art & music: the sounds of friendship

Today it is damn ass cold again. I’m wearing the warmest unit on my head, found it in Mum’s basement. It’s a Turtle Fur headband from the 80’s! Love it. I used to wear it skiing when I was a kid. This evening I will be attending two events that are artistic and appealing. Planning on going with my sister and probably going to make a dance moves vid also. If you’d like to join us, message me on Twitter (@casiestewart). Stop #1 My friend K.Hinto, a fabulous Toronto artist has a show opening. what is your blog about anyways?

People always ask me “what’s your blog about?” or”well, whats your topic?“. As this happens I say to myself in my own little head “I dunno, whatever I feel like, whatever I like, whatever is me-ist“. I learned something cool from Chrissy at a company called Espresso. It is called Wordle. I made this Wordle of my blog’s first page to get an idea of what my blog might be really about. This is the realest and truest thing. This shows you what matters most to me. I started writing my blog because I love writing, I love life and I love to remember the things I do that keep me being awesome. This is what my blog is about.

sketch pad

I got a new sketch pad about a week before holiday’s started and just about filled the whole thing. I’ve been drawing & painting with mixed materials: acrylic & water colour paint, pastel, charcoal, lead, pencil crayon, & wax crayon. It’s pretty exciting. I’ve always been an artsy one but NOW, the time has come. I’m going all borderline artistic and looking forward to some exciting stuff in 2009. My professional gallery, Borderline Contemporary will be opening in Spring 2009. I’ve got several artists lined up. I’m super excited. I’ve always wanted to have my own gallery and this year, my dreams shall come true!!

Always wanted to join the symphony? Now you can.

You can play your part in music history and join the YouTube Symphony Orchestra. It is quite a magical thing. All these talented musicians uniting to play music that is heard around the world, from around the world. You download the sheet music, practice, practice, practivce and upload two samples. Makes me kinda wish I played some type of instrument. I know have a friend that right now is laughing while reading this going “how about you play the skin flute?’”. I used to play flute in grade 7 & 8, so there. I’d like to try my hand at the jazz Flute, like Ron Burgundy.

beautiful losers – make something from nothing

As kids you write, create, draw, you make things. I was constantly making things with Mum and my sister at the kitchen table or in the garage with Dad. I painted, sculpted, drew, cut, copy, paste, glue, paper mache, you name it, I was doing it. This film is a collection of stories from artists who all felt at times that they didn’t fit in and now have shifted their ideology from being nerds, or weirdo’s to cool nerds and creative people. I’m waiting on response to see about showings in Canada. This movie ‘celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation.‘ Beautiful Losers film trailer from beautifullosersfilm on Vimeo. “In the early 1990’s a loose-knit group of like minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the “establishment” art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.” “Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories. It speaks to themes of what happens when the outside becomes “in” as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today’s youth.”

City Girl Defines Her Style: Jennifer Herd

Jennifer Herd, a talented artist I know has created this awesome pic ‘City girl”. Her artwork has been entered in the Sony VAIO Contest to be one of the new laptop skins to be manufactured & sold across Canada. I am asking for your help to get her design into the Top 10. It is very simple! Click the photo to follow the link & hit ‘vote for this design’. You can vote every 24 hours. It would be a dream come true for the artist to have her design manufactured by Sony. I’m excited to help make her wish a reality! To check out more of Jennifer’s artwork visit her blog. A little bit about Jennifer: 1. Whats your dream job? – Illustrator for a trendy Toronto animation company 2. What’s your favourite type of music? – Gotta have my blues rock! Oh yeah! 3. What clothing brands best defines your personal style? – I don’t buy particular brands – I love indie and vintage!!
