Step Out of Your Comfort Zone, Find Magic

Been loving my walk to work the last week. It’s great to be in a creative office surrounded by art and internet.  Our building is about 10 minutes from my door, major score! Greeted by this sign when I walk in. There’a all kinds of creative, vintagey things around here. Will give you a tour one of these days. I did not wear the right shoes for snow! Doh. Shoudl really know better. Yesterday I took my mentee to the AGO for his first visit and to see the Guggenheim exhibit. We walked around and talked about her future eventually coming up with a plan and some actionable items. Vanessa Grillone won the HTC One contest earlier this year and part of the prize was mentorship from me. See her post about winning here and a guest post on my blog here. I absolutely love the AGo and have been a member for a few years. It’s an amazing place to go and get inspired. Many times I’ve just walked through for 15 minutes and stopped to visit a few favourites. I never miss Andy Warhol or walking through Gallery Italia (above). Saw this art on my way to work today. Made this before I left the house 🙂 One of the things I chatted Vanessa about yesterday was stepping out of your comfort zone. That’s where the magic happens guys. This is an excellent time of year to reflect on the year passed and think about where you want to be this time next year. Holy cow. Remember when I said it would be a miracle to make it though the day, welllllll…. GoDaddy had a server issued this morning which affected casiestewart.com crashing my site so for just over and hour. Minor heart attachhhhh. My sisters phone is not charging so I thought she totally ditched us for the Coral Shoot. My printer ran out of ink. I had to take a bus because of Spadina construction, A BUS. I made it to Yorkville only 15 min late and have a super cute outfit. My sister was there waiting with Shannon (producer) and I had that portable Bookstone charger for her phone. It all worked out ok. I even made it home for Young & The Restless before Fashion’s Night Out. Anxiety level now at a manageable level. Shirt was brought over today by Beaucoup Fashion House, shorts & collar H&M, belt vintage, shoes Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s. What doesn’t kill you makes you sweaty and stressed stronger! This is a full on busy week for film and fashion in Toronto. My fav things! Thursday night Toronto joins the world in celebrating Fashion’s Night Out and kicks off Toronto International Film Fest.. There are Fashion’s Night Out events ALL OVER the city, in fact, it’s famous for it, making it one of the most desirable places to live. Hi, hi! Had a nice coffee on the patio in the sunshine. Got this cute heart shirt from Winners last night and it ripped already. Problem with all the sheer is it is so delicate. Head scarf was a vintage gift.  I’m doing a presentation at an ad agency about creative blogging this afternoon. Fun! I love going into new offices and throwing energy all over the place. Huzzahhhhhh! Beerfest 2011 – Breakfast Beer from 1188 on Vimeo. This weekend is Beerfest! Stoked to get beer’d with a bunch of babes, boys, bands, and friends. This video was shot by 1188 last year for the fest featuring Hipster Ryan from the office. I was informed yesterday that my daily blog email wasn’t coming anymore! Sorry If you have been missing it! Turns out NXNE had me listed three times for a badge so this combo pass gives me full NXNE Media, Interactive and access to the Speakers lounge during the festival. Check your conference bags for a gift card from 3F and you can get some sweet colours in denim too. I’m on a BOD for the shop and there are HEAPS of nice things in there at the moment. I was asked ‘what is the store like?’. 3F brand comes from a hign end textile company that works with Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, so the clothes are great fabrics, really well made but not high price. They have clothes for men and women. Store is at YD Square near movie theatre entrance.   SO MANY BANDS PLAYING. I can’t handle it. I wanna go to everything. Been loving a couple online shops lately. I don’t buy as much in real life as I do in my dreams but I like the ideas they give  me to spice up my existing wardrobe.  This image is from the Wanelo email. Wanelo is “a way to find unique products and stores you have never heard of.” I’ve been drooling a bit, figured I should share! I hate the emails from Nasty Gal, they read my mind and know exactly what I want/am wearing. The ads follow me around online, taunting me with things they know I want. JERKS! These emails are what made me cave and buy a few pairs of Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Everything they send out is so nice and they have a monthly lookbook. I think I have all these outfits on some vintage variation. I love Jane Fonda in this Pucci Pre-Fall outfit. My fav collections are Cruise & Pre-Fall almost every year. One day I’ll have a boat and get to wear the cruise collections. Until then, I’ll settle for Mum’s boat and her vintages. 😉 Some wisdom shared by two of my fav fashion blogging ladies, Gala Darling, a Kiwi blogger living in NY and Gala Gonzales, an It Girl from Spain, living in London who travels the world for fashion. I partied with Gonzales in NZ at Fashion Week once. They’re both awesome girls you should know. Follow G.Darling and G.Gonzales. On this day last year I arrived in Pensicola, Florida for work. Cleaning up my office today was so good. I’m BACK! Made sewing corner and set up my sewing machine. I call her Zoey and its really about time we spent some time together. I have some patterns I’vebeen dying to make and this is the perfect time. There are so many simple things in style I could make and heaps of DIYs on the web. Note on paper says this probably was written a year ago, fitting for today. Title of post was scribbled on the paper too. I don’t know the significance. I have a bad memory. It’s cold outside, Wanna stay warm, Wind whipping my windows, Winding my thoughts, Whirl wind, words spin I always wrap things around my head. I like my head covered. I like the way it feels. Thinking about wearing a gorgeous vintage silk turban tonight. This is one of my old favourite quotes by the best Dr. around.This almost blank notepad was uncovered when I excavated office junk mountain. It’s amazing the treasures you find cleaning! Must get ready & find something to wear tonight. Lauren and I are going to the Future of Art & Music warehouse party, ‘FOAM. It’s at Brickworks and there are all kinds of art, music, food & beverage things going on. Lozzie Pops did her first segment on the news for CBC today. I woke up early to catch her. So cute. Fav person on Canadian TV.

I’m trying to take this more seriously this month, video a day thing. Nothing too crazy, just one a day of me talking. I need to prove to myself I can do it and I would love your help. One of my goals this year is to be make more video. We all have the ability to have our own show, we just have to build it. This is practice. It was opened a couple months ago and features a wide mix of vintage & new clothes with a pile of old school artifacts you might find at granddad’s garage sale. I picked up a sweet & long vintage dress for summer.
