jus’ call me no time sally

Heyooo. Cra-zay busy today. Saw these dudes outside work today and got some Kick-Ass bandaids. Guy had some serious moves. I kinda wanted to roll the kid for her wig. I need to get some new wigs before I head to Florida next month. Ya, excited. They (Maple Pictures) have a room set up in the store front that they use for movie/promo stuff. We watch out the window from the office and troll over when we know they’re givin’ out free stuff.  I love these guys, trolly’s. This is Oliver (Oli-vee-eh) my friend from France. He’s here doing a massive bike ride across Canada. He was sponsored by Adidas + a bunch of other peeps in Paris. If you wanna help him out, lemme know! We were playing with all my glasses the other day. It;s fun, can’t you tell?! Have a dinner date tonight with a friend. Gonna go home and work on some blog shiz while the sun is still out. Tomorrow is Foursquare day (4/16). This  is the badge we’re all gonna get for checking in tomorrow. There’s a big Foursquare-rager at The Loose Moose tomorrow night. Gonna be there throwin’ back pints. Oh yeah. I’m gonna be in Torontoist later today right here. Stay tuned for it. This mama’s ready for THE WEEKEND! Ok. Meeting time 🙂

no smiling allowed missy, wanna see your serious face

Got up early and filled out my passport application. Photos later this afternoon. I need to renew my Canadian before I ship off to FLO-RIDA next month. Stoked. This little lady is due for a vacay! Wearing jeans today, rarely ever wear jeans (or pants). These babies are from a shop I worked at in Bondi Beach. I loved that job & beach side surfy life. Loving my new photo spot in the morning, it’s SO sunny. New Converse today too. I usually pick up a new pair in the spring time so I can wear them out during the Spring and draw on them in the park in the Summer. My team at work is going to the AGO this afternoon. Remember how much I used to go the AGO? I’ve got a membership but haven’t been in ages. Quite looking forward to it. I hope you enjoy the day. GLEE is on tonight! YESSSSSSSS. Ok. Bye 🙂

hurricane in the heart of devastation,

she’s a natural disaster

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been called a whirlwind, or my life as referred to as so.  I think it started with Mum years and years ago. I operate on fast speed, I play hard and I rarely hold back on thoughts feelings or anything really. Although, its sometimes hard throwing yourself out there (I get anxiety over it), its also allowed me to be more open, free, wild and live with no regrets. I remember this one saying I heard that said something like ‘you need to be young & foolish in order to be old & wise’.  I surely will be very old & wise one day.  As for now, urgh, still learning. Thought I lost my phone the other day, we’ve been apart since Sunday night and it’s waiting at my concierge at the moment. I nearly died, and definitely though about dying when I couldn’t find it. I just got a new phone from Telus back in February and would hate to have to ask again! This girl makes me love my new tattoo. I keep thinking about new ones but am not in a rush to get anything. You should see the bruise on my arm where I put the tattoo, it’s yellow and black and disgusting. I got some really EXCITING news this weekend, I’m going to Florida for memorial Day Weekend! Remember last year when I went Fetish Factory? Well, mama’s going again and this time, I’m going with those awesome friends from Boston. Pretty stoked for hot fun in the Sunshine State. YA-Hooters! This made me happy. I often read typewriter blues. He writes these short little notes that are often so romantic, they make my heart melt. He often asks if you would like a letter in the…

nothing screams euro like salmon pants

Hotel Nacional is a really nice place to stay and had people from all over. Highly recommend going there. They’ll let you into the pool and all the different areas even if you’re not a guest. We had a gay old time trying to guess who was from where based on the way they did or didn’t speak English. There was a lot of Euro’s and you could spot them based on their style. We saw a bunch from peeps Brazil too. As far as I knew Americans weren’t allowed in Cuba, however, this is not the case. They don’t stamp your passport and you can’t fly direct. I made friends with an American girl who came from Cuba and an Aussie living in NY who flew in from Toronto. In the woods of Snookie…..”parties here”!

broke down, worn & washed away: old havana

I learned from an Aussie friend that nearly half of the Cubans living in Old Havana were staying in residences unfit for humans. On the last touring day we stepped off the main roads and saw a very different sight. The houses were so disgusting and broken down. I couldn’t believe people were actually living there. I instantly became grossed out and didn’t want to eat or drink anything from there. I’ve worked in restaurants before and could only imagine what the kitchens looked like. Gross. You can tell at one point the buildings were really beautiful but it’s been years since they’ve had new paint or work done. They’re all washed out and the concrete is crumbling. There are residences with very narrow staircases where the first floor is all dirty and inhabited then you look up and see laundry hanging out the second and third floor windows. We passed a block that looked abandoned and dirty then a couple doors down, a furnished house with working TV. A bunch of kids were playing volleyball in a square amongst more dilapidated buildings and half of them had no shoes on. It made me sad to see a place I though was so beautiful was really a shell of what it once was. So many stories and photos from differnt stuff. I’ve got cuban cars, food, style, travellers, music and more all written and I just need to post them. I would have taken week to do it there! I really enjoyed learning about life there.

merry christmas from cuba amigos

I’m having a blast. Staying at a five star called Hotel Nacional de Cuba Not internetting very much cause it’s so freaking slow and painful. Figure I’m better to save myself the trouble and drink pina colada’s in the sun. Best pina’s here EVER! Old Havana is so neat. I took about 8,000 photos walking around. Saw a cool show last night with musica & dancing. That’s all for now…back outside to the sunshine! Have a great day, I am 🙂

havana good time

We were going to take a tour around Havana with our driver and check out the sights. It’s our natural city way to want to do stuff. Instead, as we should we relaxed, stayed around the hotel and hung out. We walked throughout some residential streets looking at homes and cars. Honestly, coolest cars here, so many from the 40’s and 50’s I just had to ring Dad. We found this little restaurant called Bom Appetit. It wasn’t the easiest to find but when we did it was in the back of someone house. It had a really neat wood fireplace and the pizza I had may have been the best one ever. After, I had my first tanning session at the resport pool. The water was cold, the sun was hot and the mohito’s tasted like a dream. I love the sun! They were setting up a stage for a show the next night, Christmas eve. I’m constantly amazed at the smoking indoors. It’s totally foreign to me after all the strict smoking laws in Canada. I’d like to get up early tomorrow and go for a walk in the sun. I’m so excited to be here for Christmas. We’re thinking about traveling around to Santa Clara or Trinidad. Wooooooo hooooo!

his name was robertico, king of the plane

There’s a Cuban hot shot on my plane sitting diagonally behind us in First Class. I’m not sure what exactly he does but judging by the dated yet very high tech HD camcorder and 21” Toshiba on his lap, I imagine its something to do with film or entertainment. He’s wearing Prada glasses and sitting beside a glamour lady with heaps of gold jewelery and makeup. She is clipping his cuticles in their seats while one of the attendants dotes on him. They are first to get drinks up here. I have some type of Cuban orange pop that is $2 (even first class!). She feeds him a mixed drink with a straw while chomping on chips. A male flight attendant watches the camcorder with ear plugs and continuously laughs his head off. I’m working on interview questions for features on Techvibes and Ad Girl. They’re gonna come out just before Toronto Life’s February issue containing my photo. I know it’s going to be a good year, 2010, I can feel it in my bones. I look over, the in-flight manicure continues. He was obnoxious and we tried to guess who he was. Before exiting the place in Havana I asked an attendant, turns out, he’s a famous Cuban comedian. How funny. Not. I’ve got so many photos to upload but I don’t know the internet situation there. I prey for free wi-fi everywhere [fingers crossed]. The air is warm, the sun is setting, and I’m in Cuba for Christmas. OMG.

concrete jungle where dreams are made of

Holy taxi cabs! I arrived last night at about 8. Took me just as long to fly here as it did to get through traffic to my hotel in Manhattan. I saw the Rockafeller Tree, it’s beauty! I’ve not done any exploring or hunting for style yet, that’s today. There’s a nasty storm on the way and we’re a little worried we wont make it out tomorrow. Stating tucked inside the hotel, insulated concrete forms to keep us safe from the nasty that mother nature is about to bring on. We’ve got a Monday afternoon flight to Cuba that CAN NOT be missed. I’m not too worried, actually, not at all. Ok, breakfast & shopping time. Have a great day!

Kevin, you’re what French call les incompetents

This is me today… I’m heading to New York tomorrow and excited. I’m also a bit nervous and having anxiety. I’ve never been to NY and i’m flying porter there all by myself then I have to take a taxi to our hotel. I know everything will be fine but I can’t help but feel the nerves kicking in.  I’ve got two suitcases, one for NY and one packed for Cuba on Monday. I’m very lucky to be going but i’m feeling the pressure to get lots of stuff done for work and blog and pack and family/christmas stuff.  Plus, Blackberry emails are not coming through and twitter replies are slow, adding to the anxiousness. In other news, I’ve decided to sell the Bell Google Android phone.  If you want it, tell me, I posted it here. Take a deep breath…I’m so ready for the beach.

I’ve spent the last couple days at Caesars Casino. It’s quite a sight. The carpets in casino’s are a real piece of work. You may not have really thought about it or noticed before, but you should.  He who designs casino carpets must be out of this world or on some really good drugs. Windsor is a bit of a crummy looking place. It’s not nearly as shiny and bright as Toronto, however, they’ve got a nice bar of you like strippers. Babe alert, saw a few hotties. No photos, I wish. Sorry. Got hassled at the border as I’m using my new Zealand passport. Not fun. US Border Patrol now has my finger prints and nice smiley photo of me. I was shocked and kind of appalled of the huge fist in Detroit. What is the significance of it? PLEASE tell me. Oh thanks Internet…It’s a 24-foot bronze fist, which is poised as if to strike, honors legendary boxer (and Detroit native son) Joe Louis. [Dear God, please, please let me have a better statue that a big fist to remember me by if I ever have have one. Thank you.] The artist is really a comedian I think. I enjoy going  through tunnels. I always think about movies where people get trapped in them and it gets all dramatic and stuff. I said “oh, I’d hate to get trapped in here” and then the next day, coming back to Canada, we hit traffic in the tunnel. It wasn’t scary though. The nav system showed us as in the middle of the water, that was a little scary. haha. That’s all for now.

il y était une fois

Bonjour chacun ! Good Morning everyone! Today I am reporting from beautiful Montreal. It’s kinda cloudy but I’m preying for sun.  It was a really long drive yesterday. Getting out of Toronto took forever, there was so much traffic and the weather was shit. We stopped for dinner in Kingston there was horrible style and our waiter was wearing shorts with a tie and dress shirt. Dinner was $80 and we tried to leave out left overs but he chased us down the street with them. I left them on a patio at another restaurant. I’ll take some photos when we’re out today and update this baby later. Bon weekend! *good thing Jeff is bilingual 😛

I’m even looking forward to the drive with you. What to wear Friday? It’s ok, I packed a few extra’s you can borrow. There’s lots of people in town , been ages since we partied together. took candy and makeup and said don’t panic

This morning in the shower I was remembering something that happened a few years ago and feeling quite lucky.  I’ll share with you now what I remember. Mum, if I mixed it up please tell me. I was about 12 years old and traveling home from New Zealand with Mum and Jenie. We had gone through all the checks  and boarded the plane. I don’t remember the exact chain of events but it went something like this. We boarded and someone’s luggage boarded the plane but not the passenger. Airline, big problem. We all had to exit the plane and they had us wait in the waiting area. The plane had come from Iraq to Australia and was picking us up in New Zealand. At the time, Irag & Oz were having bad relations.  Remember, I was only 12 when this happened so I know hardly anything about that part. The security guys were doing massive searches on ALL our luggage. They rummaged through everything taking out  consumable products like gum, candy, lotions, makeup and tossed them in the garbage bin. I asked the security guard for piece of his gum. He gave me one, it was cinnamon. They searched my hair, bottom of my shoes, even behind my belt! Every passenger went though the same hands on search. We found out shortly after that there WAS a BOMB ON OUR PLANE. Yep, the one  we just exited. The bomb squad was on board taking care of it as we waited and waited and waited.  It was eight long hours  in the airport before another plane arrived to take us back to North America. After 9/11 people really scared to fly, including me.  However, I boarded my next flight knowing I already had a bomb on a plane once in…

some times i don’t feel like it

I walked around for about an hour thinking about my life. I was having realizations and I felt like a crazy person. It was as if I was in a fog. I was having anxiety. Sometimes I freak out. Sometimes I don’t want to be on the internet anymore. Sometimes I don’t know what to do about stuff and sometimes I forget things.  I started freaking about my last minute trip to a foreign country. Panicked. Instant attack. I left the store. I walked down the street back in my own fog again.  I’m nervous about going but then think not going would be silly too. For a bunch of different reasons.  It’s a chance to relax and go some place  cool with bunch of cool old friends. Relax. I’m packing one bag;  one nice outfiit, one dress, one piece bathing suit, one yoga mat. This is the relax retreat. A true mini vacation/airport tour. Vanilla as some may say. I know when I come back Sunday I’ll have had lots of time with self.  I love traveling; airport, airplane, people, waiting, watching, thinking, moving.  I love being in motion.

you just gotta put it out there y’know

Curry chicken day from catering. My favorite. My new glasses should be arriving any day now. Maybe they’ll be home when I get there. Made plans with myself tonight, need those days. Was thinking after Mum left that I’d like to go on another trip and went to meet Tiff at the Spoke Club. Some cool artwork hanging around right there at the moment. Turned out to be a fun night. Ran into friends after she headed back to the burbs. Had drinks, smoked cigars and booked a trip to Mexico for the weekend. I say, you just gotta put it out there, the power of positive thought. It works. More on that adventure later.  Mum’s gonna ring me as soon as she reads this saying “MEXICO!!!!!!!!! CASIE!!!!!”. I can hear it. Ran into some peeps that know the blog and  made a new friend.  She’s cute, look & listen to what she said. So cute. Traveled some blogs recently and found cool cats like The Deadly NightShades collective and Agent Lover.  My fav one is this little darling in NY who’s started the Uniform Project. She’s wearing one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion while raising funds for school kids in India. So cool. She’s got 7 identical dresses and she reinvents them with style like you wouldn’t believe. She’s as cute as a button. I’d like to be her friend. I showed Sabrina ans she said  “she’s a brown you”.  God she’s cute.

i find that haaaaaaaad to BAH-leeeve

hee we gow I’m between the clouds. I’m 34,000 feet  tall. Floating, flying, soaring. The sun is setting in the sky. Sitting right here, the power went off before we left and my heart dropped as I fought my own panic button. The lights didn’t even turn on. Why is there no wi-fi on this thing? I’m 130 miles from Washington, that’s twenty minutes.  I’m much further than that from home. I might be even further than that if I don’t make this connecting flight. I’ll have to spend the night in Washington in hotel all by myself and miss a day of work.  I missed my flight last time and I’m sure my boss would think I planned it. I watched some really cool documentary snippets. * Looked it up It was This American Life, Season Two, Episode 3 about Going Down in History. The kids in school talked about their lives and things then sat there to take one cheezy photo for the yearbook. That photo, the same pose they do every year represented nothing about what their life was really like at that very moment.  I liked it. It was one of those shows that was fast and creative and stays on your mind even when it’s over. One part was about two guys who escaped from an institution using rope they made from dental floss. Very creative. I was scheduled for the middle seat but I got the aisle. I’ve been wondering if the two beside me know each other or it was just in my cards to be lucky.  I can’t tell. The gate for my connecting flight is different than the one on my ticket .  Now, because of that, the girl said ‘you’re really close’ and looked at me happily.  I’m going to…

his name is robert but you can call him bobby

I spent the whole day lazing around in the sunshine in the pool. It was simply divine. As I laid there floating in the pool gazing up at the blue sky and occasional cloud, I thought, it doesn’t get any better than this. It did get better. Ellen checked into the hotel and Bob took me on a secret excursion. I had no idea and was I ever surprised. They knew I’ve been looking for a new laptop and Bob woke up this morning and told Ellen he was gonna surprise me with one today.  I just about died when he said ‘we’re going to get you a laptop right now’. We went, I got. I’m still smiling and I’m super excited. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I named him Robert after Bob and I’m extremely grateful to have you both in my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  This kiss is for you.

larry big foot bird

It’s a cool place this city. Wandered around the Quincy Market. Lots of history and things to look at. I’ve got a Red Sox hat now too. These kids were about to do a parade. There were heaps of them around. All girls in this photo but there were mostly boys. We stopped to ask what they were doing and one of the boys said ‘put your hands over your head’. I did. What I didn’t realise was that he was on the phone and not talking to me at all. Pretty funny if you were there. Talk about big shoes to fill, Larry Bird had some massive feet. I loved learning about all the buildings around Boston. There’s some really neat ones with beautiful windows and doors that are really old. I like that stuff. Popped into Cheers to see some old friends. Everyone knew my name.  Glad to know they’re keeping it real in Beantown. Look Mum, travelled all the way to Boston and found Cambridge. It was scheduled to rain today but it did a little this morning and not it’s all sun, sun, sun. Heading out to a special party tonight. Going to jump in the pool now. Have a great day!

i’ve got a crush on boston

I almost missed my flight this morning as I woke up late to my driver knocking at my door after waiting for over half an hour. Had to pay for that. I arrived to Pearson International at 5am for a 6 am flight and wisked my way through customs to barely make it. Switched in Washington and barely made that too. I toured around downtown Boston with my friend. Beautiful city. I love it here. The history and old buildings amazes me and I’ve been soaking it up all day. Beautiful day it was too.   I rode around on the Boston Duck tour (kinda like the Hippo Tour we have in TO) and got to go on the Charles River. I also got to drive the Duck Truck/Boat. I also made BFF’s with a 4 year old who got to drive it too. We got stickers.  I’ve got a heap of photos to add but i’ll get to that later. Just had a dip in the pool and a beer at the house. Heading downton for dinner. It’s been a really great day.

bike helmet meets babe

I’ve been avoiding wearing/getting a helmet despite Mum’s efforts to convince me I need one. This is going to be hard for Mum to read the most I think… Last night at the intersection where near my house, a 34 year old woman was  hit almost killed when a car struck her while biking. She was not wearing a helmet. The streets were closed off and as I rode by and saw the lonely bike standing beside the police car, my heart dropped. I took these photos on the way to meet Saul Colt for dinner. The accident happened while I was there and 3 blocks behind me in the photo. I’m going to get a helmet within the next week. I will be photo-blogging it all the time. If you or your company wanna be my helmet head sponsor please email [email protected]

Was talking a little ‘break’ from my hard work day at the office. Getting shit done. I surfed some favorite blogs and checked Raymi‘s then popped over to Phil‘s. Caught this fun one he took of us at the Island.  Jenie and I always do the head throw back when we laugh really hard. haha. That was a fun day.  I miss beach living and surfing. I miss the waves. I’m taking a mini-vacay and visiting some friend in one of the oldest cities in the USA this weekend, BOSTON.  It’s my first time so I’m kinda excited. I’m excited for adventure and looking forward to airports. I love the airport. Inspires me to write and imagine stories.  If you know some stuff I should check out  or Boston hot spots, please tell me.
