=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/LvUnBEA7_ZI”]

Something cool about this vid and another reason I wanted to share…

To perform Friday I’m in Love, they required permission from Robert Smith of The Cure. After he watched a short clip they sent him, he loved it SO MUCH he asked them to donate the licensing fee to charity. Together, Koodo & Choir! Choir! Choir! (80 choir singers in TO)  are donating that fee towards sponsoring a Syrian refugee family.

ALL THE FEELS. I love it.

In other news, I went to the Koodo office during my last Telus visit and it’s full of bright colours and smiles.

Happy Friday, spread that holiday cheer!

This Is My Life | Cyberbullying

Putting yourself out there on the internet or *IRL takes a lot of courage. Having a blog opens you up for all kinds of criticism, haterade, or anonymous comments. My world, the one I’ve created online, is pretty positive, but I’ve had my share of cyberbullying.

Telus has an award winning Canadian program about how to protect you and your family online. They offer online info and offline info like in-person training sessions for business customers and their fams.

Telus is one of my longest standing relationships and this program is one of the reasons I love them. Not to mention the owl for this campaign. I like owls.

I’ve had more than one stalker over the years and had to contact the police several times about something internet related. I don’t share this stuff often because it’s hard to talk about. There’s also SO MUCH sad/bad news out there I want this to be a happy place for you when you’re having a bad day or want a cheer up.

The things about bullying is it can stay with you forever. It’s hard to forget they way they made you feel.

A couple years ago a ‘friend’ had been commenting mean things under an alias for months. It was really hurtful, the things she said were spiteful, stuff only someone who knew me would say to be mean.  I did some investigating and finally tracked the IP to her parents house and confronted her. She admitted she was jealous and was sorry.

Someone may apologize but the hurt stays. I was bullied heaps in school. In grade 9, a girl who failed and was in my grade spread rumours about me to the whole school starting with her grade 12 sister and her friends.

I distinctly remember a few girls a year older than me singing ‘All By Myself’ as I walked back from lunch break. I used to go home to my dad’s place across the street and watch Young & the Restless at lunch across the street, it was great! Except the walking back to school part… These girls sat in the school parking lot, smoking, gossiping, and they’d make fun of me, yelling mean things almost every single day. They also egged my house a couple times. I grew up in Cambridge, Ontario, it was fairly common in small town.  Strangely enough, a few of them are friends with me on Facebook and I bet they probably don’t even know how it made me feel, or remember.

My sister and I wrote down all the stories of girls, and a few boys being mean to us, determined to write a book. Until I get that book written, I have a blog.

A new national study has found youth are motivated to intervene when they witness cyberbullying, but would be more likely to do so with better support from adults. TELUS WISE, in partnership with PREVNet and MediaSmarts, conducted the research to understand the attitudes and experiences of youth who witness cyberbullying and the factors that influence whether or not they intervene.

I imagine if there was social media when I was in school and how hard it must be for kids now. On the bright side, bullying gets a lot more attention and is now punished by law. Be nice people!

Key insights from the study that stood out to me include:

  • – 42 per cent of youth said they have been cyberbullied while 60 per cent said they had witnessed others being cyberbullied
  • – 71 per cent of those who saw cyberbullying did something to intervene at least once
  • – 90 per cent of youth said they would intervene if their family member were the target of cyberbullying while 37 per cent would intervene for someone they do not know personally
  • – Youth’s top-rated intervention strategies involved talking to an adult

If you’re ever feeling bullied or like you wanna each out to my my email is casie @casie stewart.com. If you wanna chat with someone else call here. For info on how to talk to your kids about bullying or resources for yourself, visit wise.telus.com.

This Is My Life | Photoshoot w/ Motorola = #Motoshoot!

Last night I popped over to the East end for a shoot with Motorola inside the studios at 388 Carlaw. A bunch of bloggers & Toronto influencers were welcomed to try on the new Moto 360 watch and get shot by none other than legendary fashion & celebrity photogrpaher Mike Ruiz.  Who is a totally hot babe btw!

Nothing quite like bright lights and a famous photog to spice up an otherwise rainy day. The night was hosted by She Does the City and the set was super fun with vibrant colours and shiny balloons.

Mr. Ruiz was shooting us with the new Moto X Play phone. It has a 21MP rear camera and 5MP front facing camera. It also has a water resistant coating (useful is you’re a bit klutzy!). I can’t wait to see all the snaps he took.

We all came home with the Motorola 360 Watch and the Moto X Play phone. I picked Rose Gold to match my new iPhone 6s. It’s really pretty! The Android Wear app is in the Apple Store now and connects your Apple device to the watch.

Thanks Motorola Canada + She Does the city for a fun night w/ Mike Ruiz. I love when things get real cute!

One of the things I really love about Telus is their commitment to customer service. They feel great customer service starts from the ground up and they’ve made a commitment to telling Canadians they need to Expect More from their telcom providers.

Today I’m sharing a couple other great customer experience stories from other companies putting customers first.

Little Burgundy – Broken Boots

Near the end of summer I purchased a killer pair of boots designed by Jeffrey Campbell from littleburgundyshoes.com. I’ve been wearing them regularly but recently the cool cut-out heels broke.   I didn’t want get stuck on the phone ringing customer service so I sent a tweet with some photos to @LittleBurgundy and they replied within about 30 minutes. It took about 5 min to fin d a new pair of booth in store and the return was easy.

I really love when a company is socially connect and able to help their customers over Twitter.  Nice work guys! Now I will check out the sales and probably buy more. 🙂

Go Daddy – Server Upgrade

I’ve been with GoDaddy for my website hosting since switching over to WordPress from Blogger.com years ago. I’ve had nothing but great customer service from their team. I’ve had them renew my domain (until 2022!) help with a hacking situation (on the 1st day of TIFF!) and more recently with a server upgrade.

GoDaddy recently changed their hosting and the plan I was on no longer had analytics. As a blogger and online business owner, the stats are important to me. I had considered switching to another host when their help team offered to look into my situation. Instead of just saying ‘you need to upgrade it will cost $X amount‘ they backdated my server upgrade and back dated my hosting to save me money.  It made me feel like they really valued my business and me as a customer.

Uber Canada – Lost Wallet

I’ve been using Uber since they arrived in Canada and have had nothing but great experiences. A couple months ago, on a busy day I left my wallet in an UberX car before dance rehearsal. I didn’t realize until about 2 hours later when it was time to head home. I sent a DM to @Twitter_Canada and within minutes they had contacted the driver and found out he was still on the road. The driver got in touch with me then drove to my house to drop it off. I was seriously impressed and despite him trying to refuse, gave him a big tip.

Great customer service doesn’t always need to cost a lot of money or take heaps of time, it’s really about listening to what someone needs or being smart about solving problems. Over the last five years I’ve lost/broken a number of phones or needed to replace my SIM card and Telus has gone over and above to help me out. Earlier this year I joined the team as an official Telus advocate with their #TeamTelus program. To check out the whole team of 15 visit their blog here.

Yesterday was an action packed day that started with me picking up this beautiful new pink iPhone 6s. THANK you Telus! I was due to get a new phone and my old iPhone 6 has been cracked for at LEAST a month. I’ve been using my new Samsung tablet heaps for drawing lately and totally love it.

Spent a couple hours at the office before heading to Roy Thompson Hall for a private sit down with with the Indigo Girls. This was the first in a new series of events called HALLer w/ eOne Music and Roy Thompson Hall & Massey Hall. It was pretty rad!

Next was a SS16 fashion preview with Swarovski at the Four Seasons then a foodie event with Elle Cuisine catering.  This week has been awesome and I’ve got 4 things to go to tonight. Tomorrow night is no exception, Sean and I are hitting up Buffer Fest’s opening night gala. Buffer is a YouTube festival.

Tonight I’m heading to fashion week and wearing an outfit similar to this but different designed by Rachel Sin. My outfit is from her SS16 collection. Never a dull moment!

Look what came in the mail today! This is amazing. I can’t wait to take it home!

[vine id=”eVei3EgWxVI”]

Been colouring  my hair all week with these fun little Dippity Do chalks. Today’s colour is violet!

Ok, I’m running behind, and have spent too much time on the internet once again! Have a wonderful night. If you are looking for entertainment I’ll be Tweeting from back stage and front row at the fashion week tents!
