I love you Mum, Happy Birthday!

When I was a little girl I always wanted to do things my own way. I picked out my own outfits at a very young age and sometimes they were … questionable unique. Once I left the house in one orange sock and one green sock to match my orange and green outfit (mum may have made?). I left the house feeling confident and stylish, ready to take on the world. (I was like, 6 or 7.) One of the neighbours said to mum, “you’re going to let her go to school that?”, she replied “if she feels confident she can wear whatever she likes”. Bam. Thanks Mum. You have always encouraged me to be creative in all the things I do and now as a grown up weird and wonderful woman I could not be happier. You are the best, ILU.

For My Special Ladies

I intended to post this for International Women’s Day but to ME, every single day is a day to celebrate the wonderful women in my life. Two of the most very special people to me today, and forever will always be my beautiful Mum and my sister Jenie. I love them dearly. Rounded up these images from old posts. This ones for you girls, I love you and you mean the world to me. Us on the set of American Pie Beta House years ago. And this is for you too… For all you other ladies out there, don’t wait for a special day to tell someone you love them. Tell them now! Sending sunshine your way, <3 CASIE

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving last year all the kids were home. Boys. Girls. It was so fun. I love thanksgiving because it’s just about hanging out and hangout out is my favourite. I miss my family in New Zealand. I can’t wait to see Mum. Taking Dad to Canada Rugby final this weekend, VIP. This is my first actual “long weeeknd” in two years. I have worked every day no matter what day it was. I’m not gonna change much about what I do on the holiday but it changes how I feel. Thanksgiving Day is a holiday to give thanks for the blessings in one’s life, particularly the harvest. It is a day off work for many Canadians. Happy Friday & BON WEEKEND! <3 CASIE

Team Stewart Family Fun

Today is Mum’s birthday. I took her on a shopping spree at 3F (I’m on the Board of Directors there) and got her a couple new outfits. The store has a massive sale and you can get 10 items for $100 right now. We have a meet & greet with The Sheepdogs before the show tonight. I’m stoked to take Mum, Jenie and a few friends thanks to my friends at Canadian Club. Hopefully it’s not too chilly by the water at Echo Beach. Looking forward to rocking out with my girls tonight! Wahooooo! CASIE

She Gives The Best Advice

Had a lovely weekend with Mum. Brekky waffles were to die for. Heading back to the city. Tomorrow is my last day cruising in this Infiniti G37. I absolutely LOVE this car. Time to hit the open road in the sunshine! You are the author of your own life story, make it an adventure! Have fun. Call your Mum and tell her you love her. Heck, call someone else’s Mum too while you’re at it! Enjoy the day! <3 CASIE

Entrepreneurs Don’t Call in Sick, They Work

When you work for yourself you can’t really call in sick. I felt a bit of a cold coming on when I woke up so I’m going to work from bed today with hope of kicking this by tomorrow. In Boston this weekend and a cold is not an accessory I’d like to pack. Y’know what I’m sayin’? I’m cookin’ up lots of fun stuff to share with you over the next coming weeks. Thinking that my new classes from Clearly Contacts will arrive today. I might whip up a nice home made soup this afternoon. If you are AT ALL feeling sick here’s two cures from my darling Mum that will kill those bad germs like the soldiers in Louie Pasteur kids book (it was my fav!). Cure for throat here & cure for overall cold/sickness here. Thanks Mum 🙂 P.S. I entered to win this TRIP TO BAHAMAS. You can too right here. Mum just came back from a year there and wouldn’t we ALL love to be there right meow. <3 AND one more thing… MY SXSW PANEL IS SCHEDULED!

“Fate leads the willing and drags the rest.”

Mum woke me up, said she was excited. Reminds me of myself, sometimes I just can’t sleep I get so energized thinking about things happening that I spring out of bed and greet the day. She said she’s still excited from the Nutcracker and tomorrow I’m bringing her to the city with me. EXCITING! Wearing new sweater by Toronto designer Valentine K today. I was gifted it just before Christmas and have been saving it for dinner tonight with my two other sisters (Steve’s daughters). It’s cashmere and leather and so divine. See on FB here. Will take some nice photos (aka with an actual camera) when I get home from shopping. Mum always cuts out articles from the local paper for me. This one was about a guy who started an art project ‘Talent next Door’ with city hall and now is working on second and third books. The articles are always about writing, youth entrepreneurship, local designers or art. All the things I love really. She’s got inspiring messages all over the house. There’s New Zealand and Maori stuff all over the house too. These photos are from the Maori reserve in Rotorua. I’ve been there. Anyone else? I miss New Zealand and my family heaps. Had coffee & fruit salad for breakfast today. I love pineapple but fresh always hurts my tongue. You can avoid this by washing it in salt water. Posted some cute things & style on my fashion blog today. Heading out to get some stuff with mama, she’s looking for a camera, I just wanna drive around! For comedic relief and up the minute adventure diary, follow me on Twitter. Have an awesome day!

i’m thankful today and every day thereafter

Happy Tuesday and welcome to a short week. Really good last couple days. Thanksgiving yesterday was the best. I’d say the trail hike by the river was my fav part (besides the food!). Mum & Steve put on the hugest dinner and it was so nice to have a massive group of family & friends together. Us kids had a great time 🙂 View “Giving thanks, Thanksgiving 2011 :)” on Storify Heaps planned this week. Action packed and lots of work on the go. Need to sort out my car details too. I can’t believe I won a car last week. CRAZY! Hope your day is off to a great start. Remember, you’re younger today than you will be again, make the most of it!

let the sun shine in.

We used to chill on the grass all the time when I was a kid. I love fresh cut grass. Was looking for a four leaf clover, those things are almost impossible to find. New Toms are rad & oh so cozy. Thanks Mum for the flowers. They’re all from her garden. People don’t really do that much here as compared to NZ I find. Nana could always pull together a boquet from her garden. Mum took a whole bunch to someone the day before too. I want that when I grow up, a beautiful garden. BTW Mum, the newspaper made my arm all black so when I got home I looked really skiddy. How cute is she?! Love you. Keri got to meet Mum first time. Think we might adopt her. It was so clear out across the Lake when I got home. I could see across to Rochester and it looked bright. So cool to see another country. Heaps of Kiters on the South side of the island. I tried it once. Camped on the beach too. Hope you have an awesome day!

In a world where you can be anything, be yourself.

Wowza, do I ever feel rested. It’s amazing what a vacation home to parents and heaps of sleep does for your soul & creativity. I’m ready to go back to the city today. Look at this cute face. Look again. My first recital at 5, I was a fluffy cloud. Keri is coming to visit Mum today and meet her for the first time. BFF meets Mama. I’m curious as to what she will say, usually people say we are quite alike. Mum is funny. He loves me. He loves me not. What does a flower know anyways? Heading back to the city later today. Caught up on emails & work while I’ve been home. So lovely. Ready to take on the world again! Tomorrow I’m going to Katy Perry! Woo hoo.

annoying department: excuse me for a minute

One of the most annoying things ever is when girls (any age) talk about you to other people. I’ve talked about it before and despite getting older, it never seems to go away. It is especially annoying when it is public, negative, the person has a high profile and they also don’t bother to say it to you directly. I was not Regina George in highschool and didn’t used to have the confidence I do now. I got bullied heaps growing up, mostly by mean girls. Today I got a message from a friend on my way home from the airport after six hours on airplanes and spending half the day before in an airport… “your tweets & blog post rant about parents with kids at airport is causing a shit storm with parents on fb” GREAT! Welcome home! First: Thank you for reading & linking to my blog Erica. I’m happy to have you as a reader. I’ve been a fan of yours since I was a kid. Circa 1991 here, lookin’ cute. We both worked at MuchMusic and I’ve often wondered if we would work on a project together. We both blog & Tweet in Toronto. We have many friends in common. I always though of you as cool with great style. Second: Why didn’t you comment/say ANYTHING TO ME? I know you’re not shy. Lots of options, Twitter, Facebook, Fan Page, blog , email? I am surprised you would single me out like that to your friends on Facebook without commenting as a mother yourself. I waited to see if you would say something to me since you were engaging your audience about my blog post. You didn’t. Your comment “what people without kids think of us who have kids” is a silly generalization about those who have kids and those who don’t. I…

#BahamaMama: Please Save Our Oceans From Plastic!

This post was written by my Mum while she was living on their boat in The Bahamas! Plastic, we all use it everyday but do we really think about where it goes when it lands in our rivers and oceans? To see mans intrusion of plastic clutter, washed up fishing nets and lost shoes on these beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Coast is very sad. We explored the Atlantic Ocean beach of Cambridge Cay which is part of The Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park, the first land and sea park in the world. The park covers 176 square miles beginning at Wax Cay Cut in the North and Stretching southward some 22 miles to Conch Cut and extending out approximately 4 nautical miles on either side of the cays. It is a no-take zone by both land and sea-nothing living or dead, can be removed from the park. The park can only be reached by boat. To have the opportunity to visit this park is amazing. Miss you, love Mum.

Guest post from my Bahama Mama

A few photos to enjoy. Deans Blue Hole opens opens up into a vast 4,000-foot-deep underwater cavern ranking it as the largest yet discovered in the world. The platform in the middle has two divers on it who practice free diving twice a day. The world record for free diving in the blue hole is held by a guy from New Zealand. Love to all xoxo Thanks for sharing Mum. It looks SO very beautiful. I wish I was there with you! How long is your hair now Mum? You look super cute as always. Miss you <3

down with the sickness: part two #throat

I could feel it coming on last night and should have done this before bed. It’s ok, one day of Mum’s remedies and I’ll be all better. Have a sore throat? Want it to GTFO of your life? Here’s watcha do. (Mum, GTFO = get the fuck out) Get some ground sage and 2 large mugs Boil the kettle Put sage in mug, pour water over Let sit until sage sinks to bottom and it cools down Strain tea into another mug leaving sage in mug 1 Make sure it’s not too hot Go gargle with it Repeat all day Feel better Mum had us do this as kids and because of it we hardly ever missed school (thanks Mum!). BTW Sage will also soothe hurting gums, cankers, irritated larynx and vocal cords. While you’re in the kitchen boiling that kettle, throw some fresh ginger in a mug and drink it. Down With the Sickness Part 1 is for common cold. It’s instructions on how to Thyme Bath your way to healthy. See that post right here!

flock of eagles

It really does not matter what you have, what you had, want, or what you own. You are whoever you want to be. How you perceive yourself has the biggest impact on how others perceive you, this is my belief and something I live. It was my dear mum that ingrained in me, “just because you don’t have money, doesn’t mean you can’t compete, you just have to be more creative”. Luckily for myself, I’ve always been rich in that department. The book in this post is one that I really, truly love and admire. It is written by Paul Arden one of the world’s top advertising guys who comes from a great career with Saatchi & Saatchi. This is not merely a ‘book‘, this is a bible for the creative, those driven to succeed who couldn’t even ever imagine what it’s like to ‘think inside the box‘. It has taught me tools to succeed in the world, to dream the unimaginable, to break the rules, and make my own path, leaving trails for others to follow. This book is about stretching the mind and thinking about where you want to be in the world. Do you want to be well known? The best in your field? Your country? Best in the world? Or best in the universe? You decide. I know where I want to be. Posted on September 26, 2008 Can’t Fly with the Eagles if You’re with the Seaguls – Mum

Down with the Sickness! How to Do a Thyme Bath

Today I woke up sniffly with sinus congestion feeling lethargic. Sadly, mama’s got a cold/flu. Tonight, before bed I’m gonna do a Thyme bath. It’s one of Mum’s herbal remedies. In my history, the one that has worked to cure a cold the very best. When you get sick, go buy some Thyme from the store like in the photo (I’m using two of these small dried bags). Get your biggest pot, fill it with water and boil the water/thyme. Now go run a bath, as hot as. The thyme will settle to the bottom of the big pot eventually. It will also smell nice in your house (Dad hated it, but I love!) Pour the water from the pot into the hot bath straining the little green thyme bits out. Get in the hot hot bath, sit there as long as you can before dying of heat. Then, get out dry off, dress warm, put on socks, hat, scarf and go to BED. Sleep. Wake up feeling better. Rinse and repeat again the next night if you’re not better (you can even use the same thyme/pot). Take Oil of oregano too. Thanks Mum for teaching me this trick. Works every time!

took candy and makeup and said don’t panic

This morning in the shower I was remembering something that happened a few years ago and feeling quite lucky. I’ll share with you now what I remember. Mum, if I mixed it up please tell me. I was about 12 years old and traveling home from New Zealand with Mum and Jenie. We had gone through all the checks and boarded the plane. I don’t remember the exact chain of events but it went something like this. We boarded and someone’s luggage boarded the plane but not the passenger. Airline, big problem. We all had to exit the plane and they had us wait in the waiting area. The plane had come from Iraq to Australia and was picking us up in New Zealand. At the time, Irag & Oz were having bad relations. Remember, I was only 12 when this happened so I know hardly anything about that part. The security guys were doing massive searches on ALL our luggage. They rummaged through everything taking out consumable products like gum, candy, lotions, makeup and tossed them in the garbage bin. I asked the security guard for piece of his gum. He gave me one, it was cinnamon. They searched my hair, bottom of my shoes, even behind my belt! Every passenger went though the same hands on search. We found out shortly after that there WAS a BOMB ON OUR PLANE. Yep, the one we just exited. The bomb squad was on board taking care of it as we waited and waited and waited. It was eight long hours in the airport before another plane arrived to take us back to North America. After 9/11 people really scared to fly, including me. However, I boarded my next flight knowing I already had a bomb on a plane once in…

bono sang me to sleep last night

The U2 concert was loud enough to hear distant vocals and the buzz of the crowd cheering from my bedroom. Took some pain medicine and passed out. It was only the second time the roof has been open for a concert ever. I taked to a guy the other day about the shape of the roof and how the sky done was built. He mentioned this really cool flat roof he was working on. I ove how rain sounds on a metal roof. The tower was lit up to match the show. Bet those were some pricey Concert Tickets to get. Some rad aerial photos from the show here. I finally got a good sleep and woke up in less pain than the day before. The future is bright! I read an interesting post today from Erin on the Sprouter blog. I’ve been getting emails and calls from friends not yet using this stuff saying “Casie, I need to set up Twitter/Blog stuff for my business. Help me, help me”. The thing is, just setting up a Twitter account or blog is not going to generate a presence online, save your brand or make you money. Social media is more than just being online, it really is about being social. You gotta put yourself out there (and stay out there) online AND offline to get the social media results you’re looking for. Like everything else, it takes work. I apologize on behalf of Kanye the Douche, he interrupted my site yesterday. Yours too? Urgh, that guy, SO annoying. I came in to the office to see Mum had sent me a email with a Health Warning. I assumed it was serious and then…oh Mum, so funny! p.s. Entertaining stuff on my Tumblr & Borderline Artistic blogs and my Twitter stream…

the process of changing apples to oranges

I wake up. Twist and scream. I think, why me? Sometimes live throws you curve balls. You can catch it. Pain, I can handle it. X-ray day today. Most people don’t like the doctor but it helps when he’s young and handsome like mine. I’m grateful for the friends/family who have been helping me. I’m thankful for Mum. I rung her so upset this morning and she saved the day. She made me feel better. Then I remembered it’s her birthday. I felt horrible. Finally did some laundry. I got flowers last night from the house where I fell. They’re beautiful. Getting read to go now. I can do this. It’s gonna be ok. Positive thinking. I just read over your Billie Jean King quote about achieving your dreams, Mum. The one in the frame. Thank you. I love you.

garage sale vintage steal

One time Jenie and I went out to a fashion party and we decided to wear these vintage dresses from the 1950’s. Mum snagged then at a garage sale. Probably from an old lady. It was awesome wearing them. We both felt so elegant while the other girls wore mall clothes. It was our debut and the first time they were out in over 20 years. We were a hit! Thanks Mum!
