Read this article today by Brian Solis on paidcontent.org. He’s a leader in the world of digital communication and I really like reading his stuff. He does a lots of studies on charging markets and research etc. Here’s a few excerpts. I’d say give it a read if you are a brand, a blogger, a robot or a human. Some good meat in the report.
“Digital influence is one of the hottest trends in social media and it is also one of the least understood. Like some relationships on Facebook, “it’s complicated.”
Klout, PeerIndex, Kred and many others are investing millions of dollars to understand how our social media activity translates into influence. Within the last 90 days alone, Klout took in a Series C of $30 million from Kleiner Perkins at a whopping valuation of $200 million. PeerIndex also recently announced aninvestment of $3 million. The market for influence is only heating up with more entrants expected to debut and acquisitions or mergers likely on the horizon.”
Scores do not matter as much as the context of relationships
Brands need to take responsibility for translating these numbers into insights
Businesses need to develop meaningful social influence strategies and define desired outcomes.
In other news, I’ve been added to a second panel for NXNE Interactive that will look at The Business of Influence and How to Influence Influencers (just kidding! hahahaha). Panel is about Making Social Giveaways a Win-Win for Brands and Online Communities. Will have more details on date & time along with some NXNE tickets to give away.

Helloooooooooooo. I want to make some art. Outside painting when summer comes. We’re back to pre-spring temps in Toronto again today. Mega wind. I’d rather be at this game int he sun, sun, sun.
I learned today that Albert Einstein married his cousin, Elsa Einstein. Interesting eh. I used to carry around a paper printed from home that was a collection of inspiring words and quotes by Albert E. I called is STEINNIE, mixed up the letters and kept it in my pocketbook. Moleskine. Lemme see if I can find it, yep, inspiration folder of papers.
One day I will have a huge office and there will be papers everywhere. It will be lovely because nobody will use paper anymore and they will all be artifacts.
One of my favs:
The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.
One for Saturday:
If A equals success, then the formula is A equals X plus Y plus Z.X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut.
Sometimes I find old blog posts that have been chaged or the links don’t work and I know I need to fix that but it’s fun finding them too. Today I found this creative little writing excerpt from one of my journals. I was wearing tall gladiator sandals, it was 2009.
this papers not as good for drawing its better for writing in pen i like when the pencil scratches the paper its thinner than the other paper and i like that one better because you can do more with different things and make it more colourful and full of life
i don’t like to write on the back of the paper and i like when the words fill up the spaces of the flat piece of paper either and when words the same end up together it makes me smile and i like it
the reporter is always writing and chasing stories i would rather be chased than chase the lives and run in circles around my own thoughts and how i feel about the lives of other people i like to report my own stories its new and always news
its always new and always news but it gives me anxiety sometimes
Jenie and I get a little silly when we hang out. It’s the best though. We had a blast singing, dancing and tanning on my balcony before hitting the park.
The sunshine was so beautiful and it’s great again today! My entire outfit is Billabong SS 2012 and boots are vintage. Jenie is in a dress from H&M.
I’m en route to Windsor with Canadian Club for a pimped out whiskey tour. It’s a bunch of media friends in a limo bus, three cheers for highschool rye school.
I’m sitting in the beautiful lunch room at the Telus tower downtown. Sun is beaming in the windows and the chefs behind me are whipping up a soup & crepe just for me.
My first ever cell phone was with Telus back in 1996 when they were Clearnet. I love this company and am especially fond of their branding and advertisements. I will now pay attention & have my lunch.
Doesn’t it look good! Yum! Have an awesome afternoon 🙂
I chuckle to myself at this title and the fact that I’m called upon to talk about the psychology of narcissism and how it affects brands. I know it has a lot to do with how technology and society have changed the way we communicate but it’s still kinda funny. I reckon Mum thinks it’s funny too. I’ve not changed much since I was a kid, seriously.
Our SXSW panel was really awesome. The room was packed, we had great discussion and there were lots of questions following. I enjoyed meeting psychotherapist Dr. Jacob Small and discussing my own ‘personality disorder’ and how narcissism is extremely prevalent in todays society. During our panel I learned that Narcissism as a clinical disorder is being removed from ‘the book’ and added as merely a symptom of other personality disorders.
Interestingly enough, a couple days before this panel I was written about in local Toronto weekly, The Grid about being an introvert then the very next day an extrovert. I definitely have both sides to my personality but I’m clearly a highly functioning crazy person.
I’m speaking at NXNE in June about the same topic and hope you’ll be there to see it. I’m sure I’ll be able to hook up some tickets for our panel closer to the date. Yeeeeeeehaw! All photos by the lovely Kate Killet.
