i think i’m ready to move on with someone new #mobile

Construction season. Looking forward to winter, as much as I don’t like being cold, I love staying inside where it’s warm and working on things. A blog makeover is coming. If you have any suggestions in design or functionality, LMK. (Mum, that’s “met me know”) This weekend I started testing out a new phone, HTC Status. I’ve had one HTC before but I’ve been hooked on Motorola Androids for the last year at least. This new HTC unit has a front facing camera (yay) but no flash (boo). It has a full keyboard and looks like a Blackberry but the touch screen is a bit small. The DEFY I had previous was sturdy and had a good camera but sometimes it would be slow & freeze when typing. Of all the Androids I’ve tried, the Motorola Milestone was my fav. We were such good friends. Things that are most imoprtant to me in a phone are good camera, flash, easy to type, Google sync contacts, email accounts, favourite apps (WordPress, Twitter etc). Nice to have are front facing camera, video editing and dual core processor. I could never go back to blackberry. Cue this song, nice mix. When she was great, I thought she was great. I was cutting up some broccoli for snack just now and sliced a sharp knife into my right hand middle finger by accident. It’s not that bad but there’s a bit of blood and I’m short one resource when typing. I’ve been thinking heaps about iPhone lately. I can’t stop thinking about it to be honest. I think I’m ready to move on with someone new and that someone is an iPhone. I’m having a hard time holdingback my feelings.  It’s so natural. ♥

Get out there and build it.

Something I really love about life is the uncertainty of not knowing what the day will bring you. Opportunity, challenges, happiness, stress, whatever it is, I accept. Woke up today feeling kinda meh. Waited ages for a driver from CO-OP, they should be called slow-op. Was angry for a few minutes seconds but had a lovely chat with concierge while waiting. Arrived at 1 King West during morning session break at Dell CAP. I didn’t realize how big the thing was before I went. I was taken to my seat (which I then realized) was two seats down from the moderator (Mark Evans), beside a Dell exec. and in clear view of the livestream. I don’t know WHAT I was expecting but it wasn’t this. I was pleasantly surprised. I’m not a Dell user, nor do I have any Dell products and before today I knew very little about the brand or company. I was impressed by the attention to detail, organization, and care the people at Dell have to their business. There were not more than 30 people, some local, others flown in from across Canada & the US. We shared ideas about brands we thought were doing things well in customer service, purchasing, sustainability and social media. My favourite part was the Social Media Discussion which included all Dell Panelists. The livestream is available to watch in sections here. This is the segment lead by Mark Graham (Rightsleeve) & myself on SM: View the story “Tweets from Dell CAP Day – October 2011” on Storify]   Everyone met in the Vault for cocktail hour and I walked to Ryerson University were I was speaking to the Image Arts Union & other students about personal branding & social media. We had a good discussion going for a while and in the middle of my talk the lights went…

I read the New York Times via Flipboard on my iPad.

I have a thing for personality theories and quizzes. Somehow by answering questions, they manage to put you into a box that no matter how creative (or not) you are, you’re just another section of society. The tattoo on my right ring finger is based on a well known and fairly old (now) personality theory called True Colours that breaks individuals down to blue, orange, green & gold. It’s used lots in the workplace to enhance coworker cohesiveness. My colours are blue (analytical, organized) & orange (outgoing, confident). O’Nizz posted this personality quiz by the NY Times this morning. The New York Times thinks I’m a Trendsetter. Modern in your way of thinking and fun loving in your outlook on life, you are on the pulse of what’s hot and what’s not. You are not afraid to ruffle a few feathers in the name of style and creativity – moving forward with the times is what’s important to you. You are an emotional spirit and you make really strong connections. Good friends and lots of laughs are the recipe for really happy days. And nights! Lively and confident, you’re someone who likes to make a big impression. You understand that first impressions count and that you won’t always get a second chance. You’ve got great taste and strive to be one step ahead of the crowd. Your passion for fashion means you’ve got a bit of a reputation amongst your friends for creating your own style. Keeping an eye on the trends, you know what suits you but while adopting the values of society in dress and taste, you are just as concerned with inward, spiritual beauty as with looks. The key is to allow yourself to appreciate life’s journey while holding fast to that which matters most to you. What are you?

OH MY GOOGLE!

Biggest news of the day so far, Google buys Motorola for 12.5 billion! OMG. This is exciting for Android users and especially me cause I’m friends with Motorola and been using their devices for almost two years. It’s a match made in heaven I reckon.  Google CEO Larry Page wrote about the acquisition on the Google blog here. “Motorola’s total commitment to Android in mobile devices is one of many reasons that there is a natural fit between our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers everywhere.” Google, Android & Motorola are three of my most loved brands. Once I blogged about Google being my boyfriend, you know how I have affairs with technology. Remember this special guy too? In a statement, Google said ” “will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem.” Hella yeah super charge. I wonder what devices & stuff they’ll have now? Hmm. This is my most recent device,  Moto Android, the DEFY. It’s super sturdy and “life proof”, scratch resistant, water resistant and has a swipe keyboard which I’ve really grown to love. I blogged about it here. I used my HTC the other day and typing one letter at a time w/ no swipe was like using a typewriter. Before DEFY I had Milestone which was also my fav. That phone is bigger and has a real keyboard. Expecting a new version of that to be out any minute now. BTW did you know I am left handed?  Vintage denim jacket from clothing swap, handmade leather bag made in Brazil from Bellwoods garage sale, Kabbalah string, blue bracelet from Kayita, pearlies from when I was a kid. Right arm. Heart onesie from H&M, feather tattoo, bracelet by Katiya, ruler bracelet…

The Cover of Rolling Stone, Sheepdogs & Beerfest

Woo hoo! Canadian bearded babe rockers won the cover of Rolling Stone contest.  I’ve not heard heaps of their music but I like their beards and attitudes from what I’ve seen/read. “We’ve been working hard for a long time,” said the band’s grateful frontman Ewan Currie. “We’re doing our best to stay humble and hard-working, we feel very blessed. All we needed was the attention.” Globe “The music industry has changed so much that there’s no set way of proceeding,” Currie said. “There’s not a formula you follow, like for other careers. You have to sort of jump on any opportunity that comes along and this has been a godsend for us.” Globe “”Good-time rockers The Sheepdogs are proud, bearded rock revivalists, with a whole manner of beards, ‘burns and ‘staches on display over the years. This may help bearded rock ‘n’ roll roll make its return to the cover of Rolling Stone.” CTV “Rock and Rollers from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Specializing in melody, harmony, guitar solos and general feel-goodery. Twitter They made this video to get people voting. I like their style. We may not kill it in sports but we surely are kicking’ it in music. This video of them getting the news from Rolling Stone about winning is pretty good too. This weekend (Sunday) they are playing Beerfest. Everyone can go! Using coupon code ‘CASIE‘ saves you $5 on tickets. Get a ticket here. Will most likely sell out before Sunday. Full band lineup is here.  Our Digital Lounge has seating, wifi, power and lite snacks. <3 Matt Wells had some good Tweets & pix about them in NYC yesterday.  Love seeing Canada kicking a$$ in awesomeness. Good writeup about them in the Globe which included this B&Wphoto. Glad I’m seeing them Sunday so I can decide IRL about the music. I love that look, beard…

Panel on Panels at MaRS in Toronto

Last night’s panel discussion on panel discussions (meta) went really well. I was happy to chat a few people after who said they really learned something. Thanks to Johnny Bunning aka @emanintdot for snapping this photos of us. I forgot to get someone to take a few shots. Doh! I love sharing things I’ve learned over the past few years. I’m a natural on stage! Although I love vacation, I really love working and it’s great to be back at my home office. It’s been a busy day with lots of phone calls. Planning some cool stuff for the next month. I wanna get in as many things as I can before the summer is over. I love this heat too. No chance of complaints from this lady! I watched this again and I feel like Optimism Girl today. If you’re not smiling, you will be after you watch this. Enjoy the day 🙂

The Science of Social: Periodic Table & Google+

Came across this last night on Google+ via Drew Olanoff. Good find. So many networks, omg. How many are you on? Click the photo to see it in large size. Been playing around in Google+ for the last week. It’s cool. Has potential. I’m a Google Fan Girl so I love seeing & testing out their new technologies & products. If you aren’t in yet, sign up here. Chris Brogan wrote about getting started here. One thing I am really loving is following people that inspire me and getting to see their posts The newsfeed reminds me of a blog. It’s clean & easy to navigate. Talking about this makes me want to draw wireframes. I’ve not had many conversation or a ‘hangout’ on video yet but I will soon. I wanna carve out some time to dive right in & organize my circles. Sounds so nerdy & I love it. These are some screen shots from my profile. Home dashboard: Get started info: Activity happening: Mashable posted some pretty funny parody videos and this one is my fav. The “Hitler Learns” series never fails. Kudos to whoever out there on the internet created this, you are funny. Social networking FTW! Ha. P.S. Monday I’m speaking on a Panel at MaRs. The panel is a Panel Discussion on Panel Discussions. It’s going to be interesting. The other speakers are very smart & good looking. You should come. Get a free ticket here. If you ever want to host a panel, this will give you valuable information on how to avoid making mistakes.

brand of the day: puma

Check out this total radness Puma thought up. So smart. The bag is made from cornstarch and is 100% biodegradable so it will completely decompose within a three month period. This will save 192 tons of plastic and 293 tons of paper every year AND means their bags won’t be in a landfill for 100 years like all the others. Not that’s innovation! This could be a game changer. Puma is a totally smart & cool brand. Remember earlier this year when I was the Puma Social-ite? We prepped for the party with this Poutine Promo video. Winter jackets ewww. Don’t know what a Puma Social After Hours Athlete is? This will explain it all for you. Here’s the Toronto party. It was legendary. Had so many people thank us for putting this together. The Puma After Hours Athlete campaign runs all year. Let’s hope we can put together a summer jam cause that party was out of this WORLD! When last call calls, don’t answer. Have an awesome day.
