Celebrating Canada’s 150th w/ the #TDCommonGround Project

This post is sponsored by TD and the TD Common Ground Project. Earlier this year I joined TD at The Harbourfront Centre on one of the nicest days in February to kick off the TD Common Ground Project. In recognition of Canada’s 150th this year, TD has joined forces with local organizations to help create a legacy by revitalizing over 150 green spaces to bring us all together. ????? How It All Started  Last fall, TD invited organizations across Canada to apply for funding from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation as a part of the #TDCommonGround Project. Now, they’ve picked 150+ local community‑driven initiatives to receive funding and help their goals become a reality. Projects range from science projects to trail building and heaps more including a new pedestrian walkway to Waterloo Park (Waterloo), improvements to an outdoor public library and rec space in Halifax, a 4.6-hectare green area in Montreal, and an outdoor celebration area & pollinator habitat right here in GTA (Scarborough). Learn more about individual projects by visiting commongroundproject.td.com.  ?   City of Toronto: The TD Pollinator Engagement Centre @ Morningside Park The Toronto / Scarborough flagship piece focuses on the revitalization of Morningside Park and they’re already planning! The park is an Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) and the new engagement center will feature an outdoor classroom and community celebration area, as well as a pollinator habitat. GTA residents will be able to go to learn about the park, attend the annual festivals, go to weekend seminars on local plants, and take part in stewardship programs. Schools who visit the park will learn about Morningside Park and its connection to the Scarborough community as well as pollination and how pollinators relate to the natural systems of the park. I love this initiative and I’m so happy to be working on another…

2017 Canadian International AutoShow w/ @VWCanada

Recently I went to the AutoShow with VW to check out what’s new for 2018. It was a PA day so people were invited to bring kids and pets along for the special event. I documented it all with my Snapchat Spectacles and they were a hit. You know how much I love tech and these things are rad, watch the video here. I’ve always loved cars, we spent heaps of time in the garage and hot rod workshop w/ dad growing up . It’s incredible how far car tech has come! Volkswagen is known for great performance, reliability, and safety, ‘a good German car’ as I’ve heard so many times. We were looking at the 2018 Tiguan Redesign, 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, and 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf. There was also another little one I just loved, scroll down to see! The event was hosted by Amber Mac, George Pimentel, Afiya Francisco, and Heather Davis. Amber of course talked tech aspects of the new cars, George took photos, Afiya talked about style and how your car fits your lifestyle and aesthetic. Heather is a family road trip expert and she shared how the 2018 Atlas was a great family car for travel, seats 7! The 2018 Tiguan Redesign is a great car for people who like adventure.  I like the aesthetic of this car, it’s sleek but tough, you can tow a set of seadoos or boat (up to 5500 pounds) and pack all kinds of stuff in the boot. Perfect for #cottagelife!  My fav was the VW Beetle Dune. A few people said this was a perfect car for me. I love a cute little convertible! It’s actually quite spacious with 4 seats and enough room for a couple suitcases in the trunk. One of the cool new things they launched at the AutoShow was the…

Work Hard. Play Hard. Sleep Easy. Join The #DreamWaterHoliday Twitter Party Wednesday 8pm! $500+ IN prizes

Nothing like a good sleep, eh? Last month was really hectic with lots of travel and tbh, it made me so tired. Different time zones, hotels, sleep patterns, it really tuckers you out. Wednesday at 8pm I’m hosting Twitter party w/ Dream Water Canada and I’d love you to join. We’ve got $500 in prizes including a $250 spa package. We could all use a little pampering this time of year!   Tickets are free and I’m asking you register your Twitter handle so we can contact winners with no stress.  Powered by Eventbrite I usually travel with melatonin to regulate my sleep/help me feel refreshed and this summer I tried out another herbal supplement called Gaba Gaba. A couple weeks ago I was sent a few samples of Dream Water which contains both supplements and 5-HTP that helps them all work better together. The first time I tried it, I noticed I started to feel sleepy in about 10-15 and was out like a light in I’m guessing 20 (idk I fell asleep lol). Dream Water is a tiny into a 2.5oz shot with the ingredients below and sweeter. I first saw it in the USA but you can find it here now at Shoppers, Walmart, and select retailers. If you have any experience with Dream Water or questions LEAVE A COMMENT! It feels so nice to say that after not having comments for over a year. It’s like the phone lines are open again!   Tonight I’m going to see Ross Petty’s ‘Sleeping Beauty‘ then going home to drink some Dream Water. ??

Tech | Canada’s Leading Digital Media: NextMedia + Digi Awards 2016

Last week I was a speaker at NextMedia, Canada’s leading digital media conference. the 2 day conference focusses on creation, distribution, and monetization of digital media content and technology. Our panel, moderated by Amber Mac, was Blurred Lines: Best Practices for Disclosing Paid Content. I’ve mentioned it a few times how this is a hot topic. My thoughts are that if you are working with someone or got the product/thing as an in-kind donation or gift,, just say so. If you always work on things you genuinely like, being authentic is easy. This isn’t a great photo but it was a memorable moment. Jake said people who will just work for any brand and do it for the money are ‘brand whores’. It’s hard to trust someones opinion if they don’t really have one and they’re just slingin’ stuff at you all the time. Discussing the #BlurredLines on #Disclosure of #Paid #Content via new #Advertising Standards #Rules ☠️ #nextMEDIA16 #handshake A photo posted by Kevin September (@septembersphere) on Nov 10, 2016 at 7:49am PST Amber asked me to be a presenter at the Digis which is the award show closing out the conference.  In it’s 10th year, the awards celebrate Canada’s most successful digital media companies and creators. I wasn’t nervous at all until it came time for rehearsal and I had to read a teleprompter. Which, by the way, was easier than I thought! I presented the award for Best Branded Content. The winner was Lilly & The Snowman from Cineplex. In other news, I left getting a dress to the last minute. So, I popped over to my go-to girls at Studio Fitzroy to rent something. Remember in the summer when I blogged about their dress rentals? That biz was SO SUCCESSFUL they’ve opened a dress rental spot on Dundas West.…

Twitter is Very Much Alive and Here is Some Motivation

I’ve had a really great time on Twitter the last 24hours. Sometimes people say ‘Twitter is dead’ but that goes right out the damn window when there’s a live event. I love twitter the most when we share moments like this. Nothing brings us closer than live event tweeting! #WorldSeries — CASiE STEWART (@casiestewart) November 3, 2016 The Twitter chat Daniel and I hosted with Kobo was a trending topic in Toronto and then Canada last night earning 3 million+ impressions. Then, after the chat I tuned in for the World Series Game 7 to see the Cubs win and HOLY COW what a game. I am happy the Cubs won bc my friend Tony Pierce aka @busblog is a die hard fan. ⚾️ ? This morning I watched Cam, Head of Comms at Twitter, chat about the election on CTV. I felt like last night was a preview of the tweet storm about to go down on Tuesday night when the US gets a new President. I’ve been invited by Twitter Canada to watch it at their office and I can’t wait. Casie Stewart Live from The Nest! I’ve shared my love for live event tweeting for over six years from my days tweeting Jersey Shore & The Hills at Much/MTV, to every award show since, the Olympics, Superbowl, The Bachelorette, and more. It’s gonna be really intense. Looking forward to watching the election at @twittercanada on Tues. @cam_gordon on @CTVNews talking what's trending! https://t.co/Q1XhePrdSj — CASiE STEWART (@casiestewart) November 3, 2016 I just watched this video andI’d like to thank my old friend (and apparently new neighbour!) Christine Estima for this performance. I’m spending the afternoon writing and organizing the book I’ve been working on because THIS YEAR I AM DAMN DETERMINED TO DO IT. I signed up for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and…

?? Apples to Apples: Visiting an Orchard w/ Subway Canada

On Friday afternoon I went to an orchard north of the city with bloggers from across Canada thanks to Subway Canada. We picked apples and sampled some of their new menu items coming in October. We were greeted with a cute welcome sign and chilled Izze fruit drinks as arrived. Lucky for us the morning rain cleared by the time we arrived and it was a lovely day. I hadn’t been to an orchard since I was a kid. Our first part of the adventure was a hayride and if you were following my posts in real time, I was really into it. I even made a song about it. [vine id=”5vO6Vxg5FYE”] After our tour of the orchard we sat down for lunch. It’s just started getting a wee bit cold and thankfully our hosts were prepared with blanks to keep warm. A video posted by ? C A S I E S T E W A R T (@casiestewart) on Sep 23, 2016 at 10:35am PDT The new fall menu at SUBWAY features a new Carved Turkey sandwich that will launch October 11th in Canada.  Just after thanksgiving ? Executive Chef, Chris Martone made us a delicious salad to start our seated meal with walnut encrusted goat cheese, it was so good. Both Will and I ordered a second plate!  The new sandwich. My favourite part of the day was picking apples. I also went into a corn maze, got lost for a minute, and went on the swings. Later that day I went to the cottage for the weekend with Sean and Emily. On Saturday I made 3 pies with the apples I picked. Two of the pies were a combo apple pie/apple crisp. I highly recommend this recipe I found on Pinterest. They were honestly SO GOOD. I’ll be bringing 2 to the…

Guilty Pleasures! ? Bachelorette Canada & Wine! ?

Tuesday this week was the premiere of Bachelorette Canada and I watched and tweeted along with the rest of the country (it was trending!). Yes, I know these ‘looking for love‘ shows are a bit silly but I GOD DAMNIT just love them for the commentary and chatting away on Twitter. I started show tweeting when I worked at MUCH & MTV 6 years ago, it really takes the TV watching experience to the next level. If you could have a glass of wine with any of the bachelors, who would it be? #BacheloretteCA #TogetherWithTwoOceans pic.twitter.com/dnmALJtMC2 — TwoOceansWineCA (@twooceanswineCA) September 14, 2016 In case you didn’t notice during the commercial breaks, Two Oceans Wine is one of the sponsors and they graciously sent me a couple bottles & goodies to enhance my viewing experience. I’ve partnered with them to share my thoughts on Twitter and the blog throughout the season. The things is, wine goes really well with show tweeting. It’s like hanging out at a party, making new friends, laughing, all the while sitting on your couch with a blanket and snacks. I would say I probably posted 20+ tweets during the 1.5 hour premiere!  #BacheloretteCA Premiere Fav Moments This is Canada’s first season of The Bachelorette, where Janine Poplak (from Vancouver) met 20 dudes, and gave out 15 roses. Some of my fav moments from the premiere below. Bachelor Kevin P. played a little tune on his ukulele and I quite enjoyed it. Side note, I have a uke and my goal is to learn to play by Christmas. Whoa Kevin + ukulele that was cute #bacheloretteca #TwoOceansWineCA — CASiE STEWART (@casiestewart) September 14, 2016 Her dress was gorgeous. Look at that long train! ???? 2016 MTV VMA Twitter Takeover w/ @dippitydogel ???

I really love award show tweeting. I joined Twitter in 2008 and since then my experience watching almost everything on TV has been enhanced. Hello, The Bachelor? In 2009 I joined Much/MTV Canada as their resident social media wizard and tweeted award shows, Jersey Shore, MMVAs, MMVAs and everything in between. This weekend I’m doing a Twitter Takeover of the Dippity-Do Gel account for the MVT VMAs. They have heaps of fun hair chalk I’ve been using since last year to make my hair violet, pink, blue, etc. It’s great bc washes out with shampoo. ??

1,776 Steps! Did The CN Tower Climb for WWF Canada

I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do the CN Tower climb and this month the opportunity came to climb with CLIF Bar for WWF Canada. I asked April to join me and we conquered it in 23 minutes! That’s 144 official flights plus the few it takes to get to the first numbered stairs and then a couple extra flights to the glass floor lookout. Thank you to the @ClifBar team for feeding our climbers and getting them warmed up! #CNTowerClimb #FeedYourAdventure pic.twitter.com/f6XnRuu6Hy — WWF-Canada (@WWFCanada) April 16, 2016

Spooktacular! Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland

I really love halloween. I mean, I love it so much I take every opportunity to celebrate it during the month of October I can. I visited Canada’s Wonderland for Halloween Haunt on October 2nd and it was so much fun. See my post on the Canada’s Wonderland blog here or scroll away. My sister and I have been dressing up for halloween together our whole lives so when I was invited to #CWhaunt there was no one else I’d rather go with. We  headed to the park just in time for nightfall. You’re not realllllly supposed to go in costume but we put on zombie faces so enhance the night. We started in the VIP Pre-Haunt lounge making our plan for the night.  We had Fright Lane passes which outlined all the haunted houses and allowed us to skip the line. The Skeleton Key is for getting into secret rooms at the haunted houses for extra scares. The eerie sounds of scary music had us a bit spooked so we decided to ride the coasters to get our jitters out. First up, Levithan. Having a Fast Pass made our night spoooooktacular as we were able to zip past lines and jump on the rides right away.  We sat down beside two young men who looked a *little* creeped by our makeup choices. After we screamed our heads off flying through the night sky, one of the guys said “your makeup is a bit messed up”. My sister turned to him ‘that’s because I’m dead!” We laughed loud and hilariously like The Joker and headed to the next ride. I was really impressed with the performances we caught on the stage. The scary looking man below was whirling around this box with flames inside. It was amazing. next up,  4 skeletons did am impressive trampoline act jumping to and from…

Fashion | Love My Hood + Bench Canada AW15

I was invited into Bench Canada this week to check out the latest collection for fall winter. Was pleasantly surprised to see more fashion vs. athletic wear and less things with a big logo. I’ve been doing things with them since  2011 so this was fun.  The girls in the store know me by now and I have a blast picking out clothes There is in fact a bench there. I think it’s new. And a selfie mirror. HIIIIII! I got all these things. Pants, shirt, sweater. I think they’ll be versatile pieces to mix with dressier items, layers, etc. Glasses are Polette.Phone case is Ted Baker. Necklace is by Shop for Jayu, remember I was in their look book a couple months ago? Oh heyyy, looks like somebody had a make out. Netflix? Chill? Right now if you spend over $150 or more you get 1 of 3 bags. Bench hooked me up with a nice gift card so when I got my total I didn’t feel too shabby shilling out. Gift for BF ✔️ A few years ago I hosted a room in the BHD Gifting Suites on MMVA weekend. It was fun. I hung out all day while celebs & media rolled through receiving gifts and hanging out. This post from 2011 has heaps of people you will recognize – Liz from Much/eTalk, Tyrone, Jesse Giddings, Jay Strut, Lissa Monet, Brock, Carly, Kardinal. Last September I had a shoot with Bench Canada + my fav fall items. Remember this? Maybe we’ll do that again. Events | A Toronto Scavenger Hunt w/ Ford Canada

Oh haiiiii! That’s me in the new Ford Escape w/ CBC news anchor Peter Mansbridge  in the background. The scavenger hunt I did on the weekend called for a photo with a famous person. They didn’t specify if it had to be a famous person IRL, y’know? We started out at Rock Lobster Queen East with a bunch of bloggers for some eats. There, we got a tour of the features including Ford SYNC 3 and AppLink. It was my first time having brunch at Rock Lobster and the food was delish. We were two of the first to arrive and it was so fun seeing the blog crew arriving. Lots of hugs and screaming and laughter. I’d worked with most of the crew hired to shoot the day (via 1188), so we all had a chuckle when I walked in! The rest of the afternoon had us touring the city with a list of tasks to accomplish before meeting to tally the winner our last stop. We ended up having a car to ourselves, so we sang really loud to Justin Bieber and the playlist Ford made us on Spotify. This is one of Toronto’s weird houses. It’s covered in dolls and children’s toys. It’s super creepy. The owner once won the best garden. Seriously. For more photos and a few close-ups, see my blog post from August 2009 ‘we have hundreds of McDonalds toys‘. Thanks for the nightmares! #thehunt pic.twitter.com/DO2sgqPFZ5 — CASIE STEWART ☀️ (@casiestewart) August 29, 2015 Another task on the list was snapping a photo of the Escape in one of Toronto’s many graffiti alleys. I love this one of Kate Moss in a mock Supreme shirt. It’s located King & Portland behind Portland Variety. There’s heaps more graffiti alley art around King/Queen West, see more here. Know where this house is? Well, this half-house…
