Mailbag! Monday, April 2, 2012

Got some pretty rad stuff in the mail recently. Leggo! Nail Polish Canada invited me to try out Magnetix China Glaze. It’s a nail polish with magnetic properties that does these funky designs when you hold a stylized magnet once you put on the polish. It’s not hard to do and looks quite fancy. The package says to hold the magnet there for 5-10 seconds but I suggest holding the magnet there for at least 20 seconds really helps. Colours here are ‘You Move Me’ and ‘Instant Chemistry’. That’s what’s up. #magnetix magnetic nailpolish #smallwins yfrog.com/obyyszkj — Brown Barbie (@itsbrownbarbie) February 20, 2012 The peeps at Hanes sent a pile of hosiery and filled me in about  a contest on their Facebook page.  If you enter, you’re eligible to get Hanes Hosiery and a $50 VISA gift card. That pair in the middle are like fishnets but little squares (cue Weeds theme song ‘Little Boxes) and I love ’em. Really clear blue skies in Toronto today. The air is a bit chilly but I’ve had the patio door open all day. So good. And…for the final mail item of the day… I’ve wanted one of these F-O-R-E-V-E-R… Gun Metal studded iPhone case! It just came today from my friend Andrew. There’s a whole bunch of different cases available at Felony Case and if you order one use CASIESTEWART discount for $10 off. If anyone tries to every steal my iPhone, I’ll be able to defend myself. This thing is sturdy! My friend Jen from She Does the City recently was punched in the face and had her iPhone stolen. No joke. Scary! Read it here. This weekend I hung out with O’Nizzle, who played a good April Fools joke, Raymi for her 29th birthday and Saroox came along too. Each girls name links to their blog…

MONDAY MARCH MADNESS

Good  morning, good morning, and how are you today? I’m feeling a wee bit frazzled since we leave for SXSW Wednesday. I woke up early, cleaned my room, did the dishes and started packing. I’m about to get dressed and head to MTCC for The Art of Marketing, Randi Zuckerberg from Facebook is speaking today. Been offered a pretty sweet new in fashion so I need to make one stop around Dundas Square today.  I can’t wait to tell you about it, it’s cool.  Meeting Lauren at Yorkdale mid day for a SHOPPING SPREE at West 49 & Billabong cause they’re sponsoring us for SXSW. How freaking cool eh? Ahhhhh. On my way back downtown I’ve got a fitting at Peach Berserk cause guess what? I’m walking in the (huge) closing show, Dare to Wear Love for Mastercard International Fashion Week on March 17th. Ahhhhhh again! Tonight my SXSW team has a meeting to plan out the final details and out route from Toronto to Texas.  It’s been years since I went on a big road trip and this is by far the biggest one ever. I can’t wait to get there. If you’re gonna be there LMK & make sure you add my panel to your schedule. It’s Sunday at 12:30! Have an awesome day! P.S. MUM, I miss you. Call me xo

monday mashup

It’s gettin’ chilly and I don’t mind. I really hate being cold but I also love wool sweaters and staying inside. I got a new bed this weekend and it’s as my hips so you have to jump up. I feel like a Princess, I’ve never loved my own room so much. I’ll be spending most the winter there now. Room transformation is coming along good too. I have thrown out more crap in the last three days than ever in my life. Determined to shed things I do not need so I only have the things I want. Next stop is the closet, then Goodwill. It feels great to get rid of stuff, new addiction coming, I can feel it. I will NOT be a hoarder. Measuring Tape Girl screening went well yesterday. I quite enjoy short films, so much packed into a small time frame. Lots of creativity. I’ve got one that needs some attention. Hope to have done before 2012. Here’s myself w/ Chrissy from Vocab Communications, Marco, director and Jessica the lead. I want to be in a movie. It’s about time I had a meeting with my agent and sussed out how we can make that happen. Big American Apparel warehouse sale coming up. Remmeber the last AA Rummage Sale? It was MEGA. Luckily we got line bypass (Thanks Joey!). The deals were really, really good. Hipster heaven. Go early, bring cash. In other news, saw this on TheGrid, Nuit Blanche Animated. I love animated, you know this. I’ve made a commitment to drink the juices today and do the cleanse. I am determined to do it. I am strong.  Yesterday I wasn’t but today I am. Amazing how you change one day to the next. I think Monday has a lot to do with it. I miss not having a bike. I have a new…

music for your monday: “baby’s arms” by kurt vile

Wake-y wake-y eggs and bacon-y! Sleepy? Tired? Hurting? If you’re need of a music video to ease you into the day. Here’s some “Baby’s Arms” by Kurt Vile for you to listen to as your coffee brews. Kurt Vile is a Philadelphia boy who’s latest album Smoke Ring For My Halo is stirring up buzz. He plays Toronto at Lee’s Palace this Wednesday. He’ll also be playing Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend! And guess who’s going?! Me! I’m quite excited. In other news, I’m now taking applications for adorable skater dude boyfriends. Enjoy the tune and have a good week! xo Kate

there’s no blue monday in this department sir

the only blue is the sky above cause we’re covered in sunshine here and here Who leaves those big footprints? I wish I could walk on water. I should go to the island soon. I was thinking I missed the beach and the sunshine so I went to the urban beach, sat in a muskoka chair and felt the sun on my face. I kicked around some snow, found the sand below and even only if for a minute, I was reminded of summer. Did you know there’s actually a formula for ‘why’ today is the ‘ most depressing day of the year‘. Crazy talk. I always thought it was some time in February but maybe that’s high suicide day or something. According to a press release by a mental health charity, the formula is: where weather=W, debt=d, time since Christmas=T, time since failing our new year’s resolutions=Q, low motivational levels=M and the feeling of a need to take action=Na. ‘D’ is not defined in the release, nor are units. DON’T LET THE WINTER GET YOU DOWN EH! Have fun with it. Go exploring But dress warm. Nobody likes a whiner. You never know what you might find.  Hopefully it’s beauty in something 🙂 Hey, Red row boat your cuzzy Red Canoe is my neighbour. You look chilly sitting there. Read this nice article in the Toronto Star that is part of an essay called Lessons Travel Has Taught Me by Arthur Frommer. Thought it was worth sharing with you. It was a nice read, these are the main things travel has taught him: We are all alike. We are responsible for one another. There is no single solution for human problems. All people should be “minorities”. Travel keeps us young. Travel teaches us humility, the best human trait. In…

TTC Tales: monday july 26, 2010 #TTCT

Taking the train from uptown again. I know, crazy.  I don’t mind the subway though, there’s always a story. A couple years ago I used to write daily posts on the way in. I really enjoyed that. Get some creative juice out first thing. Browsed the Metro, nothing really to see today. The ride today is pretty quiet, no loud talkers in sight. I could feel the hunger eating me from the inside today so I grabbed a croissant and coffee at Tims. He ironed my dress this morning and dropped me at the station. He’s quite charming this one, I like. There’s construction at Davisville station, something about the wall systems and the yard side that will last three months. As long as it doesn’t slow the train, I don’t really mind. Arriving at the office later that I planned for today. Luckily I’m not in a Nazi office like a couple past jobs where you get scolded for not being at your comp at [insert ridic early time here].  Once I arrived at 8:05 to my job in the financial district (the one I had to wear a suit to everyday and be there at 8AM, urgh!) and I got sent home for the day like a bad girl. The boss thought I had been out with the boys, who were also late and decided to punish us. Brutal. I had to help my sister with an emerg but he didn’t care to know. What a jerk he was sometimes! I hear an accent, South African I reckon. I look kinda tired today despite getting a really good sleep. Hate that. Guess I need another good one tonight. Finally almost at the office. Took long today, I feel like I’ve traveled so far. Coffee done. Arrived and ready…

avoiding a case of the mondays

Set a goal this week to take more photos.  Found my camera charger and now I’ve got two batteries and no excuses not to use it. Lets play show & tell… This old Mason jar contains vintage buttons. Mum had them in the basement and it smells vintage when you open it.  (you said I could take it Mum) This part of the book shelf has sex related books that never get looked at. Also in Mum’s basement are about 10,000 McDonalds Happy Meal toys. We obsessively collected them when I was growing up and heaps of them are still in their packages. We would go to Mc Donalds just to get the toys if they were barbie, beanie babies or something cool.  I still do it.  Last year they had Hello Kitty and Barbie and I tried to get them all. I’m putting this here as a reminder to myself (and you) to not stress this week. I hate stressing. It pisses me off. I prefer to be relaxed and happy. Don’t you?

love on sale from now till monday

I used to live live in a psychic city, I never knew what would happen in a day. I might be looking out the window and a friend might say, “Come on over over, come on over over, come on over we’re having a party for you. I used to live in a voodoo city, where every little thing had its own secret life. I might be washing up the dishes and the kitchen might say, “Hang around baby baby, hang around baby baby, hang around baby we’ll be baking a cake for you. I used to live in a heartbeat city, I swear I’d fall in love every minute on the street. You might be walking around the corner and our eyes might meet. Where you been darling darling? Where you been darling darling? Where you been darling darling we’ve been holding this moment for you. I told you your dreams would come true I told you your dreams would come true I told you your dreams would come true I told you your dreams would come true This song is by YACHT and it’s called Psychic City. I love the whole album. I listen to it on repeat and I though I should probably share it with you instead of keeping all the joy for myself. Join Team Yacht or follow @teamyacht and feel happy.

Who Said Monday’s are bad? Ketel One Tasting!

In just a mere short eight hours I will be experiencing something great…tasting and be trying Ketel One vodka!! Yahoooooooooo! I’ve been invited by Matchstick to attend a vodka sampling event this evening. Don’t know the Ketel? Ketel One Vodka is distilled from 100% wheat and made at the Nolet Distillery in Schiedam, Holland. It is distilled in alembic copper pot stills, filtered through loose charcoal, and rests in tile lined tanks until ready. Ketel One Vodka is named after the original, copper pot still, “Distilleerketel #1,” and is handcrafted in small batches. The alcohol content of this spirit is 40% (80 proof). The Nolet Distillery also makes Ketel One Citroen and Ketel 1 Jenever Gin. [Wikipedia]

Collision Conf 2023 – See You There?

Next week, Toronto’s biggest tech conference is back! Collision Conf is like the ‘Olympics of Tech’ and brings together people and companies redefining the tech industry. Nelson and I were there each day last year and it was so much fun (see blog post here!). We even filmed a couple of Cast of Creators episodes in the glass podcast booth. Including one with Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace! Trending Topics to Watch I chatted with the Collision Conf team this week to see what sessions and topics are trending: There are some big-name speakers (see here) and I’m looking forward to hearing from Geoffery Hinton, the founder of artificial intelligence. Early registration is open this weekend at the Union Station UP Express platform and then onsite at Beanfiend Centre from Monday to Thursday. I’m planning to get my badge this weekend to avoid the chaos. I’ll be at the opening party on Monday night and then at the conference each day. I look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new people. My experience last year was so great I left feeling excited, inspired, and with a few new friends! If you’ll be there LMK, download Hvr to leave a comment on my blog!
