Everyone talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it.

It’s hard to deny the fact that we might be facing snow today. Actually, it IS fact and there is nothing I can do about it. Title is a quote by Mark Twain which I’m sure you knew already. When ever someone complains about the weather, this quote runs through my head until I can’t hear them anymore. There’s no point in complaining! I reckon it’s my last chance to don my favourite winter wear and go to bed early (aka hibernate). The sky looks grey and gloomy. I’m brewing up a sage tea to gargle with for the sore throat I woke up with. I managed to avoid getting sick all winter but alas, I am a mere mortal and it got me. Here’s  Mum’s sage tea remedy for sore throat and thyme bath for colds. THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!  Found these old photos of Mum & Dad. Where exactly is this one with the CN tower. I think it’s right near my place? Turned my living room into a DIY studio and made a few accessories. My BFF Keri Blog came back to town yesterday. I’M SO GLAD SHE’S BACK. We watched the show Rogers did on me last month. I can’t wait to show you once I get it online. I’m at FITC (Future. Innovation. Technology. Creativity.) this week from Mon-Wed. The conference features over 70 renowned digital creators from around the globe sharing knowledge of the best and brightest in the digital space. It’s my second year as a Digital Corespondent for TAXI, one of the worlds leading creative agencies. See last year’s writeup on designtaxi.com and this blog. Planning to put on my glasses & nerdy disguise to soak up as much info as I can. It’s going to be a couple quiet days while I get my…

BRIDLE BASH! July, 28th 2012

No, it doesn’t have anything to do with weddings! Bridle Bash is an awesome party put on by the Bridle Bash Foundation who I’ve been friends with for almost ten years. This summer, the party will once again be rocking one of Toronto’s most elite neighbourhoods, the Bridle Path. Party date is July, 28th. At the last one I attended my siser and I took over a canoe, inside the pool and made the society page of The Globe & Mail: I’m volunteering my time to help out the team with social media & run the twitter. I’d love you to follow & tweet with me at @BridleBash. We’re not decided on who will be rocking the stage yet BUT in lieu of the fee for an awesome band, the Foundation is planning to donate $150,000 to the charity of their choice. Video from BB IV in 2010:  Here’s a wee bit from the press release (read it here): Bridle Bash parties have always featured top-notch talent, with previous parties featuring amazing entertainers such as Burton Cummings, former Supremes singer Mary Wilson, and legendary Motown blues band the Funk Brothers. This year, the foundation is looking for a high-calibre musical act to headline Bridle Bash V, taking place on July 28. In exchange for this one-night engagement, the Bridle Bash Foundation will donate $150,000 to the musician or band’s favourite charity. Hosted on the vast grounds of a private home on Toronto’s exclusive Bridle Path, the Bridle Bash stands apart from other fundraisers. Guests arrive in shorts and jeans, and many get into their bathing suits to watch the band from the pool. But the best thing about the Bridle Bash is the money it raises for great causes. I’ll be doing some super fun giveaways for tickets closer to July. The…

Picking the Right Glasses, for Your Face!

I’m a huge fan of wearing glasses. They’re a statement piece for your face and can change a somewhat boring outfit into something with a lot more style. I’ve had glasses since my first eye checkup in high school. They were my first ever high end designer item too. I saw a pair of Gucci frames before I went in to get my eyes checked, as we were wrapping up my appointment the doctor told my my eyes were near perfect. You think a girl would be happy about that, no, I wanted those GUCCI GLASSES! Fortunate for fashion, I was able to get them in the weakest possible prescription and Mum & I went home happy after placing the order. Now that I’m grown up (sounds so weird to say that, but anyways) I have to get my own glasses. A good price and easy shopping experience are important. Yesterday I chatted with Derek Derek Desierto’s about his top picks top picks for the spring and summer. Derek is a Canadian celebrity eyeglass stylist and the in-house designer for Clearlycontacts.ca. Listen here: Derek styled my face with the handy Virtual Mirror I told you about in January.  In our short talk I learned that you should pick glasses that are the opposite shape of your face ex. square face, round glasses etc. These are a few of his latest designs w/ Clearly Contacts. Any guesses which ones I picked before looking two inches down the page? (Worst guessing game ever, I know) I went for the fashionable & feminine Birch: They should arrive next week and I will do an unboxing & try them on for you style like I did last time. Follow Derek & I on Twitter at @mrdesierto & @casiestewart.  Check out this TOTALLY rad commercial for HTC that…

Going Home

Older people always tell you ‘time goes fast then’ you get older and you become that person. It’s true. Both things. When I get really drained from life & the city I like going back to my home town. I grew up in Cambridge, Ontario, I went there this weekend. Have you been? It’s quite lovely, and quiet and you can see way more stars. I have a group of friends there that I always see. One even lives across the street in Toronto but I pretty much only get together him when we’re all home for a holiday. It’s awesome. No matter how tired I get from travel, events, work life, nothing reenergizes me like some home cooking and chatting at a familiar place with the crew.  Other great re-energizers are yoga and cottages. This weekend has for once (in a longish while) been really relaxing. Saturday night I had a hot tub and went to bed early. Friday night I had poutine and some serious Draw Something. Add me: casiestewart.  We all get so busy and technology is such a part of our lives that it’s really hard to shut off. Ok not for everyoneeeee but lots of us. Especially me. I’m sitting in my old room at Mum’s as I wrote this and it’s quite magical how inspiring it is for creativity. Tonight her and I went on a date to see Hunger Games and I loved it; girls night AND the actual movie. Have you seen it? The fashion made me really excited for Halloween. Or whenever! Look at those lashes and hair. I love this, I do. Hat gloves, earings, eyebrows, lipstick. I know I’m late to the boat but sheesh, why didn’t anyone inform me of this. There was even love story! The movie used 35 full-time makeup artists. And there were…

There’s something sacred about reading a blog…

“There’s something sacred about reading a blog post on someone else’s site. It’s like visiting a friend’s house for a quick meal ’round the breakfast table. It’s personal — you’re in their space, and the environment is uniquely suited for idea exchange and uninterrupted conversation. In many ways, we should be treating our blogs like our breakfast tables. Be welcoming & gracious when you host, and kind & respectful when visiting.” – Trent Walton Thanks Kate for sharing this quote. This month marks SEVEN years I’ve been blog writing and I’m pretty proud of that. It started out as a journal of “people, places, things & thoughts in an attempt to keep more memories” and it’s done that and so much more. See original Blogspot blog here. It’s opened up doors to things I only ever dreamed about doing and allowed me to connect with amazing people all over the world. I love opening this window to my life and sharing it with you. Thank you for being part of my (this is) my life. I’ve had a slew of different jobs in fashion, tech, and entertainment which have all shaped the person I am now. Many moons ago I found out that Martha Stewart started her empire at her kitchen table. Just like her and many entrepreneurs, I started there too. I would sit for hours and create things. One of the first companies I started was Kitchen Table Productions in 2005. I wasn’t sure what I was gong to do exactly, but I knew we would be producing things and they would creative, they would be media. I’ve always looked up to Martha in the way that she has branded herself in so  many areas, product lines and really grabbed business by the reins. Never mind the short term she spent in jail! I…
