These Are The Vines of Our Lives

I loved Twitter’s Vine app. I used it heaps when it first came out and have 200+ thousand views and 400+ videos. Yesterday Twitter announced it’s shutting the app down (and cutting 9% of global staff). This is a good reminder, it’s not about the platform, it’s about the content. As someone who’s been on the internet, making stuff for over a decade I’ve seen a lot of apps have their rise to fame, go viral, get a huge user base, then die. Lets look back at 12secondstv, I was one of their top users and in 2010 they got bought by AOL and closed up shop. I made short videos of almost everything I was doing and posted them on the app. Around the same time I’d been an active user on Dailybooth, a website where you shared a photo of yourself everyday (mostly from your computer webcam). When Instagram came out, nobody needed Dailybooth anymore, there was a new app with filters right in your phone. Dailybooth died in 2012. Anyone remember Viddy? I hung out with the founders in 2013 at CES in Vegas and joined the app right away. It was the video version of Instagram! Justin Bieber and bunch of celebrities used it all the time. Then, one day, Instagram added video. It was game changer. In months Viddy was done. Tech | Another One Bites the Dust: RIP Rdio

The list of social sharing services I’ve seen disappear over the last five years keeps getting longer. A bit of sadness for Rdio this week as it’s been purchased by Pandora for $75M and filed for Chapter 11. I’ve been using Rdio since early 2012 when it came to Canada after I was introduced to it at SXSW. Around them I took part in a round table to discussion on the future of music streaming and music piracy with a bunch of music execs and media. Canada.com covered the session (here). After my free year of Rdio was up, I continued to pay $9.99 for the service the last few years, with my own money. Rdio was there for countless road trips, dance parties, summers on the dock, sing-alongs in the boat, and Christmas parties. I made heaps of playlists and Rdio has been part of all my fun the last few years. I mentioned it as one of my fav apps in interviews w/ ApexPR & Mad Hatter Tech. It’s crazy how attached you become to a service, how integrated it becomes in your life. I was really sad when 12seconds.tv was purchased by AOL and dissolved, felt heartbreak over Dailybooth, and another wave of sadness when Viddy shut down. Transfer Your Rdio Playlists to Apple Music Today I’ve been transferring my Rdio playlists to Apple Music. TBH I don’t mind Apple Music but I really loved Rdio. I decided to fork over the $4.99 to have movetoapplemusic.com do the work of moving my playlists over from Rdio. Luckily, I think Apple Music will be around for a while. I am really feeling this 90’s hip hop & R&B playlist from the commercial with Mary J. Blige. You’ll love it too, heaps of good jamz!

THIS: Vine App from Twitter on Coral TV

Last week on Coral TV I talked about one of my fav new apps. It’s called Vine and it’s from Twitter. Vine allows you to shoot and edit at the same time by touching the screen with your finger. Once created, you upload the six second loop and share to Vine, Twitter, or Facebook. I love that the Vine can be viewed within the Twitter app. I made a GIF of the episode because I love making GIFs. I’ve been part of the short video evolution over the last few years with 12seconds.tv, Keek, Viddy, GIF apps, and now Vine. It’s amazing to be a creator when technology is always changing. Goodby Dailybooth, I loved you for years.

Today Twitter announced they’ll be allowing us (users) to download our ENTIRE TWEET HISTORY before the New Year. For me, that’s almost 100,000 tweets! I’ve been publishing the Internet for almost a decade and it’s hard to imagine all the things I’ve posted. This month, Dailybooth, the OG photo sharing service that helped kick off this thing we call ‘social media’ announced they are shutting down. If you have photos on DB you can DL them until Dec. 31, 2012. After that, they’ll be gone. Dailybooth was THE original photo sharing service when Twitter came out. I posted a photo of myself nearly every single day from January 2009-January 2012. The photo updated to the top right corner of my blog showing a new face each day. I hardly had any tattoos back then, nobody had a million followers, and ‘social media’ wasn’t a ‘thing’…yet. It was the experience I loved most about DB. Logging in and seeing familiar faces, comments, making friends. I hung out w/ Zolloc (Hayden), my friend from Dailybooth for the first time IRL about a month ago. We’d known each other for years. He was visiting Toronto for Nuit Blanche so I showed him around my fav hood, Queen West and Trinity Bellwoods. The community at Dailybooth was always so positive. This news made me sad. Why do I feel so romantic about a photo sharing service? I took all 756 photos, added music and made a massive vid with them all. The video is coming soon. It’s five minutes of Casie, five whole minutes. Observations? I make a lot of different faces, I wear a lot of hats (actual hats), I travel, I don’t get sick often, I smile most days, I like to have fun. It brought back so many memories. Lifestyle Trends This Week – June 2, 2012

I publish a lot of things on the Internet. I’ve been told is it’s hard to keep up with’. To me it is art. I have an obsessive compulsive obsession to make/build art/things/memories. Documentation is addicting. I’ve had days without Internet, I start scratching, yelling, freaking out, no just kidding, I do get antsy around 4pm. It happens more in weekends, sometimes I don’t feel like it then I miss it. My favorite social media sites right now are Instagram, Pinterest, Viddy and I use Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare to share them. This is what happened this week. Yellow and red were hot colours on my Instagram and Pinterest A Viddy I posted of a wizard guy with a fushingi ball was on the ‘whats’s hot page’. I used to go CRAZY using 12seconds.tv years ago, similar thing but not as awesome. Viddy is like Instagram for videos! It has filters, music, and a 15 second time clock. My profile is viddy/casiestewart. It’s intrgrated with Facebook timeline if you have’t noticed. I really love the DIY projects from Honestly WTF. I pinned this gorgeous Louis Vuitton studded collar from the 2012 Cruise Collection and a couple weeks ago I (started) one just like it. Mine’s not ready to come out yet. Weather is gloomy. About to do some work around the house and vaguely movies, currently on something about British school girls in boarding school on Cosmo. The sun came out for a few seconds, captured its soul. If you are still in the dark ages with an old phone you can browse any user’s Instaphotos in Statigram. Barbie made brekky. Beauty! Get off the couch or become the couch, do what you want! A Video Version of Instagram – VIDDY YO.

Do you know it? Viddy. It’s a video app that integrates with FB timeline and the super short videos (00:15s) are perfect for sharing mini moments. I used to be the #1 Canadian user of 12Seconds TV back before it was bought by AOL. RIP 12seconds 🙁 I love the fun of raw, unedited mini vids that post right to Twitter/FB. There’s all kinds of ‘Instagram‘ style filters you can add to jazz up your Viddy-OHs. I hung out with some of the team and Evan from Viddy at CES in Vegas earlier this year. caribbean gal gon’ feel de vibe

Its a huge party in the lot at work for Caribbana called “Feel de Vibe“. Took a break in my day to check it out and get some vibes groovin. I’ve stayed away from Caribbana the last few years but gonna go this year. Its the largest Caribbean festival outside, well, the Caribbean. There was some drama with it being not so safe but I think’ we ‘ gon be ok now. The lines for food in the lot were huge so I popped over to Ackee Tree my most fav spot for some island food. The lunch special is $6.95 and so damn good. I like to dress the part for events, I’m sure you knew that by now. Today at work is going pretty good. Starting to ‘feel da vibe’ there and get ‘tings all done in a day without stressing. Feels good. Looking forward to #loserkaraoke tonight. Gon’ sing a Kiwi tune I reckon! OMG I loooooove steel drums. GRAPHIC: the smirnoff experience

Monday night I had the pleasure of attendng one of TO’s most exclusive events ar ARD Events (my fav venue). It was the who’s who of social, media & fashion. Everyone was there and looking super stylish. I took the handsome Michael Nus as my date. I wore a vintage Albert Nipon that was a hit. I’ve not got so many complimentsa on one dress from so many social sites/people in a while. Good score I tell ya! This is my fav photo. Thanks to Erin Bury for snappin the pix, I forgot to bring Nancie (my camera). No one knew what to expect, the invitation was very mysterious (and creative) and the whole night was comic book themed. I loved seeing so many fmiliar faces in one place. Oh, Deadmau5 was there too so the music was epic. I’ve got more photos to upload but have to scoot to the office. First say back since Thursday.
