May 2, 2012 – Why Don’t You Blog About It? #archives

Hey & welcome to the time machine, it’s 2006! And it’s sunny out!

I have long blonde hair. I work during the week at a fashion company as the Personal Assistant. It’s a bit Devil Wears Prada and I arrive early before my boss where I get her office ready, turn on the computer, pull up the blinds and check for mail or messages. It’s an excellent learning experience, she is hard on me. She needed to be. I’d never worked full time and I was n00b to the city. Her and I go on to become friends and we live happily ever after.

The friends I met on that place from LA have this awesome foundation called Bridle Bash that throws a MASSIVE party on the Bridle Path. I’ve never heard of the Bridle Path or seen any of the mansions. I’m in shock!

I blog about it on August 1, 2006. I write younger then than now.

The Bridle Bash II, what an amazing party. Burton Cummings & the Burton Cummings band were there. It was super hot. The pool was packed with viewers some who include JD from INXS, Miss Canada, Casie & friends and many, many, many more. It was an amazing party, enough said, I was there until the sun came up. The party raised $300,000 for the children of camp Oochigeas. The music was rockin and the people were great. I saw that you could buy tickets from ebay with the starting bid at $1,000!! Damn!

Another friend opens a restaurant on King Street East called Kultura. There’s no sign on the front and it’s really cool. I went to a party during Film Fest and was in the same private lounge area upstairs as Vince Vaughn. He’s really tall. King East seems really far from the place I moved to on the Danforth.

I live on Playter Crescent in a big old Victorian house with my sister and three other girls. I have a pull out cot in one of the living rooms until one of the girls moves out. The house was huge.

I’d move back there and live forever if I could. It was magnificent & bright, 4 Playter.

I read Natalie Dee religiously every day when I get to work. Sometimes throughout the day at her archives and her other blog with her husband, Married to the Sea. Natalie was the first blogger I ever knew. It was that simple pleasure in my day, a place I could escape to and know that every post would make me smile. I still read it along with a zillion other ‘internet people’ who have never met her. Here’s some from 2006.

Question: What do you record on PVR?

I’m trying to take this more seriously this month, video a day thing. Nothing too crazy, just one a day of me talking. I need to prove to myself I can do it and I would love your help. One of my goals this year is to be make more video. We all have the ability to have our own show, we just have to build it. This is practice.

So, if you are out there, if you can hear me, please ask me a question about SOMETHING!

Yesterday I was asked what shows I record on a weekly basis so here’s your answer for May 1, 2012. It’s 15 seconds & filmed on Viddy!

Japan Instrgram app Pick is a whole lotta fun. It’s like the OG Instagram but you can add glitter, bears, bowties, wigs, hats, glasses, messages, glasses, hearts, stars, hearts, and more. Gizmodo wrote about it last week if ya missed it. It’s my big in Japan plan. I wanna go there so bad. See all my supa kawaii photos by visiting naver.jp/casiestewart. My first Japan profile! Other Instagram is here.

If you’re looking for a tasty snack, grind some dark chocolate with sea salt on hot popcorn & mix it up. Delightfully tasty and fairly slim.

Today I learned that “people born in May are more likely to have a spring in their step than those who started life in January” via new research published by Daily Mail UK.

SOME FACTS:

  • Those born between March and August considered themselves luckier than people born between September and February.
  • Lucky “May-borns” include rugby player Jonny Wilkinson, footballer David Beckham and model Jordan.
  • The environmental factors around the birth period, like exposure to sunshine and temperature are considered possible influences on the body’s biological systems.

In the name of spreading sunshine I uploaded a couple videos of my last Mexico trip to Viddy. I’m SO ready for summer to get here so we can all soak up the sunshine and wear less clothes. I have a scarf on as I type this and THAT AIN’T RIGHT.

Enjoy the day. Sending sunshine your way. 🙂

IF YOU ARE HUMAN, COMMENT. LOVE TO HEAR FROM YA.

May 1, 2012 – Looking Back Over The Years #archives

May is my fav month of the year. April showers bring May flowers, it’s time to get summer ready and celebrate my born day. I feel a bit silly making a big deal about my birthday so my sister is planning a little dinner next Tuesday night. You’re welcome to stop by. I’ll post details. I joined Twitter in May 2008 so, May 5th is a cool day too.

I’m gonna give daily videos another go this month along with the Instagram May Photo a Day Challenge. I’m trying to develop a more consistent routine. Anything you’d LIKE to see? Wanna know?

For the fist 7 days of the Month, I’m going to look back at a couple people, places, things & thoughts from each year I’ve been blogging. Then, on the 8th day we celebrate 30 years of my life. Woo hoo! WE ARE YOUNG.

Here We Go, 2005 Throwback:

  • Moved to Toronto. Lived in the Annex at Bathurst & college.
  • Bracelet on my wrist says “CAS” my nickname in Australia.
  • Had a mullet and the first pair of skinny jeans seen in Toronto since the 80’s.
  • That ring was glass & Armani. It was a gift from HighRise Magazine. Remember that mag?

  • Worked at YM Inc. as Assistant to Director of Product Purchasing. First ever job out of Uni. Was lucky to meet someone on the plane home from LA who worked in fashion. Introduced me to the right people. ABC – Always Be Closing, baby.
  • I was pretty obsessed with moving back to Australia. And Myspace. And VICE Magazine.
  • Was publishing lots of poetry on MySpace I wrote at Uni and in college.  Here’s a couple old guys:

Spring Love

Acutely Ironic
A bird writes a sonnet
Sings the sonnet
Out of tune
Across the river
To a loon

– CASIE 2005

  • Best friend was a French speaking flight attendant from Winnipeg. She was a writer too. Writing and fashion consumed our lives and we talked about them over wine. This was before I developed wine allergy. 🙁
  • Saw Annie Hall for the first time.
Remember, you will never be younger than you are today, so don’t hold back, make the most of the day. Do something FUN!

Good morning from the Toronto Beaches. I stayed at Jenie’s place last night and its amazingly quiet and peaceful. Reminds me of this big old house I lived in on the Danforth. Caught an awesome doc yesterday, soaked up some sunshine.

The power is out here right now. Heading home hopefully before my phone dies!

Looks like we’re gonna get some nice sun this week. Today is last day for tickets to Toronto Fashion Incubator 25th anniversary on Thursday. Tickets here.

Enjoy the day!

Save The Mermaids

Found a bunch of pix from my year at Uni in Australia. Living at Bondi Beach was a total dream. I had a BMX, an Aussie surfer BF and spent countless days riding waves & catching rays. It was magical. Had super dark hair for a while too.

Life is such a dream,
<3

My cousin Matthew from NZ.

The Weekend: Sunday Sessions

In Australia there’s this thing called Sunday Sessions that starts in the afternoon, involves music, BBQ, friends and fun. I think Sammy & the boys might start it up this summer.

20120429-140111.jpg

I’m laxing on the balcony reading a movie script in the sun. It’s so lovely out! I’m not sure if it’s windy on ground level cause my balcony blocks it all. My little paradise, balconia. Catching a film for the Hot Docs festival and going to visit my sister later.

Happy Sunday. Have a great session 🙂

Day Dreams

A man watches his life pass before him in this short film produced for the 42 Second Dream Film Festival in Beijing, China 2009. A friend showed me this yesterday. It’s quite beautiful.

What would your last day dream look like? I got to thinking about mine and it never really crossed my mind until, now. I’m 30 in a few days and I never really though about that either.  I’m very happy with my life and things I’ve done but it’s like, this anxiety, it’s creeping out from behind the stutters and trying to scare me with his smile.

20120428-112651.jpg

Good morning, good morning! Went for a early coffee and chatted with Mum while I walked through the park. I planned to sleep in but I could see the sun peeking in, inviting me to go out & play. It’s lovely out!

Planning to get deep into the archives inside my TB drive using my new Ultrabook from Dell. Haven’t been able to go there since switching to Mac & giving mama my PC Netbook. I can’t wait to see what I find. It’s amazing how you forget things as time passes. I started this blog as a journal to keep more memories and it’s totally worked.

I’ll post some of my findings later today. Check this old pic I found cleaning up today. Teenage model, long hair, braces! Ahhh. Don’t laugh.

Textile Fancy + Pop Princess + Toronto Fashion Incubator

I’ve mentioned 3F a couple times over the last month. The brand is new in Canada and I’m on the Board of Directors. Fancy, huh? I felt like ‘Young & The Restless’ joining the board!  The 3F flagship store is at Dundas Square & the company was launched to compliment and integrate the family business KTC (Kazareen Textile Company).

KTC is a leading supplier of apparel and textiles for some huge brands in North-America and Europe. Notable clients are Marks Work Wearhouse (see my posts on Mark’s here!), A&F, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy, and Calvin Klein. They have some agressive growth targets to open 33 stores in the next three years so you can see why I wanted to be part of the action!

The other day they had pop princess Aleesia in the store for a meet & greet with fans. 103.5 was on site broadcasting live too.

Next weekend at Metro Toronto Convention Centre all the girls from America’s Next Top Model will be in town and 3F is one of the Social Media Lounge sponsors. I’ll be backstage hanging out and probably feeling like a midget around all the models. Ha!

In other fashion news, Toronto Fashion Incubator celebrates it’s 25th Anniversary on May 3, next week. I’m on the Social Committee and I’d love to see you there. Get event and tickets  info here.  It’s almost sold out!

Now I am faced with the DAUNTING task of finding something to wear. Have some ideas? Your bff/sister/friend/mum is a fashion designer? LMK. I need to look fabulous!

I can’t believe it’s almost MAY. OH MY GAGA.

HIGHER

I’m going up there. Right on the edge. Cross my heart and hope to die I make it though ok. A wee bit terrified but excited in the same. That’s my favourite feeling, nervous/excited. The kind that makes you get all riled up with excitement yet you’re deeply terrified.

I named him Isaac, after Newton.

Who?! A new someone…

Isaac Newton joins Andy Warhol & James Dean as the important units in my life, my computers. Why Isaac? He’s  “considered by many to be the greatest and most influential scientist who ever lived.” I’ve named one after an artist, one after an actor and I wanted to name this one after a scientist.

Newton talked about  universal gravitationlaws of motion, the universe, attraction and I’m into that. I name my gadgets after inspiring men in history because I spend so much time with them. Technologic boyfriend. They fuel my creativity. Computers are boys names, cameras are girls.

Thanks Dell. I’m not used to using a PC even though I’ve only been Mac for less than a year. Time flies eh? Started a new sketchbook and working on some creative ideas for the year.

Have an Ultrabook, tips, or any questions about the device? LMK.  I’m ready to test it to it’s fullest and compare it to my darling little Macbook Air. Tomorrow I’m giving away those Palladium shoes to some lovely young lady so if you have small feet and would like to me send them to you, leave a comment on the post here. I’ll send them to anyone in the world but will pay for shipping anywhere in North America. 🙂

Spending the night at home w/ Keri Blog, blogging, watching movies and drinking the Sapporo beer I had a few vouchers for.  I’m hoping we don’t dip into the tequila that was delivered today but y’never know! Have an awesome day.

Keep up the hustle. Can’t stop, won’t stop!

Marketing is Dead. Strategy is Dead.

Learned a bunch the last few days at FITC but what really stuck with me was the very last session I went to by Jason Theodor about creativity and how to create more, better different. I have some great notes from the conference I’ll be formulating into a piece an article TAXI. Feeling inspired!

This UK stud is from Tumblr – OH CASIE

Read this article “Marketing is dead” by Kevin Roberts, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide. I’ve been a Saatchi fan for as ling as I can remember. Passion for advertising and design started very young. Anyhoo, here’s an excerpt, read the whole thing on The Drum UK here. I reckon you’ll enjoy it.

“We don’t just live in a VUCA world – a volatile, uncertain, ambiguous and complex world – we live in a super VUCA world. We live in a vibrant world where our kids are connecting to each other and to brands across the world with no money involved. To us this is a world that’s gone crazy.

“Strategy is dead. Who really knows that is going to happen anymore in this super VUCA world? The more time and money you spend devising strategies the more time you are giving you rivals to start eating your lunch.

“Management is dead. To win today you need a culture and an environment where the unreasonable power of creativity thrives. Ideas are today’s currency not strategy. Martin Luther King did not say ‘I have a vision statement’ did he? He had a dream. You have to make sure you have dreams and your brand also needs a dream.”

In other news, posted a bunch of bearded babes to my Pinterest board yesterday. If you’re into that, you’ll be REALLY into it. Enjoy the day!

Adventure & Discovery, Yes Please

Was recently introduced to Palladium boots/shoes by a contact in NYC. They just launched a brand new slim collection so when the email came in, I totally wanted a pair.  Palladium is a French company founded in 1920 to make tires for the aviation industry. I think that’s neat.

One thing that really resonated with me is that for almost a century, Palladium Boots have been about adventure and discovery.  Two things I love about life.

These are my new glasses by Canadian Derek Cardigan for Clearly Contacts, you like?

The Palladium Slim Collection retails from $70-$100and is available at palladiumboots.com In Canada you can get them online or in select retails stores in Ontario & Quebec (I have the list if you are keen). Digging the low-profile version of their classic style,  perfect for this time of year.

I picked two of my fav styles & this is why I think they’re cool:

  • Design elements – rubber outsole and toe cap, in slimmed down versions.
  • Feature premium materials – cotton/hemp blend textile & premium-grade leather (Adds character!)
  • Leather shoes w/ Repreve lining – green fabric made of recycled yarn, wicks moisture away from the foot (so good for summer).
  • All shoes (this collection) have an extra thick cushioned sock liner for cozy comfort under your foot.

EXCITING PART FOR YOU:

The Slim Chukkas in Pool Blue are a little big for me so I’d love to send them to someone special with a size 6 feet. They fit a little big, I’m usually a 5.5-6 (Ex. Docs, Converse) so if you have a 6-7, they’re totally you.

Product specs:

  • FOXING: Jute espadrille-style foxing.
  • SOCKLINER: Super thick molded PU creates a super comfortable stepping ground.
  • MATERIALS: Premium cotton and help upper. 😉
  • LINING: Repreve ® certified recycled yarn is used to weave the Dri-Lex ® lining that wicks moisture and keeps the feet dry.
  • BRANDING: Woven label on the tongue and on the quarter.
  • FEATURES: Waxed round cotton laces.

Want them? Just lemme know.

If there’s a few babes with little same size I’ll pick one using random.org on Friday and send them out Monday.

Enjoy the day.

Birthday Anxiety Setting In …TONIIIIIIGHT.

FML!! WTF? Urghh 🙁

In other news, it seems Jessica Simpson named a shoe after ME! The CASIE! Seriously though right here. Casie, it must be ME, right? Thanks Jessica.

I’ve had a couple pairs of her shoes and they’re quite confortable. Nude wedges are essential for perfect summer wardrobe so I could deff see myself wearing these. I’m sure she’ll send them our RIIIIIIGHT after she has that baby. She’s giving birth in this leopard kaftan. Gorgeous.

Strong Desire to Wander and Travel the World

The photos are up from last week’s Smith Hotels event at the Spoke Club. Was so nice to see everyone, kinda felt like a kick off to spring. This time of year gets super busy with events and things leading up to summer.

Photo cred to Ryan Emberly for these shots and cheers to Marcello for a fun evening. See the full album on Facebook. Hope to cook up somehting cool with the Smith Hotels team. Love you Team Best Fan <3

I’m not sure what this drink was but there was grapefruit, vodka, Campari perhaps? Whatever it was, super refreshing.  Summer, comehither!!

Roger is a legend.  Best conversation of the night happening here 😉

I’m dying to get away to somewhere far. Europe, I have my eyes on you! Next travel spot is Florida in May.

Found this great read today, 55 gentle ways to take care of yourself when you’re busy busy busy. There are SO MANY good things that will energize your soul. I’m trying to catch lots of rest lately. Here’s a sexy song from Lana Del Rey’s unreleased album, Nevada.

Bon nuit!

Encounter With a Cheetah Cub. He Hates Me. RARRRR.

I love the little animals Telus uses in their commercial so when I was in Mexico a few months back. I saw one and for $20 you could hold it. I was like OME LET ME HAVE IT. Yeah, well…

Safe to say, he didn’t like me much. I just found this on my phone today and uploaded it to Viddy. Enjoy haha. It’s awkward. Be happy I shortened it!

In other news, Peacock Parade has a bunch of dresses on sale today, TFC Ticket contest is still on here, and the TripOn contest is still on too. I’m at FITC again causing trouble. 😉

A Video Version of Instagram – VIDDY YO.

Do you know it? Viddy. It’s a video app that integrates with FB timeline and the super short videos (00:15s) are perfect for sharing mini moments. I used to be the #1 Canadian user of 12Seconds TV back before it was bought by AOL. RIP 12seconds 🙁 I love the fun of raw, unedited mini vids that post right to Twitter/FB.

20120424-110148.jpg

There’s all kinds of ‘Instagram‘ style filters you can add to jazz up your Viddy-OHs. I hung out with some of the team and Evan from Viddy at CES in Vegas earlier this year. Thanks Evan for sending some Viddy goodies. Wearing Viddy shirt at FITC today. Let’s see if anyone notices 😉

COMMUNITY 54 – From NY To Parkdale

Stopped by the Community 54 space in Parkdale the other day (Queen west of Dufferin). It was opened a couple months ago and features a wide mix of vintage & new clothes with a pile of old school artifacts you might find at granddad’s garage sale. I picked up a sweet & long vintage dress for summer. Wore it to Canadian Club Whisky tour.

The Official:

Community 54 is your neighborhood lifestyle boutique inspiring nostalgia through creativity. From classic arcade games and vintage street wear, to indie clothing brands and contemporary art, our space is a destination for curators of unique collectibles. It’s a place where culture mavens and social connectors interact with local artists and designers. First established in the Lower East Side of Manhattan by partners Daymon Green and Jason Jacobs, Community 54’s two locations are a manifestation of years of sharing ideas and a common entrepreneurial drive. (Toronto Partners are Trung Hoang & Joel Reilly)

In other news, The Condo Store is giving away 2 pairs of Toronto FC Tickets courtesy of TriTickets. ENTER HERE ON FACEBOOK. If you win, take me! I freaking LOVE the TFC. Been twice and the fans are freaking CRAY. I posted a few vids & photos from past TFC games etc here.

Last year one of the hot young players sent me a personal message 🙂 Go win those TICKETS.
On that note, I’m outta here & off to the ladies networking lunch for FITC!

HUZZAHHHHH!

Everyone talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it.

It’s hard to deny the fact that we might be facing snow today. Actually, it IS fact and there is nothing I can do about it. Title is a quote by Mark Twain which I’m sure you knew already. When ever someone complains about the weather, this quote runs through my head until I can’t hear them anymore. There’s no point in complaining! I reckon it’s my last chance to don my favourite winter wear and go to bed early (aka hibernate).

20120423-083149.jpg

The sky looks grey and gloomy. I’m brewing up a sage tea to gargle with for the sore throat I woke up with. I managed to avoid getting sick all winter but alas, I am a mere mortal and it got me. Here’s  Mum’s sage tea remedy for sore throat and thyme bath for colds.

My BFF Keri Blog came back to town yesterday. I’M SO GLAD SHE’S BACK. We watched the show Rogers did on me last month. I can’t wait to show you once I get it online.

20120423-083418.jpg

I’m at FITC (Future. Innovation. Technology. Creativity.) this week from Mon-Wed. The conference features over 70 renowned digital creators from around the globe sharing knowledge of the best and brightest in the digital space. It’s my second year as a Digital Corespondent for TAXI, one of the worlds leading creative agencies. See last year’s writeup on designtaxi.com and this blog.

Planning to put on my glasses & nerdy disguise to soak up as much info as I can. It’s going to be a couple quiet days while I get my voice back and kick this cold. I stayed in all weekend with a movie marathon trying to recharge my batteries but it seems my body is telling me to chill out. I guess it’s a good thing summer isn’t quite here yet.

Have an awesome day 🙂

P.S. Did you notice the changes I made to sidebar, added Instagram, Pinterest, subscribe by email, and Tumblr feed. You like?

Relax & Recharge Dem Batteries, Girl.

I’ve been having a lovely relaxing day at home. I love Saturdays with no plans but home and the couch. Repaired some furniture, watched a few movies, sorted an array of business cards, and played Barbies with a mini munchkin. Movie marathon currently in progress so far we watched Hard Candy w/ Ellen Page, a psycho thriller and Waynes World. Next up looking for rom com and some foreign film to remind me of travelling.

These photos are from my  trip to our nations’s capital for Ottawa Fashion Week earlier this year. Have been using my camera less since I switched to iPhone and forgot about all kinds photos on it. Doh!

In the spirit of being Canadian, this video sums up all aI learned about prohibition on my trip to the Canadian Club HQ last month. The infographc is on PR newswire and you can read some of the other kids write-ups about the tour on Sidewalk Hustle and Notable.ca.

It was done by the same film studio that did the vid I was in for Puma last year, 1188 Films.  We had so much fun with this campaign, celebrating After Hours Athletes. Hey, sometimes a victory is making last call 😉 This vid was the promo for the event, which was one of my fav parties ever. See the party vid on Puma’s YouTube.

Have an awesome day!

Art Gallery of Ontario – Massive Gala

I was shocked at just how actually massive the event was last night. There were multiple floors, rooms, interactive art displays and lots of suits.

In support of art, I decided to make my hair really stand out by adding lots of colour. I was quite surprised there weren’t more ‘artistic’ looking people, it was very corporate. Fun though!

I LOVE the AGO and used to be gallery member. Thinking I’ll get a new membership again. It’ a great spot to hang out, work or escape to a world surrounded by creative works of art. It’s inspiring! Lots of posts about it in the archives, one of my favs here. Thanks Becca for these shots and the lovely Lauren for having me as her date. Read more about the event & see who was there on She Does the City.

Exotic Hotels in Far Away Places…

Last night I met the team behind boutique hotel booking brand Smith Hotels. They transformed the Spoke Club gallery into a divine experience with a lavish bed, cozy bath robes, delicious mixed drinks & a catered to a crowd of Toronto media & socialites. I’ve got a meeting with them later today and hope it sparks a budding travel relationship! Photos from the event will be up soon. These are all from iPhone!

Everyone got a copy of their ‘Italy’ hotel collection book and MY GOD, I want to go to Itay even more now. SO many beautiful places to explore, discover and rest your head. For now, I’ll enoy my own slice of paradise I like to call, Balconia!

Enjoy the day! Hope it’s beautiful & sunny wherever you are. Oh hey, the Skydome Rogers Centre just opened. First time I’ve seen the turf this Spring!
