Apps: Shopcatch – Location Based Dealios

I know it’s post holiday and Santa probably brought youuuuuu all you wanted BUT if you’re like me and love a deal, this might just be of use. Some friends introduced me to ShopCatch, an app that shows you location based deals. I was at home when I snapped these and it gives me a pile of post holiday deals along Queen Street and what’s happening at the Eaton Centre. I have some GC’s to use from Christmas so if it’s nice out tomorrow I’ll see  what deals have my name on them. I reckon Mum would love this to watch for Winners clearance. Keep an eye out over the next couple weeks cause they (Winner’s) mark EVERYTHING down cheap. Maybe not in the city but surely in the burbs! Have a cool app you’d like me to check out? Send a link to [email protected].

Spin around in a world of fashion, tech & glitter for one day.

First stop today was Sherway Gardens with Barbie. I got a Fousqaure “Mall Rat” badge (shame!) cause I’ve been to five malls. Ok, that’s not really bad. If you get to ten you get another badge. I’m not much of a mall-goer anymore so it’s especially exciting to do a couple laps during the holidays. Love the decorations, the tree and today I even saw Santa. Got a new hard drive to back up my Macbook Air baby, James Dean.  Technology is so stylish. Today I fact checked something about my life from this post. It was about ten days ago but I could not for the life of me remember. New app Diptic lets me do cool things with photos like make them into the four below. This other app I downloaded is 360 Panoramic, check out this I made in the dressing room. Might just be my new fav thing (of the week). I don’t have the option to embed the 360 but here’s a screenshot. If you click either image the real 360 pano will open in a new window and you can have a full spin around. Pretty neat app! It’s $.99 at the corner store. Nerd candy. First outfit is what I wore today, black lace bottom dress from Bicyclette, skully cardigan from somewhere and leopard hat from H&M. At StyleExchange I got this heart sweater, leopard sheer number was too big, loved the sleeveless chiffon button down.   Got this darling holiday sweater at CTS, my fav spot, I’m Mayor on 4sq. They are now on Twitter! Follow @CTS_Queen. Posted a cool artice/vid from BBC about Toronto’s booming & competitive vintage scene. They finish with the Deadly Nightshades all girl bike gang. Pretty awesome & two things I love, bikes & vintage. Barbie was getting all ready for a…

Smart Clothes for Smart People

This weekend I was snuggled up on the couch with my computer enjoying some facetime with my TV. Instead of leaving the house (for anything) decided it was a great idea to browse a few of my fav sites in search of deals. YAY CYBER WEEK! Recently, Mark’s reintroduced online shopping, so, inorder to let you know how easy it is to order, I made a few purchases myself. Last year I got a Denver Hayes super soft cardigan and it’s been all around the world and back. I’ve worn it heaps so I ordered myself this soft drape cardigan in dark olive. To match my eyes of course! The process was super easy and I received an order confirmation by email soon as the order was placed. Shipping is free until the end of the year so get your orders in. They’ve got a bunch of gifts under $30 like really warm socks, slippers, fur hats and yes, a snowball thrower. I picked up a few other little things but can’t say what since my sister and Mum are regular readers 😉   If you make a purchase before the end of November you can be entered to win your entire shopping cart. Visit marks.com for detals & deals. Happy shopping! If you make a purchase before the end of November you’ll be entered to win your entire shopping cart.

Toronto Fashion Week: LABEL S/S 2012

The LABEL spring/summer 2012 showing happened in the studio, and was definitely a breath of fresh air and the perfect collection for spring. The palette was very neutral, with whites, grays, lavenders, pinks, hints of teal, and some black. Every single piece that walked down the small runway I would wear in a heartbeat, and a similar consensus formed with the people around me: any girl could wear these clothes and be effortlessly chic! All the designs and cuts were beautiful, and could be easily dressed up or down with the right accessories. The models showed off cute organic statement necklaces; geometric wooden blocks, wooden cuffs. The whole show was very natural and fresh. Tree branches marked the runway and models stood on rock pedestals after their walk. At some point through the show I was just envisioning myself strolling alongside a river bank, wearing all the pieces! The movement and lightness of the whole collection was just so spot on, kudos to Shawna Robinson and Natalie Sydoruk! My favourites include the V-back LBD (the sheer and fringe were a wonderful surprise), the two-toned bodysuit-lavender maxi ensemble, and the pink drawstring dress with cut-out shoulders. x Carrie

Speaking | SociaLIGHT

Social what? There’s a new buzz word created every :02 seconds but ‘socialight’ is one I wasn’t really familia with. Socialite, yes. I’ve been a social person my whole life and I also like working hard and doing nice things for others. When I was introduced to the SociaLIGHT conference, I smiled knowing there’s gonna be lots of like minded people in a room together. I’m speaking on a panel this weekend at MTCC for the Socialight Conference. It’s a one day event for entrepreneurs & small business people from across Canada. Never heard of it? No problem! This vid will give you the low down in < :60 seconds. Did you know that “Last November, more than 100 countries celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week and now 2011 has been recognized as the Year of the Entrepreneur in Canada.”  Learned that and some other smart facts from the Canadian Guv’s Biz dept. I’ve had an entrepreneurial fire burnin’ for years. In 1996 I won Young Entrepreneur of Cambridge for a publishing company I co-founded. Being on a panel at MTCC is totally checking something of a list for me. I’ve been going there & seeing speakers since I was a kid. Check out the other great speakers here. This past summer I hosted the Bench room during BHD Suites Gifting Lounge on MMVA weekend (here, here & here). The lovely peeps at Bench asked me if I have any upcoming events they could dress me for.  I mentioned the SociaLIGHT conference and today I had a shopping party for one at the Eaton Centre! Say hello to the Bench store babes who assisted me in picking a bunch of gear. Thanks girls! We were looking for two full outfits and I was leaning towards non-sporty or too branded. Thanks Bench Canada for a fun time and new digs. This is what I tried on: I…

How do you scarf? Here’s 25 Ways!

I don’t go without a scarf in the winter. I can’t stand the feeling of being cold. The scarf department at my house is a drawer overflowing with heaps of shapes & colours. It’s tiring to see everyone wearing the ‘euro’ when there are so many ways to wear a scarf well. Check out this awesome video by LA fashion blogger Wendy Nguyen “25 Ways to Wear a Scarf in 4.5 Min“. Her post on behind the scenes & making the video is pretty rad too. Spice up you scarf live and stay warm 🙂

Toronto Fashion Week: Baby Steinberg S/S 2012

Baby Steinberg‘s spring/summer 2012 collection, titled Remnants, was a beautiful and very colourful collection all made from upcycled materials. Her inspiration came from when she taught “handicraft to children in the Brazilian slums known as the Favelas” (from the cute little show packages left on the bleachers– which also included a lollipop and membership info to the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art). I particularly enjoyed the feather details on a lot of the pieces. It added a lovely exotic feeling, and really made it both art and clothing. The red ribbon through the braids were also really cute! The crop top and zipper skirt was one of my favourite combos to go down the runway. The little peek-a-boo snakeskin lining (perhaps reversible skirt?!) was a nice touch. Seriously, the details were impeccable. And it’s always fun to see how designers handle using recycled (or in this case, upcycled) materials because there are just so many ways to go about it (and do it wrong). I think Baby Steinberg did a lovely job, putting on a bright show that really captured the beauty of turning something old into something new. x Carrie

I Want it Wednesday – Stolen Girlfriends Club

My fav NZ designers are jerks and send me a reminder that that sold out items from SS 2012 can now be pre-ordered. URGH YOU GUYS, I want everything!  Damn you, STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB. NZ fashion is ahead all kinds from Canada. I’ve been following NZ style my entire life (Thanks Mum & cousins!) and season after season, the things that hit their runways end up here 1-2 years later. Before the internet it used to be like 3-4 years. In 2004 I came back from Australia in skinny jeans, and a fedora with a mullet. Friends here thought I was crazy then years later, BAM, skinny jeans & fedoras on every hipster in Bellwoods. North America is so behind. No wonder kids at school always thought I had weird fashion sense. Hey kids, “I’m not weird”, you being the same as everyone else is “weird”. SGC just did a collabo with JC for the Stolen Girlfriends ‘Emma’ boot (above) featured in SS 2012. Kinda like the Lita but cowgirl-ishy. I have a new pair of JC’s from Solestruck in the mail for when I get back from my trip. Yay. Ditched all my old crapped out shoes at the end of summer, restocking has begun. Late night online shopping has officially become my guilty pleasure.

Mark’s Reintroduces Online Shopping

Over the past year I’ve become close with the Mark’s brand but I’ve been familiar with it my entire life. I remember going to the store in my home town  with Mum as kid. I’m pretty sure it’s still there. It’s awesome to see how this Canadian retailer has transformed from what I knew as only work clothes to all kinds of things I now mix into my fashioney wardrobe. Mark’s new e-commerce site launched on November 2. I’ve recently joined the online shopping craze and love it. There’s something about getting clothes in the mail that makes me oh so happy. This is exciting for them since their previous transactional e-commerce site was removed in April in order to create a better user experience, particularly in ensuring absolute accuracy in pricing, style numbers, etc. Mark’s has taken its previous site with an updated design and improved checkout experience. They also added a ratings and review section to get feedback. “This site is a testament to the great products we sell and a direct reflection of the quality and innovation that Mark’s has come to represent,” said Kristine Arcand, Online Business Manager for Mark’s. “Customers will find an easy online shopping experience with products that are delivered right to your door, free of delivery and handling charges within 10 business days… how smart is that?”  Tres smart. Last year for holiday I posted a bunch of my favourite things and one of them is the Denver Hayes super soft cardigan. I’ve lived in it for the last year. The Mark’s FW 2011 Lookbook features a few different version of my treasured favourite. Mum, you are probably gonna get one for Christmas, so, act surprised ok. In  celebration of the launch of their new e-commerce site, Mark’s is offering free shipping until the end of the year. How great is that?…
