i’m at liberty to go

Tonight is #genyto and the Liberty Village Annual Afterwork party.  Our employers are asked to grant us “liberty” to leave work early and join the Party. They shut down Fraser Avenue  and give us lots of room to have cold bevvys, good food and rad music.  Fun.

i’m your suggested contact

Yesterday I was at MaRS for Net Change Week. I was an expert at Social Mastermind // Social Media for Social Change hosted by RedWire.  I had the opportunity to share ideas and brainstorm with the ladies from Raising the Roof Canada’s only national charity for the homeless. I really enjoyed learning about homelessness in Canada and was happy to chat about their youth initiative.   They haven’t really tapped into social media which  gave me lots of opportunity to share my ideas on how they can use social media for good. There was lots of Twitter talk!!  In the end, each group came up with a tangible strategy that they could to take back to the office and execute. It was awesome to see  friends hard at work helping charities. Prime example, these fine gentleman…@d_hock, Andrew Lane from @nitchblog and Julian Brass from @notableTV. I’m have always been very interested in youth issues. When I was in high school I was Director of PR on the City Youth Council and we started a rock festival and opened a drop-in centre for city youth.  It was rewarding and gave me an opportunity to learn a lot about PR and how to turn ideas into reality.  In the evening session I made an appearance at Wired Wednesday. Everyone was wearing name tags with a suggested contact on it…I was theirs.

absolute effing garbage

Oh, you want more money? No job security?  Hmm, well you should totally just strike then.  Did you know there is recession? A Global Financial Crisis? Zillions unemployed? Oh, no? OMG, let me tell you. There are thousands and thousands of unemployed people. I bet they will be garbage men and women if you don’t wanna work. They might even work for less because they are sick and tired of being on the dol and having no job at all.  I bet their babies are hungry and they need to pay Rogers and the rent and the government. Maybe we could all vote on it and whoever wants to work stands up and if you wanna bitch you can sit your ass down?  The head honcho  of the outside workers union said it’s not all about the benjamins and it’s all for job security and work hours. I don’t even know what job security means anymore. I prey that there is no strike. I don’t want to live in a smelly city like back in 2002. I made a video while riding a bike for you.

it’s good be a crazy cool kiwi girl

About two yearsago I worked at Hemingways, a Kiwi pub in Toronto or a couple months.I was working away on the patio one night and had been watching Conchords on HBO non-stop for about a month. It was On Demand andI could not get enough of it. I saw this one guy who had the most uncanny resemblance to Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords. At the same time,  I had also been checking out this cute boy who looked kinda like Brett Mackenzie, also from FOTC. I always have a thing for those cute ones that have the Sam Roberts hair. Seperately, I told them about FOTC, at the time it was a hilarious Kiwi show that hardly anyone had heard of. The were both nice and said  ‘ok, sounds kinda cool’ but I needed evidence. I rounded them up like sheep and got them together for a pic. Totally awesome. First pic is the real ones and the other two pictures are the fakes. They look just like ’em!

and when it does i want to run away

this papers not as good for drawing its better for writing in pen i like when the pencil scratches the paper its thinner than the other paper and i like that one better because you can do more with different things and make it more colourful and full of life i don’t like to write on the back of the paper and i like when the words fill up the spaces of the flat piece of paper either and when words the same end up together it makes me smile and i like it the reporter is always writing and chasing stories i would rather be chased than chase the lives and run in circles around my own thoughts and how i feel about the lives of other people i like to report my own stories its new and always news its always new and always news but it gives me anxiety sometimes * from my moleskine

added information or an observation

I recently met Sean Ward. He writes a blog, draws cartoons, raps and is one cool ass dude. After we met he checked out my blog and left a few comments. That sparked his idea about  the etiquette behind blog commenting. Especially when you just met the person or aren’t part of that blog’s community. We shared some thoughts over Facebook this week about our feelings on the topic. The conversation can be found on Sean’s awesome blog at seanward.net.

and it goes a little somethin’ like this

Great afternoon yesterday with the work mates.  I’m not very sporty nor do I enjoy playing anything with flying balls or kicking. I made an attempt to be a team player… I put on my ankle support and I played Human Fooseball. Sabrina told me she was watching it happen and thinking ‘oh no, this is a bad idea’.  I was standing right across from the shoes in the photo below. She kicked, I kicked, she won. I got heel right in the top of my foot. I’m currently getting the SAME foot looked at for a heel that went right into it about 3 years ago. Epic fail. I spent the rest of the afternoon drinking and sitting in the sun. I also went for a relaxing trek around the island on a boat. I liked it. The city looks so pretty from the lake. Kelly and I were uploading pix to Twitpic the whole time. It was pretty funny because everyone that we were huge dorks and I love that feeling. This photo of us is great, love the tower in the back.

a box of goon and lots of beads

Yesterday I got quite a few compliments on the outfit. I think I looked kinda rocker-lesbian-ish. I like that look though, I do it well.  There’s something about the short hair and the side shave that gets the girls. Maybe I have that look on my face that makes them give me the ‘eyes from across the room.? It happens, my friends know. It’s hot though, I like it.  Maybe it’s all the time I’ve spent at Pride in TO; volunteering, leading a team of hot babes, partying. One time, I went to Mardi Gras in Sydney in 2004, I had only been in Australia for 5 weeks at the time. It was quite surprising when I opened the Sydney Morning Herald to see a colour photo of me kissing my bff in an article about the street party the night before. It was hot and shocking. I tried to find it to show you but had no luck. I’m sure the photo is saved somewhere. It had been raining, we drank a box of goon, were wearing next to nothing and were covered in beads. It was fun.  I’m not volunteering at Toronto Pride this year. I WILL be having my annual get together with all the girls before heading to the parade. That’s the fun part 🙂

does mrs. bennett know i have a blog now mum?

There’s something here you don’t get in a post on Mashable or TechCruch, CNN, MSNBC, CBC, CityTV, CTV, MTV and all those other newsy post all the time guys. You get a story. I think I should tell more stories. I like to live them out as I try to remeber what really happened. It’s hard to think of them but when I do, I gotta write it down. Ideas only last so long. How do I send from Blackberry? I’m addicted to bloggging. I’m addicted to my blog I think. Is there a cure for that yet? My hand graces my forehead as I mumble Yeah Casie, a job as a writer… I came to the warehouse to work and write a bit. Theres something about being here that makes me feel so at home. When I was little Dad had a big industrial space for the hot rod shop. It smelled like tool box, wheels and work. The 32′ they build had huge Mickey Thompson tires that came up to above my waist at the time. The home garage always had cars in it too and on the weekends Dad and his friends would push them onthe street and the driveway and work on them with their shirts off. sed so stylish. All the kids played in the backyard on the swing set with sun and hats and the sprinkler. Even now, I still love spending time in my home garage tuning up my car and tidying away clutter from inside my house. Which reminds me, I must check up on my best friend soon. She lives in Illinois and the last time we spoke her garage door was broken! There are a few companies who specialise in garage door repair in Addison so I hope she managed…
