saturday magazine review: vanity fair march 2011

this is what we call the peanut gallery. this is the closest i’ve come to reading a book lately. that should change but i love the internet so much, why should we not have/do what we love? here we go… sequin lacoste number – yes, totally unconventional chic… like, no way i’m wearing that anywhere but in this very blog post mmmmm’k. will i be wearing this when the weather warms up? i just got ruffle socks from american apparel. i have a fatal attraction to cuteness. i would like to write like this for a brand ex. grey goose. i guess that would come with working via agency?  i am good at creative writing, you don’t even see my good stuff.  someone please let me to show off for you. i would also like to take a dance class soon. i wanna be in magazines top 40 high earners: top 12 are men, first woman, lucky #13, is kristen stewart. team stewart all the way. manniston is #18 and a.jolie #21. james cameron is #1. this list make me smile cause i’m a stewart and i’m canadian. hehe. the man is toast. hypnotic nerd gaze. smartert than i? no. THIS is UGG > Australia. not canadian winter you idiots. stop insulting the brand and yourself by wearing these booties in the snow/slush/rain/winter. it is not working for you, it never will. the end. can i have one of these, pretty please? and thank you. what IS in a name? Leonardo Dicaprio – Appian Way: in Italy, found a road names Appian Way while filming Gangs of New York, “the road on which the Roman Army marched as they set out to conquer the world” he thought a good name for a company starting out. Kevin Spacey – Trigger Street…

i am fit and beautiful and awesome (repeat)

Positive self affirmatrions. Try it. Manifest the life you want and make it happen. When you are done reading this lovely post looking at the pictures here check THIS out hereswhatyouare.com. The other day Raymi took me to The Motion Room for a workout. I’ve not been much of a worker outer the past few years, however, last week I had a very different gym experiece. You know what? I really liked it too. Shirt is from  Me to We in support of Africa, shorts are American Apparel from Bud Camp, socks from AA too. Hipster workout. haha. It was super rad to have someone show you what to do then push you to do it. I enjoyed this ladder thinger. I often make things into dance moves. The young ballerina in me will never die/grow up. Did you ever notice ballerina has the work ‘baller’ in it? Pairs, duet. Good form. I rocked the pushup plank style going down and back. I did such a good job that instead of going plank all the way he made me do pushups in between. Urgh, remind me NOT to try hard with a trainer. You will only end up hurting more. Look at my pipes. I’m huge. Squats too, check them muscles. I died a little post ladder. I dont like normal gyms cause I feel self conscious, and insecure because I don’t really know what to do. It might be different if I had a partner.  I often stick to the treadmill cause it’s self explanitory. The workout here was really fun cause we used different equipment and I had a coach. I think that’s what really makes the difference for me, having someone tell you what to do. (Keep the sub/Dom jokes to yourself, haha) This is what really…

HELP, I’M ALIVE.

Last night was epic. EPIC. Such an awesome time with the girls. I love Emily Haines so hard, we all do. It was me, Jenie, Michelle, Grace and Jess (we are all on the twitter). Hanging out with my sister is the most fun. We are so positive, happy & energetic together, I get super charged. Look out. Ain’t nothin’ gonna break my stride, nobody’s gonna slow me down, oh-no, I got to keep on moving. I have so many great photos from the night. Heaps. The sun setting over the water and the pink sky were the perfect back drop to the music and atmosphere. The place was packed but we hardly noticed anyone else because we were laughing and having so much fun. One dude tried to make friends with us, but we were not having it, he was Snooki’s type. We also saw a couple guidos who really loved Emily and knew the lyrics to every song. All our seats were scattered in different sections but we didn’t go to them once. Instead, we parked our camp on the lawn and danced and sang and threw our arms in the air and screamed. The lawn is really the best place to be. You can relax and lean back or dance in circles. I love that feeling, the one when you hear the music live and the lights shine on the crowd and they reach out and touch your face and you scream. It melts my popsicle. Michelle = babe. She has a fashion blog and she’s got the wicked style. My phone desktop image matches her leopard onesie, that’s why she is posing with phone. Jenie is too cute. Heart melt sandwich. Ater we went to the afterparty @  Parts + Labour for a private Holy Fuck…

annual trinity bellwoods garage sale = great finds

The park is a hub for hipsters, style and creativity and it all rolls out of peoples closets for this sale each year. It’s my fav one to attend and I didn’t know it was on until a impromptu conversation after my lovely brekky at Niche. I picked up this awesome vintage purse from Brazil. All leather and so similar to one that Mum has (Jenie has it at the moment). I was a super hipster and grabbed a Vice mag from American Apparel on my way h0me. Got this sweet little collar and old gloves. They look so elegant! There’s a cool art installation in the park for Luminato right now. Crazy boat thingy you walk through with all these clinitygy-clangity sounds. This is a really crazy week.  It’s NXNEi, MMVA lead in to Sunday, hair appt tomo with Darren, lots of posts to write and heaps to get done. I know I can do it.  I have faith in myself. Good thing I spend so many years partying, staying up late, drinking and working hard…work hard play hard has been good training for this week. Ha! Happy Monday! Love you xo

down by the bay where the blogger mellons glow

I got shot by Erika Ruth about 2 weeks ago. Here are some of the pix. It was a super nice day out, sunny, warm. I was internetting down by the lake in the sunshine. My outfit:  singlet, american apparel bikini, cut off shorts, fishnets, Dr. Marten combat boots, ribbon laces. Then I chilled out on Canada’s largest tall ship, Empire Sandy. It got a little windy as I reflected on my day. This one is my fav. I’ll have the whole set from her later this week. Stoked to see how they look. I take my OWN photo so often, it’s really nice to have someone else do it. THANKS ERIKA! She can take your photo too if you want too visit her blog or tweet her @erikaruthphoto. BTW, if you wanna take my photo sometime just ask ok. Maybe we can work it out. Happy Monday. Sun love ♥ .

clothes on my back, somebody take my picture

On set today for shoot for that MTV magazine I’ve hardly mentioned. I’ll have more details to spill soon. Just trust me that it’s cool exciting and you’re gonna like it. This is that guy, y’know Dan Levy, he hosts The After Show. I was looking at all the beauty clothes from Holts and drooling imagining wearing them. One day I tell ya, one day I’ll get there; dressed from head to toe in my favorite vintage pieces carefully matched with ridiculously beautiful and expensive designer digs. Ah… Until then, I tried on shoes that didn’t fit whilst still wearing American Apparel sport socks. Yeah, whatever. Louboutin studly slingbacks, love you.

that’s a creative way of looking at it. nice hire.

I used to live and hang out in Queen West. The Hipsterville of Toronto. I met lots of hipsters from all over the globe, saw heaps of style and had hipster friends. We’d stay up late at secret hangouts with cool people, bands and models. I was skinny from partying/sleeping and I stayed out late on school nights. Hipsters often wear American Apparel and may be seen reading carrying Vice Magazine. I started reading Vice in Bondi Beach, 2004. I loved it. Bondi had the best style, boy or girl, they all had it. In 2005 American Apparel hired Lauren Phoenix to model tube socks and underwear. I remember getting that issue, she was on the back. It said “Meet Lauren Phoenix…….Look her up on Google. I wanted to know how she got her photo on a magazine and why to Google her. So I Googled and I’ve loved AA & Vice advertising ever since!! Not just because she’s a Toronto born Canadian pornographic actress who you may have seen in adult movies on https://www.hdpornvideo.xxx/?hl=ar, but because AA has made their socks really popular since then. I’m wearing over the knees right now. Creative marketing. I like it. They sponsor hipster bloggers now…like this babe Karla. Very nice idea. Sponsoring bloggers is a good idea for your brand. Find someone who fits your style and pitch them something. I reckon you’re more than bound to get your monies worth.

Wasn’t there long too long but snagged a few jems for sure. Woot! By the way…McDonald’s at Spadina/Queen is closed for reno’s and LCBO at Spadina/King opens Friday! Also saw this Saturday, crazy!

this is for the stylsh ones with a passion for fashion

So, this is quite exciting and big…the FIRST EVER American Apparel rummage sale in Toronto. Get ready to throw some elbows! Prices are up to 85% off! Absolutely everything is under $50 and prices start at $2. Honestly. Can you believe it? It’s free admission and located at 590 King St. West [King & Portland]. It’s on all weekend and for exact times check the Facebook event page. When you get back from the rummage sale with hands full of new gear, empty out your closet and throw your clothes up on shopmyclothes.com. They promote the recycling and reuse of clothes and accessories. I’m all for it. This Toronto based company was started by a friend of mine and told me that 85% of used clothes go unrecycled! That means style is going in the garbage! AH! NO! Most of my really awesome clothes are second hand and I love clothing swaps. I’ve got a stack of photos and stuff to upload to the site this weekend. You’ll start seeing ads around the city and on the subway soon but we know you saw it here first. I love this awesomely-cool-stylish-art-attack by blog friend Gloria writer of Urbanebloc.com. Keep up with other cool Toronto Blog Girls by visiting the site here.

cut copy and paste my love

On Friday night I went to CiRCA for Cut Copy. It was packed. There were heaps of hipsters and cool kids crowding the stage & stairs. I ran into some cool friends and made some new ones also. There was lots of neon, sequins, and anything that might have rocked the eighties. This, I loved. I wore the shiny late night mini skirt from American Apparel in electric purple with a reversible clutch from BettyKiss. I first posted about Cut Copy last summer. They are from Australia and totally rad. I connected the boys later in the evening and snapped a few pix. The band is made up of Dan Whitford , vocals/keyboard/guitar, Tim Hoey on bass/sampler, & Mitchell Scott on drums. They were really nice guys. I’d really like to catch them at a small venue or a house party. Next time!
