Be Someone Who Makes You Happy

Tonight was a good one. Hair did, cooking, cleaning, packing, and a little Netflix. Exciting (secret project) planning after work tomorrow followed by an event on the roof at Thompson  with work + Molson. This is my life, I’m grateful, nervous, and excited.  It’s funny [something] having a public diary, I feel like I’m writing to myself, or often Mum. [Hi Mum, ring you at work today, love you!] LA, one more day away. 🙂 And earlier today… Ted Baker + Thomas Sabo. (CLICK TO SEE POSTS FROM BEFORE TODAY) xo CASIE

Believe it: essence & the Justin Bieber World Tour

A week ago I was in Brooklyn, NY on a press junket with the 2013 Justin Bieber tour sponsor essence cosmetics. It was awesome. I got TO MEET JUSTIN BIEBER. (I’m sure you saw or knew when I was there because I could not simply help myself from documenting the entire thing!) He was very… mellow. The concert was really good though, he’s a great performer. I was swooning, actually. essence is  the #1 value cosmetics brand in the world and I started using their products about six months ago after receiving them at the Canadian launch. All the essence products can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada and range from $.99 to $4.99. There’s a new collection for fall that’s jam packed with great new items and colours. I’m in love with the new matt lip paint (the red I’ve been wearing recently) and the Extreme Lash mascara. There’s some rad new nail polish colours which are great because they dry really fast. Look at Shoppers, you will see a massive rainbow. [View the story “BROOKLYN + BELIEVE TOUR #essenceJB” on Storify]

Canon Blogtography – Step Outside of Auto!

A couple weeks ago I announced my partnership with Canon as a Brand Ambassador and over the past month  I’ve been playing around with my new DSLR. The Canon Rebel SL1 is a compact 18 mega pixel camera with touch screen and whole bunch of features I’m not quite versed in yet.  I have heaps to learn.  Canon has awesome resources and I’ve been playing on canonoutsideofauto.ca but the real way I’m going to learn is TAKING PHOTOS. I’m just getting used to using a DSLR. I’ve got a pretty good eye for composing a nice shot but right now aperture and ISO feel like new languages. Once I  learn and understand exposure (ISO, shutter speed and aperture), I’ll be in business. I know it won’t take too long! I’ve been playing around with ISO and exposure. It’s super neat how one photo can be so different by changing just one or two things. This little Rebel has built in filters too. So, naturally I took a few selfies in the park to test them out. This weekend I’m shooting Digital Dreams music festival and in August I’ll be shooting Disneyland and California! Staring in next month have a weekly fashion column for Dose.ca. This is where those Canon skills will really come into play. I’m excited to take my blog to the next level! Below are a few photos I took using (gasp) auto to get used to using the camera.  One of the most beautiful things, a perfect avocado! Limba the 50 year old elephant at Bowmanville Zoo. A baby giraffe peeks out his head at Bowmanville Zoo. I need to work on depth and focus. Flower pot at the cottage in Muskoka. The dock and boat at sunset in Muskoka. Gonna to practice camera settings in nature. Over the next couple months I’ll be…

Real and Imagined

Got sent an advanced uncorrected proof from Simon & Schuster Canada. Thank you! Can’t wait to start it today, deep in the forest woods of Muskoka. I absolutely LOVE getting books in advance. Something so magical about it. We spent heaps of time at the library as kids. Summer reading club FTW.  Thanks Mum for that. YOU ARE THE BEST MUM! Got to have lunch with her and Dad with my sister this week for my birthday. Prettyyyyy awesome. Love you guys! Just watched Beauty and the Beast on VHS. I forgot he gave her the massive library. I love that library. And the dress. Belle is my fav Disney Princess. (You have one too, don’t lie to yourself now!) It’s kinda cold and gloomy up here this weekend but that’s perfect for writng so I don’t mind one bit. Enjoy the day 🙂 CASIE

VICE & PROJECT X @ TWIST GALLERY

This week I went to Twist Gallery for the after party for Vice’s movie PROJECT X. Kwasi, Ross, Brock, Sam Jean in H&M Miss Emma Recourt from Timeless on Queen Project X : mini review by Jason Nip If you’ve watched the trailer you know what you’re about to see. 3 unpopular high school teens, parents leaving for a weekend trip and a house ripe for the most destructive house party ever captured by a shaky handheld camera. What you don’t expect is just how far this party escalates and the number of “oh shit!” moments peppered with some laughs that carry the audience on a train ride to some unexpected dark places, keeping the genre fresh with a more realistic and less Disney like conclusion. I half expected to hate the film and there are those who will but the bastard child of Superbad and Cloverfield works on most levels if you let it. It’s a ride you want to stay on till the wheels fall off and do they ever. Project X hits theaters March 2nd.

Trendspotting

Had a photo shoot on the strip today with Canadian photog Taylor Jackson. Noticed a bit of a trend eh! There were more drunken Disney characters that I didn’t snap. The man in the Minnie Mouse is a sure way to scare some kids. Saw a leprechaun midget on a mic too. Count on hearing “only in Vegas”? About a million. Thinking we should do a drunken Disney parade some time. I’m guessing there is nothing Walt’s company can really do about it! Mooohahahaha. Leaving for the airport soon and will be home tomorrow. Toronto I love & miss you <3 xo * Taylor snapped that creep shot w/ iPhone 🙂

we have hundreds of mc donalds toys

Things are a little different in the East end. They move at a different pace then the West. The people look different. More dogs, wives, kids, lawns, antique shops, less hipsters. I’ve never seen a house like this before. It’s in the East end at Queen and Bertmount Ave on Bertmount, about a block North of Queen. Necessary pull over for photos. I’ve been trying to think up stories all day about the people that live here. The lady that put all these guys up. How long? What does she look like? Her name is Shirley. She won best small garden from the city one year. Best garden. Yes, best GARDEN! Look at this baby and say ‘best small garden’ out loud. There are so many random and tattered toys all over. It’s crazy. We collected Mc Donald’s Happy Meal toys. Mum has hundreds of them in the basement. Boxed. Original packaging. Barbies, Beanie Babies, Playmobile, Lego, Batman, Disney stuff and more. Somebody needs a thingamabob? So creepy. Tahnee keeps freaking out every time she looks at my screen. She said at Christmas Shirley decks the place out in lights. I can’t even imagine. Ok, I can but I don’t want to. These are most definitely different to the type of kids toys you see on Youtube. Quite frankly, I think a child looking at these toys too long would need to go to therapy. Today was as the kind of hot I love when it’s sticky and your skin stays soft all day. I took a watermelon to a bbq in the afternoon. Love summer melons. Thanks for having me guys! Browsed a book at their place with some valuable lessons in it. This was a cute one.
