Give the Gift of Giving

My friend Andrew is doing amazing things this year! Daniel is 20 years old and really making a difference in our world. Check out his inspiring interview on Daytime. The most touching part I found in the interview is that he sent out messages to about 15 people and went off to school and work and later that day over 1,000 people had been invited to attend the Networking for a Cause event. As I have shown with my actions and will continue to, it only takes one voice to start a movement. Another reason to watch, Daniel has an adorable accent!! To RSVP to Networking for a Cause to benefit families in need and the Hospice of Peel go here. You will have the opportunity to speed network with other business people, entrepreneurs and professionals and support a great cause. Included in the $20 minimum donation is a drink ticket, hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to network with other conscious and compassionate business people. All the proceeds will go towards the inaugural Give the Gift of Giving program which will use the donations to help families affected by terminal illness enjoy a Christmas dinner or buy gifts for the children of the family. Read the stories of hope for the families we are reaching out to! For more information visit the Give the Gift of Giving site ♥

beautiful losers – make something from nothing

As kids you write, create, draw, you make things. I was constantly making things with Mum and my sister at the kitchen table or in the garage with Dad. I painted, sculpted, drew, cut, copy, paste, glue, paper mache, you name it, I was doing it. This film is a collection of stories from artists who all felt at times that they didn’t fit in and now have shifted their ideology from being nerds, or weirdo’s to cool nerds and creative people. I’m waiting on response to see about showings in Canada. This movie ‘celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation.‘ Beautiful Losers film trailer from beautifullosersfilm on Vimeo. “In the early 1990’s a loose-knit group of like minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the “establishment” art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.” “Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories. It speaks to themes of what happens when the outside becomes “in” as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today’s youth.”

barry manalow rocks the eighties

Tonight, I watched Will & Grace and it was the episode when Will is in line for tickets the one night show of Barry’s Christmas Special. Grace gets mad when she sees that her mum ditched Hanukkah shopping to hang out with Jack. Karen finds comfort with the Fanilows in line for tickets. ET Canada was happy to have Mr. Manilow on their program this evening also. He is releasing a new album “The Greatest Songs of the Eighties,” due November 25 on Arista. It’s just amazing how youthful and soft his face looks. I browsed through some photos of Barry and maybe I found one way to stay looking young and have a pretty voice, a dried flowered bud of the Cannabis Sativa plant. It has visible THC crystals, which indicate high potency.

One of my Fav Things. Found it at a garage sale on Playter Crescent around Danforth, my old hood. The Mum at the house worked on movie sets and had heaps of unused costume shiite. It was totally rad. I wonder where this jem may have traveled!!!: “She just couldn’t relax. She knew one day she would own enough clothesand everything in her life would be better.”

As a Kid

My mum always taught me, just because you don’t have money doesn’t mean you can’t compete. It merely means you must be more creative. Andy, says to think rich and look poor. So, with these two influences I find myself thinking rich, and finding creative ways to make money all the while looking stylish yet competitive. Thanks for the influence.

1992 Fashion = Love & Passion

Last week I picked up this book from a second hand book store on Queen Street. As a child I often spent time sewing with mum at the kitchen table. She used to make all of our dance costumes for competitions and recitals. As for myself, I’d come up with some interesting fashion designs and sometimes dress up my little sister in my ‘unique’ styles. The book has a great introduction to designing & drawing and the best part, it is from 1992! Second hand book stores are so full of life and wonder, you can go on an adventure, travel in time or visit countries & royals. I’m looking forward to the winter to bust out the sewing machine and create some vintage classic, 1992 inspired pieces!

No Seaguls – Just Eagles

It really does not matter what you have, what you had, want, or what you own. You are whoever you want to be. How you perceive yourself has the biggest impact on how others perceive you, this is my belief and something I live. It was my dear mum that ingrained in me, “just because you don’t have money, doesn’t mean you can’t compete, you just have to be more creative”. Luckily for myself, I’ve always been rich in that department. The book in this post is one that I really, truly love and admire. It is written by Paul Arden one of the world’s top advertising guys who comes from a great career with Saatchi & Saatchi. This is not merely a ‘book‘, this is a bible for the creative, those driven to succeed who couldn’t even ever imagine what it’s like to ‘think inside the box‘. It has taught me tools to succeed in the world, to dream the unimaginable, to break the rules, and make my own path, leaving trails for others to follow. This book is about stretching the mind and thinking about where you want to be in the world. Do you want to be well known? The best in your field? Your country? Best in the world? Or best in the universe? You decide. I know where I want to be.

I am made of light; I am made of stars.

Mum gave me the book “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz many years ago. I have read it once before and recently picked it up again as I found myself looking for the same light that I once had. It is truly amazing when you read something so powerful as this book, yet, the amazement and self discovery is amplified when you bring yourself back to read it again. I have long since been on a spiritual journey, learning, reading, and evolving. I find that as I grow older I am somewhat of a life butcher, trimming the fat away, getting rid, and really savoring the good things. I have included a short excerpt from the book that outlines what the four agreements. I encourage the purchase of this book, in part because my copy is so important to me and well used that I refuse to lend it out! The four agreements are great to put up in places that you see them often to remind yourself of a better, more fulfilled & spirited life that you can live. Enjoy! xo Case The Four Agreements Be Impeccable With Your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love. Don’t Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the Don’t Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this…
