Life | Domestic Success, A Sign!

I found what I thought was a passport on a ledge. When I turned it over the pages flew open to this page. It must be a sign I’m on the right track. Have been doing more domestic things lately and spending time at home. This weekend I made holiday shortbread. Sean had to take it to the office so we didn’t eat it all! It’s the little things that make all the difference. You have to be open to catch them with your eyes, or they will pass you by. ❤️ CASIE UPDATE: When I got some there was a DOUBLE RAINBOW! CottageLife | So Long Sweet Summer Home

I rolled down the window as soon as we got to cottage county this weekend, Toronto didn’t have snow yet and I wanted fresh air. It smelled like winter, crisp and clean. Closing the cottage is bittersweet, it looks so nice all covered in snow but we can’t stay. I wanted to. I imagined staying up for weeks, making fires, taking trips to town for groceries. Wearing jogging pants. There was more snow than I thought and it crunched with each step.  Tossed a few snowballs in the lake and watched them stay in little circles. The water is really, really, cold, small ponds alongside the road are freezing over. Picked up this blanket and mugs from the Target for TOMS collection. They were sold out of the poncho I wanted but I got Sean one of the chambray shirts. He has at least five that look similar but this one was nice. He’s totally one of those ‘Lumbersexuals’  everyone is talking about with a beard, who wears plaid and the Canadian tuxedo (denim on denim). Had to pour out our homemade beer and tried snow painting. No Picasso! Winter is a season I find inspiring.  I’m planning to lay low and hibernate the next few months. Working on something I hope to launch in April. In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer. Albert Camus For now, lights out at the cottage. The very last step of closing for the season. Until next time Muskoka, see you in the spring. <3 CASIE

Fashion | Gifts that Keep on Giving, TOMS for Target

Starting November 16th you can find a special collection by TOMS at Target stores across North America. The limited-edition collection is co-designed by TOMS founder and chief shoe giver, Blake Mycoskie and goes along with TOMS One for One® giving model where every purchase helps a person in need. Along withe the collection they also created this totally awesome ‘Together Sweater’ inspired by TOMS One for One. Naturall, I tried it on with all my fav people. I love togetherness. Sean has agreed to wear it to a ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater Party’ and I reckon it’s a contest winner! Sorry guys, the sweater ISN’T for sale. They’ve got items for for men, women, kids, and home and with this collection, Target is donating a blanket, meals or shoes in partnership with TOMS and North America-based charities American Red Cross Disaster Relief, Canadian Red Cross, Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. Each product displays the corresponding donations so you can easily see how your purchase is helping someone out. I’ve got a couple pairs of TOMS and have picked a few of my fav items from the Target collection below. Love this poncho and am hoping to score one bright and early tomorrow morning. Each purchase will give a blanket so someone in need. Sean’s fav outfit is chambray shirts and jeans, aka the Canadian tuxedo. The plan is to pick one of these up for him and by doing that, TOMS will provide one week of meals through one of their selected charities. The kids clothes are especially cute and by picking something up for your fav lil’ shorty you’re doing some good.  This t-shirt gives 1 week of meals and the hoodie 1 blanket. The housewares items are all under $30 and make great gifts. I’m a fan of these little journals. Nothing like afresh new…

Lifestyle | Interstellar IMAX, Korean Karaoke, Stew

Found these glasses while I was cleaning up this weekend. They’re House of Harlow by Nicole Richie and I can’t believe I forgot about them. DOH! It’s amazing what you find when you dig through clothes mountain and put your stuff away. On Friday Sean and I went to see Interstellar in IMAX. I liked it. I didn’t know anything about the movie except it had something to do with space. I like seeing things in IMAX but this movie made me a little bit dizzy at times they were spinning around in the station. Matthew McConaughey was great and I don’t know why people hate on Anne Hathaway but I think she’s great too. I deff had space dreams/nightmares that night.  I hope to go to space one day. On Saturday we joined Lozzie and crew for for Karaoke in Little Korea and IT WAS SO AWESOME. I’d never been to one of those karaoke places where you get a room to yourself to sing your hearts out. I can’t even begin to tell you all the songs I sung. Sean loves it too. Despite just meeting the birthday girl that night we really helped out by being the entertainment! I’ve been thinking about why I started blogging heaps lately and it was all in an attempt to keep more memories, documenting people, places, things, and thoughts. I’ve also been thinking about how much blogs have changed over the years. Have you noticed a change? Is anyone even reading this? You know so much about me and I don’t know anything about you. Is that strange? I don’t know! Anyhoo, here’s to a great week. <3 CASIE

Events | #NHLFaceOff w/ Hershey Canada

Last week I hung out with Hershey Canada to kick off hockey season at NHL FaceOff in Dundas Square. Being Canadian it’s my blood to like hockey! I usually get to at least one game per season and we finally got the HD hooked up so we can watch in style at home. The day long event shut down Yonge Street and filled Dundas Square with hockey fans. I was blown away by just how MASSIVE the event was! It’s always fun to see Dundas Square transform, there was a massive stage on Yonge Street and the Tragically Hip were scheduled to play just before the puck dropped. Hershey Canada was sampling their new Oh Henry! Big Crunch which is a twist on the original (my fav chocolate bar since I was a kid) and a layer of cookie crunch. TBH I ate like 3 that day they were so freaking good! Fans were lined up all day to take a ‘shot’ at the Oh Henry! Big Crunch Hardest Shot Challenge. The top scorers had their names posted on the winners board all day. I put my GoPro in the net and was gave it a shot and although I didn’t make the score board I managed to hit the camera RIGHT after I said “I won’t hit it’. Camera was ok! Everyone who took part was rewarded with an Oh Henry! Big Crunch loaded with peanuts, caramel, fudge, and chocolate. In addition to all the sampling, Oh Henry! Canada is donating $50,000 to Food Banks Canada and they want to give YOU an NHL experience of a lifetime. For details on how you can STICK IT TO HUNGER and win, visit them at facebook.com/OhHenryCanada or click the image below. Sean and I took Embot to see the Tragically Hip after school and it felt REALLY Canadian. Sadly the…

Feeling Very Thankful. #ThankFALL

We had Thanksgiving up at the cottage this year and it was so great! We headed up north on Friday to spend time with Sean’s parents and family. I planned to do some work around the house on Monday but instead I slept in, relaxed, and watched Netflix. It was a holiday! Fall is a time of year we give thanks and think about what we’re grateful for. Target contacted a bunch of Canadian bloggers and asked us to share what we’re thankFALL for. Scroll down for a few of my favourite things and a chance to win a $250 gift card from Target Canada. FAMILY Sending love and hugs through the internet to my whole fam. So happy to be able to hug them or pick up the phone and give them a ring anytime. I recently went home to see my parents so I didn’t make the trek to KW this weekend but I’ll be back home to see them again soon. Much love to all my sisters and quite thankful for Facebook so I can see all my Kiwi cuzzies in New Zealand. Yay Internet! FRIENDS Lucky to have great friends around me! These are old photos of Lauren, Carly, Raymi, and Keri, our OG blog crew. We’ve had some rad times over the years! THE INTERNET I am extremely thankful for the Internet. It’s enhanced my life in SO many ways, I can’t imagine a world without it. We probably wouldn’t even know each other! I’m really happy that I’ve used the internet to document my life over the last 10 years. Hard to believe it’s been so freakin’ long!   MY LOVE Sean, this one’s for you baby! So thankful to have a wonderful boyfriend who is also my best friend. We love travelling, spending time at the cottage, or just sittin’ around watching Netflix. I…

CottageLife | A Boy And A Girl In A Little Canoe

Back to the grind today after an absolutely wonderful weekend up at the cottage. Sean and I went for a nice long canoe jaunt yesterday in the sunshine. How lucky are we to have this weather!? You can like this photo on Instagram right here. We attempted to go through this tunnel to another lake where our friends cottage is. It was like being inside a beautiful painting. The colours of the leaves are so vibrant and the sky was incredibly blue. We were ill prepared to portage the canoe over this little blunder. Next time I’ll wear better shoes and put my phone in something more secure than a ziplock bag. Did you know you can still use your phone while it’s in a ziplock? The more you know. Learned that trick in Thailand last year. I finally got to float in my donut. The water was pretty cold but I really didn’t care! Went on a crazy fast seadoo. Heaps of fun! MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, MY FAV. This week is gonna be a busy! Tonight my sister and I have a date for the premiere of Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck. I’m hosting a Twitter chat with Hotels.com X Nine West tomorrow then speaking to fashion students at Seneca College. Thursday I fly to Montreal for a couple days exploring culinary awesomeness with Tourism Montreal. It will be the weekend again before we know it! Happy Monday, make sure you soak up some of that sunshine!  <3 CASIE

Tech | Muse Headband + Google Cardboard

Last week I got to try out Google Cardboard. It’s a small Oculus-like box that attaches to your Android phone where you can experience virtual reality games etc. I went on a roller coaster ride and it was pretty trippy. You hold up the box to your eyes then move as if you are on a coaster, I nearly fell over! 1188 Films (Sean’s company) has been working on some pretty rad VR stuff for Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard. I ca’t wait to see what they come up with next. My love for technology knows no bounds. I volunteer to test out everything! I was trying out the Body Mind Change + David Cronenberg Oculus Rift experience and did not know what was going to happen… then, a monster popped out and I totally jumped and screamed. The office at 1188 roared with laugher at me. HAHA GUYS VERY FUNNY. My other latest technology toy is the Muse brain Sensing Headband. It’s been a neat journey so far trying to make myself relax. I may seem like a care-free, fun loving person, but TBH I can be really uptight sometimes! This is a snapshot of my (lack of) calmness last week on Monday right in the middle of TIFF. The second photo is Friday afternoon, post TIFF. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I’m going to test out my cottage calmness this weekend. You unlock different milestones the more calm you are. I’m going for a SERENITY NOW mentality. After I did a session on Friday last week I took the streetcar. A man across the car was playing his music loud, like NO HEADPHONES loud. The driver even yelled for the person playing the music to turn it down. It took every ounce of my patience to hold it together, it is so frustrating…

#TIFF14 Bang Bang Baby Premiere

On Monday night I joined Sean for the premiere of Bang Bang Baby.  The feature debut film is directed by Canadian Jeffrey St. Jules. It’s a surreal, fever-dream fusion of small-town musical and 1950s sci-fi. The event was at Spice Route on King West. Thanks EXPRESS for this shirt + pants I paired w/ my fav Rudsak leather jacket and clutch from Banana Republic. Sean (Visual Effects producer) posing w/ Bang Bang Baby producer Don Allen. Fun night but going on on a Monday sure takes it’s toll! Here’s to a couple more days of TIFF then R&R at the cottage. In other news, how much do you love these? Blue suede boots from Shelly’s London X NastyGal. I got dinged on customs, $60 but I caved and picked them up from the postie anyways. LOVE. <3 CASIE
