TBT: Diary of a Background Performer

Years ago I used to work in film & tv as a background actress. I spent hours, and hours sitting in holding waiting to be called to set. It was a really fun experience and I met heaps of cool people. One summer I spent months working on the set of American Pie: Beta House. There were heaps of really cool people on that set including now CP24 weather reporter Patricia Jaggernauth, recording artist Ish Morris, actress Meghan Heffern, and my sister (who had her own trailer for part of the summer).  Eugene Levy was in it too. Below is a little diary entry  wrote while sitting in background holding on the set of Degrassi at Degrassi High in 2008. This photo was taken years later when I worked at MuchMusic & MTV and was given a Degrassi shirt. I started thinking to myself as I sit in Background Holding for Degrassi High…. Here I am working on a show I’ve never seen surrounded by a bunch of people whom either I’ve met over the last six weeks or are new faces. Its’ great. I hear the sound of “Its Raining Men” on the set, I’ve managed once again to avoid being used or getting on camera. (This is often a goal! lol) It’s a total dream when you get to spend the day sitting in Holding, getting paid to do whatever it is your little heard desires until they call for lunch or “everyone on set”. I’m hoping that today I make it until lunch. My first experience as a Background Performer was working on the set of “American Pie presents Beta House”. I was booked with my sister to do four days of continuity at a mansion in Thornhill. The place was beautiful! We met at Background Holding,…

Netflix Canada Contest: Orange is the New Black?

OK, I started this book today. Sitting on Queen Street in the shade waiting for (rain) someone boyfriend. Netflix sent me a signed copy from the author. Autograph is orange highlighter, naturally. It sounds good, the creator of Weeds made it. Scroll down if you want the prize only, winner gets the following.. PRIZE PS3 ($269 Future Shop) Six month Netflix Canada subscription ($48) Author signed copy of Orange Is The New Black book (Piper Kerman Priceless) I love Netflix and I watch heaps of moves. Last year they sent me a FIVE YEAR subscription and I am excited because more series are being produced for Netflix ONLY. [I was a subscriber before they contacted me.] WATCH THIS IT’S FUNNY Taryn Manning, Donna from That 70’s Show, Jason Biggs (American Pie),  and Janeane Garofalo. LOVE IT.  I like this story, from the first chapters, because I could be this person. So could you. It’s not that hard to get trapped in a cross-border love/drug smuggling scandal. I saw Broke Down Palace, I know how this works.   HOW TO WIN This is a totally made up contest – WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO SAVE ME IN JAIL? Tweet Basically this could happen to anyone, right? In order to pay her debt to society (for a 10 year-old drug money thing smuggling for an African Drug Lord), Piper must trade her comfortable New York life with fiancé  Larry (Jason Biggs) for an orange jumpsuit and prison life. It’a a wild roller coaster  I haven’t read it all yet but SOMEONE LIKE YOU can have a new PS3 to watch it. Imagine I was in jail… I’d be like a junior Martha Stewart. Naturally. PS3 plays Blueray.  This is a fun contest. Tweet or die FTW. Much love, CASIE

Measuring Tape Girl Film Screening at the NFB

On October 2nd I’m hosting a film screening for Measuring Tape Girl at the National Film Board of Canada. Screening is limited to 60 people and the RSVP details are below. The film is produced by an old friend Byron Martin whom I worked with a few years back on American Pie. (I’ve been in a few movies over the years, was on Degrassi TNG once too.)  This is the director Marco Veltri at Cannes earlier this year. Nice measuring tape jacket 😉 The film is about “society’s willingness to pour their hearts and bare their souls through a digital medium“. It’s an examination of self-image, alienation, and indecisiveness the average person is faced with today. The lead, Jessica Embro, is a video blogger.   For the record, I did not call myself a rockstar or “influential Canadian Blogger” but I am humbled by the kind works. Thank you to Vocab Communications for asking me to be their host. Looking forward to the screening & media surrounding the film. Yay, films about blogging. I’M JULIA CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLD!!! (That was for Keri and if you have never seen the blogging movie ‘Julie & Julia’ you might not get it.) Have an awesome day!

Pure beer bliss.

All the beer shelves were fully stocked, store opens today in Liberty Village. I love straight lines. Everything was lined up with perfection. Pretty. Pinup. ♥ Very nice shop that appeals to urban consumers. Young urban professionals of downtown, generation Y, Yuppies 2.0. SO good to see Carly & have her back in town. Love you babe! Carly is my agent and today I have a top secret audition for something on TV. I was taking our pic in the mirror here… Then I totally spilled my beer. Doh! Food was really good and outside they had an oyster bar. Look how big that one guys is! They looked to slimey for me. I kinda like oysters but think I’m stopping liking them. The slimeyness over does the taste & other effects for me. Wiggly little buggers. Brown Barbie likes ’em! My peeps comin’ down the red carpet. We arrived early & left fairly early. My new thing, getting real good at it. It takes practice. DJ was really good. Arriving early gives you optimal time for dance breaks before it gets crowded. We were drinking these beers & Stella. I love beer. Blonde is one of my fav’s. Obvs. Hi friends! Brocklyn, you are so studly. Love ya Shan 🙂 Sebastian from bring Erica. Him & his bro are hot. Nice too. hey there school girl

Leather jacket, sweet ride. I rarely ever take TTC. I noticed that today. I pretty much walk everywhere. I stay in my neighbourhood heaps. I need to tune up my bike. Anyone have a hook up? I have a varity of talents for barter. Seeing a pack of cops will forever remind me of the G20. Google “casie stewart riot girl“. I hope I never have to be in a situation like that again. Running through the streets soaking wet, people were being detained and arrested, cops everywhere in riot gear, riots. No,  thank you. Last time I was here I was in American Pie Beta House. I like this campus. It’s really pretty and old. I walked home after. It was pretty warm out. You are beautiful Jessica. sunshine | motorola milestone | me to we beaded heart | capezio cowboy boots | steve madded dress (raymi) | nella bella change purse | motorola milestone telus | jean jacket, queen west clothing swap | jessica’s scarf (she has mine) | rabbit fur, ruby NZ | leather jacket | smile ipad | moleskine style bamboo dodo case | croissant | americano this view is very creepy to me. haha. hey there jessica and some speakers. one guy looks like he’s late, eh? It was really fun talking to all the students and other speakers at U of T Mississauga. Thanks for having me. Remember kids, BE AWESOME, and follow me on twitter. Today I am at Centennial College in the morning and St. Lawrence Market for St. Patty’s day in the arvo. Kinda feel super busy but then I think I would be bored if it was any other way.  I so often wish I didnt have to sleep so I could work on stuff all the time.  Things are…

i like the way you work it out

Morning everyone? Are ya ready? Let’s go. We are gonna work-it-work-it. Pushup skillz, I got em. Do you? Oh yes please and thank you for making me do this. Hurts but a good hurt 😉 Work it. When I’m down and I feel like giving up I think again, I whip my hair back and forth like this. Work it. This all makes me look so fit nevermind the next post where I have a drink in every photo. Having a balance is very important too kids but most important is a-t-t-i-t-u-d-e. NBD just air cycling. You’re welcome. Burpees you know what those are? I had no clue. That’s what we’re all doing here. The best thing for me about going to a gym where you are instructed and told what to be IS BEING instructed and told. I was a dancer growing up and I hated gym class in highschool.  I never really knew how/felt comfortable working out on my own. I feel much better about the whole thing now. How cute is this little angel April? Known April for a while now. We met that one summer (1997?) I did American Pie Beta House. Look at me here hangin’ with the Beta boys on set. I hated that outit, had to wear it for a multiple days shooting a really long scene. That’s my sis and Ish in the front. If you listen to happy upbeat music and mix in some dancing you will have more fun with your workout. If you dance in your day you will have more fun with your life. Trust me on this, I know. Workout inspiration/thinspiration is the Bodyrock Babe. Have you SEEN her body? OMG I die. So in shape it’s insane. This exercise feels like burning. James is a really…

TIFF day two: apparently somebody is famous

Oh man. Was in bed all day today. I need to rest. I am almost Tiff’d out. Premiere tonight thanks the lovely Cadillac Insider. Going to see CLIENT 9 The rise and fall of Eliot Spitzer. Have to go get my tickets but I don’t want to go outside yet. It sounds windy. Not as sunny today. Yesterday was an awesome day, an awesomely looooong day. Yorkville all day Tastmakers Gifting Lounge for  nails done, makeup and more. Thanks for the presents guys! That neighbourhood is growing on me, could also be that it is Film Fest so buzzing. Joe Fresh makeup is really nice. My lipstick didn’t leave marks when kissing cheeks of all the zillion people I saw throughout the day. Diesel Lounge for lunch on the patio and a mini photo shoot with hot NY photog Raphael Mazzucco. He is apparently a pretty big deal, shooting covers of Time, Sports Illustrated and Victoria’s Secret. 2020 Home Renovations: The Plan

It’s happening! We’re starting renovations on our house and I am so excited. This past summer a good friend reached out to me about her client to see if we had any plans to renovate our bathrooms at home or the cottage. After a few months of talking, making plans, and sign-off, we’re renovating both bathrooms at home with American Standard. I am 100% at the age where things like this give me great joy. I loved picking out fixtures, toilets, sinks, and faucets. For years, Sean and I have been thinking about doing renovations but it can be kinda overwhelming. We’re also planning to paint and make some changes to the kitchen. I’ve been building a Pinterest board with ideas and DIY tips for ages. All the current bathroom fixtures and accessories will be moved to the cottage to update that space and saved for our future shipping container project. During our staycation at Hotel X Toronto, I was admiring the nice toilet in our suite when I noticed the brand, American Standard. This is the Townsend Vormax toilet we are getting! Yes, I ‘m excited about a toilet, this is my life now. For the upstairs full bathroom, we’ve picked out matte black fixtures from the American Standard Studio S Collection. They’re modern and similar to the ones below. I can’t wait to paint, tile, and install everything. I’ve been looking up a nice radiator to keep it warm and found some good heating tips. We’re planning to do most of the work ourselves, both Sean and I are pretty handy. We’re starting with the downstairs bathroom in February and making our way to the second larger bathroom next. If you have any tips or thoughts to share about home renovations, I’m all ears! My goal is to…

Ways to Make Some Extra $$$$

This blog post is an extension of a conversation, an email, and a couple texts. I finally got around to it hahaha. I remember learning about the ‘multiple streams income’ concept from The Wealthy Barber, Dave Chilton back in college. I always wanted to get to point where I had multiple streams of income and wasn’t waiting for my next cheque to arrive. There’s working hard and working smart and I am a big fan of being creative and efficient. Depending on where you’re currently going in life, there are different options you can take. For instance, if you’re a retired homeowner, you may even be able to take out a loan using your home as security. A lot of retired people turn to equity release as a way of finding extra money. Check out EquityRelease.co.uk to learn more about some of the equity release options available. But what about ways to generate more income? If you need to get more $$ in your pocket get smart about making more money. If you are in urgent need of cash then you may want to see what your local pawn shop can do for you. Get bills in your bank, scroll on my friend! Get Money w/ Ebates Cash Back + Referrals I’ve earned over $100 on my purchases in the last couple months. I have both USA and Canada accounts. I (spend all my money on the internet and) love buying things at Sephora and Amazon.ca. It’s free money you get back on things you’re already buying! Sign up her One of the other cool things is you get $$ for referring friends with your sign up link, so send this out to your fam and get them to sign up. BAM! You get money and in the form of…

Fashion | Gifts that Keep on Giving, TOMS for Target

Starting November 16th you can find a special collection by TOMS at Target stores across North America. The limited-edition collection is co-designed by TOMS founder and chief shoe giver, Blake Mycoskie and goes along with TOMS One for One® giving model where every purchase helps a person in need. Along withe the collection they also created this totally awesome ‘Together Sweater’ inspired by TOMS One for One. Naturall, I tried it on with all my fav people. I love togetherness. Sean has agreed to wear it to a ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater Party’ and I reckon it’s a contest winner! Sorry guys, the sweater ISN’T for sale. They’ve got items for for men, women, kids, and home and with this collection, Target is donating a blanket, meals or shoes in partnership with TOMS and North America-based charities American Red Cross Disaster Relief, Canadian Red Cross, Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. Each product displays the corresponding donations so you can easily see how your purchase is helping someone out. I’ve got a couple pairs of TOMS and have picked a few of my fav items from the Target collection below. Love this poncho and am hoping to score one bright and early tomorrow morning. Each purchase will give a blanket so someone in need. Sean’s fav outfit is chambray shirts and jeans, aka the Canadian tuxedo. The plan is to pick one of these up for him and by doing that, TOMS will provide one week of meals through one of their selected charities. The kids clothes are especially cute and by picking something up for your fav lil’ shorty you’re doing some good.  This t-shirt gives 1 week of meals and the hoodie 1 blanket. The housewares items are all under $30 and make great gifts. I’m a fan of these little journals. Nothing like afresh new…
