It’s been an exciting two days so far. We’re going to see LOTS more social integration with broadcast media this year. Everyone is talking about transmedia storytelling, telling stories with brands across different platforms in traditional & new media. Mobile everything.
I’ve learned about some really neat technology in 3D that is really freaking cool. No glasses and the most real picture you have ever seen. I hear sports look absolutely amazing.
I’ve got a couple minutes in my hotel room before my Blackoptek treat mate Darren Pereira is on the panel about Social TV. Panel starts at 3pm Calgary time. Panel is Social Television: Ways to Engage, it’s gonna be a good one. Deets here:
Larry King isn’t coming tomorrow night for the award show. I was hoping we could hang out. Oh well, off to next panel! Hope you’re having an awesome day. If you are in Banff and see me, make sure you say HI!
I just came from a keynote by Paul Lee president of ABC. It was refreshing to hear his thoughts about storytelling through media. I things brands and broadcast networks have an INCREDIBLE opportunity to tell stories through trans media. The internet is your friend guys. Paul Lee said “for all the business models, the play is still the thing”.
In the spirit of being refreshing, check out this short film The Drop, shot by Johan Renck for Perrier. He’s one of one of the most respected and sought after directors of commercials and music videos right now. The shooting took place during 5 days in march 2012 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“When everything is melting on Earth, a gorgeous heroine is sent into space to refresh the world with a bottle of Perrier…”
The film plays on all what makes Perrier a unique and iconic brand: it’s sophisticated, elegant, incredibly hot and has a unique French touch to it. Perrier has made a couple film now and I enjoy the way they have taken to YouTube to create a feeling through film and go further than just making a commercial. Good job guys!
Some Takeaways from this morning’s Keynote for Brands:
Need to lean forward like a kid, with genuine interest
We have access to brilliant new technologies ex. Instagram, Xbox
Need to lean back, take things in, feel the story
TV is really about storytelling
Storytelling is changed, more choices
Viewers have limitless possibility to consume
Smart viewers choose when & where to watch
More from Banff World Media Festival later today! Check out HOW beautiful it is here right now…
Driving on the Trans Canada highway from Calgary to Banff. Great flight on WestJet, picked up the car and hit the road. I met a bear.
“The Trans-Canada Highway (French: Route Transcanadienne) is a federal-provincial highway system that travels through all ten provinces of Canada. It is, along with the Trans-Siberian Highway and Australia’s Highway 1, one of the world’s longest national highways, with the main route spanning 8,030 km (4,990 mi).” Wikipedia
Happy I packed all the clothes. It’s cool & rainy. Fully prepared with Wellies and yellow raincoat. Opened my suitcase, pulled out a vintage fur and leopard hat. Stylish and snug as a bug. Pat Hope, my Fairy Godmother would be proud!
I could see what we are diving past right now. I’m gonna wake up in the Rockies. This is crazy.
Went to an awesome event last weekend with Lauren at Brickworks, FOAM – Festival of Art & Music. Such a great venue. Who doesn’t love a good warehouse party? Photos by Brian Hamilton for iChannel. Whole album on iChannel FB.
FOAM is held in support of motionball (motionball.com), a not-for-profit organization that introduces the next generation of supporters to the Special Olympics Canada movement through social and sporting events.
In other news, just got off the phone with Brick Bronson in LA who is behind The Weeknd about his new artist Everyday. Born in NY, raised in TO and super talented. This is his first track FIRE.
I hope that some piece of it will elevate your spirit. May we all touch a heart. somehere, sometime..
This week flew by and the next two are going to b e the same. LOTS happening this month. Neutral tones & grey were popular colours in my posts this week. Not many bright colours like last week.
Came across a neat tool for looking at your Twitter stats. I love looking at this stuff. I never think about the stats when I’m publishing so looking back at trends, patterns & stats is cool. Based on my last 4,000 tweets I publish approx 59.2/day and one of my tweets is retweeted about every 10 I publish.
There’s lots of sailboats on the lake today. We’re heading to the airport in a couple hours flying WestJet into Calgary about 11:30pm. I’m stoked.
Had a great prep-talk with a friend I look up to last night. Ready to kill it in Banff. I’m coming for you Alberta, the world!
Creativity is waterfalling. Clear head, open mind .The next ten days are CRAZY. Banff World Media Festival, NXNE, MMVA then to Detroit with Ford and it’s July. I’ve been practising for this for a long time. Legggggggo!
Mum sent me an email about this earlier today. Such nostalgia.
Found some other oldies today. Tie die, white jeans, long hair, this is me in Grade Nine baby.
Part one of the first episode! We’ll be filming in the Canadian Rockies at the World Media Festival next week. I’m super stoked to head out there for my first time! Please subscribe to Coral. I can’t wait to share more of THIS with you!
It’s been picked up and curated for the on the Banff World Media Festival website already and showed up in my Google Alert. Cripes! I wanted this for a long tine and now it’s a REAL THING.
No turning back now! THIS is my life, thanks for being part of it!
Been loving a couple online shops lately. I don’t buy as much in real life as I do in my dreams but I like the ideas they give me to spice up my existing wardrobe. This image is from the Wanelo email. Wanelo is “a way to find unique products and stores you have never heard of.” I’ve been drooling a bit, figured I should share!
I hate the emails from Nasty Gal, they read my mind and know exactly what I want/am wearing. The ads follow me around online, taunting me with things they know I want. JERKS! These emails are what made me cave and buy a few pairs of Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Everything they send out is so nice and they have a monthly lookbook.
I think I have all these outfits on some vintage variation.
I love Jane Fonda in this Pucci Pre-Fall outfit. My fav collections are Cruise & Pre-Fall almost every year. One day I’ll have a boat and get to wear the cruise collections. Until then, I’ll settle for Mum’s boat and her vintages. 😉
Some wisdom shared by two of my fav fashion blogging ladies, Gala Darling, a Kiwi blogger living in NY and Gala Gonzales, an It Girl from Spain, living in London who travels the world for fashion. I partied with Gonzales in NZ at Fashion Week once. They’re both awesome girls you should know. Follow G.Darling and G.Gonzales.
On this day last year I arrived in Pensicola, Florida for work. We stayed in Margaritaville. It was beauuuuuutiful! Planking was a thing at the time and I tried to create a new trend ‘mermaiding’, it never picked up. See some pix here.
There were over twenty entries for the Sherway Gardens Spring Style contest and the winner is… VANESSA GRILLONE. Thank you everyone who entered. I’ll have more giveaways this summer. Some of the entry tweets below.
I’ve always taken ‘The Wizard of Oz’ very seriously, you know. I believe in the idea of the rainbow. And I’ve spent my entire life trying to get over it. Judy Garland
