arts & culture writer = me

I wrote an article a few months back about a fascinating artist named Michael Golland. Afterwards, I found out that it was going to be the feature cover story! I was quite excited given I’m yet to have ‘write a cover story’ checked off my list. An excerpt is below. You can read the whole article here. “He wants people to be captivated, to find and immerse themselves in their flow of consciousness. Michael’s art is about finding the Zen within and connecting to its powerful energy. His paintings are unique and recognizable. Fluid lines dance across the canvas creating trajectory spaces filled with monochromatic colors. He aims to draw connections between the objects, the lines, the space, the spirit within and the essence of life itself. Michael was born in Yorkshire, England during the Second World War.” [get all the juice]

canadian family you say, ma?

I just had a long chat with Mum who just returned from New Zealand. I miss it. I want to go back there so bad. She told me a story about the very tip of the North Island called Cape Reinga. It is so very beautiful. She said that New Zelander’s (The Kiwi’s!) are very creative and they place much of attention & value on the arts and artsy things. That makes me feel awesome.

i won the camera, now comes the fun part

It was only January 9, 2009 that I wrote a post titled “hey universe, I need a new camera“. It is amazing what you can do if you set your mind to it. The power of positive thought baby! Special thanks to everyone that voted for me and joined Daily Challenge. It was a close race and as I wanted, I came in second place, scoring me the jazzy new flippy video camera. “This camera is not only super sleek and sexy but was also named “one of the most significant electronic products of the year” by the New York Times and if that wasn’t enough the makers of The Flip are have committed to give away 1,000,000 Flip Video camcorders to qualified nonprofits by 2012. Talk about Do Gooding!” Thanks Daily Challenge!

inspiring change through design and creation

I’m watching this inspiring documentary JonJon sent me. It is all about how waste is food and reducing the amount of waste created. Really interesting, and kind of long, but worth it. As a globe, our natural resources are increasingly becoming less and less available. If we find more ways to reduce, reuse and recycle the products we consume, we will have a more sustainable way of life. They mention how we consistently take and take and do not give back. This needs change. I’m a big advocate for giving and living green. This documentary is really interesting, the innovation and sustainable development blows my mind. Now, the real challenge, getting the masses and corporations to change their manufacturing and energy usage. New challenges arise every day and this is why you should be active and keep on learning. Have an awesome day!

His views are up in the millions and he is quite funny. You know I love darling Barry Obama and this guy is almost the next best thang yo!! It’s amazing the viral effect that something like this can have. He told ET that he has some ‘projects in the works’ and I say good for him. Watch the vid on youtube. I wonder who I could do a video of? Any suggestions? Maybe…lady Gaga or Paris?

it is surely time for change

I love living in Canada and being Canadian. When you look at our influence on the world and how we are perceived on a global scale, we really have alot to be thankful for. If you have travelled to any country other than here, you know how much people really love us Canadians. When I lived in Australia I used to often go through this conversation: Aussie with attitude– “G’day, you American?” Me – “No, I’m from Canada!” Aussie with no attitude – “Great, wanna come for a beer?” (pronounced ‘bear’) Me – “Great!” (thanking god I am from Canada not the US!) I am really proud of Ontario and our stance on being part of the electric car movement. What’s next, portable solar power? Maybe, that would be really cool. If you haven’t seen the news or heard about Better Place. I suggest you educate yourself. Here is an excerpt from the Better Place site regarding Ontario: “Working with Better Place, the Province of Ontario has become the first in Canada to take a step toward sustainable transportation with electric cars powered by renewable energy, or Car 2.0. It’s a forward-looking move that reflects the provincial government’s commitment to create jobs, strengthen an economy where the car industry represents a quarter of all manufacturing output, and end the use of coal-fired electricity by 2014.”

on the burts bus, summer bees

Not too long ago I received a gift package from Burt’s Bees that contained a bunch of products to try out. I put aside my Aveeno the past two weeks and I’ve been using Burt’sBees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Shea butter Body Wash. I like it because it’s 98.5% all natural and not tested on animals. It is really soft on your skin and doesn’t leave it dry. I would have liked if it was a little more foamy for the loofah but that aside, I really like it. It makes my skin feel lovely like on summer days. The sun is shining bright today and it makes me happy. P.S. Anyone up for swimming pools?

this shampoo is great if …

you like a burning itchy head For the past two weeks I’ve been using Dove Advanced Colour Therapy shampoo for light hair and I’m officially ready to toss it. My hair feels pretty normal, its short and low maintenance, however, my head, it feels like I have a sunburn. I stopped using it but it absolutely made my head itchy and hurt. If this is something you like, try this shampoo. If not, try Aveeno. I usually use Aveeno Skin Relief body wash on my hair, makes it nice and soft.

the tall tower is timeless, technology takes us higher

I look out my window and stare at the tower all the time. I was thinking how crappy their website for the unit was several months ago, they must have heard me say that because they updated it. Every night at the top of the hour there is a crazy laser light show that I absolutely love. I have been studying it (its right out my window OK!!) and it seems to be getting more complex and adding more colours & designs all the time. Here are my favorite facts: Millions of colours and infinite effects Microprocessor controlled, each fixture can produce 16.7 million colours. Intelligent digital control makes the system programmable from a single computer console. Each fixture has a unique “address” that can be programmed individually to create an infinite variety of lighting effects Directional lighting Unlike conventional light sources, one of the unique benefits of LEDs is that they are directional; light output can be controlled and precisely directed. Therefore the resulting lighting will illuminate the Tower while ensuring light output does not “spill” or interfere with nearby hotels, office towers or residences. Low maintenance The LED technology installed at the CN Tower is designed to achieve excellent performance standards and with its intended use is expected to last in excess of 10 years, requiring minimal fixture replacement and maintenance. Unlike conventional lighting systems, the new system will not require frequent replacement and disposal of light bulbs. Find out more information including how you can get the lights programmed for your event by visiting the site.

More and More on the Redness

The Red String protects us from the influences of the Evil Eye. Evil eye is a very powerful negative force. It refers to the unfriendly stare and unkind glances we sometimes get from people around us. Envious eyes and looks of ill will affect us, stopping us from realizing our full potential in every area of our life.[more] HOW TO: Have someone you love to tie the Red String to your left wrist. First, have them tie the string closely around your wrist with a simple knot. Repeat by knotting the string six more times for a total of seven knots. Now make a promise to yourself that you will refrain from negative thoughts or talk about others. This harmful behavior will interfere with your effort to gain personal fulfillment and protection. Then have the person finish by saying the Ben Porat Prayer (read from right to left) which prevents others from giving us the evil eye.[more]

Oh winter, why dry?

This time of year is always the worst for dry skin. A few weeks back I received a Burt’s Bees survival filled with Burt’s bees products for me to test out. I have been using the Milk & Honey Body lotion the most. I keep it in my purse or at the office. It really leaves your skin feeling hydrated, absorbs quickly, and is not greasy. The lotion is specially formulated for normal to dry skin and includes “Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, formulated to leave rough, flaky skin soft and smooth, naturally. ” I recommend you give it a try this winter. Take care of your skin & take care of yourself!!

canada smokes europe!

Received my update from the Economist on the hottest stories and there was something a bit interesting today… Turns out there is alot of pot smoking going on in Europe. After all, I have seen a lot of cannabis related branded products. I learned “cannabis use in Europe remains high by historical standards, according to a new report on drug use from the EU’s drug-monitoring arm. Around a quarter of all Europeans aged between 15 and 64, or some 72m people, have tried cannabis. Meanwhile, more and more people in the US are going to a west wendover dispensary and other locales, in stark contrast to their EU counterparts. The Dutch are not the keenest spliff smokers in Europe, despite lenient laws: the Danes, French and Britons are most likely to have puffed on a joint at some point in their lives. The highest levels of usage are reported among people between the ages of 15 and 24.” I think that in Canada we might just smoke then in this category. Being that it is legal in most Canadian provinces, residents are able to consume their cannabis is many different ways, such as through these dab pens sold at slickvapes.comFrom what I hear, we smoke alot of pot, so I did some research. Turns out, I am right. I’m always learning about the latest cannabis products and there are so many on the market at the minute. My friend recently got a cannabis subscription box from https://flowerpwr.ca/ and she loves it. It seems like everyone I know is smoking cannabis at the minute! CBC reports from the UN, “Canadians use marijuana at four times the world average, making Canada the leader of the industrialized world in cannabis consumption, a recent United Nations report found. WHAT IS M O V E M B E R ?

“Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health.” The Movember Foundation was started in Australia in 2004. It is a not for profit, charitable organization that implements a month long event called Movember each year in the month of November. Movember’s goal is to raise awareness around men’s health issues and raises funds charities chosen by each country involved, focussing primarily on prostate cancer. Before the Movember movement, prostate cancer was pretty unknown and not talked about. Now, due to the raised awareness, it is hoped that men know the signs and when to access help. Symptoms don’t usually present themselves until the cancer has grown big enough to put pressure on the urethra, which then causes issues with needing to urinate more frquently and having issues when urinating. If you suspect you may have prostate cancer, it is highly advised that you visit a urologist like Advanced Urology who will handle your situation with care and compassion, and talk you through diagnosis and treatment methods. However, these symptoms don’t automatically mean prostate cancer, although it is advised that you visit a urologist anyway to find the cause (which usually involves prostate enlargement). Movember unites men and encourages discussions on any prostate related topic. Even discussing remedies such as prostagenix is encouraged. Additionally, by raising awareness about prostate health, it is hoped that more men will be encouraged to get in touch with a doctor if they notice any issues so that any ailments can be addressed and treated. For example, although an enlarged prostate can be a sign of cancer, sometimes this enlargement can be benign. Above all, it can sometimes be reassuring to learn that the risk of prostate cancer…

One day to go for the 56th US Election!! Go Obama!!

CNN is reporting the following for the US Election tomorrow (see image). What an exciting time! I hope and prey Obama wins. It will be a real shame for the US to have old fart McCain in office for the next term. It truly is time for change in the US. Their economy and state of the nation has become such a mess since Bush has been in office (including his investment in the war on Iraq, however, we won’t touch on that item!). I’ll be at a pub with friends watching the future of the US unfold!! Educate yourselves! I’m sharing some interesting facts I found here about the election & candidates: Either candidate would become the first president born outside the Continental United States, as Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and McCain was born at Coco Solo, Panama Canal Zone, a US naval base. This 2008 election will mark the first time since the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960 that a sitting Senator will be elected President of the United States. The new president elected in 2008 will be the first president in 184 years to take office after multiple consecutive two-term presidential administration (Bush & Clinton) McCain would be the oldest U.S. president upon ascension to the presidency at age 72 years Barack Obama and John McCain are 24 years and 340 days apart in age. The 2008 election marks the first time since the 1928 election in which neither an incumbent President nor an incumbent Vice President ran for their party’s nomination in the presidential election

I watched this ad and could not help but be touched by it.I saw it on Moby’s blog, he writes alot. It makes me feel sad more than anything to think about the polar bears and how it affects them and there is nothing that THEY can actually do. We have to. Will we be able to save them from becoming extinct?I believe that fighting Global Warming is extremely important. Here is a link to an article on theEnvironmental Defense Fund site about ‘Global Warming Myths and Facts‘. I found it to be quite interesting, including the PDF with all the signatures form the Gleneagles G8 Summit in 2005.

I like sharing, who has feedback on SharePoint??

I don’t know why but I like photos of server colocation. Nerdy and kinda weird but whatever. It’s something I have with computers. Me likey. The idea of being able to access all my files anywhere in the world is just exceptionally appealing, you know? SO you could be on a beach and pull out that business report, or be at the train station and check over the slides for that presentation next week. Super useful. I know that this is precisely the kind of thing that some businesses might want to use SharePoint for as part of their Office 365 package. Some of these businesses also choose to use end user experience monitoring to ensure that the experience of any given user is a positive and productive one. I have basic knowledge and an looking into this type of solution. I’ve already begun looking into how I’m going to convert my digital and physical documents for it, so I have a few questions about the actual server-side of things. Stuff such as management issues, ease of setup, troubleshooting, what it is like when there are technical difficulties. You know, the standard fare. Oh, and in case you were wondering, I’ve been looking into this software called FilecenterDMS.com to help me sort and convert the physical files. It’s pretty nice from what a friend told me about it. They use it in their office to convert receipts and the like, and it was a part of a major digitization effort they had last year that’s apparently really helped them streamline a bunch of their procedures and processes in-office. Which, made it seem perfect for me to use in my application. I’m wondering: Have you worked with Sharepoint? Do you know about it? How hard is implementation? Is is a drastic…

Do One Good, Daily!!!!

Giving is it’s own gift. I truly believe that one you have given, whether time, energy, money or anything, you have already received. The joy in giving really effects my life and I try each day to put more positive energy into the world through the things that I do. Some friends of mine have been working on a really amazing global project called the Daily Challenge. It is all about bringing together a global consciousness of people who actively do one good thing each day for themselves, someone else, the environment, or the world. There are a few celebrity guests involved in the project including Deepak Chopra and others. I’m helping to get more and more people on board as it is truly something I believe can change the world. If enough people put their energy into the same thoughts, those thoughts will become things and we will feel change begin to take place. Click the screenshot of the website above to get involved!! ♥ Love & Light xoxo

Savant: extraordinary skills not exhibited by most persons.

Educate yourselves… This is some kind of wonderful! Savant syndrome—sometimes abbreviated as savantism—is not a recognized medical diagnosis, but researcher Darold Treffert defines it as a rare condition in which persons with developmental disorders (including autism spectrum disorders) have one or more areas of expertise, ability or brilliance that are in contrast with the individual’s overall limitations. Individuals with the syndrome are often simply called savants. This can be a source of confusion since savant can also mean a person of learning, especially one of great knowledge in a particular subject. My dear Walt Whitman wrote this beauty : Savantism THITHER, as I look, I see each result and glory retracing itself and nestling close, always obligated; Thither hours, months, years—thither trades, compacts, establishments, even the most minute; Thither every-day life, speech, utensils, politics, persons, estates; Thither we also, I with my leaves and songs, trustful, admirant, As a father, to his father going, takes his children along with him.

Internet Addiction = Prescription Available??

Posted on Perez: Obsessive internet use is a public health problem which is so serious it should be officially recognised as a clinical disorder, according to a leading psychiatrist. “Internet addiction is a ‘clinical disorder’ British psychiatrists have previously reported that between five and 10 per cent of online users are internet addicts Sufferers spend unhealthy amounts of time playing online games, viewing pornography at online websites like this one https://www.tubev.sex/?hl=de or emailing. They suffer four symptoms: They forget to eat and sleep; they need more advanced technology or more hours online as they develop ‘resistance’ to the pleasure given by their current system; if they are deprived of their computer, they experience genuine withdrawal symptoms; And in common with other addictions, the victims also begin to have more arguments, to suffer fatigue, to get lower marks in tests and to feel isolated from society. Early research into the subject found highly educated, socially awkward men were the most likely sufferers but more recent work suggests it is now more of a problem for middle-aged women who are spending hours at home on their computers. Psychiatrist Dr Jerald Block said some sufferers were so addicted to the internet that they required medication or even hospital treatment to curb the time they spent on the web. He said: “The relationship is with the computer. It becomes a significant other to them. They exhaust emotions that they could experience in the real world on the computer through any number of mechanisms: emailing, gaming, porn.” Watching Preeti Young playing with a dildo seems like more excitement than going out into the real world and meeting people. He added: “It’s much more acceptable for kids to talk about game use, whereas adults keep it a secret. Rather than having sex, or arguing with their…

Madonna’s Tattoos

Madonna sported Jewish symbols on her arm in the video for the James Bond theme song Die Another Day. The tattoo is written in Hebrew and is on her right shoulder written are the letters: the letters “lamed”, “alef” and “vav” (from right to left). There is no such word in Hebrew and you can be sure that all the know-it-alls in the world immediately proclaimed it to be yet another celebrity foreign language tattoo gone bad. But the truth of the matter is that Madonna once again outwitted the sheep. So called Rabbi, Yehuda Berg, a worldwide religious celebrity known mostly as the spiritual leader of the Kabbalah Centre which Madonna reportedly attends regularly provided the official interpretation. Berg explains: The “word” on Madonna’s shoulder is not actually a word, but rather one of the names from the 72 Names of G-d. Kabbalah explain that Moses used these names to split the Red Sea, and that we can use them to create miracles in our own lives. Each name draws a particular kind of energy. The name in the “Die Another Day” video is for eliminating the ego. Kabbalah finds its main source in the Zohar, a text revealed to Moses de Leon in the thirteenth century based ostensibly on the writings of a second-century scholar Simeon bar Yochai. The Zohar parallels a tradition of commentary on the Torah, the first five books of the Bible, but claims there are hidden meanings in the arrangement of and comparisons between letters and words in which these books are written. This form of interpretation becomes quite complicated when the numeric significance of each word (Hebrew letters are each associated with a number) is taken into account. Madonna began attending the Kabbalah Centre, an international school of kabbalah studies, in 1997 in…
