Weekend Tune: “Cheers (Drink To That)” by Rihanna

Sometimes we all just need a good pop song. Sometimes a pop song just does the trick. And this dear internet amigos, is one of those songs. RiRi just does it up right. She even samples some Avril Lavigne, and I’m going to be honest – I  am not the biggest Avril fan! But in this song? Yeah, I can dig it.

Can I go on tour? This video makes me wanna go on tour. It just looks like the best kind of fun. Guess I’ll send out some roadie resumes.

In the meantime? Let’s soak up those last bits of summer sun and fun. So cheers to the freakin’ weekend! And I’ll drink to that!

always have a dream that is longer than a lifetime

Thought of you when I saw this Mum.

Orange hearts painted outside Roy Thompson Hall.

Orange tie.

Mel.

Everyone was ringing their bike bells for Jack. I Rang mine heaps too.

I love how he inspired positivity in so many people. Has anyone in Canada had an impact like this before?

I loved the old photos and seeing things people made for him. Few cans of orange crush too.

Drum practice at N.P.Square.

Huge clap when his daughter talked about his fashion sense in the early years. The funeral was beautiful. Music, singing, kind words.

You were awesome Jack Layton. Your spirit will live on in me and so many people. Your funeral was touching. (I balled my eyes out to be honest.) Biked all over with Keri looking at the chalk and reading messages people wrote you. Everyone clapped and sang at your funeral. Tears, smiles and lots of love. You made the world a better place. I will do my best too. Thank you

* title is a Jack quote 🙂

we are all young at art

PLayed dressup in my closet last night and cleaned my room nice.

Last night Barbie & Sean went to the Prom (Fake Prom).

Walked a bit in Christie Pitts after I returned the car yesterday. So pretty.

Thanks Tristan for the car, you legend.

Heading to Roy Thompson right now for the Jack Layton memorial funeral.

There’s a little Sheen in all of us…

This is the commercial I did for Comedy Network Roast of Charlie Sheen. The Roast is Monday, September 19th. My line is “I expose people to magic“, when Charlie said it the full line is “I, I expose people to magic, I expose them to something they’re never going to see in their normal, boring lives“. Ha!

I’m ‘officially’ a professional hipster now NBD.

maybe one day they’ll name a hurricane after me?

Patio grass is the best for chilling. Feels cottagey.

All fuzzy photos. Artistic? Sometimes I can’t work this camera.

Working at client office in Mississauga today. Thank you Tristan for letting me hang out with your car today. It’s training for event staff and I wanna be around the action to see & hear people talk about this campaign we’re working on. Lots of writing to do.

Have an awesome day 🙂

if every word i said, could make you laugh, i’d blog forever

I really love my work. It’s true what ‘they’ say if you really work at what you love it doesn’t seem like work. My days are longer and I try harder than ever, but I honestly feel so happy about it all. Yesterday’s video shoot at The Gladstone went great. Followed that up with a stop by 1188 Films for a catch-up and to talk Festival (TIFF starts Sept. 8th).

Stopped by The Drake roof for a bite after hair before visiting my babes at Doll Bar Inc to get FEATHERED! So many colours. When my hair grows I want heaps. Move over Natalie Portman, the BLOG SWAN is coming.

We decided against the bright ones for now and went with a more subtle look.

Love them!

Mega nerd 🙂

Arms are getting ripped from biking though.

Have an awesome day!

P.S. Guess what I got in the mail yesterday… A PRESENT FROM FENDI! Aaah! Thank you LV Brands 🙂

The solution already exists.

Full on day yesterday. I love being busy but sometimes I wonder what it’s like to work 9-5pm and leave your work at home. I used to do that a few years ago but how easy you forget.

Got a one year membership to Bixi from my friends at Telus yesterday. Stephen and I met with branding team about our show that launches in less than a month. We’ve got some neat stuff planned with some pretty cool people. The show is called Ay Caramba Career Show and it will air Thursday night’s at 6pm EST starting September 8th. We’ll be talking about chat about careers in emerging industries & trends. To sign up for all the deets go here and we’ll keep you posted. Stephen is pretty funny and I reckon you will enjoy his rhymes and jokes.

Today I’m filming a video with the Gladstone Hotel for the relaunch of the Melody Bar. Stopping by Doll Bar to see my ladies & get some feathers in my hair. Darren is doing my hair at Darren Kwik studio. Both spots are on Queen Street and will give you 10% off your purchase. Go see them! They’ve been taking wonderful care of me. 🙂

Title of this post is very valuable information I learned for my lawyer last night. I’m doing all kinds of new things & emerging industries so I figure best to run them by an expert. He told me to think about that when there is a problem and the solution is already out there, we just have to find it.

Read a bunch of Jack Layton’s tweets last night. Quite sad over his passing. I really liked him. His funeral is Saturday at Roy Thompson Hall. I’m going. There’s petition to have the CN Tower orange for him. I hope Rob Ford says yes. Sign it here.

Check out this fun experiment from Improve Anywhere (love those guys) called Say Something Nice.

Would you speak up and say something nice?

I would for sure. Have an awesome day.

Remember, you’re younger today than you will be tomorrow, make the most of it!

better act now before life passes you by!

Went for a short cruise this morning. Wanted to feel the cool air on my face, in my hair. I’ve got a full day of creative writing ahead of me. New project with client is very fun. You’ll know about it soon when the site launches. 😉

Watch & overalls are my fav things right now. Watch Hamilton (Swatch), overalls H&M.

Cleaned my room and have about $500 in gift cards for Holts, West 49 (Billabong new stuff is rad) and Gaffas (new glasses!). Stoked to take myself out for some BTS shopping.

Been though a bunch of this exact same Converse model the last few years. Comfy & cute. Got these fresh new ones last week. Will not wear them to a concert or festival. We all know what happened last time at Beerfest.

Remember Exhibit Ikea? I told you to go the other day. They are tearing it down right now. Can’t imagine how much dosh they put into renovating that space for a four day gallery showing. It was beautiful though. I’d like to live there for an art experiment exhibit.

My arthritis arm has been killing the last 24 hours so I popped a bunch of these. No, they are not Viagra. Aleve!

Had a great call w/ Stephen about our show launching September 8th. Meeting out designers tonight for logo chat. I’m going long boarding tonight too. Preeeetttty stoked. I’ve always wanted to give’er a go. Don’t worry Mum, I’ll wear a helmet and wrist guards. I need my arms to type!

grind it.

Last week I went into Grindhouse Burger Bar to test out their burgers. They’re in a city wide burger challenge so my friend/owner Rob invited me in to taste the goodness.

I was starving at the time so it worked out awesome. No Coke or Pepsi products, Cane Cola has been around for over 100 years and uses real cane sugar.

Was impressed to learn that all their menu items are made in-house. This includes ketchup & all the sauces! They have a bunch of fancy burgers but I went for their gourmet big mac style. You know I love my maccas. These onion rings were SO good. 🙂

Grindhouse is one of 4 Toronto Burger joints downtown who are up for to win ‘Best Burger‘ during the Hot & Spicy Food Festival. The winner demos the winning burger recipe with a “Hot & Spicy” side. Event is hosted by Catherine Jheon, writer and content producer for foodnetwork.ca. It all goes down Friday, September 2 at Harbourfront Centre @ 9pm. See ya there!

Vote for Grindhouse here.

Thanks for lunch Rob. Hope you guys win!

Weekend Tune: “When The Night Falls” by Chromeo ft. Solange Knowles

Happy weekend everybody! Hopefully you’re all cutting loose and enjoying these hot summer nights! If not, here’s a tune to help from Montreal electrofunk duo Chromeo featuring Beyonce’s lil’sis Solange Knowles!

Warning: This music video might get you pregnant…

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Chromeo just can’t be controlled. Not familiar with their amazing disco dance tracks? Let me introduce you! “P-Thugg” is the pimp on keyboards, synthesizers, and talk box. “Dave 1” is that dashing fellow singing and playing guitar. He also teaches French classes. Together, they are Chromeo. And Chromeo = Good times. “When The Night Falls” is the fourth single off their third album Business Casual, which is jam packed with jams to party to.

You can follow them on Twitter here, and you can check out their tour dates here. They hit up Toronto in November and I highly recommend you be there.

Enjoy!
xo Kate

Dear Diary, I have so much to tell you. xo

This post is for my girls and boys at Bud Camp.

Last year was SO much fun. I loved ALL the girls. A bunch of them I still see. Met some totally awesome guys too. Had an absolute blast.

Me wearing my outfit today. Have fun this weekend peeps!

For all you people at or not at at Bud Camp.

These are my last year memories. xo CASIE

P.S. Colin if you see this call me.

time capsule creative: november 16, 2006

Once I thought I lost the contents my first external hard drive. It was November 16, 2005. I was heart broken. Like no other love I’ve ever had, it was my everything.

Devastated. Distraught. Thinking about that day now, and you reading this, my heart, it still hurts, feels like like a day old punch.

I went to the bar and I got a martini. What the hell else was I supposed to do, I LOST  goddamn EVERYTHING?! There was a hole in my heart. And it was bleeding. So I wrote…

now i must write.
today i think i lost my work, my life my story.
my external drive showed up empty.

the words i wrote, can not be gone.
i must remember what is lost.

Later that day, I decided to take all the cords apart (there were two to connect it to my PC, it was 2006) and put them back together.

It turned back on. I didn’t  lose anything. The end.

Lessons learned:

1) Make sure you back up. 2) Drama inspires creativity.  3) I might be rtrd. 🙂

exhibitIKEA: realms of bliss realms of light some are born to sweet delight

I cruised by this the night before it opened and snapped a bunch of shots in the dark.

Yesterday I creeped into the beautiful art installation exhibit by IKEA at King & Peter. It’s in collaboration with Canadian fashion designer David Dixon, fashion & design photographer George Whiteside, sculptor Bruno Billio and Thrush Holmes, popular artist, painter & owner of Thrush Holmes Empire.

I love the creativity. I could live here. Maybe one day I will.

These photos were taken the night before it opened and shot from outside.

Swoon over you. Love.

We met at CTV when I worked there. He was nice and his body felt hard to the touch.

I wanna go to the movies.

Baby you could have it all. Download here.

Gladstone Tweetgasm August 2011: Brock + Sockhop

This month’s Tweetgams was Monday night The Gladstone  hosted by the lovely Brock McLaughlin. Doesn’t he look like James Dean. Swoon.

Tweetgasm is fun. I’m going to host one in October. Stay tuned for that.

Boogie down baby. I went for 60’s Twiggy mod.

Auditioned for a ghosty show today with Lauren O’Nizzle. It was fun. I hope they pick us.

There were some nice outfits. I’m going to have a theme for my Tweetgasm too. Idea submissions encouraged.

THE END.

Puma party Anthem & Don’t Party, hearty. ♥

While surfing in South Africa last night I came across We-Are-Awesome & Don’t Party followed by Liver Beats. Total radness, these cool kids got it going down. I like their taste in music, style and this video is great. I really want to go to South Africa.

This one dude in the vid looks SO familiar. From NZ or Australia travels familiar, long time ago. Could be wrong.

The We-Are-Awesome peeps are friends with Puma too. Remember when Puma Social rocked the Burroughs building in March. So fun. I forgot about the giant cop in the Smoke’s Poutine/Puma vid haha. We trained hard that night 😉

Puma Social released a new video:

borderline artistic: shots, lomography

Shot another two rolls for Lomography Mag’s Lomo Amigo project. These are all that turned out. I’ve got another roll done and I hope more turned out. I’m gonna pop by the store and get some tips before I have another go.

Some of these are rad. Especially love the ones from my balcony.

Beerfest.

your life is your movie.

Writing my movie one day at a time.

I loved shooting this commercial yesterday. No telling what it is for but it will be funny and might be up early as next weekend. You will know when it is. This big camera and crew were shooting ME! I love it. More please. Auditioning for a show tonight. Fingaz crossed!

What kinda face is that Miss? My role was “hipster girl” and wardrobe said she liked what I was wearing and I should wear my own clothes. I’ve been method acting for this role for years. Acting is fun. Did my first commercial when I was 16. It was for an electric toothbrush and it aired in the States. Man I would LOVE to find it. I had braces and I made like $500.

Do you know where this is? This street near Danforth & Broadview has so many beautiful houses.

I rode this baby ALL over town yesterday. Front/Spadina to Queen/Logan, back home, then Queen/Spadina to Danforth/Broadview and home again. I went to the Drake after and took a taxi, enough biking for one day. I don’t work out (often) so I really love biking. I’ll workout more in the winter when it’s cold outside. (Doesn’t everyone say that?)

Sheryl this bike has made me enjoy summer so much. Thank you for giving it to me! My new watch is sexy, I love it.

Pretty view of the city from over here. I didn’t hang out in this park much when I lived in the area.

Cool.

Not cool.

Worked with a bunch of nice people yesterday.

eight hours of sleep really energizes you!

I only have a minute but if I don’t blog before I start my day, thoughts on blogging linger like a screen over everything I do. I’m rushing to location to shoot that commercial. My role is ‘hipster girl’, I know, I was made for this.

After that back home writing for fun client/cool project. Tonight there are so many things happening, I have a fall preview of brands I really like so hopefully that means new clothes! BBQ at School and summer hangout at the Drake for SAY Media my advertising company.

Loving the grass on our balcony. If you are interested in getting a quote, as me. Falling in L.O.V.E. with my new Hamilton watch. It’s so pretty. Some specs: has a 34 mm case diameter, stainless steel case and bracelet, sapphire (scratch-resistant) crystal, is water resistant to 50 m (or a pressure of 5 bars); this watch features an ETA 2671-calibre elaborated movement. SHWING! (Feather tattoo, love you too!)

Had a meeting last night at the Globe & Mail w/ Stephen about our new show launching September 8th. It’s online and gonna be great. For now I only tell you a wee bit.

Ok. Must. Stop. Blogging. Have an awesome day! Byeeeeeeee.

you missed this yesterday

where no grass has gone before

Synthetic grass from Synlawn. It’s pretty. Thanks JOE!
