Air Optix Colors: Green Eyes, Yeah The Spotlight, Shines Upon You

Air Optix Colors: Green Eyes, Yeah The Spotlight, Shines Upon You

In today’s adventures, I’m trying out my latest pair of Air Optix Color contacts, Gemstone Green.

@AirOptixColors Gemstone Green, @casiestewart #blonde #blogger

I absolutely loved my last pair of Brilliant Blue contacts (see the post here) and how they dramatically changed my look. I have hazel/green eyes so adding these Air Optix Colors to my natural eyes is more of an enhancement.

@AirOptixColors Gemstone Green, @casiestewart #blonde #blogger

Here’s a breakdown on what makes these contacts unique:

  • They use 3-in-1 color technology to define, transform, and brighten.
  • Comfort; as a n00b to wearing contacts, I’ve learned they’re really comfortable. I forget I’m wearing them until I look in the mirror and then I’m like WHOA.
  • Breathability – Even if work for cosmetic reasons (like me!) they’re great for daily wear.
  • Beauty – I love wearing glasses and now contacts are a cool way to enhance my look. They’re used by celebs and a fav of Nina Dobrev.

@AirOptixColors Gemstone Green, @casiestewart #blonde #blogger

There’s an array of colors available and I’m hoping to try them all. You can get a rainbow pack which has 3 colours of your choice (2 lenses of each colour). Otherwise, AIR OPTIX COLORS are available in 2 packs or 6 packs of any given colour. Ask your eye doctor about them next time you get your eyes checked!

Up Your Selfie Game Part 1: 10 Tips for Better Selfies

Up Your Selfie Game Part 1: 10 Tips for Better Selfies

It’s 2015 and the selfie isn’t going away.  So, in the interest that you’re remembered in the most awesome and beautiful way, it’s time to up your selfie game! I’m not writing history with this post but I thought it’s about time I pull something like this together.  I’m practically a ‘Selfie Expert’ after 10 years of self-photography.

Have a tip or trick I haven’t added to the list? Share w/ me on Twitter @casiestewart. Next week I’ll share Up Your Selfie Game Part 2: Apps & Accessories.

Here’s a collection of tips to take better photos of yourself:

  1. Find your best angle. Know your good side. For most people the best angle is just above eyeline.
  2. Check your lighting. A good light source is your friend. Natural light is great. In a dark space, look for light to shine on your face so the photo isn’t dull. If you have a front facing flash I advise against using it as it will give you a forehead glare and redeye.
  3. Watch for shadows. If the sun is shining your way make sure you don’t get the shape of your phone on your face. Also watch for the shadow of your camera in your hand blocking the light. Rectangle on your face isn’t a good look.
  4. Be yourself. If duckface isn’t you, don’t try to be like KimK or someone from MySpace in 2004 (that was me). Show your smile, focus on those great lips or beautiful eyes.
  5. Do a background check. Make sure things aren’t in the way. Ex. bathroom selfie w/ toilet paper or toilet is not cute.
  6. Freshen up. Touch up your lipstick, make sure your eye makeup isn’t messy.
  7. Look into the camera or away, not at yourself. Remember where the camera is, that little black circle!
  8. Strike a pose or a couple. Make your photo cute, do something! Or take a few photos and make a collage with different faces. Show some personality, baby!
  9. Full body selfies? Have a clutter free space. Laundry and/or dirty dishes look sloppy, clean up first. S-shape is your friend. Lean a shoulder forward or turn sideways a bit for a more svelte look.
  10. Relax. Take a deep breath, chill. You don’t wanna over think it!

That’s all for now. Remember practise makes perfect. I’ve taken THOUSANDS over the years. Tweet your selfies to me at @casiestewart. 🙂

Have an awesome day!

PRESS RELEASE

Marrying Warhol’s distinct vision with the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star, the partnership between two pop culture icons celebrates creative self-expression and pays homage to the visionary artist. The new collection features bold Warhol imagery across an array of expressive Converse footwear for men and women.

Hailed as the preeminent artist of the 20th century, Warhol was an iconic visionary whose legacy continues to inspire rebels and artists everywhere. He creatively merged pop culture, film, music, screen printing and performance, opening the door for millions of artists and performers. Since 1987, Warhol’s vision and creativity lives on through The Andy Warhol Foundation, who fosters innovative artistic expression by supporting work that is challenging and experimental in nature. To help further the non-profit’s mission for the advancement of the visual arts, a portion of the proceeds from the Converse All Star Andy Warhol collection will support The Andy Warhol Foundation.

“With this collection, we aim to celebrate and foster the innovative artistic expression that’s intrinsic to both Converse and Andy Warhol,” said Damion Silver, Converse All Star Design Director. “Andy Warhol famously created art inspired by American pop culture icons, and was a pioneer in utilizing the Chuck Taylor All Star as a blank canvas for his work. From this shared creative history grew our collaboration with Warhol.”

My New Friend from France, Polette Eyewear

Polette Eyewear, Casie Stewart, blogger

Polette Eyewear, Casie Stewart, blogger

Eyewear have always been a staple in my wardrobe. I’ve always had a large variety of costume glasses of different shapes and sizes. I’d much rather have a bunch of affordable styles instead of one or two fancy ones.  I like variety but I’ve also been known to lose and break them (unfortunately!).

Polette Eyewear, Casie Stewart, blogger

Late last year I was contacted by Polette eyewear in France and offered a spot on their blogger team. In exchange for sharing my fav glasses from the site, I get to pick a couple pairs EACH MONTH.  Perks of the job guys, squeeee! I can’t wait to stock up and share new shades every couple weeks.

My First Polette Eyewear Order:

  • Devil – rose coloured lenses
  • Léosummer – yellow/green fashion lenses
  • Gracie Mile B – blue/black lenses

Polette Eyewear, Casie Stewart, blogger

Polette has a pretty neat story. Founded by Pierre Wizman, a young entrepreneur at 16, he launched the website in 2011 with his biz partner and just like that, they were in business. Their goal was to be the only intermediary between the consumer and manufacturer to cut down on price without skimping on quality.  When you visit polette.com you’ll see there’s a wide selection of styles starting at $6.99.

Polette Eyewear, Casie Stewart, blogger

One of the cool things about placing your order is first you pick the frame, then lenses (anti-scratch, reflective), then lens tint (ex. red/black), and finally tint level (red ones above are 85%). I didn’t really understand this at first but I know for next time now!

Polette Eyewear, Casie Stewart, blogger

I’ll be posting my new glasses monthly as they arrive. Would you like a pair too? It’s been ages since I did a contest so enter below and we’ll send you your choice of glasses including prescription if you need them (mine are not prescription). Contest doesn’t include Vintage or L’Atelier collections.

Indecent Disclosure: ROACH BAIT

SELFMADE
When I started blogging 10 years ago I had no idea it would turn into a thing. I knew about 3 bloggers in the WORLD and I merely started ‘THIS IS MY LIFE’ as a way to keep memories.

In 2009 I was given my first products for review. I was contacted by Matchstick Marketing and tested out a Zune (that old MP3 thinger) and also a vibrating mascara from Maybelline. I popped into the washroom at my office to record this video of me testing the mascara. I told the world I was sent a product for review and they gave me some to share with friends.(See original 2009 post here.)

I was digging through an old hard drive when I found a note I’d made about ‘roach bait’, no not an insect killer, the marketing ‘bait & switch’ used in undisclosed celebrity endorsements.  I’ve not heard about it since but it distinctly reminds me of what’s happened with blogging.
Roach Bait n. A marketing message delivered by an actor posing as a regular person with the intention of having that message passed along to many other people.
2001 (earliest)
Then, there’s the ‘roach bait’ technique. Under this scenario, the paid huckster doesn’t necessarily buy a drink for others. He’s often found sitting in a prime spot at a bar or club, very visibly drinking Brand X. He talks up the brand big-time in the hope the good word will spread.
—Theresa Howard, “Freebies take on brash new form,” USA Today, May 15, 2001

Sound familiar?

Bloggers and people with some achieved sphere of influence are constantly called upon by brands and agencies to eat, drink,  wear, and visit places with hopes the’ll share that experience online.

The thing is, as a reader, observer, we never really know if the person is being paid or really believes in the product? Don’t just do it for the money! A blog that’s just out there to  make money is loses the root of what a blog is, sharing, a web log.

Disclosure:

You could not pay me to write about something I don’t like. No kids, no animals is a rule I’ve lived by. There’s the odd photo of Sean’s daughter but I don’t review kids or animal stuff. I would like to get a dog one day so maybe this will change.

Bad product or experience? I email the agency/brand. I don’t have time to write scathing or negative reviews, plus I DON’T WANT TO. I turn down WAY more things than I ever write about. I tell you when I’m given something, ie. Saje Wellness post earlier today, but I buy lots of things too.

It’s a pleasure to work with great clients and be able to make a living from blogging but’s also hard work. Writing a post takes time to research, photography, writing, editing, publishing, posting, promoting. These are what brands pay for – THE WORK.

Photo from 2009 by Kelly Kruschel

Be yourself, that’s why people like you. It’s important to build a good reputation and trust with your readers, fans, followers, friends. One bad move can ruin your reputation and throw all your hard work out the window. As a seasoned blogger, I feel it’s important to create, write about non-product or sponsored things. Give people a glimpse into what really makes you, YOU, not matter how crazy you might be.

If you’re ever looking for some info on writing your own disclosure policy, check out this post from the IBF (International Fashion Bloggers). They’ve got a TON of great resources!

That’s all for today. I’m off to a lunch date w/ one of my girls and then an art party w/ my love tonight. Weekend starts NOW!

HAVE AN AWESOME DAY!

Relaxation Station: Saje Wellness & Essential Oils

Saje Wellness

This week I went to a nice little event at the new Saje Wellness store on Queen Street.  During TIFF I went to the NKPR IT Lounge and was introduced to the brand.

IMG_0782.JPG

When I told my friend I was using oils she called me a hippie but this is NOT that old school hippie stuff! There are heaps of benefits to using essential oils, read about 9 benefits here from Balance Me Beautiful.

IMG_0851.JPG

Saje Wellness uses all natural oils and has heaps of different wellness products and accessories. My first experience was this little pocket pharmacy. It’s awesome to keep in your purse or carry-on when travelling. My fav product is the Peppermint Halo that’s amazing for headaches. It’s cooling and calming and now one of my ‘essential’ items.

IMG_0785.JPG

I was pretty impressed to see how big the store was and how many products they have.

IMG_0775.JPG

They hooked up us bloggers & media peeps with our choice of nebulizer. It helps reduce dust and other common allergens while creating a pleasing atmosphere of aromatherapy. I picked the Aromagem in black because I thought it was sexiest!

IMG_0832.JPG

One thing I learned last night was that the recommended 10-15 drops was too much for me. It really fills the air and I found 5 drops to be enough.

Saje has 22 locations across British Columbia, Alberta, Winnipeg and Ontario and you can check out their products at saje.ca.

I’m SO ready for the weekend. It’s my sisters birthday on Sunday and we’re staying at the Royal York Hotel. I can’t wait, it’s going to be super relaxing! Might just bring my nebulizer to fill the air with aromatherapy.

Happy FRIDAY!

Target Canada: For good times and bad times, I’ll be on your side forever mooooore!

Winter in the city, summer in Muskoka

Before I get to todays regulary scheduled news blog post I would like to take a minute to remember some of the great times I’ve had with Target Canada over the years. I have a few posts posts mentioning the brand and had the opportunity to work with them on a few things since they arrived in Canada. I’ve visited a store nearly once a week since one opened close to my house about a year ago. Did nearly all my holiday shopping there too!

Who remembers that AMAZING Target Lounge at World Mastercard Fashion Week a few years back???

Toronto has NEVER seen such luxury. And we probably won’t again tbh. It was marvellous. Food, open bar, two floors, charging stations, tables to work at, open every night before, after, and during the shows. I’ve never had such a great time at WMCFW. Oh behalf of media & bloggers, everywhere, thank you Target for showing us how to really go ALL OUT.

Let’s not forget the recent Toms for Target collab. They sent out Together Sweaters to bloggers and media around North America to promote the collection. So cute. Keeping mine forever.

This blanket from the Toms for Target collection makes a great poncho. Can’t wait to open the cottage again.

Got my Instax Camera from Target this summer.

Decorated our roof patio with Target things this past summer including items from the Oh Joy for Target collab. Target partnered with popular bloggers/Pinners to create a whole collection. Thanks for recognizing us internet people!

And finally, I’m REALLY hoping that Lilly Pulitzer for Target still comes to Canada in April so I can snatch up as many things as possible. The whole collection is beautiful and bright.

Thanks for all the good memories Target Canada. I’ll miss you! My ukulele gently weeps.

Like Whoa, Whoa Wednesday!

Elton John

Whoa, whoa, whoaaa! It’s already Wednesday and I feel like I’ve lived a week since Monday. There’s lots going on and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed today but I can handle it. It’s that nervous excited feeling that keeps me going.

IMG_0744.JPG

Sean got a new needle for his turntable so threw this record on last night and sang out loud while cleaning the house. I’m working to get our spare room turned into a nice little office now that I’m working from home. I hope the neighbours didn’t mind that I put it on repeat, a few times. Bennie and the Jets is one of my ALL TIME fav songs.

I had a really great lunch meeting yesterday and am finally putting some production wheels in motion for two projects I can’t talk about. I’m pretty stoked that our film Behind the Red Carpet is now on CBC’s website too. (See here!).

Went to Local in Liberty Village and had 1 fish, 1 chicken taco. THEY WERE DELICIOUS.

IMG_0748.JPG

Sunday is my sisters birthday and I booked us a room at the Royal York Hotel. I have never stayed there and it’s one of those places I’ve always thought of as very ‘Toronto’. Tomorrow is my slowest day of the week and I’m looking forward to working on some blog stuff, playing ukulele, and treating myself to a new mani.

It’s a weird and wonderful world I live it in but I wouldn’t change it for anything! Hope there’s sunshine where you are and if not, ALWAYS BRING YOUR OWN SUNSHINE!

Travel Tuesday: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic

You ready for vacation? This week we’re looking at Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Yes, I like Pina Coladas.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Currently browsing packages and flights to Punta Cana because I need to ditch this cold and soak up some sunshine! It feels like -30 in Toronto today! My sister went to Dominican a couple years ago and since I’ve been to a bunch of the surrounding islands (Cuba, Puerto Rico), so it’s on my destination list.

One of the things I love about the Caribbean is the beautiful blue water. I adore being near the ocean and salt water on my skin. It’s also a great opportunity to practice my Spanish. Since I’ll be travelling alone, I don’t really have to speak to anyone if I don’t want to!  One of the best things about going on a solo trip is plenty of time to do whatever you want and/or keep to yourself in silence.  You might be thinking ‘but you are so outgoing!’, truth is, I really cherish my alone time and everyone needs to recharge their batteries. I’m one of those ‘outgoing introverts’ if you can believe it.  Travelling alone is an excellent way to explore a new city or country. If you’ve never done it I HIGHLY recommend it.

Does this not look wonderful?

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

I’m looking to stay at a quiet resort without kids. I’d rather be amongst seniors than people on family vacation! Aside from vitamin D and relaxation, this trip is to put finishing touches on my book before it comes out in March.

A photo posted by GoDomRep (@godomrep) on

My ideal spot is an all-inclusive resort on the coast with white sand beaches where you can catch a few waves. Last time I went surfing was 2013 in Costa Rica so I’m dying to get back on a board. I dreamt about surfing last night.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Have you been to Dominican Republic? Have any reocos? I’d love to know. Ready to book ASAP!

Sending sunshine through the airwaves right to where ever you are!

Blue Eyed Baby: New Air Optix Color Contacts

www.airoptixcolors.ca

When was the last time you had your eyes checked?

For me it was longer than I could remember so when Air Optix Colors invited me to visit an eye doctor for an exam and look into color contacts I was all in. Depending on your age and risk factors, adults should see an eye doctor every 1-3 years.

Over the holidays I saw Dr. Acs at Toronto Eye Care. Turns out I’ve still got healthy eyes and don’t need a prescription. I was super impressed with the technology they used to creep inside my eye, look at my retina, and take images. It’s really been a long time because I don’t ever remember having photos of my eyes taken by an eye care professional.

Here’s a look at the back of my eye and the retina. I was a little freaked out when I saw them but Dr. Acs confirmed this is exactly what a healthy eye should look like. Crazy eh!

The little spidery things around the edge of this photo are my lashes.

Left1-20141223@102158 leftrdp12232014

My first experience wearing contacts as an adult was in November last year after attending the Air Optix Colors Canadian launch. Remember those vibrant Sterling Gray ones? (see post here) I loved how they changed my look and they went well with my violet hair. I really wanted to try Brilliant Blue but they didn’t have them at the event so I picked up Brilliant Blue over the holidays.

I love my natural hazel eyes but changing things up is fun too. I put these in and wore them for and entire day and to dance rehearsal. They’re comfortable and I forgot I was wearing them until I looked in the mirror. They’re so bright!

1-IMG_0796

I was a bit freaked out about removing them but Dr. Acs gave me some pointers and this time it was easy. One pair of lenses lasts 30 days before expiry. Mine don’t have a prescription and are just cosmetic but if you wear contacts on the regular I can see these being really fun.

2-IMG_0784

For info visit airoptixcolors.ca or ask you eye doctor. There’s 9 different color lenses. My next pair will be Gemstone Green and I can’t wait to see how they make my natural eyes pop.

Happy Monday & here’s to a great week!

It’s Great to Be a #GirlBoss

The week started out with a really exciting meeting and just got better and better. I’m behind on today’s blog and have heaps to catch up on. If this week is any indication of what’s in store for 2015, it’s gonna be a REALLY good year.

Finishing up at the 1188 Films office for the day and waiting for Keri to pick me up. We’re having a long over due blog party at her place tonight and I can’t wait. Nothing like a good old fashioned night on the couch with your BFF to wrap up a great week.

TBT: Diary of a Background Performer

TBT: Diary of a Background Performer

Years ago I used to work in film & tv as a background actress. I spent hours, and hours sitting in holding waiting to be called to set. It was a really fun experience and I met heaps of cool people. One summer I spent months working on the set of American Pie: Beta House.

There were heaps of really cool people on that set including now CP24 weather reporter Patricia Jaggernauth, recording artist Ish Morris, actress Meghan Heffern, and my sister (who had her own trailer for part of the summer).  Eugene Levy was in it too.

Jennifer Stewart in American Pie

Below is a little diary entry  wrote while sitting in background holding on the set of Degrassi at Degrassi High in 2008. This photo was taken years later when I worked at MuchMusic & MTV and was given a Degrassi shirt.

I started thinking to myself as I sit in Background Holding for Degrassi High…. Here I am working on a show I’ve never seen surrounded by a bunch of people whom either I’ve met over the last six weeks or are new faces. Its’ great. I hear the sound of “Its Raining Men” on the set, I’ve managed once again to avoid being used or getting on camera. (This is often a goal! lol) It’s a total dream when you get to spend the day sitting in Holding, getting paid to do whatever it is your little heard desires until they call for lunch or “everyone on set”. I’m hoping that today I make it until lunch.

My first experience as a Background Performer was working on the set of “American Pie presents Beta House”. I was booked with my sister to do four days of continuity at a mansion in Thornhill. The place was beautiful! We met at Background Holding, a circus tent in the middle of a shopping mall parking lot. As we checked in with casting at a mere 6:30am the tent began to fill up quickly with about 200 extras who had been booked to work that day. Lucky enough, I was with my sister so I wasn’t alone. Today is my first day working without her and when you’re by yourself, the desire to be on camera and have a good time, for me at least, is very low. I would much rather sit here in the background and work on something else.

The first day of American Pie turned out to be quite fun. We managed to meet some great people and looked forward the next few days. As each day passed we made more friends, all of which included the cast and crew, writer, producer and the casting team.

Now, keep in mind, being a background performer is not as glamorous as you might initially think. At first we didn’t stop by hair and makeup, although there is no escaping wardrobe. They will not let you go anywhere without checking your outfit. Trust me, if you brought one thing in your bag that you would rather not wear, chances are wardrobe will make you wear it, that is, if you haven’t’ made friends with them yet. There is food provided, which is great. Here’s hoping I get booked for more days, this is pretty fun.

Oh man, those were some great memories. If you’ve got time and are looking for something fun to do, there’s always jobs for background performers. I learned heaps about how film & TV are made and just how many people it takes to make something you watch on a screen. I’ve done a bit of tv, commercials, and film since then. Did you ever see my commercial for the Comedy Network? I played the role of ‘Hipster Girl’ and said “I expose people to magic”. That was fun.

Here’s to Thursday, ‘best day of the week’ as Keri says. I’ve got lots more TBT stories to share over the next few months.

Have an awesome day!

Fashion File: #LillyforTarget, Joan for Céline, #mycalvins

Joan Didion for Celine

Here we go, couple great fashion stories yesterday! I also had my hair done. Stopped into The Loft, Queen West and decided it was time to ditch the violet and bring back blonde.

IMG_0423.JPG

I love the decor in there, it’s all vintage and charming, the furniture,  old trunks, china plates, brass fixtures. Reminds me of Mum’s house growing up. I’m heading back there Friday afternoon for a Dermalogica facial. I’m addicted, I’ve been getting them on a regular basis for a year now.

Target announced their latest collab, Lilly Pulitzer for Target. The collection comes out April 19th AND Target Tweeted me IT’S COMING TO CANADA. I’m so stoked. I can’t WAIT to redo our rooftop patio and spice up the cottage Palm Beach Style. I’ve reached out to my friends at Target to see if I can get involved or at least front of the line on opening day. Read more about the collection in the release from Target here.

Chalk this on the life goals board! Author, fashion icon, and one time Vogue editor Joan Didion was named as the new face of Céline at 80. You’re never too old to have great style! I love that they’ve made this decision. Read more about it on Vogue or anywhere else that reports fashion.

In other news, The Biebs is the latest to join the ranks of notable celebs to post for Calvin Klein. He’s all grown up and totally catching some heat for the campaign but mostly because some of the shots look weird. I reckon the one shot looks like his head has been shopped onto his own body and it’s ver giraffe like. See the video below.

The others are pretty awkward. Good for you Biebs but I reckon you should have a word with your manager. Spiro from It’s All Style to Me posted the whole set, check out Bieb’s package, looks like socks to me!

That’s a wrap for today’s post! Hoping to shoot something for an upcoming project outside today but we’re in an EXTREME COLD WEATHER ALERT. Not sure if that’s really gonna ‘go’ with my concept.

Travel Tuesday: Let’s Go to Thailand

TRAVEL, THAILAND, CASIE STEWART, CONTIKI, GUNNAROLLA, LILLY SUPERWOMAN

Pack your virtual bags, we’re going to Thailand on the blog today!

IMG_0054

What better time than now to share travel stories of places warmer than Canada?! During winter we all think about planning a getaway to somewhere sunny and warm.

I’ve got posts ready to publish each Tuesday for the next few weeks taking you on adventures to popular travel destinations like Thailand, Australia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and more. So, if you’re sitting at your desk or hibernating inside you house, I invite you to come on a virtual vacation with me.

I arrived in Bangkok and spent a few days there before heading to Chiang Mai. In Bangkok I visited the floating markets, ate on Khao San Road, and cruised around the streets picking up souvenirs. In Chiang Mai we rode bikes, visited some temples, night markets, saw a lady boy show, and experienced torrential rainfall. I also went to the Shangri-La here and it is FABULOUS.

My most favourite places were Koh Tao and Koh Samui. Koh Samui is said to be the best place to go for relaxation after bustling days in the busy city centres of Thailand. It truly is a beautiful place. If you’re interested in visiting Koh Samui, you can learn more on this site about Bangkok Koh Samui. I also loved getting massages. For only a few USD/CAD you can get an hour massage. It was common for me to get more than one a day, so spoiled. Look at this pampering! For a few extra bucks across the street you could get the full expereince with Absolute Angels Bangkok, if only I was single!

IMG_0673

We took a 2 hour ferry across the ocean and although beautiful it was REALLY rough. People were throwing up off the back of the boat and seating area below smelled like sick by the end of the trip. I sat up top of the boat getting the best look at the scenery.

IMG_0063

The islands are where the parties happen and there’s heaps of clubs. I also had lots of Pina Coladas.

I’d wanted to get Angelique Houtkamp’s ‘Drifting Heart’ tattoo for a while so when I had a free hour I looked up the best tattoo spot in Koh Samui and got it done. The rest of my travel crew thought I was crazy but YOLO.

IMG_0021_2

One of the coolest places I stayed was Charm Churee Villa on Koh Tao. I had a beautiful suite to myself with a huge bathroom and balcony. All I had to do was skip down the stone stairs to get to the beach.

IMG_0108

IMG_0150IMG_0121

I also went on a snorkelling day trip which was so fun.

IMG_0289

IMG_0287_2 IMG_0331_2 IMG_0597

Before going on safari we stopped by this park to go down the waterslides. I don’t recommend holding your GoPro while you do it. I managed to drop mine and someone had to fetch it. Whoops!

Made a friend with the same hair.

IMG_0766 IMG_0834 IMG_0874

My last night in Thailand was spent at the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, one of Bangkok’s top 5 star hotels. Why not finish the trip in luxury?! The hotel is absolutely beautiful. Worth getting a tour if you’re planning to stay there. Living the high-life in this beautiful Thai hotel has really made me wish I could have a Koh Samui Property of my own to enjoy.

IMG_1025

If you’re looking for adventure, I highly recommend Thailand holidays. There’s so much to do there you could spend way longer than I did. I hope one day to go back for at least a month, maybe the whole winter! Have you been? Love to know your fav things, tweet me @casiestewart.

Hoping this post brings you some warmth wherever you may be!

Day 5/365 and We’re in Business, Baby!

What a whirlwind yesterday was whoa. I took a walk to get my nails done (manicure Monday!) and decided it was cold enough (-20 something w/ windchill) to whip out the vintage mink coat I inherited from Sean’s aunt via his mum last summer. Went well with my new YSL glasses & long read leather gloves.

IMG_0308.JPG

This coat is heavy and insanely warm. After about 10 minutes of walking, I opened it to get some air, I was sweating! I know how people feel about fur but this thing is already made and would be sitting in a closet if not worn by me. It’s back in hanging in mine now for a special event in the dead of winter. A friend of mine loved the coat but didn’t like the fact it was mink (understandable). She got a really similar faux version from Lily Lulu Fashion. It looks great and can’t even tell it’s faux fur. A floor length mink coat really isn’t practical for a girl on the go. Chuckling to myself as I wrote this.

A few years ago I made a New Years resolution to take care of my nails. I’m not really into ‘resolutions’, I like setting goals all year but I felt this was something reasonable. Having your nails tidy and polished makes you look put together. Notable.ca posted yesterday that having your nails done is one way to look richer than you might be. I got this fancy shellac design to kick of the start of 2015 business. You like?

IMG_0322.JPG

In other news, my hair is crazy right now. I can’t decide that to do with it. It’s the awkward in between stage before a bob and the colour is so faded. I’m bored with it. Looks like I’ll be rocking hat head till spring.

IMG_0310.JPG

I ended my first day back at Tricon Films & Television in the most exciting and inspiring meeting I’ve had in a long time. 2015 is truly going to be the best year yet! Note how cool the chairs in their board room are! Him & Her designed by Fabio Novembre from Milan.

Today is another opportunity for adventure. Who knows what it will bring?! Stay warm out there if you’re in Canada, we’re in a deep freeze. Will be posting some sunspiration later today!

Ok Here We Go, Bundle Up! ❄️

Ok Here We Go, Bundle Up! ❄️

Ok it’s back to the grind and totally freezing outside. I know it’s hard to keep your head up but you MUST. Your attitude will shape everything around you. Grab some summer photos and keep them close by for inspiration.

IMG_0298.JPG

Make sure you have super warm gloves, hat, scarf, jacket, boots. The only way to get through this it to bundle up!

Here’s to a great first day back. I’ve planned out heaps of new and old things to write about and I can’t wait to share.

With love,
CASIE

* Also, on a positive note, I feel it’s appropriate to bust out my vintage mink coat!

Winter Doesn’t Have to Suck: How to Make Snow Paint + Some Stuff to Watch

War Paint on Netflix = hilarious

Woke up early yesterday and made myself breakfast in bed. Spent some quality time on my computer quietly typing away and chatting with other early risers. Our roof top patio extends from the loft bedroom upstairs and the morning light is so lovely. I like making the most of a cold winter morning all cosy up in the bed reading or writing.

My Lost My Marbles laptop skin is quite a hit. The Apple cutout gives your laptop a sleek and classy look. If you wanna add some marble to your gadgets (iPhone, Android, computer, tablet, gaming system) visit nuvango.com/casiestewart. They don’t offer the apple cutout on designs but if you email [email protected] with your order and request it they’ll make sure you get it. TBH this design really looks better with the cutout.

We got some pretty gnarly snow in the middle of the day. Thank goodness we have new tires on the truck. EmBot really wanted to go play outside with the snow paint so I put on the hot pink 80’s 2 piece I inherited from Sean’s mum and got ready to roll.

These exact paint things were a Christmas gift for her but making something like this to do with friends or kids is super easy. We used to do this heaps when I was little.

How to Make Snow Paint

  1. Get some type of squirt bottle ex. old shampoo, dish detergent
  2. Mix food colouring + water (careful it WILL stain your clothes)
  3. Go outside and have a blast!

Sean picked up this little snowball maker from the dollar store and it works awesome! After we coloured snowballs and drew all over the hill we went across the yard to make a snowman.

IMG_0248.JPG IMG_0249.JPG

I absolutely love playing in snow! You probably forgot how fun it is because getting all bundled up seems like a burden but it’s NOT.

The snow turned into rain mid afternoon so we packed up and went inside for hot chocolate. Next snowfall I really wanna go sledding. I’m not one for skiing and I really don’t like snowboarding but don’t mind sliding down a hill. Weeeee!

How cute s this little guy? I’m sure there’s a whole whack of things to do with them on Pinterest.

IMG_0272.JPG

Discovered these at Loblaws and they are SO GOOD. This is your warning that you’ll eat the whole bag in one sitting.

Sweet chilli Pistachios, so yum!

Dad gave us a bunch of meats from his shop Gone Local Meats & More for Christmas so I cooked up some delicious free range chicken breasts with a ton of roast veggies.

IMG_0277.JPG

If you’re in the KW area go check out the store in Breslau. They’ve got TONS of local meat, bread, jams, produce, and other stuff from local farms close by. Their logo is an illustration of my dad and his wife Cheryl. Cute as!

Gone Local Meats & More, local, organic, free range, produce & meats

If you’re looking for something to watch on Netflix Iliza Shlesinger is HILARIOUS. We watched her standup for the second time last night and it was just as funny. Also watched Top of Lake, a mini-series based in New Zealand from BBC. It’s a crime/drama and well worth the 5 hour binge.

 IMG_0286.JPG

Day 3/365; ate well, played in the snow, had some good laughs, and a great sleep. Day 4 is workout and de-Christmas the house. Here’s hoping the tree doesn’t make a huge mess!

On Day 2 There Were Wearables & Edibles + The #SelfieStickSpin

@casiestewart @jeniestewart #selfiestickspin

Day 2 of 2015 started and ended great. It was beautifully sunny when I got up. Made Embot some brekky and dropped her at school. With my reclaimed love for granola, stopped by to pick up a few groceries, came home made a nice brekky and got to work. Selfie stick put to use to capture the sunshine.

IMG_0089.JPG

I have a feeling it’s only a matter time before we see “no selfie stick” signs or theres an assault with a selfie stick. They’re really intrusive and super annoying when travelling. People on phones are already a bother, add in a metal rod with a phone on it and things get a lot more hairy. I admit I’m fully part of the problem here but for the record, I am a documentarian observing culture and selfies are part of my work. 🙂

Decided I missed violet hair and tinted it again. It’s a bit brighter than I expected, it’ll fade with each wash though. This photo makes it look almost neon. I must remember this for next time.

IMG_0126.JPG

Later in the evening I headed East to visit my sister. We went for fish n’ chips (or fush n cups as they say in NZ!) and laughed our heads off while casually watching hockey. Not because the hockey was funny but when us sisters get together we can’t help but have a hilarious time.  Yay Canada for the win.

IMG_0112.JPG

In 2015, fashion & food come together for the latest in wearable edibles. Onion ring jewellery! Ate these right off my arm bc they were burning. And delicious.

Moderation is key when it comes to healthy eating. Nothing wrong with throwing down some greasy goodness here and there. I think there’s no real point in limiting the things I love in life. YOLO!

IMG_0118.JPG

I was showing her my selfie stick but didn’t want to take a photo that showed the inside of her apartment so I spun around to blur the background. This was one of those aha moments of inspiration. SELFIE STICK SPIN.

IMG_0218.JPG

This Instagram is the first ever recorded mention of #selfiestickspin on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I know this could be really annoying at festivals or any public place but it’s an absolutely hilarious and addictive thing to do at home. We changed outfits and spun around together full of laughs until we fell on the floor almost peeing our pants. Now that’s a good Friday night!

Day 2 of 2015, invented something, had lots of laughs, and spent time with someone I really love. This year is off to a great start!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Sean and Casie, Jan. 1 2015, Day 1

Writing each day is really good for you. It helps you get things done, assists in memory, and for me is really great therapy. If you’ve ever wanted to start a blog and think “what will I write about?”. Let me tell you, there’s so many things that happen in a day, you can find inspiration everywhere. What you eat, drink, wear, or where you travel to, even in your own city. If you open you eyes to the world and shift your perspective, you’ll see it in a new light.

Day 1/365, 2015: Here are some great things that happened

  1. Made notes about my day in a new notebook. I like spiral bound 5.5 x 8,5 in blank sketch paper. It’s for things I don’t blog like what I eat, vitamins, workout, how many Mason jars of water I drank.
  2. Did a new workout. Sweat my ass off.
  3. Ate good food. Nothing deep fried or heavily processed/takeout. Not being hungover really helped with that.
  4. Reclaimed my for love for granola. Yes, I like granola. Used to eat it heaps when I was a kid and my new found love for lactose free milk, it makes a delicious snack.
  5. Got a selfie stick. Sean bought one for me at Pacific Mall AND I LOVE IT. IMG_0006.JPG
  6. Opened my new Clarisonic Pearl and used it. Started with Clarisonic in December 2014 and have noticed my skin is more soft and ugly.  It’s important to write this down so I always remember to use it. One minute can seem like a long time when you are in a rush.
  7. Put on fuzzy socks with Vaseline. If you read any beauty blogs or check Google this is a sure way to get super soft feet.
  8. Tagged my images properly in WordPress. Sometimes I’m a lazy blogger ok.
  9. Enjoyed a clean bedroom and fresh brand new sheets.
  10. Cleared space off my iPhone and Macbook Air. Have been meaning to do this for ages. This was an old text from an Uber driver. I laughed. LUBER haha. IMG_0075.JPG
  11. Folded the laundry AND put it away.
  12. Spent some quality time w/ my love. Including foot massage!
  13. Drank heaps of water.

IMG_0053.PNG

I feel like I’m forgetting some other little gems that passed through the last 24 hours but I’ll remember those tomorrow, day 2. I’m trying to write more (~500 words/day). My goal of 2015 is to spend less time on the computer and more time doing things worth writing about.

Until then, this is my life 🙂

Waking up not hungover feels great! I’m ready for an amazing year and focussed more than ever on making it a success and being the healthiest I’ve ever been. 2015 marks 10 years of my blog and we’ve been on quite the journey together. I’m glad I never gave up and can’t wait to see what adventures the new year brings.

365 Chances to Create the Life You’ve Imagined

So, yesterday I wasn’t feeling so hot and I was hoping I was just tired from a busy weekend but today I am worse. My throat is sore and my whole body aches. I’m trying to look on the bright side, it’s forcing me to sit on the couch and spend some time with my computer and there’s a chance I might drop a few lbs before the New Year. I’m drinking heaps of water, have chicken soup, and Sean is home sick too. Our house is quarantine.

I don’t get sick very often but I’ve blogged about it a few times:

Looking back, I usually only get sick in winter. Apparently ‘it’s going around’, from my limited interaction with other humans the last 24 hours. After a really busy year I think a few days thrown up on the couch will do me well.

I’ve finally set a date for the release of my book on Amazon and have an ISBN number. There’s no turning back now. When I wrote my first book, JEANS, back in 1996 there were waaaaaay more hoops to jump through in order to self-publish. Thanks to the Internet, you can now publish at the touch of your fingers.

I also signed up for ukulele lessons and I will be able to play by the time summer rolls around. I’ve been meaning to to both those things for a while so feeling pretty good the wheels are in motion for 2015. I have a great feeling about this year. 365 new days and chances to create the life you’ve always imagined.

Anything on your list for 2015? I’ve turned off comments to tweet me at @casiestewart, I’d love to know!

That’s a Lot of Blog Posts

Doing a massive crawl through my blog for stories and fav posts from the last 10 years. There are thousands of posts. I wonder how long my blog would be if I printed it out? I’m gonna look into that.

Turns out it’s kinda hard to print out your blog posts when you started writing back in the WebLog ages. I imagined this would happen.

I’m spending the next few days going over my adventures to England, Costa Rica, LA, SF, Thainand, Cuba. Taking a look back at people I’ve met, events, and places I’ve been.

I’m looking forward to taking you through the archives. 🙂

Holidays Ova, New Year Right Here!

Holidays Ova, New Year Right Here!

IMG_7423.JPG

I’m back! Miss me? You won’t skip a beat if you’ve been following me on Twitter or Instagram or checking into casiestewart.com. I’ve got RebelMouse life feed sharing everything from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, tumblr, and Pinterest.

Took a few days off and lazed around the house after Christmas chilling w/my family and Sean. I’ve been watching Hostages on Netflix this weekend and it’s about an attempt to assassinate the president. After about 8 eps it started to get a bit silly with so many twists and turns but I feel I can’t stop switching now. Dylan McDermot and Toni Colette are the leads and I really love her, she’s so versatile. The guy who played Jimmy Cooper on the OC too. My sister partied with McDermot in Dominican a few years back, they were at the Maxim Mansion opening.

I’ve been thinking about the last year (as one does before NYE) and I’m planning to post a few of my most treasured moments.  More on that starting Wednesday, New Years Eve.

Remember: You’ll never be as young as you are today so make the most of it. 🙂
