#OfftotheRaces: The Queen’s Plate 2015 at Woodbine Racetrack

Last weekend I took Carla to Woodbine Racetrack for her very first Queen’s Plate. In case you missed my post about it last week, the Queen’s Plate is the oldest continuously run race in North America and Canada‘s oldest thoroughbred horse race, having been founded in 1860. (Wiki). We attended the Hats & Horseshoes party and dressed according to the ReThink at the Races theme in black and white. My dress is an oldie from JacFlash that has a cape and I absolutely love it. It’s that LBD I can always count on when I need to throw on a dress and feel fabulous.  (LBD = Little  Black Dress)   Picked up my hat at Winners while in Ottawa with Mum last week. Bag is Betsy Johnson, shoes Nasty Gal – Shoe Cult, necklace is vintage silver from Tiffany’s (Sean got me me a couple years ago). Glasses are from Polette Eyewear in France. These mirror men were awesome. It was the perfect day to be outside in the sunshine.  Felt like I was wearing a disguise hiding under my huge hat and glasses. It was great! Thought this was a funny moment. Once we arrived and did a tour we took a break to tweet about it. We did ACTUALLY talk to each other.     Caught up with Vanessa and the KP Squad. I decided to take my chances and bet on a whole bunch or horses for the Queen’s Plate. Unfortunately, I didn’t pick the RIGHT ONE. I’m learning to bet as I go here. The winner was Shaman Ghost by one and one-quarter lengths. I’ll be at all the big races for the rest of the season through a partnership with Woodbine Racetrack. Hope I pick a big winner at least ONCE. I did win $10 which is better than nothing. 🙂   Carla and…

Photo Diary: New Hair, New Boots, Boats, Babes, Champagne, Rain

This week was a busy one. Not like ‘fake busy’, I mean I was full on running from one thing to the next every single day. I directed something Monday that was the 2nd day of shooting for a campaign. When we wrapped around 6pm, I went back to the 1188 office then over to RAINA+WILSON studio to celebrate the Globe Style Summer Issue.   It was only Monday but I was ready to wind down with a cocktail. Grey Goose was sponsoring and they had grapefruit juice, my fav. 416 Snack Bar was catering and the food was A+ too.     We were treated to a small private show by Calvin Love. The style issue comes out TODAY, Friday, June 12th. You can download it for FREE from iTunes right here.   Tuesday was rainy and my hair was a mess. I find it much easier to work and concentrate when it’s rainy out. When the sun is shining I wanna shut my computer and play outside.   You know what I mean?   I went to the Stage TEN office on Tuesday night for a live Pet Skills show.  It’s the world’s first live, interactive, web show! I’ll be sharing more about my involvement with Stage TEN soon.     The lower East side of Toronto is quite pretty, especially driving over this bridge when the sun is setting. It was almost 8pm here.   The bridge says ‘This river I step in is not the river I stand in’. It means the water is always changing, no river is ever the same. Think about it. Read more about it here.   Working together has been quite fun lately. I enjoy the morning drive and singing along to the radio.   Dylan and Sean dressed the same this week. So cute.   Really hoping we can get our car out for a drive soon. We’ve had…

Watch Me Tablescape It on The Design Network!

A couple weeks ago I was on set with Sarah Glynn to film an episode of Tablescape It, her new show on The Design Network.  We took a wooden tray with industrial handles from my place and incorporated it in a chic bar setup for an upcoming shindig at my place. S1 E1 Designer Sarah Glynn has a mission: to create an industrial-chic bar for lifestyle blogger Casie Stewart, who is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of her blog. Sarah finds inspiration in a rustic wood tray that’s special to Casie, setting up a one-of-a-kind bar complete with vintage bar cart, a DIY light installation and playful accents to help get the party started. Grey Winter Mess, March Mehhh

A photo posted by C A S I E S T E W A R T (@casiestewart) on Mar 4, 2015 at 2:06pm PST Welcome to the ugly part of winter. Slush, grey, gross. No shoes look good in this weather, even your gum boots, no matter how stylish are full of salt and stains. Broke out this old military style jacket because after a few months of the other winter warmies, I need a change. How long till spring again? Thanks Starbucks Canada for the sweet gift, used it to buy a bunch of their new pastries from La Boulange. Had my hair done at The Loft Toronto today to take out the pink/purple. I absolutely love this salon. The whole place has a vintage feel and the plate wall makes me happy every time I walk through the door. Rushing from the 1188 office to a dinner meeting, then burlesque. Our show is coming up and I’ll have tickets soon! More updates tomorrow, for now, gotta run! <3 CASIE

Lookbook + Video: #JayuBlogged Fresh Collection SS15

A couple weeks ago I was on set at a Toronto studio w/ Canadian jewellery designer Sally Han of Shop for Jayu. Last summer Sally and I exchanged emails about their first look book and I wasn’t available to take part at the time but this round I was. We had heaps of fun on the full day shoot and I’m happy to share the final product! For my looks I went with, ‘Glamour Calling’, inspired by big hair and bright colours a là 1992, and ‘Vintage Traveller’ inspired by Twiggy & Pan Am Air in the ’60’s, with a bit of Edie Swgwick. The other bloggers featured are Jodi Blk in monochrome and Victoria Simpson from Haute Canada in with the pink balloons (and the legs!). Here’s a behind the scenes video by David Sztrimbley and a peek at the lookbook. See the whole thing here and check out the latest collection at shopforjayu.com. Day 5/365 and We’re in Business, Baby!

What a whirlwind yesterday was whoa. I took a walk to get my nails done (manicure Monday!) and decided it was cold enough (-20 something w/ windchill) to whip out the vintage mink coat I inherited from Sean’s aunt via his mum last summer. Went well with my new YSL glasses & long read leather gloves. This coat is heavy and insanely warm. After about 10 minutes of walking, I opened it to get some air, I was sweating! I know how people feel about fur but this thing is already made and would be sitting in a closet if not worn by me. It’s back in hanging in mine now for a special event in the dead of winter. A friend of mine loved the coat but didn’t like the fact it was mink (understandable). She got a really similar faux version from Lily Lulu Fashion. It looks great and can’t even tell it’s faux fur. A floor length mink coat really isn’t practical for a girl on the go. Chuckling to myself as I wrote this. A few years ago I made a New Years resolution to take care of my nails. I’m not really into ‘resolutions’, I like setting goals all year but I felt this was something reasonable. Having your nails tidy and polished makes you look put together. Notable.ca posted yesterday that having your nails done is one way to look richer than you might be. I got this fancy shellac design to kick of the start of 2015 business. You like? In other news, my hair is crazy right now. I can’t decide that to do with it. It’s the awkward in between stage before a bob and the colour is so faded. I’m bored with it. Looks like I’ll be rocking hat head…

Ok Here We Go, Bundle Up! ❄️

Ok it’s back to the grind and totally freezing outside. I know it’s hard to keep your head up but you MUST. Your attitude will shape everything around you. Grab some summer photos and keep them close by for inspiration. Make sure you have super warm gloves, hat, scarf, jacket, boots. The only way to get through this it to bundle up! It appears that I am frozen in. #dlws pic.twitter.com/ScBHTDmsv5 — CASiE STEWART (@casiestewart) January 5, 2015 Here’s to a great first day back. I’ve planned out heaps of new and old things to write about and I can’t wait to share. With love, CASIE * Also, on a positive note, I feel it’s appropriate to bust out my vintage mink coat!

One for One: Evergreen Eyewear by ClearlyContacts

My friends at Clearly Contacts recently contacted me to LMK about their new Evergreen Collection where made from 95 per cent recycled steel and plastic frames. The new line takes a page from TOMS in that when you buy a frame, they plant a tree. Over 30,000 planted trees can be attributed to the company’s philanthropic effort. That’s heaps! For every Evergreen frame sold, a seed is sent to a tree nursery in a developing country, where Agroforestry workshops provide local farmers with the necessary education to help cultivate their own land. The frames are eco-friendly and vintage inspired with lots of bright colours. I got to pick a pair from the collection in exchange for posting and naturally went for something a little wild! Seen here are the Tortoise/Pink that can also be ordered with sunglasses lenses. I could have used these those for the photos! I absolutely love glasses and have written about them with ClearlyContacts a bunch of times before (here, here, here, and here). They’re fashion for your FACE! You like? Check out the Evergreen Collection here and LMK if you order a pair! <3 CASIE
