Take a Different Look, See Things Differently

Had a good day working at home yesterday. Finished it off with a bevy downstairs at the Fox with Shan. My trend of winter hibernating has a bit of a new meaning now that I have to go less than 20 steps to a place where real humans hang out. Arrived there with two day old hair in a headband, huge Nana sweater, baggy harem pants from Raymi and an over sized fur. Trust me it sounds more glam than it looked. Man repelling hard. Watched a few episodes of United Stated of Tara on Netflix when I got home and discovered this cool thing from Google Earth. Check out these cool interactive polar panorama images. Nana’s old house in New Zealand: Napier Road, Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui. Behind Nana’s house are these massive windmills and huge hills like in Lord of the Rings,. My old house on Curlewis in Bondi Beach, Australia. It was a fave min ute walk from the beach. I loved living there. You might love this photo, depending what you’re into. 😉 Been thinking heaps about moving back there. Some days the desire is so strong. Yesterday was one of them. The house I live in until I was 21 in Cambridge. Condo city, heaps of tall glass buildings, concrete jungle and the CN Tower. I love this city, it will always be home no matter where I end up. Check out this creepy “Like a Doll” shoot I saw on Valfre’s blog. Man I love that girl. I don’t know her but I love her style and creativity.  She posts the cutest things and I really rad drawings. Isn’t it cool how you get to know a blogger through their creative expression? Starting to plan things for SXSW in March. Super stoked to go, I’ve been dreaming…

no, you can’t borrow my book. if you like it go buy it.

This is one of my most favbourite books and I totally thought I lent it to someone. So glad I found it, I’ve been mad at myself for months. MAD, angry. Angry like the wake up after you were so wasted you don’t remember what you did and your BFF is mad at you because you did something stupid. (As if NONE of you have ever had that happen?) It’s an inspiring book. My copy is very special because it is filled with notes and drawings I did. It’s writted by Paul Arden. He is a creative genius who worked with Saatchi & Saatchi for over 15 years and did some really awesome ad campaigns. I became obsessed with PHAIDON Publishing after I found this book which lead into an obsession with Saatchi. Safe to say, I was pretty stoked to work with the Toronto Saatchi office for the Toyota car recenetly. THIS: I was so obsessed I wrote a letter to Roger Kennedy the Creative Director of Art and Design, Saatchi & Saatchi in the UK. I will have to dig that up because I bet reading it now & thinking of my former self would be quite charming or potentially inspiring/hilarious. Creativity & smartness are the way to my heart. I picked up the book second hand at Gertrude & Alice, this darling little book shop on Hall Street in Bondi Beach, Australia. Why anyone would discard it is BEYONE me. It was my favourite spot, so old & little and right beseide Le Paris-Go my fav French cafe. It was the ultimate hipster hangout before cool kids were called hipsters (was there 2004). I worked up the street at Vibes Boutique. I’ve lent so many books outand almost al  the time, they don’t come back. If you…

tell me your fear? ok, it’s everyone here.

I keep these in my room. If I’m being emo I look at them. It’s a fun game to sort through the things you have already done,  motivating to look at the others. What are you doing today to inspire yourself? I’m about to go for a long walk in the sunshine. Looks real pretty out there today. Snow next door is melting fast. I reckon one last hurrah before it starts warming up. Fingers crossed. I’m so excited for summer. This is me when Ilived in Bondi Beach Australia. I was so skinny, I hardly ever ate and spent every minute I could at the beach. Ah, that was the life. Workout at The Motion Room tomorrow, beach body is comin’ back. Imagine being a cat. This is Sammy working/being cute. I got her skinny side…her head. Aaaahahah. Caught ‘The Stand’ on MuchMusic yesterday by Mother Mother. That’s where title of this post comes from, I like it. Love them too. Tomorrow after my workout I have a photoshoot that will take up most the night. Looking forward to it. Been a few months since I had new photos taken.Ok, time to get off this unit and GO OUTSIDE! Ya, Spring Fever!

up up here we go where we stop nobody knows

jamming to this right now, play it if you got sound or you feel like jammin’ too… I was laughing in this photo. I had noticed after a couple camera snaps there was a few people looking. I saw someone turn their eyes back to the road and they were smiling. It made me smile. I love taking so many photos, I feel like a tourist every day in this awesome city. Wore my docs again today. Man, I really forgot how confortable they are. I got them in the summer from the Doc Marten store on Queen Street. They are the Triumph style and She Does the City wrote about them being the awesomest boot ever. Didn’t even know that when I got ’em. WIN! Today for the first time I noticed a street sign in Union Station for Brookfield Place. It reminded be of this legendary brand new appartment building I lived in at 15 Brickfield Street in Sydney Australia back in 2004. Well to be honest with you, it was a suberb of Sydney called Paramatta. Spent about 20 min just now Google map-walking around the streets. After Paramatta for a couple months I ditched that place and moved to Bondi Beach. It’s beautiful there…ah, memories. This made the front of all the city’s papers today I’m sure. When I saw the caption “love you forever” it only reminded me of the book by Robert Munsch and Mum reading it to me. It was my fav growing up. Miss you Mum. Nice chatting on Skype today ♥ I hardly read the Metro. It’s quite a ‘subway’ thing for me. I saw this little ditty with Tweets  about chosing a job you love.  I worked real hard to get here. That’s what it takes.  It’s not easy but…

no smiling allowed missy, wanna see your serious face

Got up early and filled out my passport application. Photos later this afternoon. I need to renew my Canadian before I ship off to FLO-RIDA next month. Stoked. This little lady is due for a vacay! Wearing jeans today, rarely ever wear jeans (or pants). These babies are from a shop I worked at in Bondi Beach. I loved that job & beach side surfy life. Loving my new photo spot in the morning, it’s SO sunny. New Converse today too. I usually pick up a new pair in the spring time so I can wear them out during the Spring and draw on them in the park in the Summer. My team at work is going to the AGO this afternoon. Remember how much I used to go the AGO? I’ve got a membership but haven’t been in ages. Quite looking forward to it. I hope you enjoy the day. GLEE is on tonight! YESSSSSSSS. Ok. Bye 🙂

isn’t she just the cutest thing

Alex and Sabrina went to a Prom Party last night. Love PROM.  There was no real prom, it was just the party. So fun! She came to me in the morning looking for something jazzy to wear. As her stylist, I knew this would be no PROM-lem. Alex was wearing her original prom dress so I knew Sabrina needed to look like a beaut. Styled her up and took her photo. I braid her hair sometimes too, like a Barbie. Skirt – Kensington (Princess Party) Top – Elastic sequin tubetop – yard sale Bondi Beach, Australia Hair – $8 Aldo flower headband

that’s a creative way of looking at it. nice hire.

I used to live and hang out in Queen West. The Hipsterville of Toronto. I met lots of hipsters from all over the globe, saw heaps of style and had hipster friends. We’d stay up late at secret hangouts with cool people, bands and models. I was skinny from partying/sleeping and I stayed out late on school nights. Hipsters often wear American Apparel and may be seen reading carrying Vice Magazine. I started reading Vice in Bondi Beach, 2004. I loved it. Bondi had the best style, boy or girl, they all had it. In 2005 American Apparel hired Lauren Phoenix to model tube socks and underwear. I remember getting that issue, she was on the back. It said “Meet Lauren Phoenix…….Look her up on Google. I wanted to know how she got her photo on a magazine and why to Google her. So I Googled and I’ve loved AA & Vice advertising ever since!! Not just because she’s a Toronto born Canadian pornographic actress who you may have seen in adult movies on https://www.hdpornvideo.xxx/?hl=ar, but because AA has made their socks really popular since then. I’m wearing over the knees right now. Creative marketing. I like it. They sponsor hipster bloggers now…like this babe Karla. Very nice idea. Sponsoring bloggers is a good idea for your brand. Find someone who fits your style and pitch them something. I reckon you’re more than bound to get your monies worth.

you make me happy when skies are grey

Woke up to a beautiful sunshine this morning. It doesn’t matter what happens in the day if I wake up and see a beautiful sunrise, I’m happy. It’s just so pretty. Remember when I posted about Movember? How are your faces growing? Good? Nasty? I hope you’ve got those babies groomed cause this Mo Sista is a JUDGE at the Toronto Movember Gala at the Kool Haus. Starts at 8pm, be there and find me if you want to win a prizey-prize. One of my Tweeps Gregory Alan Elliott told me he left a poem for me somewhere downtown and if I found it I win a  prize. Is this it? Did i find it? Ooooh me loves prizes! I’ve written lots of poems. Did you know that when I was 16 I wrote and published an Anthology of Poetry and prose called JEANS [sorry it’s not online anywhere yet, I was still a book/pen/pencil girl]. A friend and I started a publishing company and then won young entrepreneur of my city. Fancy that! This is one of my most favorites, I wrote it at 7am walking along Bondi Beach in 2004. Enjoy & have a wonderful day! As the waves crashed on the shore the wind washed them away And was I walked along the sand I felt I could not stray For I was walking towards the sun And it was a brand new day

it’s great to be alive

Watched Glee last night, ok, funny but too much singing is a no for me. I get annoyed. Watched Eastwick too. Picasa new download, face recognition through Google now. Whoa, awesome.First official day of waking up to a new view in a new house and I love it. Last time I lived this close to water, with a view (besides living on the opposite side of this building) I was in Bondi Beach, Australia. It was a very, very happy time in my life. I feel like I’m revisiting that happiness again. Made this from my bed: Day one of life on the South side on 12seconds.tv

hey shazza, let’s go to maccas

Just because you are in Australia, doesn’t mean you can wear your bathing suit EVERYWHERE. When we got there we thought that it was a-ok so we went all over the place dressed like this. The ferry, subway, lunch, Opera House. Really obvious that you’re a tourist if you do that. Beach walk from Bondi Beach – Coogee Beach.Pretty birds on my window.Again, in bathing suits. haha This is us getting groceries. We pushed the cart home with our umbrellas. This doesn’t make you look like a tourist, but rather an idiot. Oh, what fun we had! Opera House & Harbour Bridge from me.
