inspiration is everywhere, open your eyes

Stayed up late making changes to blog. I’m not done yet, it takes forever. A blog is a continuous work in progress, always evolving. I’m ready for it to get a makeover. Not too much change, more in function than design. Talk nerdy to me baby. It’s funny, people often think I spend ALL my time out & about on the town attending media events and having fun. Let me be honest with you, I spend heaps of time at home on my computer, alone. Part of me is very introverted and I place huge value on my time alone. In order to have heaps of energy to share, you gotta charge your batteries. Hung out with KMS in NZ on Skype for a bit. I love Skype, good way to charge up seeing old friends. I was shocked at his huge beard! Massive! Not alowed to shave cause he has a modelling gig on Monday. He just did an international ad for Samsung & his new tracks are about to drop in Australia soon. Keep up the good work, love you. Skype convo gifs are so cute omg. Last year, no beard, less fro. We hung out while I was in Auckland for NZ Fashion Week.  Chillin’ on Ponsonby Road post Stolen Girlfriends Club show.  I had awesome two tone pink/black nails that day.  The whole trip was so fun. I miss NZ. Saw this on Google+ via Alana Joy. Are you on G+? Add me here. I have invites if you want. Pretty much the story of my life, except the pad of paper is a computer. Got asked today “Where do you find inspiration for blogging?”. I find inspiration everywhere. I could sit at my computer (and have) for hours (ages) and tell stories, write about pop culture, review tech sites and products. Sometimes I…

today in blog news – i updated!

I updated to the new WordPress 3.2. The way it looks when I type before I publish is a bit different, I hear there are a few other new things too. It’s more like writing a document now. I feel like a reporter. I am reporting life of/on/in the internet. eTalk called me a Social Media Expert last night.  No argument.  I’m happy with how it went. Will post soon for Mum & anyone else outside Canada or doesn’t have TV.  The host Ben referred to me as “Stewart” and after calling me “famed blogger” they put my site on screen National TV. HI CANADA! I was using webOS on a new HP tablet. A bunch of people were them at an HP Blogger event last night.  I am still using iPad. My friend the CellGuru thinks I’ll learn to love HP’s TouchPad better. I dunno, we’ll see. Y’all know Andy is my iPad boyfriend.  One of the reasons I love him is because he has so many apps. We have heaps of fun together on Flipboard, Twitter, signing Autographs, watching Netflix, playing games. I can’t see myself without him and I don’t know if I’m ready to date anyone else. I’m planning to clean my desk this weekend. I do not like having a messy work area. It clouds my head trapping my thoughts from getting through my fingers to the screen. I’ve been saving these gifts to treat myself. These need to be dealt with. These need to be played with. Tonight I’m heading to the Spoke Club for Mark’s fall preview. Picked out some really great items from Mark’s last year before I went to NZFW. Impressed with how well they’ve washed, worn & stood up to my busy lifestyle. Remember: You are younger today than you will ever…

INDY.

Made this video for Dad a in 2009. I watched practice from the fence. I love the sound of those cars. Had longer hair then too. Do you ever read the archives? This weekend I am super stoked to be checking out the HONDA INDY. Friday is FREE DAY and anyone can go. If you’ve never been or want an excuse to leave work early, you’re welcome. There’s also a Tweetup on Saturday. The charming & good looking (;)) team at Honda Canada gave me a pair of GOLD passes for the weekend including Paddock Passes for extra awesome access. Keri & I are gonna go make make some vids. Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend. P.S. Today I found out that in 2000 LiLo played a character named CASEY STUART in Life-Size with Tyra Banks. Uh, that’s totes my name toooooo guys. OMGAAAAAAAAAHHHH.

What if they call me a “Social Media Expert”? UPDATE: They did.

So, Rockstars don’t call themselves ‘Rockstars’ but it’s cool cause everyone else calls them, which is what makes them rockstars. Say Rockstar one more time in that sentence haha. Do you know a ‘real’ Social Media Expert, am I one? I have heaps of Tweets/Blog/Posterous/Facebook/Skype/Flickr/Blogger/Google+/YouTube and more but that term is usually associated with douchebags. I’m not a douchebag. Catch me on eTalk tonight for the Royal Tour coverage (starts at 7pm on CTV). Got to tape in the studio, I was standing in front of that eTalk sign above. Didn’t get a photo of us shooting. Doh. I used to work at CTV behind the scenes so was a pretty rad to be back today in front of the camera. Saw a bunch of old colleagues and was dressed to impress.  Wore high shoes, nicely tailored dress, hair up, bow, red lipstick. Zing! I hope I come across smart and cool. I really hope I don’t look bad. (It’s nerve wracking ok!!) I’ll be at an event this evening so I won’t see it until I get home. I’m not sure how long it will be either. My segment is about the big role social media is playing in Will & Kate’s visit, the photo one of our MP’s posted of them (below) and the Royal Tour app. The Royal Tour App is one of the most popular in Canada right now. The Blue Man Group were also there this morning. I touched a BLUE MAN! They use blue oil paint and it is very messy. I had some on my finger. One of the BMG guys was pretty cute, well, for a Blue guy. 😛 I love being in front of the camera. I really want to be on TV. Look what they did to C. Perez, Senior Producer. He got…

Tech | Social Media Day -Toronto is one of most most social in the world.

I’d like to think I had something to do with that. I kid, I kid. We’re SO online and our  Social media Day meetup is SO BIG that Mashable wrote about us today. We Toronto peeps know how to have fun. Get social baby. Props to Michael Nus & Dan Levy for putting this together. Last year I spoke about running the social media for MuchMusic & MTV Canada & this year I’m speaking about building a personal brand. Over 350 people are attending so it’s gonna, kinda a big deal. Wish Mum was here to see me in action. I’m sure someone will have on video. Last year I was JUST getting into speaking and has my hands in my pockets the whole time. Won’t do that again. What am I going to wear? I should really have planned this out. Hope to meet some new peeps & will for sure see a bunch of familiar faces. Looking forward to it. If you have any questions, ask away! Barbie & I jus LOLed to hard at these two videos. I was telling her a story and could not for the life of me get the words out and she said I reminded her of this kid. Then, by luck we stumbled upon this GEM! Do you remember doing this at Canada’s Wonderland as a kid. I do. I wish I had my video. I was in dance and the time but no way I could beat this awesome kid. lemme take you for a ride

Let’s go. I’ve not been someone who loves driving until now. I love grabbing the keys and hitting the open road, going anywhere I want. Today, I visited old neighbourhoods. I’ve driven a few different cars over the last few months (Ford, GM, Toyota). Really like how this baby drives, takes corners well,  is nice on the highway, leather seats, sunroof, voice activated in-vehicle system. Looking forward to trying a hybrid car and also cars with more power.  The SE Sport Ford Fusion has a 3.5 V6 engine, this one is 2.5L & 4 cylinder. Used to live in the Annex when I first moved to TO. There was five of us at 613 Bathurst, here. Went here on a date once. There was a sign that said “This is the place” and we went inside to find a house turned into a bar. It was really fun/cute. I’d like to do it again. Been ages since I listened to 102.1 The Edge.  Was full of greatness today. Bellwoods looked bare. Am I bad for camera driving? I wasn’t texting or tweeting. Used to live on Manning at Queen too. That was a crazy time. Moving out of that hood was good. I always used to go here for breakfast. Had a birthday there once too. Sad it burned down. Love this big bag from Nella-Bella’s Melbourne Collection. Thanks TAREK! Great travel or overnight bag, fits all my gadgets, products & toiletries. Colour is great for summer, which I hope get’s here soon. P.S. Some friends just launched a blog for the startup community in Canada called Maple Butter. Maple Butter brings meaty how-to’s, case studies and reports from people on the front lines of successful startups.  FOUNDERS UNITE!

believe you can fly? i do. i can. i did. you can.

Yesterday I had my first official Jukari class with Carla at King West Fitness. Such beautiful gym. I’ve wanted to workout (in general but) at this gym for years. Very happy they’ve invited me in. Thanks guys! I can kick way higher than this but it’s not so easy with camera in your hand to balance and not look silly. Trust me. I practice. These are shoes for Jukari and great for indoor workouts. Reebok Canada hooked me up. They’re REALLY light and the mesh on the top/sides is like AC for your feet. Carla (or the teacher) yells “hup hup” and you go back & jump high or kick etc. It’s really fun. This is me in action. We are running in circles & doing half moons here. Off the ground! Frog leap. FLYING! My Monday class is advanced Jukari for dancers. I needed something harder than my first class. Basically, I really wanna work hard & sweat. To be honest, my body is hurting today in arms, abs, legs, shoulders. It’s a full body workout. Can’t wait to feel it tomorrow 🙂 Last time I was at King West Fitness for the launch of Jukari Slice.ca was there & made this video. You can see bits of me, I’m on the far left during the class. Tina asked Julie about the benefits etc. of Jukari. Post workout we used this thinger that is for Trigger Point Therapy. You roll your back legs etc on it. It hurts but feels good. Y’know, the good hurt (burn). I have some free passes so if you wanna try Jukari let me know!

if we’re doing high school again, this time i’m the teacher.

Something happened at school yesterday Mum. One of the kids posted a list of all the ‘popular’ kids and everyone started talking. Like, enough talking to make some noise.   Zach named the “Top 150 Toronto Twitter Influencers” based on Klout ranking. Here’s the top 20. Last Summer Klout published the Toronto Top 10 Influencers. The reactions reminded me of being back at PHS, I’m pretty sure a list like this was passed around there once or twice. If you’re not familiar with Klout (duh?), Klout is the Standard of Influence Online and ranks people based on their social interactions and conversations (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn). This is what the new Klout Dashboard looks like: Zach is known to stir controversy & likes to get people talking. Prime example, this tweet.  He’s also the one behind recent Canada’s Sexiest Election Candidate poll. There’s heaps of comments & reactions on his #TOTop150 post. I reckon Klout appreciates the attention, I’ve seen them get lots of it over the last year. Remember last summer when a bunch of us got free flights? That was fun. How we interact with each other on the Internet is new to everyone. I love developments in social tracking, analytics & metrics such as this. Klout has established themselves as the online standard but I reckon clout with a ‘C’ is more important in the world. Hey, there’s no ranking scale for that one, baby. Fashion people don’t care about Klout scores, some people do. Then this happened… (Up to 1,666 views at 3:33am) Uh, ohhhhhh. While this was happening I was lazing around not Tweeting. Had a real nice afternoon. Took photos of pretty flowers & coloured with rainbow Pepsi markers. Picked up my fav ever cacao quinoa cereal from Kensington. Watched Netflix. Took a nap.

Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference 2011 at University of Toronto

This weekend I hosted CUTC 2011 at U of T w/ Keri. It is Canada’s largest tech conference for Uni students in Canada. I was proud to  join the awesome list of speakers in attendance. They made this name tag for me. Thanks guys 😉 Keynote speakers included Matt Flannery (Co-founder and CEO of Kiva) , Alexis Ohanian (Co-founder of reddit.com & Founder of Breadpig), and Ariel Garten (CEO of InteraXon). This room filled up fast with about 500 students! [waves hi to the crowd] My City Lives were in part of the technology fair during lunch break. I was happy to introduce two of my fav people, Adil & Keri. Reckon I like being a speaker more than a host and look forward to more speaking engagements this year. So far I’ve spoken at U of  T to Communication Culture & Information Tech students (CCIT), Centennial College to PR students (CCPR), Fashion Connect TO and been involved with some rad events.  Couple more conferences on the horizon before the year is done!  If you think I would be informative/fun to have speak at your event, school, office or conference email [email protected]. This is cue for speaker on stage to wrap it up. Felt rude holding this! haha. Beautiful out there today! Enjoy it.

Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference – HI!

Today I’m at U of T with Keri hosting CUTC (The Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference). In a nutshell, CUTC is “passionate young students gathering to discuss and learn about the newest and coolest ways the world is changing”. Check out the speakers here (Reddit guy, Kiva founder etc.). We’re in for lots of red shirts and heaps of students. Beauty day out there though! If you’re in the audience reading this – HIIIIIIIIIIIIIII CUTC is Canada’s largest, longest-running student-organized technology conference. 2011 will be its 12th year. CUTC brings together hundreds of the country’s brightest students for two days in the heart of downtown Toronto, and gives them a chance to interact with technology in ways that school can’t. This includes incredible keynote speakers, intimate breakout sessions, and a wide variety of activities and competitions bringing together students and tech. CUTC 2011 is about sharing the stories behind changes in technology, about answering the “how” and “why” more than just the “what”.

canadian federal election 2011 – young people voting?

I watched the whole thing go down yesterday.  I love voting and feel this election was very exciting. The way information is delivered & talked about today is very different than it was during the last election in 2008. Social media was a hot topic across all media. Voter turnout was higher than previous years, although not by much. I’m interested to see youth vote number, I really hope young people came through! Someone on Twitter asked me: “What’s got you so election happy. Is that JUST you feelin’ peeps should be out and voting… ?” Yes. That is exactly it. It is very important to vote.  Hope I encouraged at least one person to get out there and cast a ballot. I liked seeing the rise in  NDP, pretty crazy they have never had more than 48 seats. I talked to a bunch of people who chose to vote that way for the very first time.  Surprised to how low the Liberal vote was. Excited to see the Green Party in the House of Commons for the first time. I only want the best for you, Canada.

spring mixer @ Harry Rosen Inc

Attended a Spring shopping party at Harry Rosen the other night. There was a band, live radio broadcast & free drinks. Julio and I had a good chuckle. I like to have fun at these fashioney things y’know. Jacket: Covet from Bicyclette, Tights: Adrian Hailwood, NZ, Bag: Nella Bella, Dress: American Apparel, Giggles: Julio These pix are from Fashion Nights (click to see their coverage of the event). These guys are The Darcy’s and they were playing live. Rumor has it Harry Rosen plans to have more ‘Underground Lounge’ events. I approve of this rumor and fully support. Aren’t they cute? Ok my pix now. I was daydreaming about an army of Casie-Bots like this… I took my very own dream boat and we shopped denim. Option numero uno: Option deux was a hit with me, the sales guy and the ladies who walked by saying “hot”. Thanks Michael Rozenwald for your help. Sold. Shopping parties are fun. Nice to see everyone & nice clothes. One of the things I did not like was this scissor wall. Freaked me right out. One of the things I did like was this D&G ‘Cry Baby’ Johnny Depp tee. As seen on Whiz Kalifa here. (Scissors, scissor hands Johnny, connection there?) Save yourself the ≈$200 price tag & to Bang-On & make one yourself. DIY FTW!

Beautiful Alchemy – Nick Von K, New Zealand #video

When I was in NZ last year I met Nick Von K., designer of accessories for people with awesome lifestyles. Heaps of rad things. I browsed the collection and picked out this super sharp claw; silver cast eagle claw on silver chain. It will cut you. He just created a this video for his new line Beauful Alchemy. He told me “the film is about transformation; how when inspired, you can be transformed, and your inspiration can take new forms and take on a life of its own.” I like this idea. The video does have one boob shot in it, this is your NSFW warning. I would seriously love to own/give you all of these pieces. There are no stockists in Canada yet but I would LOVE to see some, at least one right here in Toronto. This is Nick, you can find him on Twitter or at nvk.co.nz.

i totally had a dude where’s my car moment

No seriously. I’m not used to driving a car downtown. I love to walk and text and take photos and look at stuff. Yes, driving is fun but YES driving downtown in the middle of the day can make you a crazy person. A CRAZY PERSON. I feel like a tourist driving. Yesterday Toyota Canada gave me a Matrix to drive for the week. I’m not sure why I think this, but I have a feeling that they got it to me by using a car moving company similar to CarsRelo as it was the easiest way to do it. However they delivered it to me though, I was so excited to try it out. It’s a fun car. The ability to just get up and go is awesome. For example, today I had brunch at my Sister’s house:) Back to the story… Today my car was towed. I got it yesterday. “There’s a first for everything! #casiefail (@ JP Towing) http://4sq.com/i1vsxd“ Stop laughing. I thought I was fine where I parked but I was wrong. I left the office and was chatting away on the phone as I walked back to the car on King Street just after 5:15pm. I parked at 2:45. You can’t park there 4-6pm. My friend on the phone witnessed a mini panic. Where’s my car? OMG. All the cars were gone. It took me less than 15min to find it at JP nyc towing company and in about an hour I had it back. Thank you Shelly for driving me. The towing people were really nice and despite that it cost $180, it was kinda fun. I originally thought they’d put the cars on tandem trailers to transport them to the towing company but I later realised it wouldn’t have fit on one! I’m…

The thing that really is blowing my mind is… #japan

I closed my blinds last night and got to thinking about Japan. In bed with iPad & Android, I looked outside, the lake was calm.  I said goodnight to Twitter. I don’t usually do that, I often leave like an irish goodbye. I said goodbye because I love my friends and in the back of my head I know that so many people in Japan woke up Friday morning and never got a chance to say goodbye. They woke up to their houses and lives right fucked up. I can only imagine that happening. There is no word to explain how is makes me feel when I watch those videos over and over. It’s like a movie but it’s not a movie, its real. The world trade centre, that was real. We all remember that day. I remember lots of other stuff in my life but that WTC stands out as something totally monumental, like Japan. I will never get any of these images out of my head.
