thanks for the gift bag

Last night I attended an exclusive event at Gaffa’s Fine Eyewear boutique on Queen Street. It was OK. Lots of people, style, music, wine and simple snacks. I was happy to be able to check it out. However, there was one problem, they promoted that there were these swanky gift bags for all attendees valued at $300. This obviously got peoples attention. The event was from 7-10.pm I went at 8:30, was told I was “too early for gift bag“by an employee. Annoying. So, I went back at 10pm and another girl said “oh we took the rest to Lobby”. Like WTF. There was no way I’d be chasing that much! These glasses were my favorite. UPDATE: I got an email from Mr. Gaffas and maybe I will buy my glasses there. It was very nice of him to reply to my email. I understand that it was a ‘gift’ but I was there two times. I went to the event based on a friends recomendation from a far away country. I know it’s a great shop with great glasses. I’ll let you all know how my store visit goes tomorrow.

the more we get together, the happier we’ll be

“For your friends are my fiends and my friends are your friends” and #genyTO meetup’s are a great way to get together! Yes, Raffi. It was really awesome to see many familiar and new faces. I met some tres cool people and have lots of pix that I will add to the #genyto group on FB later this weekend. This month’s meetup was at Andy Pool Hall. Must say I’m sorry that some of my stickers got ‘stuck’ on the pool hall and not just on peoples clothes etc. I won’t be going back there with this a haircut. I recieved a nasty email today from Andy’s that went something like “your f***in stickers, what the f**k “. Sheesh, sorry guise. Don’t have to be so mean about it. I had a blast dancing, it’s abviously a really classy place. I wasn’t quite having as much fun as barefoot lady. She went all out! For real. I’m really excited to be part of this growing group of wired, creative, motivated young people. Seeing the growth from the first #genyto in February to last night’s April meetup has been really cool. I’ve met some of the most inspiring & fun people ever. Hope to see heaps of you out at #pibTO today 1pm, Second Cup @ 307 Queen Street and John Street! 100% of the proceeds go to SickKids so bring your travel mug and get in line!

something sweet in the air

Tonight I am meeting with the team of organizers for Pay it Backward day, which is on Saturday at 1pm. It’s going to be a fun Saturday afternoon! I hope to see lots of peeps out for a good cause and great fun. There are lots of sponsors and entertainment planned. Sign up on FB. I’ll be there, being myself and having fun of course. I wonder who’s bringing the Bailey‘s for my coffee? Or just anything sweet really. Saying that I would really love someone to bring a baileys anyway. I’d definitely love it if someone brought a Baileys Red Velvet drink for me to try. That would be very sweet. Although I guess I just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully someone will see my hint about the baileys though! I am joking before anyone asks, it would just be a rather lovely thing for someone to bring! More importantly though, you should all make sure that you can come to the Pay it Backword day, it would mean so much so many people, so it’s really worthwhile doing. I can guarantee that it will be a fun Saturday afternoon! So bring your kids, bring you whole family and just be prepared to have fun! I know that I will certainly enjoy myself… particuarly if someone brings me some Baileys… Today is the birthday of my favorite Toronto Blogger, Raymi the Minx. If you don’t know her, you should. She is the best diarist and has the awards to prove it. I saw these cupcakes while I was getting groceries at lunch and captured them all to send through the Internet to Raymi and wish her a Happy 26th Birthday!

something big is coming….

I helped out with TwestivalTO in February, an event that took place at CiRCA and was part of a world wide effort to raise money for Charity Water. Toronto raised over $10,000 and we had hundreds of people out. There’s some really huge Toronto party events happening this year, I’m stoked.  Our friends at Daily Challenge are doing something awesome and when they asked for me to join their team for the event, I was all in! The event is called Pay It Backward Day and the idea came from one of the earliest challenges for DC. It involves doing something nice and purchasing a drink for the person behind you in line (see image->). The goal is to beat Starbucks who have the current world record and get 500 people in a row to take part. It is on Saturday, April 4th at Queen & John, Second Cup. It’s right across the street from Much Music. The New Flow 93.5 will be broadcasting live, there will be all kinds of interesting stuff going on. I’ve never broken a world record, that I know of, and I would really like your help to do it. So come. Join in on FB. I took this pix-mix of our city on the way to work today – Toronto the GOOD!

a very cold march day march

Today is freezing. The weather’s not fit for walking outside. The wind is chilling on my skin. The sun is bright. My feelings are warm but my face is not. Spring is on it’s way, just not today!! I made a little video this morning as I was experiencing arctic winds & the true North strong and free.video: cold march day on Vimeo. Lots of work to get done. I also have some stories to share from the weekend but will get to that later this eve.

i went to my favorite store. apt 909

My favorite store in the city is Apt. 909. I love it. I go in, love it most when I’m the only one there. I drop all my stuff and take off my shoes. The music is great and the atmostphere is like stepping in to another world. I got new glasses and a pretty dress.

Who’s the ‘Buy Nothing’ dummy?

Who, honestly WHO… Picked the biggest shopping day of the year to be ‘Buy Nothing Day”. It makes a mockery of the concept. How about having it on any other day, not during Christmas time so that people can actually say “Hey, I’m going to make a conscious effort to buy nothing today and make a difference.” Instead, Nov.28, Black Friday is Buy Nothing Day in North America. the rest of the world gets it tomorrow, November 29, the biggest shopping day AFTER Black Friday. Like DUH? What the eff were you thinking? To me, I think it makes the whole idea behind decreasing consumerism and purchasing crap into a big joke.

Art ‘H’ Box Project presents…

FRANKIE RICH! South African born, Canadian citizen, Toronto based Fine Artist Frankie Rich has much of her work housed in both public and private collections across the globe. Included in the collection of the South African Embassy, Ottawa, her work, paintings and sculptures, have been exhibited to great acclaim in South Africa, Canada and the United States. Frankie’s paintings are imbued with a deep sense of spirituality, and her approach is a joyous one, perhaps best explained in her own words: “Art can be understood, it cannot be explained.” Frankie has been invited to participate in the prestigious Arts ‘H’ BOX project, an innovative, roaming screening ‘hall’ which presents major new video commissions by eight rotating international artists. The itinerant nature of the H BOX allows it to travel the world between renowned museums and highlights the exciting fluidity of video, a medium now reshaping the twenty-first century. Each year four new international artists will join the rotating programme while four others give up their places. You can see Frankie’s artwork on Sunday afternoon from 2-5pm at88 Mutual Street, Toronto, Apartment 1008, Entry code 1092. Be Inspired

I sat in on a friends class a few years ago at University of Waterloo. I do not remember what she was taking as her major but I have always taken a liking to university classes no mater what genre. The class I attended this particular day was on focused on Shakespeare. It made me think “Shakespeare is fascinating, I want to be fascinating“. I came up with two things inspired by the class. Often, when I am in class, especially when not a registered student, I am inspired by a variety in topics and unexpected ideas of interest. acutely ironica bird writes a sonnetsings the sonnetout of tuneacross the riverto a loon Prof, Englishspeak prof speakfor what you sayis what you teach teach prof teachfor i sit hereand yearn to learn read prof readfor what you dois how you lead lead prof leadfor i sit hereand fight to write
