SummerWorks Performance Festival: Peachy Coochy at the Performance Bar

I subscribe to the Say Media blog and truly love the Venn diagrams that come every Friday morning. This one is from one of my favourite books “Steal Like An Artist”. Tomorrow night, 9:30pm at The Lower Ossington Theatre, a Peachy Coochy performance will grace the stage at the Performance Bar as part of the SummerWorks Theatre Festival. The name comes from the Japanese ‘Pecha Kucha‘ where each presenter has 5 minutes to deliver 15 slides with only 20 seconds for each slide. I know these as Ignite presentations, people do them at conferences sometimes. The cast will be sharing Venn diagrams in a form that is  ‘smart and playful, sweet and earnest, with a healthy dose of cheek’.  See the description on the SummerWorks site. I creeped YouTube for Peachy Coochy and there’s some funny ones. I’m looking forward to this! Performance Details: Date & Time: Thursday August 16, 9:30 pm – Location: Ticket: Pay-what-you-can Participants: Philip Akin: Artistic Director, Obsidian Theatre Company Tara Beagan: Artistic Director, Native Earth Performing Arts Ravi Jain: Artistic Director, Why Not Theatre Matthew Jocelyn: Artistic Director, Canadian Stage Laura Nanni: Festival Director, Rhubarb Festival Richard Rose: Artistic Director, Tarragon Theatre Cost is PWYC so if you are broke as a joke or rollin’ in dough you can still go and have some smart fun. I’ll be there and hope to see some familiar faces so we can laugh together.

Give Me a Hint of Your Light!

New post on teh ol’ SummerWorks bloggy blog. Festival starts August 9th! There’s a free workshop you can apply to called Making & Breaking on August 4 & 5th. It’s a two day workshop in contemporary performance. I’m doing it! LMK if you apply. Details here. Check out the OFFICIAL song of the performance festival: “The idea for the song and video came out of wanting to get people excited about the Festival, and re-iterating that SummerWorks is a celebration of incredible, exciting work and artists. SummerWorks wants to ‘give you a hint of its light and be your spark,’ (lyrics from the song) says Michael Rubenfeld, Artistic Producer of SummerWorks Performance Festival.

Live Art Performance About Digital & Social Interaction?

I’m totally into it! This week on the SummerWorks blog I started my interview series with a few of the performers in the Live Art Series of the festival.   Summerworks Blog Post Details: Art, emotion, interaction, and a dose digital media? – Interview with Brial Lobel, his performance Purge is the one with deleting Facebook friends and stuff. Totally into it. I delete FB friends all the time.  Get to Know Erin Brubacher – Her performance is called  Nightcap. She collects hand-crank egg beaters and have lived & performed around the world. We are LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS for the Summerworks Festival August 9-19th. All the details are HERE if you are interested. Volunteering is an excellent way to get to know people, make friends, and gain experience. Plus, it’s super fun to be involved in cool things. If you are already volunteering, LMK so we can hang out! Happy Friday! I am safely in Boston and tomorrow I am going SKYDIVING for the very first time. Virgin. Omg. Not even scared. No really, I’m NOT SCARED AT ALL.

Do You Believe in Magic?

I do.   But you have to create it. You have to build it. Manufacture it. The means of production are all yours. Open the doors to the factory inside your mind. Let it all out. Let it spill over the sides of everything and flood the basement. Build a house out of it. Build a life. A magical life to live.

#Art + #Music + #Everyday + #Inspiration

Went to an awesome event last weekend with Lauren at Brickworks, FOAM – Festival of Art & Music. Such a great venue. Who doesn’t love a good warehouse party? Photos by Brian Hamilton for iChannel. Whole album on iChannel FB. FOAM is held in support of motionball (motionball.com), a not-for-profit organization that introduces the next generation of supporters to the Special Olympics Canada movement through social and sporting events. See photos from Motionball Gala 2011 & 2012. In other news, just got off the phone with Brick Bronson in LA who is behind The Weeknd about his new artist Everyday. Born in NY, raised in TO and super talented. This is his first track FIRE. I hope that some piece of it will elevate your spirit. May we all touch a heart. somehere, sometime.. — everyday (@itseveryday) June 8, 2012 ‎”Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.” -Oscar Wilde — CASIE STEWART (@casiestewart) September 6, 2011

Art Gallery of Ontario – Massive Gala

I was shocked at just how actually massive the event was last night. There were multiple floors, rooms, interactive art displays and lots of suits. In support of art, I decided to make my hair really stand out by adding lots of colour. I was quite surprised there weren’t more ‘artistic’ looking people, it was very corporate. Fun though! I LOVE the AGO and used to be gallery member. Thinking I’ll get a new membership again. It’ a great spot to hang out, work or escape to a world surrounded by creative works of art. It’s inspiring! Lots of posts about it in the archives, one of my favs here. Thanks Becca for these shots and the lovely Lauren for having me as her date. Read more about the event & see who was there on She Does the City. <3 CASIE

THE INTERNET IS FULL OF TRINKETS

Meet one of my most fav gifs ever. Found it yesterday and it’s done by friend & photog Nate Kogan. NATE! How fun is this, the moves the glitter. I’m in love.  SO CUTE! Have you checked out Keri Blog recently? She’s still been a nomad since January 1, 2012 & just kicked off her security show, Smarten Up Internet. Keri’s got the beat on how to keep your computer and gadgets safe and she could hack your computer from a wifi right in front of you. She hacked me once, September 14, 2011 exactly at 4:20. I just realized the time. We were at a coffee shop in Toronto. I didn’t even notice until she Tweeted, from MY account. Hey guys it’s @KeriBlog and I just hacked Casie’s account. — CASIE STEWART (@casiestewart) September 14, 2011 Thank you for tweeting: So funny. It hurts. corporatetwits.tumblr.com companies dealing with social media “issues” — Scott Stratten (@unmarketing) April 10, 2012 Attention everyone: I think you’re awesome. Whatever you’re chasing this morning, catch it or I’ll think less of you. Lots less. — Jus Frais (@jusfrais) April 10, 2012 Watched this hipster vid on Lauren O’Nizzle’s blog. Her blog is full of haha humor. That reminds me, I haven’t gone for Ethiopian food in a while. I’m a little bit obsessing over the HG. I can’t help it. I don’t know how to explain this. Sorry/you’re welcome. I just about died laughing my all off. First one I saw was Hunger Games Effie then Hawaii & Kate.  The band is a Swedish group of cool kids and they made this to promote the song. Thanks Kate for the low down. They released their song on Spotify. I don’t have Spotify anymore because of this, then we talked about it at Canadian Music Week. Den officiella…

If you had been thirsty for something you whole life, then you found it?

Then you found it, what would you sacrifice? Think about it. Then think about what you are searching for and go find it. Title is a quote from Ian Ruhter who has taken a delivery truck and his life savings to create a massive camera based on the 1800 wet plate technique. It is incredibly interesting and beautiful. It will inspire you, it inspired me. Following his passion for film photography he travels around American shooting photographs that cost him $500 dollars per image. My sister Jenie took this cool shot yesterday from the highway on iPhone. So happy she has iPhone. Found this little guy in our quest to make jewellery. Do you know who he is? Have a really busy day today. Teaching a private blog lesson in an hour then off to a meeting about upcoming charity event then rushing to studio for a photoshoot for upcoming project. It sounds fun but it’s gonna be a rushed day. Heading to Hoxton later for the launch of P&L Catering. Everyone and their blog will be there I’m sure. Some staples in my day, good book (know which one?), sunnies (RayBans), stylus (drawing), Macbook, sketchbook for notes, Sharpie pen for writing everything down. Some friends created this totally awesome app that’s a hybrid between video & photo called Flixel. Check out this one I made the other day. CRAZY cool. I’m gonna make a whole Flixel post soon. Took this just now off the balcony, it’s beautiful out there. GO! Go out and do something awesome. Maybe it’s just a little walk in the sun. Have fun 🙂 <3 CASIE

LOVE IS THE ANSWER

Email from Mr. Brainwash: On Thursday, March 29th, at 12pm PST, Mr. Brainwash will be releasing “Love Is The Answer”. An eighteen-color screen print on hand torn archival art paper and hand finished with spray paint. Each print is signed, numbered and thumb printed by the artist. Edition:100 Size: 36inx45.5in Price:$1,000 Helloooooooooooo. I want to make some art. Outside painting when summer comes. We’re back to pre-spring temps in Toronto again today. Mega wind. I’d rather be at this game int he sun, sun, sun. I learned today that Albert Einstein married his cousin, Elsa Einstein. Interesting eh. I used to carry around a paper printed from home that was a collection of inspiring words and quotes by Albert E. I called is STEINNIE, mixed up the letters and kept it in my pocketbook. Moleskine. Lemme see if I can find it, yep, inspiration folder of papers. One day I will have a huge office and there will be papers everywhere. It will be lovely because nobody will use paper anymore and they will all be artifacts. One of my favs: The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once. One for Saturday: If A equals success, then the formula is A equals X plus Y plus Z.X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut. Sometimes I find old blog posts that have been chaged or the links don’t work and I know I need to fix that but it’s fun finding them too. Today I found this creative little writing excerpt from one of my journals. I was wearing tall gladiator sandals, it was 2009. this papers not as good for drawing its better for writing in pen i like when the pencil scratches the paper its thinner than the other paper and i like that one…

SNOW MOON, NO SNOW THOUGH

Take a look at the moon and make your wishes. I learned that from Grandad. Venus shines extra bright tonight. They call it ‘Snow Moon’, ask space.com. We have no snow this time round. Jupiter and Venus are the brightest after moon and Sirius. Sirius, the sky’s brightest star. Goodnight. xo

Dancing Circles

Feeling like I might be coming down with something. Figures, post vacation and entering holiday season, confined to the house and the couch. Ok, it’s not that bad, all I really want to do is be on the couch with my computer anyways. Had to reschedule today’s shoot for next week. Barbie is away till the end of the year so I’m home all alone. I feel like my place is The Factory, a la Warhol and I’m gonna to churn out some really creative stuff before 2012. Check out this vid of my friend Mauricio surfing in Montezuma, Costa Rica. I was surfing there last month. He’s got a board cam! So rad. Happy Place posted the 50 Funniest Tweets of 2011 Andrew Carboni started a tumbler for his (Mis)Adventures in Asia. Follow it here. Remember the sexy creepy Movember video he made just for me? How did I make such a magical gif creation? Diptic on iPhone, Picasa, Gif ninja. You can figure it out of you want. IMDB – omg you know this girl 😉

Nulayer’s New Apps

On Thursday Sam & I met up with Lauren at Thrush Holmes Empire Gallery for the launch of two apps from Toronto based dev company Nulayer. Nulayer, was called the “App Kings” on the cover of Toronto Life’s 2011 Money Issue, and they were celebrating the launch of two new apps (Toronto Star and TheScore). One of the things I love about the company is the tag line “we build software with our bare hands“. Thanks for the invite Esther, always nice to see you! Sam is wearing waxed Nudies & vintage from CTS. I’m wearing AA black scoop neck & re-modelled vintage from F As In Frank, Queen West, Hamilton watch, Secret FW 2011 blue tights.
