“in the least creepiest way… i am most positive i saw you at sneaky dees tonight ahah”

always on her phone this one i’m planning to do something special for you with darren’s salon because i am nice and i want you to feel happy. we’re sorting out all the deets but you will know about it when we’re done. i’ll give you a clue, it involves you getting your hair did and someone not paying for it. yay! remember i was telling you about darren being in toronto life’s shopping issue recently? well, guess what? he’s in there again in the bridal issue. great skills. if you are waiting for colour to change it is a bad idea to go outside. you have to keep your head warm, like this kinda. this is my fav part, the shave. stitching came undone on on of my boots. think i can return them? i got them at the docs store last summer. i tweeted about the warranty and someone asked if i got them on the 1990’s. NO, they are new. very funny. haha ok hair done. off to kensington for a friends comedy show that i ended up missing. probably because i stopped to play here.  i am canadian ex. 1 ice rink. this is my fav vintage shop in the city, apt. 909 on dundas. i hardly share anything about it because i want to keep you away so i can get all the goodies for myself. no really though. oh hai again sneaky dee’s. somebody was here… my hair has a mind of it’s own and that mind likes to PAR-TAY. look at these studs, we’ve been friends for over ten years, coming up on 15 soon i reckon. bachelor 1 luke, bachelor 2 chris, both eligible entrepreneurs. they are getting hotter with age. if you wanna date them lemme know 😉 i’m not a fan of…

coldest day of the year right here. no fear!

hello friends. today in between doing things i have to do i decided to brave the cold and see just how rotten it was. played around a little. well, la-di-da! side note: LOVE this movie if you go outside remember to wear sun glasses. the winter sun is just as bad for you and nothing burns the retina like snow blind. if you are gonig walking you really should wear sunscreen too. (i know you will like that i am noting this mum, i’m sure you’re rocking the 50 down in the bahamas! miss you) i’ve made a promise to myself that i am NOT going to get the winter blues. there are waaaaaay to many things to be excited about and look forward to; making summer dresses, working on my summer beach body, writing compelling stories, taking beautiful photos, the way the sun shines on the snow, fresh cool air, staying inside and watching movies, planning events…the list goes on. warmest most favourite winter boots ever, Moovboot Siberian huskies. hello city i love so much. oh you, tower! this is the same spot rannie shot me for his 140 characters project. remember this photo? ahhh, summer… that dress is from united colours of benetton when i was about eight years old. growing is for suckers, haha. RIP those glasses though 🙁 the lake looks nice today, nice and freezing cold, nice and glittery in the sunshine. remember, the cup is half full in ths department. i fired that bitch girl debby downer, restraining order. i wonder if i will ever get married? if i do i want a hungi and a haka, old cars and vintage. not that i’ve thought about it much but i love style and this photo is really cute.  there are lots of cute photos…

OH “you don’t wanna party in a sari” #smirnoffXchange

OH is ‘overheard on Twitter if you don’t know by now @itsbrownbarbie is my charming and oh so stylish roommate Sabrina. #smirnoffXchange is the hashtag for tonight Tonight’s Smirnoff  party is a ‘Nightlife Exchange’ with India. I wrote about it in the ‘hey, wanna go to a party?‘ ticket giveaway post about a week ago. We were chatting about what to wear and if we should India theme our outfits and Brown Barbie said “you don’t wanna party in a sari”. She looks so cute dressed like this, much different than her usual Barbie style. There’s a couple reasons, the fancy material she has on below is highly flammable and all that fabric could cause a party foul and easily get ruined. Just think, heaps of fabric, high heels, copious amounts of alcohol, sounds like trouble to me. I’m wearing a vintage kaftan that was Mum’s from the 1970’s. She shortened it back then and I’ve tailored it a little to fit me just perfect. Love wearing Mum’s old stuff cause when I blog it she pops in to check and is happily surprised. The place we are going is called Munition Factory and the Smirnoff crew started setting up early this week. Pretty stoked to show you photos of it all tomorrow. BTW posting a contest in the AM that involves food, beer and YOU. You know where to get the daily awesome, right here! Have a great night! ♥ CASIE

she looks old and rusty but she’s a real beaut

yesterday i biked to the meetings i had. it was sunny and warm and i didn’t even have to wear a jacket! it’s the end of october, that is fascinating… well, because it makes me think about global warming and how it used to be cold by now but on the other hand it is totally freaking awesome. today i am telling you about my stuff… bike: raymi the minx, vintage > i need to fix the alignment. wanna help? jeans: shop girl gallery boutique, yoga jeans > these guys are so comfy. remember when i NEVER wore jeans at all, yeah, well that has changed now that i have these. rest time at the fake beach by the lake. nice to get feet in the sand and look out across the water with sun on your face. was quite beautful. sweater: marks, SOFT edge to edge cardigan > very soft and long, i like to wear it on the plane because it works like a snuggie but fits in your carry on purse. it also covers up your whole outfit and shows only the legs so you feel skinny and never ugly. i was walking back to bike when camera shot here. needed to take off sweater cause it was so warm out. btw it is also quite warm, the sweater, snuggly really. washes up nice and soft, ok in dryer too. mum and sister, you would both love this. tank: holt renfrew, bamjamz > made from bamboo and really really comfy, breathes nice, actually for sleeping/yoga…bike riding i guess too. that’s exercise. it has a panda on it. not a sad panda, a happy panda i like to think. hat: some vintage shop @ st. kevins arcade, ponsonby, nz. got it that day i went shopping with a…

riveting talks by remarkable people…like me.

Ok so I’m not speaking at TedxTO today but I have been chosen as part of the select group to attend. You can catch the LIVE STREAM here. Naturally, I’m dressed cute as a button in a vintage 1960’s dress from a small shop in St. Kevin’s Arcade on K-Road in Auckland. I’ll be blogging (hopefully) a bit during the day and letting you know what smart things I’m learning and listening to. I need to get that infinity tattoo redone asap. Pretty to see lots of friends there today who I’ve not seen in a while. Oh, guess what else I did this morning? I went to the gym and ran 2k. I’ve been thinking I should really get off my ass and be more active and I thought about it so much that it got me out of bed and all the way downstairs to the gym. I’m proud of myself. The last time I went, was about a year ago I reckon. Peace out for now peeps. Mama needs a coffee! See you on the internet. Follow my Tweets for pix & commentary of the day!

When you’re lonely, I’ll be lonely too.

And this is The Fame.

I read a really good article by Alexandra Samuel called “Lady Gaga and the transcendent narcissism of social media“. I love her. You know that. She inspires me so much. I stuck to plan and cleaned rearranced my whole room. It’s lovely outside and I could go to the pool but I am to antsy to relax. I wanna do stuff. Once my room is cleaned I can pull out the sketch book and get on the projects. I love being creative and having designs that no one else has, it makes me feel totally unique. I’ve also been looking at machine embroidery designs and seeing how I can create some of my own designs to put onto clothes I already have to personalise them. Being crafty is great. I would love to wear some Canadian designers when I go to New Zealand for FW. I’m not about to go out and buy a heap but if someone out there is it interested email me. Otherwise, I’ll be decked in my own line. I was putting myself through Uni when I lived in Australia so I didn’t have much money. I needed to work in order to make it through the end of the year. I got called Cas and my BFF there was Cheryl aka Shazza. I made a clothing brand called Cas&Shazz. It looked kinda like this CAS+SHAZZ. I wrote it on couple shirts and made it on this neat sweater. I wanted a logo you could recoginize from far away, like Nike. My idea was ‘an ass you can recognize’. I used to write CASIE on stuff all the time. I remember meeting lots of cool people that made clothes too. I ‘ve always have had a thing for that. This seems so long ago, when I…

i love this city.

Rannie took this beautiful photo from our balcony before out shoot yesterday. We took photos for the Vitamin Water Canada blog and in his 140 project. Stay tuned for that. Good day yesterday mostly around the house working on a couple upcoming projects. Went for an evening stroll with Sabrina to Bellwoods and visited a friends roof patio for some wine and sunset. Stopped by CTS on the way, my fav shop. They had a bunch of items that were $1 and I picked up a couple vintage dresses I can totally do a Pretty in Pink switch to. I’m giving Zoey (my sewing machine) a workout this winter. Heading to the Fairlie Agency for a little co-working woith Carly-Anne today. Haircut at 4 with Darren, think I’m gonna buzz it one last time for summer. Dinner with Jeremy and some friends tonight, we finally all get to meet his crush. Loser karaoke after that but I’m gonna have to call it an early night. I still haven’t packed for Bud Camp  and we leave at 7am. Check out this vid I make a cameo in by My City Lives. I’ve been in a few of their videos one on the red carpet and one about genYTO. Check out their site to see more stuff about our wonderful city and some other cool peeps talking about it. Gotta run. Lots of work to do. See ya on the internet loves!

annual trinity bellwoods garage sale = great finds

The park is a hub for hipsters, style and creativity and it all rolls out of peoples closets for this sale each year. It’s my fav one to attend and I didn’t know it was on until a impromptu conversation after my lovely brekky at Niche. I picked up this awesome vintage purse from Brazil. All leather and so similar to one that Mum has (Jenie has it at the moment). I was a super hipster and grabbed a Vice mag from American Apparel on my way h0me. Got this sweet little collar and old gloves. They look so elegant! There’s a cool art installation in the park for Luminato right now. Crazy boat thingy you walk through with all these clinitygy-clangity sounds. This is a really crazy week.  It’s NXNEi, MMVA lead in to Sunday, hair appt tomo with Darren, lots of posts to write and heaps to get done. I know I can do it.  I have faith in myself. Good thing I spend so many years partying, staying up late, drinking and working hard…work hard play hard has been good training for this week. Ha! Happy Monday! Love you xo

Imaginary Like a Unicorn

I found these glasses the other day, they’re mine from years ago. Popped the sunnies part out so they’re just frames now. Better for pictures than real life. Glasses are fun. I have so many in my collection! Have been collecting since those amazing neon Harvey’s glasses in the 80’s. My drawer of frames is constantly rotating, new ones, broken, traded, vintage, lens free.  I’ve had so many hairstyles/colours over the years, pink, purple, blue, red, brown, black. Haven’t had a rainbow yet, maybe this summer? I love changing my look, short hair is the best.  This is one of my favourite pictures,  I love it for the colours the unicorn puking a rainbow. A glorious thing really. I’ve fantasized about having a tattoo like it. I wear this special pin on my jacket most the time, a rainbow a unicorn and star. I always say it represents my life. A joke, but kinda serious… Rainbow: rain, sunshine, bright, special, happy, love, better when shared, spectrum, angles, reflection. Unicorn: unreal, imaginary, strong, flying… read so much unicorn crap in the Wiki. Star:  shines, goals, the sky, dreams and stuff Ooh, I saw this today and omgaga reeeeallly want an iPad. Universe, can you hear me? I believe in you! GAWD, it looks nice, Tweetdeck on ipad. Just imagine… I’ve never known a better reason to get a mac. I wasn’t turned by iPhone but this baby makes a little kitten purrrrr. Meow!

naked people have little or no influence on society

Feeling the spring fever. It’s lovely walking to work in the brightness. Great way to start the day. Ramping up stuff for the magazine at work. Toronto Blog Girl stuff is picking up speed. My Harajuku Girls are coming by Friday learn about blogging. What they don’t know yet is that I’m putting them to WORK. Fairy Blog Mother. Today I am wearing a dress from Shop My Clothes that’s by a Japanese designer. I love the print heaps, very springy. It was really long so I chopped it and used the excess fabric to make a circle scarf. Black Betsy Johnson tights from Winners. Gold boots were black leather from Vintage 69. I spray painted them gold. Andy Warhol used to do that. Trench, cardigan, & heart locket are from H&M. Bag was a gift  Calvin Klein. THANKS! I’m a judge in this FAB contest from Peach Beserk. It’s only open to elementary, high school and college/university students but the prizes are AWESOME. So if you can enter, DO IT. Clothes make the man. TGIF: 2010 First Week Edition

This is me at work today & rocking my favorite sweater, that yes, is my own vintage circa 1988. Twitter Over the holidays I had a bunch of messages from people sounding like “Teach me about Twitter”. This made me happy. Jeff even said ‘I think I’m gonna Tweet” and my heart melted. I’m doing classes on using Twitter for Personal & Business just let me know if you’re interested, you know how to find me. I’m booking Saturday & Sunday sessions starting February. Google All week I’ve been exploring stats and facts about social media. I educated my team about using Google alerts and Google Blog search. Both are really awesome for keeping tabs on your personal brand or business and really hearing what people are saying. Internet I’ve answered like a zillion questions people have been asking me on formspring. I really like it. I realized more and more how the internet is changing thanks to social media. We are all becoming more connected. This image breaks it down pretty damn good [click to view larger]: Facebook I went back to using FB connect & Disqus on my blog this week (feel free to comment and test it out!) The thing is, people always comment on FB but that doesn’t show up on the blog. I’d rather people commented on the blog and published the comment in their FB newsfeed. Get it? This year, I hope comments on FB & blog will show up both places this year so everyone can join the conversation. Happy Friday. Have a wonderful day!

a sense of community, it feels like home

Lovely to wake up the the sound of nothing but Dad in the kitchen upstairs. No streetcar, highway, train or traffic. We headed out for brekky stopping at garage sales along the way. Dad picked me up in the hot rod last night. I saw everyone on the bus looking at the car and I loved it. How much would you offer for these tracks? He’s there tomorrow so I might go back. My favorite thing to do is at home is pop by the vintage boutiques. I have my favorites and never leave them empty handed. I got four pairs of shoes, three hats and a couple other jems. I picked up a vintage suitcase to bring them all in too. Sabrina said not to bring home a bunch of crap but I’m gonna get rid of some old clothes this time. Seriously, like before next weekend. Move in two weeks. Bonga’s band was playing at the Preston Music Festival so Mum and I walked over to Central Park.  Gresat music, gonna go back later. Some local friends brought their Mum’s too, it was cute. Insert joke: “Everybody and their Mom is here” haha. I was lucky that Mum, Dad and Dad’s GF were all there. Ya family! It’s wonderful to be home. I was daydreaming of moving from the city, back here. It’s so calm and peaceful. I’ve seen familiar faces all day.  Ran into my fav teacher Mrs. Bennett. I think I can call her Sandra now that i’m 27. I’ve taken in so many little things today I could write for hours. All things I don’t want to forget. Awesome. Have a great night friends. It’s beautiful out ♥

you can’t rain on my parade

Good Morning! I feel like I could be a radio show today. I am happy to be at work. It’s a beautiful day might even thunderstorm later. The ride in is what I have been missing for the past two weeks. Breaks fixed. Wore my helmet and felt good about it. Smarter, like it keeps my thoughts all bunched up close together and in a jumble and now I sit here and they all flow out like waterfalls fast how I like them to.  Held my nose past the slaughterhouse, stinks bad man. Gross. NO strikers anymore. Good thing. Saw a soda pop  van covered in astro-turf grass. Breakfast Television has lost my interest but I like the news and weather of CP24. Hot today still humid. Thunderstorm would be nice. I like to ride through the puddles. Dad’s got a sewing machine for me and I’ve got heaps of fabric and vintage patterns at home. Really excited. Twestival Local is coming up September 12th 2009, mark your calendar. In Twestival Global raised over $250,000.00 for charity: water. It was really fun. Twitter has grown so much since February. I hope it rains when I bike home.

a little walk down memory lane

didn’t bike today. drove in with sabrina. feel really bad about having no helmet. as if today will be the day i get in an accident because i know i need a helmet and i told the internet i’m getting one. i’ll get one after work. feeling hungry and tired. i wonder what catering will bring for lunch? something good i hope. my youngest stewart cousin is six month pregnant. seems like that’s what all my kiwi cousins do as soon as they get close to twenty, marry & make babies. i guess having family around makes a big difference. i’ve grown up without having aunts, uncles, cousins and stuff around. i have to look out for myself. i never went to an ontario private school like some other kids i know. not saying that mum and dad aren’t there because they are, but after them, it’s the friends i call family. friends are good family, you get to pick them. i’m gonna get a pedicure at lunch today. it’s been a while and i just wanna relax. i wore a sweater today that i got in niagara falls, NY when i was about 10. we went with the burchells for a dance competition. showstopper – american dance championships. i got it at united colours of benetton, it has a nautical theme. i’ve always loved it and it still fits so i’m keeping it forever now. i do that with clothes. it’s not just a sweater, or skirt…it’s a memory of where and when i got it and how it makes me feel. i get attached to my clothes and that’s why i keep them, i donate and give away some, but most of them stay.  i’ll be a hundred with the most massive collection, when I think about that…

art hives: Saturday in Kensi with Charlietron

We went into “This Ain’t the Rosedale” to check out some books. I got 2 really creative mini ones that fit great in the purse. I love those little ones. Trying on fancy hats is always one of my favorite things to do, along with trying on stuff and taking my picture in it. I went to Bungalow and as I was leaving but then found this totally rad dress that was black with RED LEATHER! I knew it must be tried on, by me. Obviously. I went to the Cameron House and the bathroom stall I went into your DJ Scootz in it from 2007. Rad! Charlie and I read books there and listened to some live music. He tried on my glasses and put his book upside down for the pic by accident. I think it looks intellectual. I dug for some scarves to find jems. Got hooked up these. Those vintage babies were only a buck a piece. God I love that, I make it look a million bux! All & all, I haven’t had a Saturday afternoon in Kensi like that for a couple weeks and it was lovely.

fond, found, fortune, fashion, focus

I’m wearing a mum outfit today. Her old belt that still smells like New Zealand and a shortened Dashiki that matches my orange vintage boots. Tomorrow is going to warm but today its so windy and cold. I think I’m going to write on my way in more often. I lost my computer and ipod so now I use what I got, my device and thoughts and spend less time on the actual computer. I’m inspired in the morning, except for sporadic days when I am not. I usually wake up with a smile. Damn its cold. This morning I woke up to a message from a friend that said he’s in London England and the style there reminds him of me. I think that’s the nicest thing ever. I’ve never been to London but I know about style there. I can’t type as fast as thoughts fly, I can barely talk that fast and when I do its funny and I sound like a nut. I missed a call from a magazine editor last night. I wonder what he wants? H has the closing party for his art show tonight and I’m also planning to chat with Poster Boy. I’m going to make some. Cut and paste was one of my most favorite things to do at the kitchen table when I was younger. It still is along with writing. I wrote a poetry book in 1996 called Jeans. It’s not on Amazon because its out of print, its time for a new book. We started our publishing company without Internet and did it old the fashion way. We learned a lot. Its seems so easy now. I forgot my sunnies, the vintage ones from France. They would have matched perfect. As I take off my jacket I forget…

sharing the randomness – 25 casie facts

This has been floating around Facebook since January. I figured since I’ve been tagged by a ton of friends it is about time I shared 25 random facts about me. The rules go as follows: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. Blah, blah, blah… Here we go: I was born in Canada to New Zealand parents and have dual citizenship (Canadian/New Zealand). I danced ballet, tap and jazz as a kid and completed in competitions across Ontario as well as Showstopper in NY & Myrtle Beach, SC. I was 5 with fake lashes and red lipstick! I wrote a book and became a published Canadian Author at 14. It was titled Jeans: An Anthology of Poetry and Prose. The Toronto Star wrote and article about me titled “Push Over Keats, Teen Muse Steps Ahead“. I went to Uni in Australia and lived at Bondi Beach. It was the best year because I learned the most about myself and WHO I really am. I hate scary movies. I get queezy and I don’t like to put bad images in my head. I’m crazy enough already! I still have all my Barbies and their vintage outfits. I hope to get them made in my size one day. I have a Green Belt in Tae Know Do and once knocked out a boy (Note: James Roszell) in grade 8 at school. Mum thought I’d get in trouble but I said “Mum, do you think he’s gonna tell anyone?“ I hate the number three. I don’t do anything in threes. I grew up around vintage cars and vintage clothes. My Dad…

we are moving particles of matter

vintage series: written by me on may 17, 2007 “Internet stalking? Who is really stalking who? Me sitting here on my computer. You would know by looking online that I have been ‘Facebooking’ for about the last hour or so. Chatting, writing notes, tagging friends in photos, and checking my events and sh** like that. At work, when I log on in the morning, scripts run, and documents are recorded with times, dates, locations, ISP’s, with IBM’s all over the place. I recall 1984, the classic by George Orwell. I remember the book vaguely, which I may even recite by memory. I think I read only the ‘Coles Notes’ and still have the hardcover at Mums’ house from the local public library circa 1998. In a recent discussion, I came to the conclusion that anyone…government, organizations, the Internet, anyone could be stalking me right now. In the world I live in, I am run by the Internet and my computer. I rely on them for knowledge, weather, news, fashion, gossip, history, travel, alerts and everything else that I don’t know yet but Google does, and, I’ll tell you in a minute. I start to think further about the potential of this awareness of what I am actually doing, all the time. The boys start talking as I come up with an idea. Imagine the government infused our blood with a specific DNA that is able to be seen and or tracked due to its scientific makeup. What a scary thought. You could see what we are moving particles of matter.”

City Girl Defines Her Style: Jennifer Herd

Jennifer Herd, a talented artist I know has created this awesome pic ‘City girl”. Her artwork has been entered in the Sony VAIO Contest to be one of the new laptop skins to be manufactured & sold across Canada. I am asking for your help to get her design into the Top 10. It is very simple! Click the photo to follow the link & hit ‘vote for this design’. You can vote every 24 hours. It would be a dream come true for the artist to have her design manufactured by Sony. I’m excited to help make her wish a reality! To check out more of Jennifer’s artwork visit her blog. A little bit about Jennifer: 1. Whats your dream job? – Illustrator for a trendy Toronto animation company 2. What’s your favourite type of music? – Gotta have my blues rock! Oh yeah! 3.
