Holiday Mode

This time is year is so hectic, ahhhhh! Lots of running around from now till Friday! Today mum is coming down to help me with some office elfing, aka getting presents ready and delivering to clients. This weekend at home was so nice, a great start to holiday mode. With Christmas on a Friday this year, I think it’ll be easier to really take some time to relax. I’m totally in in love with these little sweaters Telus sent over to help get into official #HolidayMode. The entire campaign is great. [vine id=”imeeM6z0dHx”] Do you know a tablet Dad? [iframe id=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/R37Cx8QwDtg”] I probably spend the most time on my gadgets around my family but this holiday season, my goal is to spend less time staring at my phone and more face-time with the ones I love. I like putting on the (digital) fireplace, reading a book, or simply relaxing on the couch and staring at it. There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort. 

Have been laying low and trying to slow down for the holidays this week. Monday I was at the office and took a little test drive w/ Chevrolet in the new Cruze. Title is a quote by Jane Austin, today is her birthday. This is my fav coffee shop in our neighbourhood, Cafe Neon. Walked over this morning and grabbed two coffees, for myself. I’m working from home today and wanna be prepared. Had a chuckle to myself wondering if that is a weird thing to do but don’t really care if it is! Quite warm out still, it’s nice walking weather. ? Started reading Makers by Cory Doctorow yesterday, someone sent it to me in the mail. If it was you, please lmk. I am loving it and it’s crazy how it was published 2009 yet foreshadows the future and right now. Reading before bed helps me wind down the mind. Continuous scrolling made me forget how much I love turning pages. Heading home to hang out and get a tree with mum this weekend. Can’t wait!

This Is My Life | I’m doing a thing.

I’m doing my first TEDx talk this weekend at Western University and I’m pretty excited about it. The theme is The Human Condition and I’m talking about the internet and myself.  I think you will find intersting. PLUS it’s only about 15 minutes!  I’m not sure what time I’m on stage yet but I would really love you to watch me. I don’t ask for much and I seriously  think it will be entertaining and maybe you’ll even have some feelings. Last night my sister and I went to visit mum for dinner and had an EPIC sing along to Adele on the way. I will edit the video this weekend but you might pee your pants. This is a small indication of the passion we had performing. We all went out to buy lotto tickets together and this is my mum on the phone. Is she not the cutest ever. LOVE YOU. I should check mine, imagine I won? Made me happy to see this on the table at mum’s house. I asked her for dinner to make shepherds pie and self-saucing chocolate pudding like she used to when we were kids. Nothing quite like family time and laughs around the dinner table. Since Scion Canada gave me a car this week I’m trying to make the most of every moment. I’ll make sure to tell you when my talk is on Saturday as soon as I find out. When I don’t think about it I’m kinda nervous but when I practise and start rehearsing or talking to myself in the mirror. I feel excited! Hope you’re having a great day 🙂

Spring in November, Isn’t it Lovely?

I am seriously loving this weather! I went for a bike ride this morning to get a coffee. I’ve been a bit slack on blog posts this week as I’m seriously prepping for a TEDx talk this weekend.  I’ve been giving myself a little goals of doing some work and then rewarding myself with a coffee or with lunch. I’ve got a lot to get accomplished this week! Next week I’m shooting a holiday project with a major design company and I’m really excited about it. I set a goal to do more video so I’m pretty stoked about all the collabs I’ve got coming up. [vine id=”eLKeuduiF0T”]  In other news,  I recently discovered how great dictation is on my MacBook, I can literally talk and it types everything I’m saying. I’m doing this today because I’m feeling a bit frazzled! 😛 Prepping for a speaking gig involves lots of talking to yourself. Dictation and iPhone voice memos are my saviour this week. THANKS APPLE! Scion Canada hooked me up with a car for the week, which I am LOVING! I’ve never owned my own car and it’s so freeing to just jump in an hit the open road. Today I’m heading West with my sister to have dinner with mum. [vine id=”e33FP9rUlTm”] Yesterday I went to WEST (wearables) conference at the MaRS discovery District. On this panel is one of Sean’s business partners, J.Lee Williams,  talking the future of VR in film and television. I also stopped into a preview of ALDO Spring/Summer 2016. Today is an exciting day, new tablet! This is my first post from the new gadget and I’m going to be spending heaps of time with it this weekend. I used to draw all the time with my old iPad but I gave it to mum a couple years ago. I’ve got my stylus ready to reactivate my old blog borderline artistic. Yahooo! Big thanks to Samsung for hooking a sista up. Pretty stoked about this new addition to the family. New gadget day IS THE BEST! Thank you #Samsung. Been ages since I had my own tablet, gave my 1st iPad ‘Andy Warhol’ to mum years ago. Throwback Thursday | GO JAYS GO!

I decided to make an audio of this blogpost because I have such fond memories of this day. Have a listen or scroll down to read it. The photo above is from 1992 when the Blue Jays won the world series for the first time.We’re standing on Bremner near Navy Warf facing south. I just got off the phone with mum as I was confirming a couple details about the day since I was only 10 when it happened. In the photo L-R are my sister, Bronwyn, Carly (Bomb Girls), Paige, and me. Our mums were taking classes at a school in Cambridge that day when they looked at each other and said “what are we doing, we should be there!” after hearing the Blue Jays parade was happening in Toronto. So, they each went to sign us kids out of schools (we were at different ones), met up, packed all 5 kids in the car, and drove to Toronto. We were there pretty early and got a spot at the front just outside the Skydome near gate 10. Now that mum mentioned it, I remember a police officer waiting there with us. She said crowds started to form and we got moved to the front of the group near us where the office stayed most of the afternoon. He looked at our mums like they were crazy, there were NOT many kids there. AT ALL. The parade went on forever and I remember seeing Roberto Alomar, Kelly Gruber, Joe Carter. It is one of the most fond memories of being a kid. The next day I went to school and told all the kids I was at the parade. I remember feeling cool and everything thinking mum was cool too. Last week I went to the media preview for Converse 2015 Holiday. I’ve been wearing these kicks my entire life. Mum reminded me the other day that I had them as a wee little kiddo. I’ve gone through heaps of pairs over the years and love how they change slightly, yet remain the same. This year Converse released the Converse Chuck Taylor Chuck II. The new Chuck II is nearly identical to its predecessor, with advances in construction and technology, including Nike’s Lunarlon cushioning. They’re more comfortable! This is My Life | Brunch, Preloved 20th Anniversary, Drake

Oh hello! Started the day with a preview of Toronto designer/store Preloved at the Drake Hotel with April. We hung out and had a long brunch in the cafe downstairs after.  It won’t be long till these warm days are gone so savouring every last moment possible. It’s quite warm today!  Have gotten a few compliments on this dress the last couple weeks, it’s from Forever 21! Crystal pendant (you can hardly see) was hand made by my friend Jodi (NeNeLu Handmade), I’ve been wearing it so much lately. Preloved used to have a shop across from Trinity Bellwoods park on Queen Street, this year they celebrate 20 years. Clothes are all upcycled with vintage material along with new fabric. They’ve also done collabs w/ Roots, Holt Renfrew, The Bay. There were lots of cozy items there today. I love wool sweaters, warm mits, super long socks. Shop the 20th Anniversary collection here. Have you heard this yet? In other news, say hi to my mum and dad! I went to my hometown yesterday for a funeral, but on a positive note, got to hang out with these two awesome people and more. We were about to go our seperate ways when I had to stop-drop-selfie. They’re getting pretty good at it after all these years. LOVE YOU MUM AND DAD. Hope you’ve having a great week. TIFF | Premiere of ‘The Meddler’ & Festival Music House  

Yesterday I went to the premiere of The Meddler starring Susan Sarandon, JK Simmons, and Rose Bryne. It was so good, laughed, cried. Great movie to take your mum to when it comes out in theatres in a few weeks.         Later I the day I saw Brave Shores, Allie X, and Dear Rouge at Festival Music House. Allie X was amazing. I’m in love now.     Finished the night off at a new spot called CANDYLAND for the world premiere party of GUILTY. I was really excited to check it out because 1) it’s not open to the public yet 2) they have circus style performers (apparently) and cirque-type acts. It was ok. Kinda disappointed tbh. Will give them another chance though!  In other news, I’m pooped. After tonight’s event I’m ready to hibernate for winter. ? ? CASIE
