We saw Scott Helman, Nav Bhatia (aka The Raptors Superfan) and heard messages from Bianca Andreescu, Rupi Kaur and so many others. On our backstage tour, we walked past the Raptors winning trophy! I think it’s really important for kids to see other young people who are making a difference in the world. As a kid I was very involved in my community volunteering, governing youth issues alongside city council, and being a leader as Miss Teen Cambridge. I wanted to take Emily to be inspired by young leaders making a difference in their schools, communities, and the world. She’s almost 12 and I see her making new friends, being online, texting, growing up. I want her to feel empowered to make positive change, to stand up for herself and others. Visiting the Google Shop within a Shop + $250 Best Buy Giveaway

About a week ago I was out the door bright and early one morning for the media preview grand opening of the first Google shop in North America at Best Buy in Mississauga. I love going to this type of event! Ever since I was a little kid, my dad used to take us to stroll around Future Shop, look at all the gadgets, test stereos and TVs. I think I have him to thank for my lifelong love of tech. Google Shop is a ‘shop within a shop’ that’s got all kinds of Google goodies and product demos. I visited one of my favourite beaches in new Zealand via the Portal, tried Fantastic Beasts in w/ Google Daydream VR, and was sent home with Google Chrome. ?? I thought this was a neat thing to do over the holidays! Hangout with Santa in the Google shop. Select your city at g.co/instore to find your closest location. Before touring the store I chatted Best Buy’s Angela Scardillo, VP Marketing & Communications. The main thing I learned from her was how they’re really trying to make tech approachable. Their new round of ‘experience stores’ have a more immersive experience where you can touch, feel, test things. The new store design has raised access flooring that expands and contracts expand so they can actually move the store around and change the shopping experience. The new flagship Google shops are now open at Best Buy locations in Mississauga, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Angela also showed off her Google Pixel phone and I really want to try one. It takes great photos and organizes them in your phone like Google Images. Tech | Muse Headband + Google Cardboard

Last week I got to try out Google Cardboard. It’s a small Oculus-like box that attaches to your Android phone where you can experience virtual reality games etc. I went on a roller coaster ride and it was pretty trippy. You hold up the box to your eyes then move as if you are on a coaster, I nearly fell over! 1188 Films (Sean’s company) has been working on some pretty rad VR stuff for Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard. I ca’t wait to see what they come up with next. My love for technology knows no bounds. I volunteer to test out everything! I was trying out the Body Mind Change + David Cronenberg Oculus Rift experience and did not know what was going to happen… then, a monster popped out and I totally jumped and screamed. The office at 1188 roared with laugher at me. HAHA GUYS VERY FUNNY. My other latest technology toy is the Muse brain Sensing Headband. It’s been a neat journey so far trying to make myself relax. I may seem like a care-free, fun loving person, but TBH I can be really uptight sometimes! This is a snapshot of my (lack of) calmness last week on Monday right in the middle of TIFF. The second photo is Friday afternoon, post TIFF. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I’m going to test out my cottage calmness this weekend. You unlock different milestones the more calm you are. I’m going for a SERENITY NOW mentality. After I did a session on Friday last week I took the streetcar. A man across the car was playing his music loud, like NO HEADPHONES loud. The driver even yelled for the person playing the music to turn it down. It took every ounce of my patience to hold it together, it is so frustrating…

The Future of Technology | Google+ The HuffPost Live Story

Something interesting happened yesterday and it turned out to be something pretty awesome! It all involves The Internet, social networks, content, blogging, and a little bit of luck I reckon. It starts with this photo… Remember my post about the ‘Other’ folder in Facebook? Well one of the 99+ messages in there was from a video agency in Venice Beach, California (one of my fav places in the WORLD!) and they messaged me a few months ago to use one of my photos in a video. I did not see the message because it was in the ‘Other’ folder, basically the spam department of Facebook. In the message, they offered to pay me for the use of my photo. I took a chance an emailed her back to see if 1) they used my photo and 2) if the offer still stands. Turns out it did! Little did I know, the video was for HuffPost Live about the way the web has changed journalism and HuffPost’s use of Google+. Well la di da! I chatted with Tim McDonald from HuffPost Live a few months before I got the email about this video and I don’t think either one is connected. Crazay! The photo used in the vid was a selfie I took at SXSW 2012 in Austin, Texas inside the WordPress booth at the convention centre. If you look closely, you’ll see WordPress in the background, the video doesn’t show the logo for obvious reasons. Oh man I miss that acid wash denim jacket, it’s long gone now. I wish I could share posts to other sites like Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, Pinterest. Remember when it first came out? It has changed heaps. I think there’s potential. I use so many other Google products and have thousands of photos from Picasa web albums that are now Google+ photos. Space, Google, Something Strange in the Neighbs

Tonight O’Nizzle and I are hosting a show with some astronomers for SPACE. Pretty stoked. Not too sure what we’re gonna be doing but I’m into it. Plus, we have to go to Hamilton! Mega adventure! Last night I went to a party hosted by GOOGLE and The Rapture played. It was pretty rad. Lots of nerdy babes. Heaps of business people. Was totally surprised none of the ‘social media’ peeps were there. Met some rad peeps. Tomorrow is TEDxToronto and I’m attending in person as a delegate. Really looking forward to being inspired and seeing/meeting other delegates. Check out this speaker vid by The Biz Media featuring someone you’ve seen here before, Mr. David Miller: Saw this on a walk yesterday… the balance of marriage? What are we saying here, wife, kids, party girl taking you out on the town? Hmmm. Watching the Facebook F8 Keynote right now. Are you watching it? It’s kinda crazy how Facebook wants us to feellike it is our ‘home’ for all our online stuff. I’m all for sharing but it kinda freaks me out. They’re releasing ‘Timeline’ so we can create & cultivate the stories of our lives. Watch it here if you’re into it. Zuckerberg is a strange guy I bet. The new FB allows you to add a big photo at the top of your page kinda like a blog. Very blog like actually. Get ready for backlash!!

OH MY GOOGLE!

Biggest news of the day so far, Google buys Motorola for 12.5 billion! OMG. This is exciting for Android users and especially me cause I’m friends with Motorola and been using their devices for almost two years. It’s a match made in heaven I reckon. Google CEO Larry Page wrote about the acquisition on the Google blog here. “Motorola’s total commitment to Android in mobile devices is one of many reasons that there is a natural fit between our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers everywhere.” Google, Android & Motorola are three of my most loved brands. Once I blogged about Google being my boyfriend, you know how I have affairs with technology. Remember this special guy too? In a statement, Google said ” “will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem.” Hella yeah super charge. I wonder what devices & stuff they’ll have now? Hmm. This is my most recent device, Moto Android, the DEFY. It’s super sturdy and “life proof”, scratch resistant, water resistant and has a swipe keyboard which I’ve really grown to love. I blogged about it here. I used my HTC the other day and typing one letter at a time w/ no swipe was like using a typewriter. Before DEFY I had Milestone which was also my fav. That phone is bigger and has a real keyboard. Expecting a new version of that to be out any minute now. BTW did you know I am left handed? It’s clean & easy to navigate. Talking about this makes me want to draw wireframes. I’ve not had many conversation or a ‘hangout’ on video yet but I will soon. I can hardly believe this is my life… Last night at the Notable TV Schmooze I got a new phone, again. Boooyah! This is my THIRD phone this year – Koodo, Rogers, Bell. Thankyouverymuch. Is that Telus calling? Cause I still wanna try an iphone y’know. Lessons learned: 1) You don’t ask you don’t get. 2) If you ever have any doubt that you can achieve if you believe, don’t ! 3) Think positive, live positive & positive things will happen to you. I won a Samsung I7500, with the Google Android OS. what have you secretly searched? #google

I’m watching Inside the Mind of Google on CNBC. Did you know there’s 2 billion Google searches done daily? That’s mad hits. I found it super interesting thinking about what people put in that little search box. Admit it, you’ve typed things in Google search would wouldn’t tell ANYONE; dirty secrets, naughty desires, sickness, infection. Everything. Google’s got all those queries stored in their database. Imagine someone reading your Google list? I learned Google’s been subpoenaed in heaps of court cases to get peoples Google search lists. Basically, the lesson learned is if you don’t want someone to know, don’t Google it. The US Patriot act states that law enforcement agencies can get Google’s access to your search terms. However, they’re made anonymous after 18 months but that doesn’t mean they can’t link your searches back to you. Dogfooding is what they call testing Google products on all their 20,000 genius employees; using their own products in house. The hour finished off talking about Adwords & I could have watched it all night. I PVR’d it so I can watch it again. I love Google, you know I do.

Life is extraordinary in the moments when you are laughing so hard you can barely breathe. These moments of deep laughter are divine in the sense that they cleanse your mood and set your mind on a positive track. Making the Yellow Light – It’s one of the most common simple pleasures, the act of beating the pack. As you blaze through the yellow light you glance in your rearview to see all the cars behind you stopping at the red light. Yes! You made it! 3. This laughing girl…love laughing and photos of girls laughing always put a smile on my face. I like to Tweet them via Tumblr when I see a real beaut. That’s it for the Friday wrap up. I’m back to the Impact Conference & stoked to be at the HEAD TABLE with Jeff and Justin Trudeau. I’m out of town all weekend and back at the office Tuesday! BON WEEKEND!
