Telus Day of Giving 2014|Garden Paint Party!

20140606-103515-38115425.jpg

Last weekend EmBot and I volunteered at the ninth annual TELUS Day of Giving w/ 15,000 TELUS team members,  who took part in 700 activities in local communities across Canada.

20140606-103516-38116310.jpg

We worked in the garden area painting signs for the community planters. at the Harbourfront Community Centre. It was really fun painting these, thinking about picking some up for the cottage and painting on the dock.

20140606-103515-38115756.jpg

Some of the team with us that day cleaned up the garden area in the middle of the centre. It was lookin’ pretty shabby when we arrived and by the end of the day is was beautiful! We all had lunch in the courtyard to finish the day. 🙂

Thanks Emma and the Telus TO team for inviting us! Been working with Telus since 2009 and my first mobile phone was on Clearnet back in 2000. How can you not love their ads? This little guy has great hair.

#SaveYourScreams #MMVA 2014: 2 Noms, 1 Commercial!

#saveyourscreams

20140606-101355-36835209.jpg

The 2014 MMVA show is next weekend and this year is an exciting one for me! Sean and 1188 Films are nominated for two awards in Post Production AND my sister is an MMVA commercial now playing on your TV. I’ve always loved the MMVAs and in 2010 I was the Social Media Manager for the show while I worked at MuchMTV.

1188’s nominations are for Hedley – Crazy for You and Sam Roberts – We’re All In This Together. He’ll be attending the show with his team and I’ll be prepping to hit the town after and *hopefully* celebrate them bringing home another award. Cross ya fingaz!

MMVA Post Production

Last year Sean & 1188 worked on Drake’s ‘Started from the Bottom’ which won video of the year. In 2012 they won an award for Down With Webster’s ‘Big Wheels’.

20140606-101355-36835124.jpg

Keep an eye out for my samurai-sword-swinging sister on your TV. Jenie Stewart is in an MMVA ‘Save Your Screams’ commercial. It’s pretty funny, they made the girls look pretty rough and fight against each other. Love it!

Watch Jenie’s 2014 MMVA Commercial #SaveYourScreams

It’s also pretty exciting Lorde will be at the show. GO TEAM NEW ZEALAND! She’s killing it! So proud of Jenie, Sean, and Lorde! As for me, I’m getting a Chevy Camaro convertible for that weekend from Klout so I’ll be feeling pretty great too.

Happy Friday my friends!

Cat Footwear SS 2014 | New Shoes For Me and YOU!

Giveaway from @CatFootwearCan & @CasieStewart. Enter here! #newshoes #pickme https://casiestewart.com/blog/

Hi guys! Let me tell you about my new shoes and how you can win a pair!

I recently got to check out the latest from Cat Footwear and was once again impressed with the stylish and dainty yet rugged styles. You’ll recognize the logo from construction equipment and big machines but little did you know they also make really nice shoes. You might remember a while back when I got my first pair Cat of boots, Stella.

Giveaway from @CatFootwearCan & @CasieStewart. Enter here! #newshoes #pickme https://casiestewart.com/blog/

The leather is SO soft and I wore these babies for an entire winter and walked all over the city, and to different cities on my travels. They are very comfortable and as time goes on, they age like a fine wine. Comfortable shoes are the best kind, Vessi footwear have plenty of comfortable shoes which are also 100% waterproof and you can wear them on any occasion, including those water adventures that you like to go on with friends and family.

From the Spring 2014 look-book I picked the ‘Mahoney’ in Nile. They are a clean classic oxford with a nice solid sole and leather upper. I’ve got a pair with your name on them! Buying a pair of new shoes feels like a well-deserved treat! Plus, we wear shoes pretty much every day, so whether you buy shoes from sites like Peter Sheppard, from a charity shop or from a shoe store on the highstreet, hopefully, it will be money worth spent.

Giveaway from @CatFootwearCan & @CasieStewart. Enter here! #newshoes #pickme https://casiestewart.com/blog/

Enter below to have a pair of the same shoes sent to YOU. We’ll be twinsies and if we are ever in the same place at the same time wearing them we are totally taking a shoes selfie. Contest is open for one week and open to anyone in Canada.

Thanks for reading and following my adventures!

Oh hey, this is the kitchen at work. The sunshine is so bright there in the morning, you could wear your sunnies but it’s not really necessary.

Been trying to get in a bit earlier lately. I find I get heaps done when I’m up at the crack of dawn. I relish in the silence and calmness before the story of the day with tasks filling up time.

There’s some exciting news coming about work in a couple weeks and I can’t WAIT to share it with you. This is your warning, COOL THINGS HAPPENING.

Orange is The New Black – Season 2 Starts Friday!

I LOVED orange is the New Black and binge watched it last year when it was released on Netflix. Last night I went to the TIFF Bell Lightbox to watch the first TWO episodes of Season 2. I won’t say anything but you’re gonna love it. Thanks Netflix for the invite to watch with my partner in crime!

Grillin’ Up Some Brekky w/ My Homies

Sasha, Garret, and I make a mean Saturday morning brekky. We grilled some steaks and asparagus wrapped in bacon, made french toast, and eggs in a hole. It was delicious!

Since we filmed I’ve used my little Griddler quite a bit. Before spring arrived with BBQ season I was grilling chicken breasts, cooking steak, sausages, and more. It goes up to 500 degrees so it fully cooks your food and FAST!

That’s a wrap on our 4 part video series, thank god!

There is Such a Thing as Too Much Nature

There is Such a Thing as Too Much Nature

And I discovered it it this weekend. Once again, I was attached by bugs. One little jerk even bit me on the eyelid and not it looks like somebody socked me one in the face.

We had a relaxing time at the cottage with Sean’s parents, great dinners, and lovely weather. Next weekend is Field Trip so I’ll be staying in the city. Mum just informed me that if you take lots of B12 they won’t bite. Good thing I know that now for the rest of the summer!

20140602-125244-46364369.jpg

I’m really behind on blogging but it was SO NICE OUT this weekend I couldn’t bring myself to stay inside and do work. I’ve got a bunch of things to share this week! Stay tuned 🙂

If you haven’t yet, you can subscribe to THIS IS MY LIFE and get a nice little email delivery when I update. Each email includes 4-5 blog posts and is send once a week. BBQ: The Perfect Red for Your Steak Dinner

Last week I was sent a bottle of Concha y Toro’s Winemaker’s Lot 148 Carmenère Blend.

Last week I was sent a bottle of Concha y Toro’s Winemaker’s Lot 148 Carmenère Blend. It’s always a great surprise getting alcohol deliveries at the office! This Carmenère Blend is a full bodied red, perfect for summer BBQs. I decided to save it for the weekend where we paired it with steak, potatoes, salad and corn on the cob. It’s got warm earth, fig and black cherry notes pair so paired with a juicy steak is a match made in heaven.

Throughout its 130-year history, Concha y Toro has worked to produce superior quality wines that represent the diverse and distinctive origins of Chile. Today the winery and its award-winning wines have become a global benchmark in terms of quality.

Exclusive to Canadian market, the Winemaker’s Lot 148 Carmenère Blend retails for $18.95 at LCBO stores across Ontario. I recommend it as a great host gift for your summer bbq. Especially if the host is you, ha!

But There Are 365 Days of the Year, Honey!

But There Are 365 Days of the Year, Honey!

I have this coffee shop that I regularly pass by on my way to work where the regulars always comment on my shoes. They don’t know anything about me except that I work in the area, so, they nicknamed me ‘Shoes’. One husband said he doesn’t understand why his wife has SO MANY shoes, “she only has two feet!” he said. I was quick witted in my reply,  “but there are 365 days of the year, honey!’. Laughter ensued a the table and throughout the shop.  I left with a smile from ear to ear.

Shoeme.ca recently asked me to be an Ambassador and offered me a $150 gift card for the site. In my first visit I was pretty impressed with the prices and selection. I’m all about cute flats for summer so I was stoked to see Keds and Converse. I picked out these two pairs of Keds (as seen on Taylor Swift) and a cute pair of Hush Puppies all for my $150 (shipping included).

If you’ve not visited the site you might be offered a discount I’m looking at these leather sandals and these white Converse – Dainty knowing I really do not need them, but… What is it about shoes that makes us feel this way?

I was wearing these lovely little red & white guys on my birthday in Trinity Bellwoods the other day. Don’t mind that my shoes are a little dirty. I wore them before I had time to take their photo.

I love a little summer dress and cute, yet comfortable shoes. Apparently so does she.

Lemme tell ya, I feel like Taylor Swift in my new Keds. BTW her campaign is really cute.  🙂

One for One: Evergreen Eyewear by ClearlyContacts

One for One: Evergreen Eyewear by ClearlyContacts

One for One: Evergreen Eyewear by ClearlyContacts

My friends at Clearly Contacts recently contacted me to LMK about their new Evergreen Collection where made from 95 per cent recycled steel and plastic frames. The new line takes a page from TOMS in that when you buy a frame, they plant a tree. Over 30,000 planted trees can be attributed to the company’s philanthropic effort. That’s heaps! For every Evergreen frame sold, a seed is sent to a tree nursery in a developing country, where Agroforestry workshops provide local farmers with the necessary education to help cultivate their own land.

The frames are eco-friendly and vintage inspired with lots of bright colours. I got to pick a pair from the collection in exchange for posting and naturally went for something a little wild! Seen here are the Tortoise/Pink that can also be ordered with sunglasses lenses. I could have used these those for the photos! I absolutely love glasses and have written about them with ClearlyContacts a bunch of times before (herehere, here, and here).

They’re fashion for your FACE! You like?

Suffer for Your Art | Sunset Canoe Ride

Last night we went for a romantic sunset canoe ride. It was so incredibly beautiful. Took these with my GoPro. Jumped in the lake before calling it a night. It’s so great to be back up at the cottage. The weather this weekend was pretty nice except the bugs were HORRIBLE. I really ‘suffered for my art’ as Sean calls it because I got about 20 nasty bites while on the canoe ride. Mostly on my bum! The little buggers got me right through my Lululemon pants!

This week is gonna be great! Today is the warmest day of the year. We’re about to launch some AWESOME stuff at work and today I’ve got a NXNE site visit for our festival sponsorship. The Jays are doing great and Thursday I’ve got a double date with Lauren and our BFs to sit in the Bacardi Best Seats for the game. We went last year and it was awesome.

Here’s to a wonderful week and warm sunny days! Don’t forget to wear sunscreen 🙂

Global News at Noon: Money tips for Millennials

Global News at Noon: Money tips for Millennials

I was recently included in a press release with TD for a study they did about millennials and money. They found that kids like us are better off if we see a financial advisor. When they called me about the study I said I agree 100%. About 5 years ago I set out a payment plan with a financial advisor to pay back my $30K. My goal was to be debt free by the time I turned 30 and I DID IT. I blogged about it recently here.

Philistine Toronto shirt, Tiffany & Co silver pearls, Joe Fresh boyfriend jeans, NastyGal shoes

It’s almost hard to believe this actually happened because there was a long stretch there where I wondered how I was ever gonna pay back my school and credit cards (from school). I honestly and sincerely encourage you to talk to a financial advisor because there’s nothing like having control over your debt instead of it controlling you. From millennial home buyers to millennials in the workplace, there are many stereotypes that the previous generation have on people in this age group, which isn’t always true. Although times are hard for this generation, it won’t get an better unless you decide to take charge!

Here’s me on Global news at noon today with Faisal Yousuf from TD Bank.

Millennials and money the two don’t always mix so well. The generation is often accused of mismanaging funds and wasteful spending. So we’ve brought in TD Canada’s Faisal Yousef, and blogger Casie Stewart to offer some solutions to gen y’s money woes.

Weekends Were Made for Love

Weekends Were Made for Love

Love = cottage

Had such a great time at the cottage this weekend.  Posted a few Instagrams of our fun here. Thanks to the TimeHop app I was reminded that I’ve been coming up here with Sean for two years now. I really fell in love with the ‘Cottage Sean’ back then. This weekend it was so great to go for long drives, sleeping in, take naps, lazing in the sun, and hanging out with friends together. I am SO happy summer is finally here. You’ll be seeing heaps of cottage photos for the next six months. We’re going back this weekend 🙂

Artness is All Around You

Artness is All Around You

Saw a bunch of artistic things around today as I was out walking. One kinda crazy thing I saw was this let of kids mannequin legs out for the trash bin. Naturally, I snapped a photo and posted on Instagram. My friends at the AGO regrammed my photo as part of their #isartalien pop up.

As I was on my way back to the office after lunch I saw that a mad had picked UP THE LEGS and was taking them somewhere. I creepily snapped this photo to document. You know how I do! Hopefully he is using them as a sculpture or something artistic…

This table is at Ravi Soups, I thought it looked lovely with the chairs and floor pattern. The floor in there was super slippery from the rain so I was concentrating on it quite a bit.

On Monday night Sean and I took a little trip up to the Toronto Artemano store. It’s located just north of Eglington on Caledonia. With furniture stores in Montreal, Toronto, Quebec and more, they specialize in high quality wood furniture and home décor shipped anywhere in North America. I know Mum would really love this place.

After a busy day it was lovely to escape to such a peaceful atmosphere. Janaya welcomes us into the store for a private shopping experience. They’ll be featuring my five fav items from the store in an upcoming post on their blog. There are heaps of magical pieces for yout home made from salvaged wood, boats from Thailand, and massive fallen trees. Yesterday was my birthday and to be honest, it was a really long and exhausting day! I’m dying to get up to the cottage an have some peace and quiet time in the wilderness. I went to the doctor for a checkup. I know strange thing to do on your birthday but I had the day off work and I’d been putting it off for ages.

20140509-125052.jpg

Keri and I had lunch at the brand spankin’ new California Sandwiches at Bay/College. I had NO IDEA they had locations that were so modern. I’d only been to the the Claremont location that is older than your grandma.

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY (TOMORROW) OMG.

Omg guys, tomorrow is my birthday! I’m taking vacation from work and spending the day with my sister and friends.  I’ve not planned anything special. Last weekend I went to the spa, I’ve got a hair appt tonight. I want to watch a movie w/ Sean tonight, get a good sleep, and wake up refreshed. I really HAVE gotten older, eh? Planning to visit my mama on Sunday to celebrate us both. After all, I WAS born on Mother’s Day way way back!

This is a GIF I made for my birthday last year, 2013.

2012 was a fun time. Sean Hawaii had a huge party and I jacked it to be my very own!

21!

Want to say thanks for tuning in and bring part of my life. I’m thankful for everything I’ve achieved and will continue to do awesome things and tell you about it. That’s all for now. Thank you and love ya 🙂

Stop to Smell the Roses, Treat Yourself

Stop to Smell the Roses, Treat Yourself

I started this weekend off right with a trip to Hammam Spa early Saturday morning. I spent about 30 min in the steam room before my St. Tropez treatment. It’s a sunless tan type application and to be honest, I think it wore off already and I won’t do it again. The experience itself was great and I booked with Cynthia who is awesome.

Smashed up some bananas in the blender to throw into this mix when it came out of the juicer. It was a great way to start Sunday morning. I made Sean and I nice breakfast and we watched Romancing the Stone, an old romance-find-the-treasure movie from the 80’s.

20140505-101959.jpg

These shoes arrived Friday from the NastyGal Shoe Cult. I made a mistake in the postal code when I purchased them and I totally thought they were on their way back to NG HQ.

Had lunch at Free Times Cafe for Ariel & Chris’ engagement party. It was fun and the food was amazing. I really like Yiddish music. I wish I understood! The piano player was from the National Ballet of Canada too.

20140505-102121.jpg

Stopped by the Parkdale Flea Market on the way home. It was such a nice day out I just wanted to do things outside! I picked up a shirt for Sean with an illustrated bear that is running. It’s super cute.

Made a delicious juice this morning with spinach, kale, grapefruit, apple, pear, and a dash of cinnamon. It’s so freaking good! If you missed our latest Cooking with Cuisinart episode with the juicer, watch it here. I feel good if I keep posting the juices I make because it serves as a good reminder for me to keep making them. I’d determined to drop a few LBs this month!

#cookingwithcuisinart

When I arrived at the office this morning my tulips had bloomed, aren’t they beautiful?! BTW the Toronto Flower Market opens this weekend. Details here. I love popping by to pick up flowers for a friend (for any/no reason), or just to treat myself. I’d love a nice medley of roses!

I’m ready for a great week and have booked the day off on Thursday for my birthday. Friday is a half-day cause a bunch of us are going to an art event. I know it’s Monday but I’m already looking forward to the weekend! Yesterday I cooked up a bunch of meals for the week too. [pats self on back there!]

Sending good vibes your way.Happy Monday!

Making Magic w/ Garret and a Food Processor

In this episode, Sasha, Garret and use a  Food Processor and make a delicious pizza (Garret’s recipe!) and chocolate muffins.  TBH, the pizza was so good I ended up taking some home for Sean We made the dough and topping the food processor. I didn’t really know what a food processor was before we filmed this. I had no idea you could make so many things with it. Garret uses his all the time for breads, salsa, even homemade hummus. Props to him for the nice image above.
