The Sweetest Thing: New Jeans, New Jacket, Jean Machine

The week before I started at Community I was CRAZY busy with TIFF events. One of the things that makes TIFF so busy is the insane amount of parties and outfit changes in between gift lounges & films. NO really, it’s actually stressful! My friend Val works with Jean Machine and they invited me to the Eaton Centre store to ….PICK OUT AN OUTFIT! I worked in the mall heaps during highschool and knew Jean Machine well. My first job was at GAP  in Fairview Park Mall. I used to wear a LOT of jeans back then and Jean Machine was my destination. I remember almost crying to Dad once I needed new jeans and in the car we went to Jean Machine. I wish like crazy I still has those super soft Silver’s from grade ten, I lived in those things. It’s been ages since I walked into a Jean Machine store and was happy to be re-introduced. They had Yoga Jeans, Mavi is still there, and some new brands. I tried on about 10 pairs with a stylist over the course of an hour. Decided on a pair of  flare (yes, and so long) jeans by Guido & Mary.  Low rise, slim fit, and BEST a$$ pants. No seriously. To complete my outfit I got a fitted blazer from the Jean Machine brand YDE. Wore the blazer at first day at work and jeans when I spoke last week at a conference week. Pop in and visit a Jean Machine store. You’ll be surprised by their updated coolness! Twitter is @JeanMachine 😉 Thank Val for inviting me. Her and I laughed our heads off and tried on clothes. Faded Soul, Napajiri Jacket, Blondes, Ch*Armz

About a month ago I got this jacket from Faded Soul online. I love it. It’s got a cool shape, nice front pockets, has a big hood, and fits like a poncho. I creeped online to learn it’s from European brand Napajuri. They have a really cute campaign with a couple travelling across Europe in the clothes. People get to vote on what they do on the journey. I want to BE IN this campaign. It’s so cute. She’s blonde too. I’ve been asked where I got it so I checked and there are still more!  The site is fadedsoul.com and you can find it here. Mine is a size small. I think there might be a fur hood to add from what I see in photos. Hat H&M, pants Yoga Jeans from ShopGirls, boots Sam Edelman, bag Nella Bella Faded Soul is a new Canadian internet store that is owned by a friend of a friend. They have heaps of stuff for guys and girls. They’re on Facebook and Twitter too. Brock ordered some sweet John Varvatos shoes and posted photos here. I was immediatley attracted to this other brand I’d never heard of called ‘Blondes make Better T-Shirts’. The shirts are, well, blonde and fun. I got the ‘Skinny’ and ‘Pull’. Tres cute. Last week I was sent this striped ballet shrug from Ch*arms. I wasn’t sure what was arriving but once opened the package I knew these were gonna come in handy.  I also got set of sleeves that velcro to your bra strap for under short sleeve shirts. I wish I thought of this! They retail for $28 and can be purchased online at ch-armz.com. i’ve been an awful good girl, santa baby

Made a wee list of a couple things I really enjoy having. I would never have this stuff without recomendations and introductions from a bunch of you.  I appreciate it. Here we go: Yoga Jeans from Shop Girls Gallery Boutique I was invited t the shop and given jeans and they are super comfy for someone who hates pants. I haven’t worn jeans in years and now I love these ones. I wear them when I travel and they are so comfy on the plane. They never lose their shape. I have dark denim and this one time I spilled a beer on me when flying and you could hardly even tell. It dried in no time and I got another beer. Bam Jamz Bamboo clothes Was given this at the TIFF gift lounge and I’ve been living in it since. The tank top has a panda on it’s really comfy. I like looking stylish but I also like no fuss, feel good clothes. Mine is pajams/yoga wear but I wear it as day clothes. Also great for traveling. You get it at at these stores. Marks Work Warehouse super long soft cardigan Before New Zelanad Fashion week I was invited to Mark’s. One of the things I got was this super long soft cardigan that I have been wearing like crazy. It’s really nice for around the house. Soft like a more stylish snuggie for traveling. Warm too. I woud buy one for all my girlfriends if I could afford it. what have you done for me lately? ooooh ya

I’ve never taken a red eye before but whoa. I took some sleepy time pills last night at 11pm as we were leaving LA, woke up as we were in final descent to Toronto after sleeping the  entire five hour trip. The last couple days travelling YYZ>LAX>DFW>LAX>YYZ really tuckered me out. Hibernating all weekend. Can’t wait for my trip to San Juan next week. Talk about fun in the sun! Might even leave my computer at home and just take ipad & phone. This weekend I’m putting together a week’s worth of posts with goodies for you. yesterday i biked to the meetings i had. it was sunny and warm and i didn’t even have to wear a jacket! it’s the end of october, that is fascinating… well, because it makes me think about global warming and how it used to be cold by now but on the other hand it is totally freaking awesome. today i am telling you about my stuff… bike: raymi the minx, vintage > i need to fix the alignment. wanna help? jeans: shop girl gallery boutique, yoga jeans > these guys are so comfy. remember when i NEVER wore jeans at all, yeah, well that has changed now that i have these. rest time at the fake beach by the lake. nice to get feet in the sand and look out across the water with sun on your face. was quite beautful. sweater: marks, SOFT edge to edge cardigan > very soft and long, i like to wear it on the plane because it works like a snuggie but fits in your carry on purse. it also covers up your whole outfit and shows only the legs so you feel skinny and never ugly. i was walking back to bike when camera shot here. needed to take off sweater cause it was so warm out. btw it is also quite warm, the sweater, snuggly really. washes up nice and soft, ok in dryer too. mum and sister, you would both love this. tank: holt renfrew, bamjamz > made from bamboo and really really comfy, breathes nice, actually for sleeping/yoga…bike riding i guess too. that’s exercise. it has a panda on it. not a sad panda, a happy panda i like to think. hat: some vintage shop @ st. kevins arcade, ponsonby, nz. got it that day i went shopping with a…

Last night Keri and I went to the Canada Goose 2010 preview. I’ve never owned any Goose gear. Saw heaps of peeps, checked out lots of merch and it was nice to get to know the brand a little better. How cute is this jacket? And this hat? We look good together, don’t we? Jacket is from the kids line. Loves the brightness and it felt really snug & warm. I’d love to be wearing it when I’m going around to Virgin events and  doing all kinds of cool stuff this winter. hint hint 😉 Winter is coming guys. Let shope it’s not too damn cold this year aiiight. I’m ready for hibernation station when it hits.  Actually, I don’t mind winter that much. It doesn’t get nearly as cold now as it did when we were kids. Remember how much show we used to get? Like CRAZY amounts. Canada Goose has these Goose People who brave the elements and do amazing things. I got a prety neat book about them all. I reckon I can do some pretty amazing things too? Maybe I should climb a massive mountain in my spare time. I really like way the companies/agencies are starting to get creative with event activities and take aways. Last night we each got our photo taken in Goose gear, were given it on a branded USB key, then the image was made into a snow globe. (Dad, you are getting this for Christmas. Love this tune. How great of a movie is Beaches? I remember watching in in the basement on a Saurday morning, early, with my sister. Sad but so happy their friendship those two. The shirt above is Cybelle from NZ. My fav Orly nail polish in shiny Black Out and Joe Fresh matte lipstick in Poppy.  A couple of my recently acquired  new favourites. Went to Shopgirls Gallery Boutique the other day and got some Yoga Jeans. Great little shop it is, located in Parkdale and carries all kinds of Canadian designers. All the staff are artists and they have gallery space on the walls. They have a blog, Twitter and are on FB too. Michelle the owner took me around and we perused all the Canadian designers. Look at her in the gorgeous collar. I want! These are the Yoga Jeans I picked, signature limited edition made for Shopgirls exclusively, down to the last couple pairs ones. Check me out, Shopgirls logo there. This is the standard lunge test. It works, they are SUPER stretchy. Wont lose their shape. Retail around $110 which is totes reasonable. I never wear jeans and wore them all day yesterday, deff Casie approved. The best pants I’ve worn in a while. Go to the boutique and get some of your own it is at 1342 Queen Street West. They are probably open call 416 534 7467 to check first. It reminded me of a little shop I might see in Ponsonby, Auckland filled with New Zealand designers. Hi Mum, I just called to say thanks.

Hi Mum, I just called to say thanks.

Today I rung mum at work and I think she must have been busy because she seemed a little surprised when I said ‘hi mum’. I told her I was calling to say thank you for having me and being so supportive. She didn’t have a lot of time to talk but I wanted to thank her for everything. To tell her I love calling her all the time when something exciting happens and I can’t tell anyone else or they just wouldn’t feel as excited as her. For all the times she stayed up late sewing ballet skirts to sell at the studio so she could afford our dance classes. For driving to all those dance competitions, skiing, skating, birthday parties, recitals, modelling, tae kwon do, and to all my friends houses for sleepovers. For showing me how to bake and encouraging me to make things in the kitchen, thank you. For embracing my weirdness and letting me wear what I want as a child no matter how bizarre the neighbours thought she was for doing to it. For putting us in summer reading club at the library. For all the work that went in to creating JEANS Publishing company and helping me write that book as a young teenager because I know it was shit ton of work and late nights (for her). For teaching me to work hard and not listen to anyone who says ‘you can’t do that’. Your strong attitude is with me everyday and I carry it close to my heart and I hear your voice in my head. For teaching me to be tough and know how to throw a damn good punch (whoops!) and studying Tae Kwon Do together. For getting me braces because you knew that my smile would bring joy to other people and I…

Was frantic yesterday running around looking for something to wear in Dallas that is ‘Western inspired’. Have no fear, the tickle trunk I like to call my closet room is chalk full of theatricical outfits. Jeans hanging up there are my Shop Girls Yoga Yeans, only jeans I’ve worn since I got them. Really comfy and slimming, this all coming from someone who does not like wearing pants so, I mean serious. Keri also came through with a rodeo shirt that will be perfect. I knew exactly what I was looking for and it was surely not this. Well, in some variation but not together… Before shopping I stopped by to see the lovely Tarek at Nella Bella and look what I got… BTW took the nose ring hoop out (Mum :)) so Dallas and customs don’t think I’m a punk. Shaved head/mohawk style looks kinda punky but the blonde hair is distracting, so… I try to take the safest route and go for cuteness when I visit to the airport. I feel like thatis somehting @barbiestyle (aka Barbie) would say. Haha. I wonder if I will see that one customs guy again? Whoa, tangent. Back to this this lovely HUGE bag, he said I needed this colour for LA. SO true. Thank you! I picked up a couple others that will come out during my travels. One is the famed Nella Bella London bag in red. The small part holds my passport and essentials and the big part fits my iPad (Andy) and netbook (Robert) in it perfectly. The big yellow guy is so handsome. If you ever wonder the white rabbit furry guy is from Ruby Boutique in New Zealand. Ok, flight time. Catch ya on the flip side AKA, in the air on Virgin America!
