Sheepdogs and Lights at Mod Club

Awesome time last night at the Festival Music House. Having it at The Mod Club is so much better for the music compared to last year’s event at Roosevelt Room. See all posts from last year’s event here. Lots of music industry peeps & execs were there. We caught Lights and The Sheepdogs.  Mum, next time there’s a Sheepdoggy show I am taking you. These good pix from are from RockIt on Flickr. I didn’t take my camera (again). Heard Lights just got engaged. Congrats sista. Remember that time she did a shout out to me and all my “internet amazingness“. Props to her for being so adorable. I think she’s great. I wore these down a$$ tiger tights Secret sent me. Rarrrrrrrr! For a girl who hardly ever wears pants, a shipment of tights like this really kick starts the winter wardrobe. This year for Fall/Winter they have lots of texture (light rib, cable rib), colour blocking and animal print. I practically screamed when I opened the package. THANK YOU SECRET! Sammy & I are heading back to Mod Cub for the final night of Festival Music House. If you see me, say hi!

Did you spot them jamming out in the background? Did you know that they’re Jason Collett’s backing band? Have you heard their amazing Genesis cover? Have I mentioned how excited I am already? I’m so excited. Happy weekend everyone! Enjoy! xo Kate

Weekend Tune: “Cheers (Drink To That)” by Rihanna

Sometimes we all just need a good pop song. Sometimes a pop song just does the trick. And this dear internet amigos, is one of those songs. RiRi just does it up right. She even samples some Avril Lavigne, and I’m going to be honest – I  am not the biggest Avril fan! But in this song? Yeah, I can dig it. Can I go on tour? This video makes me wanna go on tour. It just looks like the best kind of fun. Guess I’ll send out some roadie resumes. In the meantime? Let’s soak up those last bits of summer sun and fun. So cheers to the freakin’ weekend! And I’ll drink to that! xo Kate

While surfing in South Africa last night I came across We-Are-Awesome & Don’t Party followed by Liver Beats. Total radness, these cool kids got it going down. I like their taste in music, style and this video is great. I really want to go to South Africa. This one dude in the vid looks SO familiar. From NZ or Australia travels familiar, long time ago. Could be wrong. The We-Are-Awesome peeps are friends with Puma too. Remember when Puma Social rocked the Burroughs building in March. So fun. I forgot about the giant cop in the Smoke’s Poutine/Puma vid haha. We trained hard that night 😉 Puma Social released a new video:

Weekend Tune: “For Emma, Forever Ago” by Bon Iver

In honour of this windy warm weekend, here’s some Bon Iver to drift away to… Wouldn’t it be splendid to be walking around Paris and stumble into this? So lovely! New to Bon Iver? Well let me help. Here’s the Bon Iver breakdown. That handsome singer-songwriter fronting Bon Iver is Justin Vernon “For Emma, Forever Ago” is not only the name of the song above, but name of Bon Iver’s debut album from 2008 Most of the record was written over three months spent in a remote cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin – after a breakup! Recognize that voice? Kanye West sampled “Woods” for “Lost In This World” and got Justin Vernon to contributed vocals for his lasted release “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” Bon Iver’s second album (titled “Bon Iver”) comes out June 21st, but until then you can stream the entire new album here! I recommend you do so, alongside some tea and a cozy blanket during the next thunderstorm. Enjoy! xo Kate

music: first time at @TheDakotaTavern. yeah, really.

I don’t go to music stuff that much. Last night I went to the Dakota Tavern, do people call it Dakota Tav? Cause they do that down under and it seems cooler. [ Retracts hipster comment.] I love live music and crowds and spinning around on the dance floor or (even better) in the grass. I reckon I start going to more. So fun. Music was fun. Atmostphere & company funner. Sometimes I really wanna be in a band. Shiny disco balls. BE NICE OR LEAVE. Be nice, it’s so much fun. I used to live near this place on Dundas, by the 7-11. I was reminded of  The Red Wheelbarrow. so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. We had a chuckle that this kinda looks fun, not like “DYING” more like pushing. Time for a new diagram. This one is funny. I love poems. I have a passion for publishing poetry and allitertation. They were from the book of Gord. I can hear seagulls outside. Wasn’t that storm today wonderful, more than. I am trying to eat breakfast more. I hear that’s what healthy people do and I wanna be one. The colours match;  soft pink, orange, pretty. Glowing.

have you seen the YMCA commercial w/ kids singing to the tune of ‘lua’ bright eyes?

I was watching a movie on BRAVO and a YMCA commercial came on that caught my ear. It was a child singing a song to the tune of Lua by bright Eyes. This struck my attention because I really like that song and was very surprised to hear it associated with a child and the YMCA. If you’ve never heard it, listen for the first time. “Lua” is a single by Bright Eyes released in October 2004. Originally appearing on the album, I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning, the song deals with two people as they struggle through depression, addiction, and an interminable night.[1] Conor Oberst appears alone on the track, on vocals and acoustic guitar. First thing I did was google “lua bright eyes ymca commercial” and I found this tweet: Verse 4 & 5: You’re looking skinny like a model with your eyes all painted black You just keep going to the bathroom always say you’ll be right back Well it takes one to know one, kid, I think you’ve got it bad But what’s so easy in the evening, by the morning is such a drag. I’ve got a flask inside my pocket we can share it on the train If you promise to stay conscious I will try and do the same We might die from medication, but we sure killed all the pain But what was normal in the evening, by the morning seems insane. I mean, I like the song but for it to be associalted with the YMCA when the song is about drinking and late night ‘partying’ makes me go HMMMMMMMMMMMM. Amiright? Wonder if YMCA is aware of this? Perhaps is was done on purpose. In other news, my boy Tony Pierce in LA blogged the Puma Social video and is surprised at…

i am going to a ballet tomorrow night.

I used to do ballet. For ten years. Sometime I hated it but I always loved it. This is me last week after Raymi’s party. Dress if from this store. Look ma’ still got it. Kinda. Not top form, by any means. I was three years old when I started dance and stopped when I was 13. I did ballet, tap and jazz. I competed in NY and SC as well as across Ontario. Sometimes I was taken out of school for competitions and I wore blue eye shadow and red lipstick. I need to find our photos. I reckon they’re all at Mum’s. We have a FB group for our old studio Meyerhopher in Cambridge. Great studio and people there. It says this on the FB group: If it doesn’t kill you, it will only make you stronger. Or you will really feel it the next day. I am going to see  “Robert Lepage’s “Eonnagata” starring Sylvie Guillem with my friend who is a wonderful photographer. There is dancing and beautiful music and famed French ballerina  Sylphie Guellieium. This is her, such beauty. Looking quite forward to it. Midway between theatre and dance, Eonnagata pits the fan against the sword, the courtesan against the swordsman. But it also explores the embodying of one sex by the other in what is more an investigation of gender than of sexuality. The work draws on Onnagata, a Kabuki theatre technique that enables actors to represent women in a highly stylized fashion, shedding new light on the Chevalier d’Éon and revealing that his enigma is perhaps the mystery of human identity itself.

warhol’s portrait of gretzky, pretty fuckin’ sexy

During Toronto Film Fest last month I saw Hawksley Workman at the Festival Music House perform this tune from his new album and I love it. Been listening over and over. I’m feeling a little better today. If you’re feeling sick too, as I hear heaps of peeps are, try this Thyme Bath (instructions  in this post). It seriously works like a CHARM! I went to bed early last night and slept till 1pm today. I reckon I’m more tired from a whirlwind September than actually sicky-sick. Fingers crossed for speedy recovery. Quite missing Mum, we used to talk every day and now that she’s on her sailing adventure, we hardly talk anymore. Mum when you read this CALL ME. I LOVE YOU. Might go home to see Dad this weekend depending on how I’m feeling. I usually have a pretty fast bounce back from sickness. If I don’t get better soon I’ll be pretty annoyed + pissed off. Ok, that’s all for now. Time for more soup 🙂

he said ‘there’s this woman, she’s a hurricane’

Lets do this. Here we go. Remmeber my Guns on Plane story from the summer when I went to Boston? Read it here. Anyhooters, being calm and was careful not to pack an firearms this time. Go through customs and doing bag check and who’s line do I end up in? Oh yeah, same dude who caught me with the gun. He says ” I remember you? Any guns this time? Do I need to search your bag?” We laugh. I say no. He explains what happened and that the dude last time should really have given me back my gun, 38 special (metal necklace). Then some other dude says “they always hassle the pretty girls”, I giggle, I’m always hassled. I gave him my card and I hope he reads this. HI, NICE SECURITY AIRPORT MAN! Ran into Marcel next in the Molson Pub. Fancy that! He was on same flight to EL EH. The bartender took this artistic-fuzzy one. Cheers mate! Guess who likes to sleep on planes and had TWO empty seats beside them? This girl. Snoooooooozefest. One beer prior to boarding, then pizza then gravol then comatose then almost in LA. Quizno pepperoni + cheese za was quite good. What’s in my locket? Your heart. My heart. i love this poem by e.e. cummings. one of my fav’s: i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling) i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you…

i hope you don’t screw like you type.

This was meant to go up yesterday but my site was hacked! I had a mini heart attack but then my friend played doctor to my blog baby and now she’s out of emergency and recovering well. Thank jesus! Lovely walk to work this morning. Played in the park for a min. Got a coffee. Wore suede boots even though its raining, its so slight not enough for wellies. Getting really excited for Florida in two weeks. Came home last night and kinda wished I had a BF, that thought was gone when I woke up. Gonna do some zoeyng tonight. Have a shirt to make and a vest. Mum gave me heaps of pattern books from the early eighty’s and all that stuff is in style right now. Just ran into Daniel. He said ‘hi Magical’ I know he means it. That little minute meeting gave me a dose of inspiration and hazaaaa that resembles wheat grass. Pleasure seeing friends that are doing well and doing what they love at the same time. i was so inspired in fact that I kept typing and walked right past Timmy Ho’s. Good thing there’s at least three on my way. Blind Melon ‘No Rain’ is playing as I walk by Jack Astors on John Street. There is inspiration everywhere. There is inspiration everywhere! I love this song.
