Happiness & The Benefits of Light Therapy

It’s a bit more work stay my sunshiney self during the winter. Today we had freezing rain that looks and feels like kosher salt. The last few weeks have involved a lot of staying inside and I wrote about a few ways to boost your mood here. Today I had my first Light Therapy session at MOCA Toronto. It was cool!  Light Therapy is included with your museum membership unless there is a private session booked. I had purchased a membership because I thought it was only open to members. I booked weekly sessions for the next few weeks and today I found out I have the room ALL TO MYSELF for each one! There’s a cafe on the first floor and drinks are permitted inside the installation. There’s parking across the street and coat check on the first floor. If you are interested in coming to check it out, please let me know. I have the room booked weekly and can bring a few people each time. We can chat or you can do your own thing! What is Light Therapy? Light therapy involves exposure to intensive light under controlled conditions. The installation is designed to simulate a bright, sunny day with LEDs generating 5,600 K of low Ultraviolet, full spectrum daylight-balanced light. Everything in the room is white and you’re encouraged to wear a lab coat and white shoe covers to maintain the brightness. I am very into the lab coat. Light therapy can help with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). In winter we lack vitamin D from the sun, our skin is dry, and sometimes, depression sets in. This installation is an experiment as part of the Art in Use project and Light Therapy is by Apolonija Šušteršič. History of Light Therapy Light Therapy was originally produced for the Moderna Museet in Sweden in 1999, to…

Let’s Talk

Three events today. Ignore…. 33 Facebook notifications. Too many unread emails. Twitter notifications. Instagram notifications. Unread messages. It’s overwhelming. Then add on [that you’ve been keeping a public diary about your life for a decade and] all kinds of people who don’t really know you who think they ‘like totally’ know you because they’ve known you for 5+ years. They know about the cottage and people, places, things, thoughts. Boyfriends, birthdays, best friends. They’ve had babies and you’d recognize their kids now, but you don’t really know them. They know you, part of you, the sunshiney part where you’re always smiling and wearing bright colours, or going somewhere great looking good. They don’t see behind the screen, in the pile of clothes or messy closet. The days when you just can’t even, when you think about leaving the house. Or going to that event. When all you want to really do is stay home and cook in your kitchen or go to yoga because it makes you feel better. I feel like I need a break and maybe it’s the winter blues talking post vacation SAD*.  Maybe it’s because I’m on the waitlist for yoga at noon. Maybe it’s Time’s Up or Me Too. I don’t know. It’s freezing outside and blowing snow gives limited visibility. It’s also Bell Let’s Talk and Spring is just a few weeks away. It’s ok not to be ok. I’m not always ok. The last few weeks have been really hard. The trip to New Zealand was super fucking hard. My nana died and one of my uncles was being super controlling from the day I arrived to the point where I blocked him on Facebook. Travelling with your mum is not easy. I cried a lot for the first week of the trip. I cried…

Hello From The Other Side of The Screen

Last week I was so exhausted but after a weekend of naps and relaxing, I feel so much better. We went out for a mini-halloween on Friday and took the rest of the weekend off. I’m usually ALL ABOUT Halloween but this year, I was too dang tired. Travelling the last month has been great but it started to catch up with me the last couple days. I was feeling sick, tired, sad, discouraged. I often rirng mum on days like that and she reminds me to take a nap and not be too hard on myself. Almost every single time I feel like giving up and ‘getting a real job’, something great is around the corner. This year I’ve signed up for NaNoWiMo (National Novel Writing Month) after a few unsuccessful attempts ovefre last 5 years. The goal is to write a novel in 30 days with a little bit each day. I’ve been working on a 10 year blog/book thinger for years a while and I’m determined to have it done by the end of 2016. I’ve got the framework all together and I just to actually sit in a quiet room and WRITE. Winter is always my ‘hibernation station’ time to focus and set goals for the upcoming year. I don’t have any trips planned till after Christmas so this month is all about self care and spending quality time at home and with my computer. Being on the go is a really exciting but part of my life but I also really love being at home writing on my computer. I’ve got heaps of stories to share so I hope you’ll stick along for the ride. Here’s to a great week! With love,

Video: #JayuBloggedII Diaries SS15

If you were following along on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or Selfish yesterday you’ll know I was on set with Shop for Jayu shooting the spring lookbook. It was fun! Nothing like a day of dress up and playing in front of the camera to make you feel really tired. Once I get home, I didn’t even make it through the Grammy’s before passing out on the couch in my jogging suit onesie. Earlier last week we met to plan our looks at The Pink Grapefruit, Queen East. Check out the video below. Behind the Scenes @ Silverline Studios A photo posted by shopforjayu (@shopforjayu) on Feb 8, 2015 at 9:48am PST I finally wore these super uncomfortable shoes (that I love) from NastyGal. They’re never seen pavement but I’ve been holding onto them and sometimes wearing them in the house for the last year. That clear heel tho.   A photo posted by C A S I E S T E W A R T (@casiestewart) on Feb 8, 2015 at 3:49pm PST A photo posted by C A S I E S T E W A R T (@casiestewart) on Feb 8, 2015 at 10:33am PST That’s a wrap! Now we wait to see the final shots. Fingers crossed. This is the part I hate, the waiting! I’ll be sure to share with you once they’re live. A photo posted by shopforjayu (@shopforjayu) on Feb 8, 2015 at 5:46pm PST Here’s hoping you have a great Monday. I’m feeling a bit drained and overwhelmed, need one of those UV lamps I think. February is a tough one of all of us in cold, dark, wintery climates. Remember to get some sun on your face, take Vitamins D and B. I find a B50 complex really helps me from feeling SAD.…

Fashion | Ted Baker London Now Open At Eaton Centre

Last week Ted Baker London opened a new store at the Eaton Centre. The store is located right across the the Apple Store on the second floor near Queen Street. Love that Apple & Ted’s new shop are so close. Media, bloggers, and brand lovers filled the store to check out the latest collection, intimate details of the store, and dine on English treats from P&L Catering. These little savoury pies were divine! I ate my share of mini sausage rolls too. Here’s some snaps from the event via Katherine Holland/Faulhaber Communications. I was wearing that darling hot pink dress I absolutely love. It’s available the store right now along with a bunch of other great dresses perfect for the holidays. The whole gang of Ted Baker London Brand Ambassadors was on site for the opening. I’m sure you recognize a few faces! Tweeters gonna tweet, tweet, tweet! I really love the attention to detail in everything Ted baker London. Pattered jacket linings, quotes on accessories, little monogrammed initials, unique buttons, there’s personality in all the details.  In the new ‘Bakers Arcade’ themed shop you’ll find something special in every nook and cranny. There’s so many darling pieces in the shop right now. I love this blue number! Collar dresses are my fav. This green suit. I die. I have a version of this camel cape coat from last season. So nice. I’m hoping to pop in over the next few days to pick up a super cute riding hat for winter. Here’s to a wonderful weekend! Happy Friday! <3 CASIE
