Oh, pardon the swag! I’m in Calgary, Alberta for the 10th anniversary of Paul Hardy, a Calgary based designer making a name for himself around the globe. I’m one of about a dozen bloggers who have have graciously been sent here by Calgary Tourism for a weekend of fashion, fun, food, and friends. I’m fell into the internet this morning after a deep sleep in my king size bed at Hotel Arts and now I really need to hurry to get downstairs. Driver picks us up in half an hour ten minutes for a fancy media lunch. I have a few hours to hibernate shop and hangout this afternoon before the show & afterparty. I love fashion. I can’t wait! Kinda glad it’s snowing so I can wear a hat and fur. Oh, and it’s totally SNOWING. This is my inspiration for the day. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. ![Blunnies Come in Shoes Now: These are my new pair!]()
The other week I recieved an email about the new Blundstone shoes. I’ve wanted a pair of boots for ages, so I replied right away and set up a time to visit the store. Blundstone boots come from Tasmania, Australia (I’ve been there) and all the shoe styles (like traditional boots) are unisex. Tried on both traditional boot in round & square toes, and the new shoe style. I went with the new shoe. They’re cute. Shoes retail for $149/pair and are available in Blundstone retailers across Canada and blundstone.ca. I got mine at the store on Queen West. Of course 😉 They come in three different colours. I picked chocolate suede. Ian Heaps of Blundstone Footwear said ““The new shoe style is perfect for those who want the Blundstone quality and comfort in a lighter format. “The shoes are great for around the office, but also transition well into the evening. They provide lasting comfort with Blundstone’s signature “slip on/slip off” convenience. They are everything you would find in a Blundstone boot, in a smaller, lighter package.” I love the way they get worked in over time. This pair belong to Casey from the Blundstone store on Queen (same name = awesome) and hers are about a year old (left) and the other ones are brand new. I’m pretty sure my uncle has a pair of these, they always remind me of New Zealand. Guess who else wears Blundstones? The Sheepdogs. Founded in 1870, Blundstone is Australia’s leading manufacturer of quality footwear and IS STILL a family-owned company. I reckon they’ll fit right into my wild lifestyle. ![Nuvo Burlesque – I’m in an Army of Sass and it’s HOT.]()
It’s been three weeks of rehearsal for our shows in December. I waited a couple weeks till we had something to show you. I could literally make GIFs of everything we do. Lead by creator & choreographer of Nuvo-Burlesque Carla Catherwood, and commercial choreographer Lindsay Ritter, we are the ARMY OF SASS. I saw the Electronic Cabaret a few times this summer and I knew I needed to be part of it. This is one of the coolest things I’ve done in the last year (at least). I have a video of us doing a routine but I am shy to show you my skills just yet. This is a sneak peek of what we’re working on. I hope you come to the show. There are about 50 of us. It is burlesque like you have never seen before and I am SO STOKED to be part of it. My sister Jenie is also in the troupe along with the lovely Jaclyn Genovese, Carolyn Van and a whole bunch of other babes. This video inspired me today. Burberry is the most innovative fashion brands (according to Mashable). I feel they are one of the most innovative brands in the world. I want to visit the ‘store of the future’ in London. I’m blown away. I have such a heart on for innovation My goal is to stay ahead of the influencers and be known as an innovator. ![The Sweetest Thing: New Jeans, New Jacket, Jean Machine]()
The week before I started at Community I was CRAZY busy with TIFF events. One of the things that makes TIFF so busy is the insane amount of parties and outfit changes in between gift lounges & films. NO really, it’s actually stressful! My friend Val works with Jean Machine and they invited me to the Eaton Centre store to ….PICK OUT AN OUTFIT! I worked in the mall heaps during highschool and knew Jean Machine well. My first job was at GAP in Fairview Park Mall. I used to wear a LOT of jeans back then and Jean Machine was my destination. I remember almost crying to Dad once I needed new jeans and in the car we went to Jean Machine. I wish like crazy I still has those super soft Silver’s from grade ten, I lived in those things. It’s been ages since I walked into a Jean Machine store and was happy to be re-introduced. They had Yoga Jeans, Mavi is still there, and some new brands. I tried on about 10 pairs with a stylist over the course of an hour. Decided on a pair of flare (yes, and so long) jeans by Guido & Mary. Low rise, slim fit, and BEST a$$ pants. No seriously. To complete my outfit I got a fitted blazer from the Jean Machine brand YDE. Wore the blazer at first day at work and jeans when I spoke last week at a conference week. ![A TIFF Test of My Patience & Awesome TIFF Video]()
Holy cow. Remember when I said it would be a miracle to make it though the day, welllllll…. GoDaddy had a server issued this morning which affected casiestewart.com crashing my site so for just over and hour. Minor heart attachhhhh. My sisters phone is not charging so I thought she totally ditched us for the Coral Shoot. My printer ran out of ink. I had to take a bus because of Spadina construction, A BUS. I made it to Yorkville only 15 min late and have a super cute outfit. My sister was there waiting with Shannon (producer) and I had that portable Bookstone charger for her phone. It all worked out ok. I even made it home for Young & The Restless before Fashion’s Night Out. Anxiety level now at a manageable level. Shirt was brought over today by Beaucoup Fashion House, shorts & collar H&M, belt vintage, shoes Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s. What doesn’t kill you makes you sweaty and stressed stronger! ![TIFF DAY 1 – Tastemakers Lounge & Swarovski 007 Red Carpet]()
Whoa. It’s here. Today might busiest day in my 2012 calendar. Not. Even. Kidding. If I can make all my appointments and events I will question my humanity. Am I robot/alien? You will never know. (Shhh you in the back there, keep your secrets!) I have so much gratitude to give for my sister being PA (Production Assistant) on my show today, BMW sponsoring drivers for our Fashion’s Night Out team, tech related media interview in the AM, so may awesome events, my hair growing (don’t laugh), having my nails done (this is serious), and my bestie Lozzie Lauren O’Nizz being invited to all the same things as me. Thank you universe. Yesterday I went to media day at the TIFF Tastemakers Lounge put on by Rock-It Promo and I was SPOILED. Rotten! TIFF is truly more fun than a birthday or holidays because all the media friends are out, everyone is receiving gifts, and celebrating. Films take the first place for TIFF but trust me that fashion is a verrrrry close second. This is the eighth annual Tastemakers Lounge, it’s a Canadian gifting suite hosted during the Toronto International Film Festival. It brings local and international guests to indulge in exceptional products that Tastemakers Lounge is known for. This was my third year and perhaps the best! ![Fashion’s Night Out hits Toronto September 6th]()
The clock is ticking! On Setember 6th Toronto joins over 18 countries and a zillion worldwide events for Fashion’s Night Out. This is the first ever FNO in Toronto so it’s kinda a big deal. It’s also the opening night of TIFF so, izzz gon’ be crazy! FNO was created in 2009 as a collab between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company and the City of New York. It’s a night for shoppers, celebrities, models, editors and fashion lovers to get together over shopping, style tips, make-overs, and parties. I’m on the social committee and will be bopping around to events ALL night. FNO Toronto runs from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm on September 6th. ![REAL PEOPLE: The Lanvin FW12 Campaign]()
I am in love with this campaign. The guy who eats frozen blueberries, the one with out a car, the bearded blonde looking for a grant. My favourite is Former Apollo dancer, Jacquie “Tajah” Murdock, the film ends with her saying, “Well I said that when I was 18 I wanted to go to Paris so he could turn it around and put the eight in front and the one behind it… Eight one, instead of one eight.” In the background you hear Alber Elbaz say, “Paris is coming to you!” With a big “MWAH!”. It’s magical. I think we’re going to see more ‘real people’ in campaigns. Real people like me and you. The girl with purple hair is NY blogger Stella Rose who writes Confessions of a Female Drag Queen. Her blog is as awesome as her style. I feel like Telus uses real people and Mastercard just did a casting for ‘real people’ for Toronto Fashion Week. I sent in my photo late so the chances of me getting that one are slim. Sebastian Simon Lifschitz, the one who eats frozen blueberries, used to be a blogger. It is the first time I’ve seen a post on someones blog saying “I don’t really use this blog anymore, if you want to follow me, find me on instagram: sebastianlif”. I guess times are changing. Change is good.
