really fun but my legs kinda hurt today

Happy I didn’t drink much last night so I can fully remember all the greatness that was #spinTO. There were so many awesome people there that above and beyond the flashing lights, bare skin and dancing the crowd was larger than life.  mod-spinto

I spent most the night outside racing in racing suit and cheering on all the other peeps that gave ‘er a go. I raced 2x and in this video I’m Racing Kevin Joseph and he beat me.

He was fast. It’s hard to race like a mother bitch for 500 metres. My legs can feel that I worked them and they’re probably going to make me pay for it tomorrow. The lady beside me was cheering me on so hard, she thought I was kicking his ass. I wasn’t but she was so encouraging, it made me feel like I did! This was my best time and last time. spinto-012

i like when the leaves come on the building

I was walking into the office this morning and it was really beautiful outside. Sabrina and I were giggling our little asses off as I proceeded to say “I like then the leaves come on the building”. Being our immature selves she replied with “I like when you come on the building”. I hope you can imagine just how funny this was. I almost peed my pants. No, I did not make an error I wore pants today.leaves

I’m heading to Spin TO tonight at the MOD Club on College. SpinTO is a fundraising project that kicks off today and celebrates the Friends for Life Bike Rally from Toronto to Montreal in support of the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation. The theme is Solid Gold and I think you should all come if you can.  Tickets are on sale for like the next two hours but you can also get ’em at the door. There’s lots of fun stuff happpening there tonight.

i love this city and your photos

Toronto is a great place to live. There is always something to do whether its warm or cold or you have money or don’t. There are so many pockets of creativity and diversity that it makes me proud of our culture and country.

300 Toronto Panorama Images from photojunkie on Vimeo.

My friend and photographer extraordinaire, Rannie aka photojuknie has taken 300 panaroaic photos of our great city and compiled them in an awesome video. Each of the he 300 photos in this set were taken with an iPhone for his entry into the Hypercube viral campaign  icanhaz.com/hypercube.

He shared the video with me and I liked it so much I wanna share it with you too. You can vote for him here.

the worlds greatest gift, thanks mum

When my Mum was pregnant with my sister I was 3.5 years old.  I distinctly remember laying on Mum and Dad’s  water bed and being asked ‘what should we call the baby?” I was an interesting kid, as I am an interesting character now and could only think of one name to call her, Jenie. I had a whole slew of dolls at home and each one I had was named Jenny.  I’m not quite sure why or what made me love that name so very much.

A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.

~Marion C. Garrettysisterlove-4

I love hanging out with her. It’s like we’re little kids again half the time. It’s also almost creepy how alike we are. We talk the same and say the same things at the same time all the time. We make the same hand gestures when we talk and do the same knee-slap-head-throw-back when we laugh really hard. Kills me.

sisterlove-2

Having a sister is something I am so grateful for, I have someone who will always be there for me and pick me up when I’m down or tell me when I need to pick it up.  Jenie is on Twitter too if you want to follow her.  She’s not all internet/twitter obsessed like me, but she is 100% pure gold. Pure gold. sisterlove-3

palmerston is beautiful on both sides

I’ve find that biking is toning up my beach body.  This is really nice considering I hate the gym. It gives me anxiety. I’m lucky to have these super mutant-like muscles that when I do any exercise I get almost instant results. minibike Yesterday I was biking to Yorkville for #wiredwedTO and took back streets. Didn’t have helmet on, sorry Mum. Will pick it up this evening just for you. I rode down Palmerston Boulevard, one the most beautiful and truly one of my favorites. minibike3Most of the houses on Palmerston Boulevard were built between 1903 and 1910. It’s a nice one to bike on and there’s hardly any cars. I like it because of the trees and the houses and because a bunch of my family live in Palmerston North, New Zealand.  ‘Young heart, easy living’ they call it.minibike2Palmy (as the Kiwi’s call it) is a very beautiful city north of the capital, Wellington, in the eastern part of the Manawatu Plains, and close to the northern bank of the Manawatu River. I love it there. They have lots of windmills and rolling hills that is absolute bliss. You can see them from the back yard at Nana’s old house where Mum grew up. It’s really pretty.minibike-palmy1

she was happy dancing with her arms over head

Drum circle happens every week during the summer. It goes down at Cherry Beach one week than Trinity Bellwoods the next. I usually only go to TBP because it’s closer than the beaches.  I love it.  There are lots of mad hippies dancing. There are also lots of skid kids too.

drumcollage

We moved our home-base-blanket around a few times to avoid the dirty kids from contaminating us. One time a kid puked while sitting in front of us and we picked up shop like nomads and moved in NO time.

drumdance

My favorite is being in the middle of the circle dancing with my arms flailing around. There is something magical about the connection between the music and the people all being brought together in an open space .  When it gets really hot out there’s more girls & boys with their shorts and shoes off dancing.

drumfriends

There is drinking and smoking in the park  all around.  We saw a couple of kids chasing each other around with McCain pies and tossing them at each other. What are kids doing these days you ask? That I guess. There were hundreds of people there. You can hear the beating of the drums as you approach the pit in the park, I love that sound!

this is sadie, she spins fire from me again on Vimeo.

There’s fire spinning too. Some nights there is lots of fire spinning!! This girl was really good she was doing the hula-fire-hoop and poi’s at the same time. I’m not even going to try that, I’m waaaay to accident prone. Overall, stellar time. Absolutely stellar.

i like to call him whitey

This guy deserves his own post. I’m a big fan of uniqueness and this, is a rare and unique sighting. Yesterday I spotted an albino squirrel at the Park.

whitey4

There is an albino squirrel society, so if you’re interested in preserving this creature check out the ASPS. He seems to have quite a personality on him. I watched him jump playfully from branch to branch in different trees. whitey2He seemed to be enjoying himself. After our photo shoot he scurried away across the park. I’m sure he’ll be at Bellwoods again. Maybe you can spot him too? whitey1

lay down in the grass and feel the sun on yo face

I always know the start of summer from two distinct things:

  1. The first time I have Chippy’s on the grass in Trinity Bellwoods
  2. The first outdoor Drum Circle in the pit at the back of Bellwoods
  3. summer3

Last night, I experienced both. My fish and chips never tasted so good as I got my hands dirty and wiped the grease on my sleeve. It was magical.summer The sun was shining down on my face sending vibes of energy so bright I could not help myself from just laying in the grass and soaking them up. Welcome summertime, I’m happy you’ve arrived!! summer2

nowhere else you’d rather be than there

You know those days when the sun is shining and you get in the car with a few friends and cruise to the beach or the park. You lay out a blanket followed by food and drinks and you lean back and feel the sun on your face. Your mind is free and in wanders as you feel complete bliss and serenity knowing that there is  nowhere else you’d rather be than there , that very moment in time. I feel like that today, well, a connection to that feeling. newport-beach-north-shore-nswThis is a me at Newport Beach on Sydney’s North Shore in NSW, Australia. I went surfing for my very first time. It was about 7am and the sun was rising. It was more than beautiful. I met this man in Bondi who’s called the Bondi Groover he said “Life’s not about being naughty, it’s all about 60/40” (in Aussie, that rhymes). surfing-body

art hives: Saturday in Kensi with Charlietron

We went into “This Ain’t the Rosedale” to check out some books. I got 2 really creative mini ones that fit great in the purse. I love those little ones.

Trying on fancy hats is always one of my favorite things to do, along with trying on stuff and taking my picture in it. I went to Bungalow and as I was leaving but then found this totally rad dress that was black with RED LEATHER! I knew it must be tried on, by me. Obviously.

I went to the Cameron House and the bathroom stall I went into your DJ Scootz in it from 2007. Rad! Charlie and I read books there and listened to some live music. He tried on my glasses and put his book upside down for the pic by accident. I
think it looks intellectual.

I dug for some scarves to find jems. Got hooked up these. Those vintage babies were only a buck a piece. God I love that, I make it look a million bux!

All & all, I haven’t had a Saturday afternoon in Kensi like that for a couple weeks and it was lovely.

pretty shitty kitty city…meh.

I’m having one of those days where work seems like the hardest thing to do. I want to write and work on things for good causes and take pictures and make art. I picked some lilacs at lunch and sat in the park.  The lilacs smell so pretty,  they create an aroma of spring around me. It’s lovely. prettyI wore a dress today that spins round, this is me in the sunshine. Today is the day I think to myself, you should be a full time blogger. It seems hard and a big jump from having a stable job with catered lunches and benefits. Meh. I wish that day would get here sooner.may11-004

You spin me right round right round, Irish styles…

#spadiawatch #tamilprotest #holycow

I went for a bike ride at 5:30pm and was like whoa mama there’s a mad protest on Spadina. They were at Queen Street heading South.  I’ve never seen something like it.

crazay

I heard heaps of sirens and saw police cars rushing towards the Gardener at top speed. The protesters proceeded to head up the Gardener ramp from Spadina and blocked the highway. I ran over to the spa room on the 27th floor next door and got some great photos of what was happening. It didn’t look to be violent in any way.

crazay

There are tons of kids in that group. I don’t know who would ever want to do that with their child. It’s getting cold out there too.  After posting photos and videos on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Vimeo and 12seconds I got this  Tweet from Steve Austin at City TV asking to use my footage with a credit. Who’s a reporter now!? Hopefully it doesn’t last too long. Good thing I bike to work and it won’t interrupt my day!!

todayisbeautyKaraoke at the Gladstone Hotel was great fun. SO many photos and videos. Uploading to flickr and vimeo now.  We had quite an afternoon at the pool today. Watched the storm over the water. It was magical. Heaps of pix of Jenie & I in bikins etc. Awes0me. I love summer. Heading to pick up my Edie Dress now for dinner this evening. Forgot yesterday was overwhelmed with relaxing at home. The wind outside is madness right now. Sabrina and I are gonna walk. I’m looking for a latte, probably Dark Horse. bikini sky

there’s something about ‘zombie face’

Months ago I went through a Zombie phase. I loved it. I love Zombie face.zombie-face

I don’t like scary things, I mean like blood and guts and horror. Makes me feel anxiety and pain but let me tell you, there’s something about the tattoo I put on my arm that I totally love. I put it on again.  I wear fake tattoos and when I find one I like I buy the whole lot. Sometimes I don’t want it enough to have it all the time, just sometimes.

oldernow

I went for a bike ride to the LCBO on Queens Quay by the water. It was beautiful. There was one problem, this guy. This guy with his gut out, walking so freely along while topless.  It was not appealing. Thus,  I share with you as fair warning it is not recomended style to go walkabout like this unless you’re a babe.

The tower.  The tower was pretty today beside my bike.

from the opera to the tata’s

Last night I went to Opera, as in the COC (Canadian Opera Company).  It was nice to see my friend on stage. Precious really. I’m not a big Opera fan, I found this out last night.

coc

After trying not to fall asleep and banging my forehead on the railing in front of me, I peaced out at the half with friends. I’m just not that into opera.

peaceoutI wanted something more exciting and let me tell you I found it. I went to Monsoon where my sister is now working and they were having a special night for a new vodka and she was wearing a shirt of body paint. Totally hot.

the brighest sun in the sky

Is shining down today. Its warm out. I feel happy. I’m extremely grateful for the friends I have in my life. I love you. I jumped out of bed this morning and put on one of my new bathing suits from the Billabong sample sale. I got two amazing bikini’s and a hot one piece. Great deals. It’s still on today at 67 Mowat if you’re interested. There’s mad deals. I think I’ll be wearing them all day! Still no plan for later, we’ll just have to see how the day goes! I like it that way.

something from my old guy

I read over this blog and I think, I know I wrote all this stuff but it boggles my mind trying to remember where and when. I read it and I develop a feeling, a memory, something familiar. Last year on this day I was in Quebec City & Montreal for the first time. Was good fun and very relaxing. Makes me thingk, I feel like I could really use a get away.

one more day and i’m one year older

Each year when I birthday rolls around I feel a bit of anxiety planning something that’s ‘all about me‘. I know that seems surprising because I write about myself each day, but this is like a diary and I write to remember. I love planning events, but events for other people, charity and helping others. It’s easier when it’s not all about me, although I obviously like the attention. So, when everyone asks ‘what are you doing for your birthday?’ I rarely have one answer and it usually results in anxiety. I’m gonna be home tomorrow night and have some friends over. I think it would be asshole of me to expect a big shout out when I don’t have the cash to pay for it all. Wait till next year…I’ll start planning waaaay early to alleviate the last minute anxiety I’m facing now. All week I’ve been seeing friends and doing fun things. The things is, that’s not much different from all the other days. I try to make sure that my friends know I love them and that I am very thankful to have them in my life. This the best birthday gift anyone could ask for. This picture I love.

It’s a little bit funny this feeling inside I’m not one of those who can easily hide

I wake up and have a quick shower before getting dressed. I wear pants today. I put on a dress shirt, the tuxedo one and a heart shaped locket without any photos in it. It’s long and silver and dangles as I gather my things and reach for my coat. Glasses, keys, phone, camera, do you have everything? I say to myself as I pick up my laptop carry case and head for the elevator. It’s not too slow today, I get to the ground and lead the herd our the door to work. I dry off my seat from the rain. I unlock and mount my bicyclette. The air is cool but warm on my face as I photograph the skyline over the lake. I steer towards the office. It’s cloudy and grey yet very beautiful. I feel free and alive and barely notice how my body aches for the first two days back on the road. It feels great. I arrive in the village greeted by the hustle and bustle of a place that thrives from nine to five. The train must have just left. There is a pleasant joy in the air; spring is here to stay. Smiling inside, I ride over the old brick road through the train tracks to the back of the factory. For the first time I dream of working in an art factory, my own. I park my bike and head inside. I arrive in ten minutes, this ten minutes glides me through the day. I’m ready to work today. I have the day off tomorrow, it’s my 27 birthday: May 8, 2009.

run.on.sentence #328

today i am feeling a bit of a cold and possibly by the news reports with all the tragedy and gun fights that happened last night some others are feeling cold too i’m staying in all day and i’m wearing a pirate shirt and i put the zombie tattoo on again last night because i love it i’ve got pen and paper and links in my fingers to share and i’m going to write about things that i like because that is what like to do and it makes me happy when i do it and i’m glad to know that other people like reading it because there is nothing more fun than making art and sharing it with people you like andy warhol told me once that being good in business is the best kind of art and i totally agree with that its the best and most free that you can be just creating things and putting it out there

closer to god

The day begins to come to an end and I find my mind wandering, wondering. I listen to CBC Classical online. I feel relaxed and look forward to riding home and the breeze in my hair. I’m picking up my Edie Sedgwick dress from Peach Beserk this evening. Made to order and tailored to fit. I always liked Andy Warhol, as long as I can remember. I was walking through this outdoor mallway over the weekend, I think it’s beautiful.Listening to this music I feel inspired to write, to read more Ogden Nash and to create things that never existed before. My coffee is warm and so is the air around me. It’s comforting and leaves me feeling safe. My shoulders are bare and the light is barely coming through the clouds. I really love the movie Closer, there is something so real about the relationships between the characters and their melancholy love tales. Natalie, Clive, Jude and Julia, good kids. I feel it in my legs, the biking from yesterday. Tomorrow there is a Billabong sample sale at 67 Mowat Avenue. Two weeks ago I wished they would have one so I could get a new bathing suit for my birthday, then I got an email a couple days later. Thank you universe, you listen to my thoughts and you bring me closer.

mum says i need a helmet

Last night I had a bbq with some of my besties ever. Our boy @NickiP is visiting from Curacao and we took it to the roof and roasted some meat. The sky was full of colour and the tower was unobstructed.Mum rung me last night knowing that I’m back on the bike and insisted that ask I my online friends to help me find something to protect my head. I have always loved riding and when I was younger Mum said “No more riding bike without helmet” and from then on so I never rode a bike until I moved out of the house. I had a BMX bike in Bondi that had pegs on the back. This red cruiser is my favorite. If I’m going to get a helmet, I don’t want to spend a fortune on it. My mum showed me some that she likes so I’ll see if they’ve been reviewed by Helmet Hunt and if I like any. I guess if she keeps nagging, I’ll be getting a helmet! Please help me find a red helmet that’s not mortifying. I want to wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet may not be ‘the coolest‘ but neither is being brain dead.

Please leave a comment or link or something if you have any suggestions. Mum wants it to be red too. ?

cartoon motion

Sometimes I wish I was a cartoon. I would run up walls and jump and fly and all kinds of super things. I saw Wolverine movie last night. Hugh JACKman should be called ‘Hugh jacked man’. He’s massive. I really like the Bloor Varsity – VIP section. You can order a bevvy & food to your seat.
Did some serious writing when I got home last night. The book gets closer every day. I paid my friend whose laid off to clean my room. What a surprise to come home to, a floor and closet full of clothes. An old book from the 1940’s lay on my desk from Mum. I picked up the book and as I opened the fragile cover I read “The Face is Familiar: Selected Verse by Ogden Nash“. He died on May 19, 1971 and was one of the worlds best humor poets. He inspires me to write/publish some of my quite funny ones. I like his style very much, I do.

generation why me? urgh, gimme a break.

You may have seen the article in the Toronto Star this weekend on Saturday’s front cover entitled ‘Generation Why Me?’ It was related to recession, broken dreams and delayed ambitions.

So I think 30 IS the new 20 and after reading the article, I refer to what Mum likes to call ‘poor me syndrome’. There are alot of people who are just lazy and unmotivated. This will never change, no matter what happens in the world.
Sure, we’re faced with environmental/ economic/war crisis happening but we also have more access to information, more opportunity to succeed and more ways to gaining expertise for free. Hello Internet? There are things out there you just have to go and get them, the strong will survive. I
‘ve got a B.Comm in International Business & marketing diploma.  I work in the IT dept coordinating projects for an online gaming company. Before this was the fashion industry! I’ve worked in restaurants, done PR blah blah blah…I’ve never had a problem finding a job because I’ve always been determine NOT to fail.
I also agree with @d_hock the most, if someone is going to complain & wah wah about ‘poor me, I’m GenY‘, I say…shut your face. Get up and do something about it! I have many more thoughts the awesomeness that is #GenyTO but I’ll save that for another day.
