This is My Life | My Name is Casie, Not Cassie

I made this video ages ago and it’s based on a true story. The true story of my entire life explaining that, no, my name isn’t Cassie, it’s Casie. Like Casey Casem, Casey Neistat, Casey and Finnegan, Casey at the Bat, Casey Affleck. It’s just spelled with an ‘ie’.

I often meet people who know me from the Internet but have never met me in real life, calls with clients, agencies, all kinds of people and it happens ALL THE TIME, they call me Cassie. When it does, it’s an awkward situation for us both.

So, in attempt to save us BOTH the embarrassment, the video.

Lucky for me, if you Google my name anywhere in the world, you’ll find me. So, maybe I’m the worlds most famous Casey spelled Casie? I dunno…I hope you find it funny. I didn’t know how else to explain it.

In other news, my friend sat Untitled&Co named a skirt after me! I’m stopping by their store to shoot some items next week. Woot woot!

TIFF | Moët & Chandon Gala Green Room at Roy Thomson Hall

TIFF | Moët & Chandon Gala Green Room at Roy Thomson Hall

Yesterday was the busiest day I’ve had in a while! I attended two TIFF gifting lounges, had lunch in the Moët green room, put in a couple hours at the office, and spoke at the We Are Wearables event.

[symple_divider style=”solid” margin_top=”10″ margin_bottom=”10″]

Today is the first day of TIFF and the city is alive with celebrities, streets are closed, and there’s pop-up parties all over the place. For the remainder of the festival, attending stars and special guests will relax and enjoy champagne in the Gala Green Room before they walk the red carpet to introduce a film.

I got a sneak peek of the lounge and imagined myself walking red carpets. Stars you can expect to see here are Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, and my old BF Jake Gyllenhaal (I kid, I kid, we only met twice ?).

“As somebody who loves to celebrate Canadian talent I’m really excited that there are three major Canadian premieres at Roy Thomson Hall this year, from three major Canadian filmmakers: Deepa Mehta, who had a film in the original festival in 1976, she’s returning with Beeba Boys. And then there’s Atom Egoyan’s film Remember, and Paul Gross’ Hyena Road,” says Selby. “It’s always great to see Canadian films stand up to the rest of the world in terms of quality and entertainment.”  Mark Selby, venue liaison

The lounge is pretty chill. Food & drinks. Champagne flowing. I can only imagine who’ll be sitting in the seat right where I was over the next 10 days.

If you’re looking to do some star spotting during TIFF, the four block radius around the TIFF Bell Light Box on King Street is the place to do it. I’ll be sharing my updates and anything I think you’ll find interesting on Twitter, Instagram, and, Snapchat (casiestewart).

Catch you on the flip side! ?

Fashion | Love My Hood + Bench Canada AW15

Fashion | Love My Hood + Bench Canada AW15

I was invited into Bench Canada this week to check out the latest collection for fall winter. Was pleasantly surprised to see more fashion vs. athletic wear and less things with a big logo. I’ve been doing things with them since  2011 so this was fun.  The girls in the store know me by now and I have a blast picking out clothes

There is in fact a bench there. I think it’s new.

And a selfie mirror. HIIIIII! I got all these things. Pants, shirt, sweater. I think they’ll be versatile pieces to mix with dressier items, layers, etc.

Glasses are Polette.Phone case is Ted Baker. Necklace is by Shop for Jayu, remember I was in their look book a couple months ago?

Oh heyyy, looks like somebody had a make out. Netflix? Chill?

Right now if you spend over $150 or more you get 1 of 3 bags. Bench hooked me up with a nice gift card so when I got my total I didn’t feel too shabby shilling out. Gift for BF ✔️

A few years ago I hosted a room in the BHD Gifting Suites on MMVA weekend. It was fun. I hung out all day while celebs & media rolled through receiving gifts and hanging out. This post from 2011 has heaps of people you will recognize – Liz from Much/eTalk, Tyrone, Jesse Giddings, Jay Strut, Lissa Monet, Brock, Carly, Kardinal.

Last September I had a shoot with Bench Canada + my fav fall items. Remember this? Maybe we’ll do that again.

Wore my new pants yesterday and today was perfect weather to rock my new hoodie on the bike ride. To check out the latest from Bench, pop into your local store or visit bench.ca.  Thanks MacIntyre Communications for inviting me in! I’ll snap some more outfit photos this weekend 🙂

Fashion | RUDSAK x Emily Haines + AW15

Fashion | RUDSAK x Emily Haines + AW15

Last night I went to the opening of Rudsak’s new store in the Eaton Centre. The special guest was Emily Haines of Metric who is collaborating with them on a new collection. I was fan-girling inside when Emily Haines walked in because my sister and I to listened to her Live It Out album about 100,000,000 times.

Bag Rudsak, Tunic Joe fresh,

Bag Rudsak, Shirt dress Joe fresh

Last year Rudsak (est. 1994) did a capsule collection for their 20th anniversary inspired but rock musicians in history. This is the first time collaborating with a musician. The partnership came together though Rise Branded Entertainment, a division of Universal Music Canada.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the close relationship between fashion and music. Suppose it’s because personal style is such a powerful form of self-expression, it’s very much an art form in itself,” – Emily Haines

Her twist on the classic cropped moto will be showcased at four Rudsak stores this month: Calgary’s Market Mall, the Toronto Eaton Centre, Carrefour Laval in Laval, Que., and on Ste-Catherine Street in Montreal.

We were all given a little envelope with a key in it. ONE lucky person’s key would open a bird cage and inside was a customized Rudsak jacket. The jackets are amazing. I have 2 moto styles from the last few years I live in them as soon as the temp cools.

Spent some time reading the new lookbook on the way home and there’s heaps of nice items. I’m quite keen to get one of these leather iPhone cases ASAP.

In other news, THE APPLE ANNOUNCEMENT IS TODAY.  Starts at 10am PDT.

Will update you with the look book after this week. Have TIFF things all day and am feeling pretty excited because I’ve got 3 events before 2pm and the Apple announcement in the middle. Must know all things about new gadgets.

ALSO, I’m speaking on a panel at WeAreWearables tonight at Mars Discovery District. We are talking about Capturing The Future. I’m live streaming. If there’s a link. You’ll find it on Twitter @casiestewart!

TIFF | Film To Watch: Northern Soul

TIFF | Film To Watch: Northern Soul

World-renowned photographer Elaine Constantine makes her feature directorial debut with this invigorating coming-of-age film about a working-class teen in 1974 Lancashire who finds liberation in the area’s burgeoning soul-music scene. [TIFF |IMDb]

Last week I went to the premiere of Northern Soul a British Film directed by Elaine Constantine regular photographic contributor to Vogue, W, and The Face. She’s  also directed music videos and commercials, this is her first feature.

It was good. I loved the music. Made me wanna get up and dance. I Shazammed a few songs during the movie tbh.

It plays in Toronto at TIFF on Friday, September 18th and Saturday, September 19th. For tickets and info see here.

The film offers an extensive look into the underground soul music scene in the UK during the 1970s, a scene that Constantine is personally familiar with. As a much-needed escape from the realities of working class teenage life, John (Elliot James Langridge) and Matt (Josh Whitehouse) fall in love with soul music with the intentions of travelling Stateside in search of rare vintage vinyl in the pursuit of becoming DJs.

See all things TIFF related and my BEHIND THE SCENES look at gifting lounges and events by clicking TIFF in the sidebar ➡️ or click here. Starting tomorrow there’s heaps happening!

IT’S ALL SO EXCITING!

This is My Life | Aaaaand We’re Back! That’s a Wrap on Summer

This is My Life | Aaaaand We’re Back! That’s a Wrap on Summer

Yes, I know ‘summer’ isn’t officially over but if you’ve been away from school or work, it’s pretty much over. The feeling is gone. Back to the routine. New notebooks, new clothes.  ✏️  Maybe a new attitude?!

This time of year is exciting, I love when seasons change. If at any point you feel meh, remember that Halloween and Christmas aren’t far away. The season of Netflix & Chill is right around the corner and it’s a great time to clean up your house, diet, friends, thoughts.

I was thinking I was on my game this morning but am an hour EARLY for something, so I really screwed up. Got Emily ready for school but didn’t get to go w/ Sean to drop her off.

The drive back from cottage country was bittersweet yesterday. We took the long way to avoid being stuck in traffic. The sun was beating down and the air was warm. Picked up some fruits and veg from a stand along the way.

Saw this sweet ride.

Spent some quality time on the new deck reading the September issue (Vogue of course!) and soaking up the sun. ☀️ We’ll be back a few times before the seasons actually change, the leaves are so beautiful up there.

If you’ve got the blues today, save this on your desktop or phone and daydream of cottage life….

Sending you good vibes for a great week. I know today can be a challenging one after a long beautiful summer. I’ve got a few giveaways coming up including a MASSIVE TIFF package w/ NKPR.

Share a smile with someone today, they just might need it. ?

This is My Life | You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.

Helloooo! It’s Friday and the long weekend is almost here. I’m sitting in my fav office, the cottage side deck. Keri is here and we’re working away. The skies are blue, the air is warm, and it’s not tooo hot yet. Will jump in the lake when that time arrives!

cottage casie, muskoka

Saw this quote today. I love Dr. Seuss quotes + poems. Another fav is Shel Silverstein and this week I picked up A Light In the Attic and and was pleasantly reminded of his work. Back when I was a teenager I wrote & published a book of poetry. I’ve written about it a few times over the years.  ?

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself, any direction you choose.”

— Dr. Seuss

Yesterday I checked out a TIFF press screening and went on a massive bike ride. It was so hot but I loved it. My new Schwinn bike is incredibly conformable. It’s still avail at Canadian Tire if you’re in the market for a cruiser. I put a basket and flowers on the back and I smile every single time I look at it.

Sending you sunshine from cottage country,

This is My Life | Hello, September

Hello, September 2015, casiestewart, fall, sesons change, toronto, fashion

It’s September. Season’s change. Great time of year to make a fresh start. Clean the house. Clean your closet. Finally drop of your dry cleaning. Get rid of clothes and paper. Organize your mind. Clear your thoughts.

IMG_0046.PNG
Last night I did a massive clean around the house and everything in it. It felt great waking up to a less cluttered space, less clothes, more room. Did a massive closet purge and nothing will stop me from dropping it off to a second hand today.

I went for a power bike this morning before it gets too hot, y’know crank it up to the hardest gear and ride like a StairMaster. I’m sitting at Cafe Neon neat my house near the window, starting the day with a blog and workout is my fav way to stay motivated. Early August I set out to accomplish a few goals, a new blog layout and generally laying low. I spent most of the month in Muskoka at the cottage and gave my blog a total face lift. It had been years since this baby had a makeover and we all need to reinvent ourselves now and then.

jasmine dowling, work hard, stay humble do what you fucking love, jasmine dowling, work hard, stay humble

Sending you good vibes for a great month. Use it as motivation to check something off your list. I like to play a lil’ rewards-based game with myself so that I get things done and feel accomplished with the smallest tasks. Workout before coffee? Great start!

Events | A Toronto Scavenger Hunt w/ Ford Canada

Events | A Toronto Scavenger Hunt w/ Ford Canada

Oh haiiiii! That’s me in the new Ford Escape w/ CBC news anchor Peter Mansbridge  in the background. The scavenger hunt I did on the weekend called for a photo with a famous person. They didn’t specify if it had to be a famous person IRL, y’know?

We started out at Rock Lobster Queen East with a bunch of bloggers for some eats. There, we got a tour of the features including Ford SYNC 3 and AppLink.

It was my first time having brunch at Rock Lobster and the food was delish. We were two of the first to arrive and it was so fun seeing the blog crew arriving. Lots of hugs and screaming and laughter.

I’d worked with most of the crew hired to shoot the day (via 1188), so we all had a chuckle when I walked in!

The rest of the afternoon had us touring the city with a list of tasks to accomplish before meeting to tally the winner our last stop. We ended up having a car to ourselves, so we sang really loud to Justin Bieber and the playlist Ford made us on Spotify.

This is one of Toronto’s weird houses. It’s covered in dolls and children’s toys. It’s super creepy. The owner once won the best garden. Seriously. For more photos and a few close-ups, see my blog post from August 2009 ‘we have hundreds of McDonalds toys‘.

Another task on the list was snapping a photo of the Escape in one of Toronto’s many graffiti alleys. I love this one of Kate Moss in a mock Supreme shirt. It’s located King & Portland behind Portland Variety. There’s heaps more graffiti alley art around King/Queen West, see more here.

Know where this house is? Well, this half-house is located at 54 1/2 St. Patrick. It’s a product of history, poverty, property changing, and has a story that’s way too long for this blog post. You can read it on BlogTO if you’re keen.

Value in 2013 was ~$650K, it was vacant. Given the TO housing market it’s probably $1M now.

Towards the end of the hunt we really got creative, time was getting short. Spell out FORD and make a collage? OK! Flowers, Oranges, Raspberries, Driving.

We arrived at Big Crow at Dupont & Davenport around 5:30 for BBQ. I ate a few shrimps right when I walked in and OMGWHOA they were good. Unfortunately, I didn’t stay for the whole meal (we were heading to cottage) but it looked good. I saw a rack of ribs on someones Twitter and I’m still thinking it about days later.

We didn’t win the Toronto scavenger hunt but we DID have a super fun time w/ heaps of laughs. I thoroughly enjoyed driving the Escape all afternoon. It’s a powerful lil’ SUV that’s not too big, good for city driving. Great turning radius and Active Park Assist means you can parallel park like a champ anywhere, anytime.

I’ve done it a few times. Here’s a vid of me parallel parking an Escape with no hands back in 2013.

https://youtu.be/vnb46qtu6vU

Thanks Ford Canada for a fun time w/ friends exploring our city. I’ve lived here for 10 years and there’s always something new to discover. If there’s any footage from the GoPro or video from Ford I’ll update this post. I’m sure you’re just dying to hear us singing loudly! ?

Travel | Working From the Cottage Today

Cottage Casie

Hello, hello? What’s that sound? Waves crashing in the background! Stayed a little longer at the cottage this weekend and am working from this little spot after spending 2 hours on emails + editing in the hammock. It’s a rough life!

Biebs just released the video for What Do You Mean and I’ve been playing this tune over and over. I’ve always been a fan of his! Back in my days at MuchMusic & MTV he performed at the MMVAs and I was SO close. Once I got to meet in him NYC.

Here’s to a great week my friends. SUMMER IS NOT OVER. This week is gonna be mega hot, get your togs on an hit the beach!

This is My Life | Sirius XM, NKPR, Greta Constantine, ALO Restaurant, H&M Studio

This is My Life | Sirius XM, NKPR, Greta Constantine, ALO Restaurant, H&M Studio

This week was a busy one! I was looking through photos and decided it would be a good idea to take a look back.

Monday I was back on Sirius XM co-hosting the Todd Shapiro Show. It was super fun. Listen to it here.

I’m working on a big project at 1188 and we had a meeting over foot massages. SMARTEST IDEA. There’s a little spot at Queen/Portland, $25 for 30min. Not prices like Thailand but the massage was just as good!

Work work.

Tuesday was the NKPR pre-TIFF media event at Natasha’s house. Tahnee was there! It was great to see all the fashion/media peeps after a long relaxing summer. The crazy is about to begin! Can’t wait for TIFF.

Recognize these bachelors? Tim (L) and I shot a TV show earlier this year with NKPR. Todd isn’t a bachelor anymore tho. Brad (R) is on TV in Canada and a former Bachelor for those of you not from here.

The NKPR IT Lounge has been going on for 10 years. It’s a VIP gifting suite and portrait studio. Caitlin Cronenberg is shooting it for W Magazine again this year. I’ll be popping by on Sept. 9th.

Wednesday night Greta Constantine hosted La Piscine. A glamorous night held at 77 Admiral Road, a three story brick mansion with beautiful backyard and pool. See more photos of peeps at the party on shedoesthecity.com.

Recognize this babe? Abe Hotaki was there stomping grapes in his underwear. He was at our cottage this summer for the Archibald Men magazine shoot.

Next week I’m attending a top secret party hosted by Rickey, if you don’t know Rickey, you will soon. #ChezRickey is sure to be an amazing night.

The tips I ordered for my new Jeffrey Campbell boots arrived. I think these are my new thing.

Thursday I got a preview of the new ALO Restauraunt. It’s beautiful. Located at Queen/Spadina on the third floor, it’s a dining experience with a New York feel.

They made an AMAZING cocktail with cilantro infused vodka. I can’t stress enough to how good it was.

Was great to see so many friends this week at all the events.  April & Jillian, I love you!
Next stop was the H&M Studio preview hosted at the Horizons Restauraunt atop the CN Tower.

H&M Studio is the collection of seasonal pieces, created by their dedicated in-house design team. Each season, H&M Studio presents directional fashion and shows at Paris Fashion Week.

I absolutely LOVE this look. Need. Want.
We walked from ALO to the CN Tower. Talia (middle) is a stylist and a cute little button. Love her. Nice to meet you Britlynne!

Beckermans were there, all smiles. Blondes unite! They’re kinda a big fashion deal…@beckermanblog.

The H&M Studio collection is worth checking out. I will let you know when it’s in store around the world. These two items are from the KIDS collection. Aren’t they amazing!? I can already see myself trying to get Emily all dolled up.

Sean and I closed out the week with dinner at Valdez on King West. The food there is really good, ceviche, octopus, and beef ribs are a few of my favs. ?

Sending You Good Vibes Through The Internet As I Type

CASIE FACE

Well hello there gorgeous! It’s a great day to be alive. Was up early to greet the day and have heaps on my TODO list. I’ve been working out of the 1188 office most the week on a new project and was so heads down yesterday I MISSED A HAIR APPOINTMENT. I would never!

As I type this I’m sitting at Starbucks beside a very tall man who is working on something about biology and organic acid catabolic process. Makes missing a hair appt not really seem THAT bad, ha! It’s ok, I rescheduled for Friday afternoon.  🙂

Started wearing my fav Rudsak leather jacket yesterday. This time of year is bittersweet, I love fall fashion but summer is so magical, I wish it would last forever.

These flowers are for you…

I like to blog when I first get up before doing any other work. It’s something I think about all day if I don’t. I guess that’s how some people feel about working out. If I spent 1/2 as much time jogging as I did blogging, well… we won’t go there!

Sending you good vibes through the internet as I type. Looking forward to the weekend! This weekend I’m doing a scavenger hunt with Ford Canada on Saturday and on Sunday CARLY IS GETTING MARRIED. I can’t wait to see her walk down the aisle. Looking forward to a slowdance with my man too.

Behind the Red Carpet Film

Around this time last year we premiered the film Behind the Red Carpet at The Spoke Club in Toronto just in time for TIFF. It was so exciting! The film documents what goes ‘behind the red carpet’ of the Toronto International Film Festival. (It was filmed at TIFF in 2013). Earlier this year Behind the Red Carpet premiered’s on CBCs documentary channel.

I’m happy to share that it’s now available on Amazon and Vimeo on Demand!

Here’s a video of me & Chris Jancelewicz talking about the film with Natasha from NKPR on Rogers Your World This Week in February.

You’re A Pizza Work! … I Got A PIZZA Tattoo!

A couple weeks ago I randomly went to get a tattoo. No, not really! The design wasn’t random, we found ourselves with a free hour on a Friday afternoon so we made the most of the moment. We got in touch with a friend at Black Line Studio and scored last minute appointments for two. YOLO!

IMG_9848

I have heaps of tattoos and they all have a story. This one is kinda funny, but seriously, who doesn’t love PIZZA? ❤️?❓ I wrote about some of my favourite tattoos here.

This was what our little pizza slices looked like when we first got them done. We opted in for getting creamy garlic sauce on the side, because pizza. Can’t go wrong there guys!

Tattoo Aftercare

If your tattoo is important, make sure it heals nicely by taking good care of it. You went through the pain and there’s nothing worse than not having it heal properly. Find some some tips for aftercare on the FY Ink website.

Here’s my tattoo now:

If you’re looking for a great tattoo place I recommend FY Ink on Queen Street near Portland or Black Line Studio, King West. I’ve had a bunch done at FY Ink the last few years. If you want to get a pizza tattoo too, be my guest! Here’s 30+ shared by Buzzfeed recently.

New From Polette Eyewear – E-Polette to Protect Your Eyes

e-Polette, glasses, protect your eyes, casie stewart

Over the past year I’ve been a partner with polette eyewear in France. This week I wanna share something neat about new glasses they have available. The collection is called e-polette and they’re specially formatted to protect your eyes from the harmful glare that comes from looking at screens.

I check my phone about 8,000 times/day and spend heaps of hours per month in front of a screen. It’s not confirmed that long term damage can harm your eyes but you can develop Computer Vision Syndrome resulting in, dry or irritable eyes, headache, or blurred vision.

E-Polette to Protect Your Eyes

The e-polette lenses have a slight tent that acts as a filter to make staring at a screen easier on the eyes. There’s a whole bunch of stylish options and they start at $19.99.

About polette eyewear:

Polette was founded in France by a young entrepreneur who saw an opportunity to cut out the middleman and offer fashionable glasses at an affordable price. Frames and lenses come straight from their factory therefore they don’t have to charge a high price for consumers. The website was launched in 2011 and since they’e become a leader in the online eyewear market.

Check out some of stylish sunnies I’ve picked out at over the past few months at casiestewart.com/polette. Check out all the available glasses for men and women at polette.com and find e-polette here.

The Estrella Damm Tapas Journey

Tapas Journey

Last week I had the opportunity to check out the Estralla Damm Tapas Journey at Kanpai in Toronto’s East End. Tapas and pintxos are staples of Spanish cuisine, small plate snacks meant to be enjoyed & shared with friends. It was my first visit to Kanpai and we were treated to amazing service that made a great date night.

Estrella Damm launched Canada’s inaugural Tapas Journey in Toronto on August 14th and it goes until TOMORROW ONLY  it’s over now..

This was my first time trying Estrella Damm and it reminded me of Sapporo (my fav beer). It was lite, refreshing, and delicious. I would know because I sampled it MORE than a few times that night. Heh heh. ?

Twenty of the city’s best restaurants were featuring three mouth-watering tapas served with a cold Estrella Damm for $20.

Participating restaurants include: Barsa TabernaBeastByblosCarmenCavaEast Thirty-SixEl Catrin, Kanpai Snack BarLos ColibrísMamakas Taverna, MarbenMata Petisco BarNota BenePatriaRaca Café & Bar, Salt Wine BarTaverna MercattoThe Good SonValdezWeslodge

This weekend I’m heading home to hang out with my parents, sister, and go to an old friends wedding. I’m pretty excited to see everyone. There will be heaps of people I’ve not seen in a LOOOONG time. I know we’ll have lots of laughs and I can’t wait to cut up the dance floor like old times.

Seeing everyone and the whole wedding thing gives me a bit of anxiety. Knowing I’ll be there with my sister is comforting though! Sean is getting construction started on the cottage so I’m taking mum as my date. Next weekend we have another wedding! My blog babe BFF Carly is getting hitched!

If you ever get that chest pain anxiety, I know how you feel! Found this the other day via Tanvi Swar and I’ve watched it about 1,000 times since.

Make sure you’re following my SNAPCHAT – casiestewart. I’ll be amusing myself with Snaps all weekend and sharing my hometown!

My favourite parts were:

  • – Future Islands on Friday dancing the night away on Friday
  • – Soaking up the sun w/ the sounds of the Sheepdogs on Sunday

August, The Month of The Quiet Hustle

Well hello there. Feeling refreshed today after a HUGE sleep. I put my head down during Wheel of Fortune last night (7pm-ish) and woke up at 2am. Slept until 10 am this morning too, I was exhausted from the weekend.

Had a meeting this morning about some exciting news coming your way for TIFF. We met at Old School on Dundas a cute little spot that used to be Hudson Kitchen. This afternoon and tomorrow I’m back at Sirius XM for The Todd Shapiro Show. I’m talking entertainment news, etc.

I’m confirmed to be speaking at the next WeAreWearables event in Toronto on September 9th. I’ll be wearing a camera the whole time! More details about how you can attend coming later this week. In other news, this week I booked a speaking gig at a big conference next year and might be changing my hair colour for Spring 2016. Lots of stuff in the works over! August is the month of quiet hustle, building things for the next few months.

Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.

This weekend I’m heading to my hometown for a friends wedding. I can’t wait to see all my old friends and share heaps of laughs together. Nothing like that feeling! Will be spending some time with Mum, haven’t seen her all summer.

Off to another meeting before hitting the radio airwaves. Tune in to Sirius XM Canada Laughs, channel 168 at 4pm.

Don’t let the rain get you down today, BE YOUR OWN SUNSHINE!

Game, Set, Match! Bacardi Canada Raquet Club & Cocktails

Game, Set, Match! Bacardi Canada Raquet Club & Cocktails

Last week I went to the Rogers Cup with April. It’d been a while since we had a good girl hang and the night was perfect. Huge thanks to Bacardi Canada for treating us like social royalty; they sent a car service and took good care food & drinks for the night. Great way to get back into city life after my cottage getaway!

Bacardi was serving (?) perfect summer cocktails inside the Bacardi Canada Raquet Club. Their goal was to capture the court side cocktail vibe with Bacardi classics: The Bacardí Mojito, Bacardí Cuba Libre, and Bacardí Limónade.

April and I made the most of every moment by checking out all the booths and entering all contests or promotions happening. We laughed our heads off the whole time. Fingers crossed we win that Jamaica trip!

Shoutout to Woodbine Racetrack for their photo booth (see SQUAD above), we had fun getting the right shot haha. I’ve been working with Woodbine this summer, see all my posts from the races here.

Try making these selected summer favs from Bacardi Canada at home. They’re refreshing, and perfect for patios, poolside, or parties. I quite enjoy the lemonade and the Mojito is a close second.

Bacardí Mojito:

  • 1oz Bacardi Superior Rum
  • 3-4 Lime wedges 6-8
  • Fresh Mint leaves
  • 0.5oz – 0.75oz Simple Syrup
  • Top with soda water/club soda
  • Garnish: Fresh Mint

Method: Gently press together the limes & sugar. Bruise the mint leaves by clapping them between your palms, rub them on the rim of the glass and drop them in. Next, half fill the glass with crushed ice, add the BACARDÍ Superior rum & stir. Top up with crushed ice, a splash of soda and a sprig of mint.

Bacardí Cuba Libre:

  • 1oz BACARDÍ Gold rum 2oz cola (bottled)
  • 2 lime wedges

Method: To build this legendary cocktail, fill a highball glass with ice. Then squeeze 2 lime wedges over the ice and drop them into the glass. Pour in the BACARDÍ Gold rum, followed by chilled cola, and give it all a gentle stir.

Bacardí Limónade:

  • 1oz BACARDÍ LIMON 3oz
  • Freshly squeezed Lemonade Ice

Method: Fill highball glass with ice. Pour in the BACARDÍ LIMON, followed by freshly squeezed Lemonade, and give it all a gentle stir.

Love these vintage outfits. Notice their perfectly placed tennis bracelets. I took tennis lessons in junior high. Mostly did it for the tennis skirt and to hang out at the racquet club.

Here’s to a great week!

Planning for Life’s Unexpected Moments w/ TD Canada

When I was growing up I didn’t really think about kids, marriage, wedding etc, but I knew I wanted to be in business. I like setting goals but after spending years what felt like forever paying off my school debt, I didn’t really have a nest egg. I mean, I never prepared for unexpected life events, buying a house, retirement. One of the things I’ve learned from working with TD Canada the last year is that it’s never too early to build a financial plan and set goals for your future. If you work for a business and you already have retirement on the mind, then make sure your employer has Employee Benefits so this process can be made easier for when the time comes and that you get what you deserve.

Y’Know What I Mean?

For many Canadians (especially us millennials) things don’t always go planned the way they did for our parents ex. finish school, get married, buy a house, have kids, get a boat, retire early, move to the Bahamas for a year. (OK the last part is actually what my mum did, except ‘retire early’) So if you’re soon to be retired, make sure you look around and make sure you’re planning enough to ensure you’re retirement ready.

A recent TD Canada Trust survey found:

  • – Nearly 6/10 Canadians have completed or are on track to complete their life’s milestones in a different order than they originally expected
  • – Gen X Canadians are more likely to complete or be on track to complete them in a different order 64% than Millennials 52%
  • – Only 4/10 Canadians say they’ve properly budgeted or are properly budgeting for having their first child (39%) and for retirement (41%)
  • – Only 24% of Millennials and 33% of Gen X Canadians say they have properly budgeted or are properly budgeting for retirement.

“We know that priorities are constantly evolving and the big moments in our lives don’t always happen the way we expect,” said Lee Bennett, Senior Vice President, TD Wealth Financial Planning. “In fact, the survey findings also show that the best laid plans of previous generations didn’t always happen as anticipated either. This is something Millennials can learn from so they can better prepare themselves for unexpected – and sometimes simultaneous – life events by planning to allow for financial flexibility.”

One of the things that stuck with me from the information TD sent is that ‘unexpected costs’ can pop up anywhere for anyone. Being a homeowner, having pets, getting married (or BFF’s wedding) is expensive.

A financial planner can help you sort out how to manage your money and make a plan to suit your situation and aspiration. Last year I was on Global News talking about how important it is for us to manage our money.

It’s crazy how much you can save if you put your mind to it. The idea of retiring sounds pretty great and I wanna be able to make it happen. You can also get a decent income in retirement if you decide to look into equity release with Key.
