Happy Halloween

I wish you all a very Happy Halloween. I love to dress up and today is one of my most favorite days of the year. Always has been! I am at work in Zombie gear today. I called Mum and she’s at work as a Butcher. Totally hot!

This Pho-tastic one is for Inna!

I changed my status to ‘Casie is having pho for lunch today.’ I love, love, love pho. I have it AT LEAST one a week.

My friend Inna asked if I was making it myself and to share recipe. I’ve never made pho. I’m sure it’s complicated and for $4.99 at the pho place by my work, I’d rather just order it. However, I may decide to make a pho so I browsed online for a recipe and found one. This is for you Inna!!

Prep time is 15 minutes and cook time is 45 minutes.

What you need:

  • Beef Broth:
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 2-inch stick ginger
  • 2 pounds beef bones
  • 12 cups water
  • 6 star anise
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 pound lean, tender beef
  • Noodles:
  • 1 16-ounce package dry, flat rice noodles (pho)
  • Garnish:
  • 3 scallions, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 10 cilantro sprigs, finely chopped
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 10 sprigs basil
  • 10 sprigs fresh cilantro (ngo gai)
  • fresh red or green Chile pepper, thinly sliced
  • Accompaniments
  • lime or lemon quarters
  • fish sauce
  • hoisin sauce
  • hot chili sauce

Prep:
Broil onion and ginger until they look burned. Using back of cleaver, smash the ginger and set aside.
Wash beef bones, place in a large soup pot and add water to cover. Bring to a boil and immediately pour off this “first boiling” water and discard. Add another 12 cups of fresh water and again bring to a boil. Skim off foam. Add the broiled onion and ginger, star anise, salt and sugar. Over medium-low heat, simmer for 30 minutes. Slice raw beef into thin strips and set aside.
Remove bones from broth and strain out vegetables and seasonings. Soak noodles in cold water for 10 minutes. Drain. In a soup pot bring two quarts fresh water to a boil. Add drained noodles and cook seven minutes at a rolling boil, stirring occasionally until noodles are tender.
Rinse noodles under cold running water and set aside.
Return the broth to a boil over high heat.

To serve: Divide noodles among 4 to 6 large individual serving bowls. Arrange thinly sliced raw beef, scallions, onion, and cilantro on top. Pour boiling hot broth to cover noodles and serve immediately. The boiling broth will cook the thin slices of beef. Pho is always accompanied by bean sprouts, basil leaves, cilantro and chili pepper. Serve with lime and lemon quarters, fish sauce, hoisin sauce and hot chili sauce. Serves 4 to 6.

My Pearly Whites

Today I received a nice little package of Listerine Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips from my friends at Matchstick.
I read the instructions and excitedly put the strip on my teeth. I am wearing it now. It tingles a bit and tastes like mint. A very ‘Listeriney ‘ (made that one up!) taste.

It seem like it is kinda dissolving, it takes about 10-15 minutes. I’d like to use the strips all day and make my teeth uber white, super fast. I really need to find a Toronto Dentist now I think about it! I’m due for a visit.
I remember I fell asleep with a Crest strip on once. I woke up, had a glass of water and screamed, my teeth were SOOOOOO sensitive. I surely do not recommend sleeping with white strips on. It hurts.

My teeth are already pretty white so I’m not sure how the strips will work on me. Maybe my teeth will start glowing! One of my friends had her teeth whitened at a Dentist Fort Wayne so we have been sharing teeth whitening tips. Hopefully mine will be as bright as hers one day. That would be awesome. Maybe if I had kept my teeth in good condition from the start and had followed advice from my dentist in Glen Rock, perhaps I wouldn’t be in need of the strips but here we are…

Now my teeth are looking a little whiter, I have been seriously contemplating treating myself to some Invisalign aligners. I have always wanted straighter teeth and therefore I think that now could be the right time to do something about it. An old colleague of mine who lives in Arizona recently had her Invisalign fitted by a Dentist in Yuma so I might have to ask her for some advice.

For now though, despite the sensitivity, I am happy with the results of my strips. However, I would love some strips with sparkles in them. Wouldn’t that be lovely!

The goop on my teeth is still there and feels squishy. It’s not so bad though. I think these guys are a-ok!!

Today, it happened.

It snowed on my jacket over lunch.I went to Starbucks, got the Globe and read many things. There was a Porter Pilot speaking about some Porter stuff to his mates. I read a few obituaries and had a slice of lemon poppy loaf. It was very windy and cold as I walked back to the office. Then the snow started coming sideways and very light. It landed on my jacket.

Sketches: Part I

I drew this sketch. It is called ‘Skin Trade: pornstars are entrepreneurs’. I have it posted on my wall at home and I thought, why not post it here. I was thinking to myself how really, if you can make money selling your body as you may wish to, you are an entrepreneur. This is not something that I have done nor have any desire to. I was just thinking in general. The Free Dictionary online defines an entrepreneur as “A person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture.” Thus, I would say I am correct.
This is a sketch I did of my bike. It really is my pride and joy. Well, it was, until she got a flat tire because I left her in a bad hood over night . Now she’s not going for any rides. Next summer, this beauty will be back on the road and all over downtown. Just how she likes it.

Oh, What to be on Halloween?

I was a sexy pirate, but what should I be next? I went out as a Zombie and was sexier than the rest! I’ve been out as an Olsen with my sister Mary Kate. I’ve been a nasty nun . I was drunk with pregnant traits. I’ve been a super hero a ghost and a witch. I was an old lady and she was a sexy bitch. I don’t know what to wear, I’m pulling out my hair!!

Oh, what to be on Halloween!!

winter is coming

you know its time for winter
when the wooly socks come out
your hats and mits and scarves and such
and lots of little pouts

you know its time for winter
when the snow is on the ground
the streets are filled with slush
and your spirit feels a frown

you know its time for winter
when you’re oh so bundled up
trying to keep warm inside
hot coffee in your cup

you know its time for winter
when holidays roll around
you gather with your family
and many drinks go down

you know its time for spring
when the flowers start to bloom
love is in the air
and sunshine fills the room

Looking Good All Over, Barry.

A dear friend notified me of something very interesting going on at www.economist.com. You can login as a member of the site (or signup!), choose your country and pick who you would vote for in the upcoming US Election. It is evident by all my posts that I’ve got a thing for Obama. I was pleased and surprised to see that the whole world, the ones whom are interested in The Economist, would vote for Obama as well.

The countries that chose McCain are mainly concentrated in one part of the world and McCain leads in Iraq, of all countries, with 67% of the vote. Interesting point maybe? In Canada the favorite is clear, 89% of Canadians that have voted online, vote for Obama. the polls are refreshed every 3 hours and overall there are 9,120 votes for Obama and only 270 for McCain.Check it out if you find it interesting by clicking the links or the map.

Just Dance!

Tonight I’m taking my sister to see a show that I am quite excited about. The show is entitled “Bloodletting and other pleasant things” by Tony Chong at Dancemakers Centre for Creation. I’m quite looking forward to it. I don’t have much knowledge about the show yet however you will all know what I think about it tomorrow! It is in the Distillery and starts at 8pm if you wanna come with us. I’m looking forward to hot bodies dressed in minimal clothing and a roller coaster of emotion expressed through contemporary dance. My sis and I have always been involved in dancing. We both started at the age of 3 with Meyerhofer Dance Academy in our home town and we both had fake eyelashes and hairpieces at 5 years old. We travelled to New York, Myrtle Beach, around Ontario competing in many, many competitions. With that thought, the two of us are good critics for tonight’s show.

Recipe for Brain Cancer

take a kid, add a mobile phone, use it for a few years…
study shows that Cancer may develop

I came across this article today addressing links between children, cell phones and the development of brain cancer. I found it to be informative. You can read the entire article by clicking on the editor’s name below.

“Children and teenagers are five times more likely to get brain cancer if they use mobile phones, startling new research indicates.

The study, experts say, raises fears that today’s young people may suffer an “epidemic” of the disease in later life. At least nine out of 10 British 16-year-olds have their own handset, as do more than 40 per cent of primary schoolchildren.

Yet investigating dangers to the young has been omitted from a massive £3.1m British investigation of the risks of cancer from using mobile phones, launched this year, even though the official Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research (MTHR) Programme – which is conducting it – admits that the issue is of the “highest priority”. If anything, we should learn from this and realise that the use of mobile phones could be damagerous to our health. There are a few things that we can do to protect our health at least. The first and most obvious is to reduce the use of mobile phones, whilst another thing that people could look to is EMF Protection as well.

Despite recommendations of an official report that the use of mobiles by children should be “minimized”, the Government has done almost nothing to discourage it”

A Fish Story from Jeff Bridges

I was reading Jeff Bridges intersting site and blog and I came across a lovely little fish story to share.

A guy who lives at Lake Conroe (50 miles north of Houston ) saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange in the lake and went to investigate.

It turned out to be a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a basketball which became stuck in its mouth!!

The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive, but unable to because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface.

The guy tried numerous times to get the ball out, but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate it and release the hungry catfish.

You probably wouldn’t have believed this, if you hadn’t seen the following pictures…

He said.
Be kinder than necessary ’cause everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
And that is just why I posted it. Hope you enjoyed it too.

Give Climate a Chance

I watched this ad and could not help but be touched by it.I saw it on Moby’s blog, he writes alot. It makes me feel sad more than anything to think about the polar bears and how it affects them and there is nothing that THEY can actually do. We have to. Will we be able to save them from becoming extinct?

I believe that fighting Global Warming is extremely important. Here is a link to an article on the
Environmental Defense Fund site about ‘Global Warming Myths and Facts‘. I found it to be quite interesting, including the PDF with all the signatures form the Gleneagles G8 Summit in 2005.

that’s a scary thought

I was on Facebook this morning and I saw this pic in Armand Diego‘s album “NYC: Outsiders NY, VMAN party and the KOOL AID MAN”. Scarrrry thought. I’m considering being Sara Palin Zombie. I bet that would be a little too scary and I’d rather not give her the satisfaction of having me be her. Not that she would ever know or care but if I put it on the internet she could see it and comment on it. What if ‘Casie the Zombie Palin‘ became the new ‘Joe the Plumber‘.

Like, seriously, am I really ready for that. Is she? Is anyone? I don’t think so. But…to
morrow is another day that is part of Halloween Week in the Wonderful World of Casie.
I just found this out. Todd Mitchell Palin (born September 6, 1964)[3] is an American oil field production operator and the current First Gentleman (self-styled “First Dude”)[4] of Alaska. He has taken some college courses but does not have a degree. Gregg Erickson, columnist for the Anchorage Daily News, said that Palin “obviously plays an important role … I’ve seen him in the governor’s office, and I know she’s conducted interviews in the governor’s office with him present.” Mr. Palin is copied on e-mails dealing with official state business. He helped write the state budget, has been involved in personnel matters, and has called lawmakers when he or his wife have disagreed with what they have done.” Check Wikipedia.

write on. this is a run on.

today i am feeling a bit of a cold and possibly by the news reports with all the tragedy and gun fights that happened last night some others are feeling cold too i’m staying in all day and i’m wearing a pirate shirt and i put the zombie tattoo on again last night because i love it i’ve got pen and paper and links in my fingers to share and i’m going to write about things that i like because that is what like to do and it makes me happy when i do it and i’m glad to know that other people like reading it because there is nothing more fun than making art and sharing it with people you like andy warhol told me once that being good in business is the best kind of art and i totally agree with that its the best and most free that you can be just creating things and putting it out there

Sexy Fucking Shit Vic.

Miss Posh scored the Bridal cover of Indian Vogue this month. She’s so fucking hot man. The hairpiece is nice in the photo. I think she could have had some more jewels, makeup & cultural accessories. She is a bride after all. I wonder if she had any henna on her hands? That’s my favorite! My friend from work got engaged and she had the most beautiful ring ceremony in Indian with all the accessories.
This a lovely photo of her:

Gotcha.

Something spooky was happening last night…Big spiders triumphant in the night crawling, creeping across the corridor on the crackling floor . I grasped my gadget and gladly grabbed the little bugger as he danced along my arm trying to get higher. I would not let him. I refused to have him in my head. I refused to let anyone knock me dead. His little legs dangled and danced as I tossed him into the night sky. What flight may take him soaring high? It is the wind. It is the moon. Little spider, I will see you soon.

I love tattoos. Especially stick on ones.

i google had some good ones today.

One of my Fav Things

One of my Fav Things. Found it at a garage sale on Playter Crescent around Danforth, my old hood. The Mum at the house worked on movie sets and had heaps of unused costume shiite. It was totally rad. I wonder where this jem may have traveled!!!:

She knew one day she would own enough clothes
and everything in her life would be better.”
